Glad to stumble on to these videos. My 2005 CR250R has been sitting in my parents garage for years unridden. I am now in a spot where I can move it to my own garage and afford to rebuild everything on it.

@@Dirtbikerepair I'll take you up on a question. How would I know if I need to do any bottom end replacement? At this bikes age, does it make sense to do a new bottom end if I put a new top end in it? I am comfortable doing the top end but not so much the bottom end right now.

well funny, Im actually rebuilding the Top End of a CR125 right now and am getting footage of what to look for in the bottem end when you have your top end off, but most likely if you are just changing a piston on a running bike, my answer is going to be NO. the bottem is probably fine, if it passes the checks, and you didnt grenade a piston or the cylinder and you dont need to take apart the cases to get little parts out...
if you have to take apart the cases, for the extra cost I would personally replace the bearings.. the big picture is if you are going that far as to take the cases apart why not replace all the bearings and the piston, etc.. i think you can get kits for under $500 USD and do it all... thats a pretty cheap motor really. in Canada its around $800.
I hope that helps and as soon as my parts show up i will be finishing my rebuild and have the new video out

My experience with the bowl screws on these types of carburettor's, is that most people think they are Philips head, but in actual fact they are ( JIS ) Japanese Industry Standard screws. So if you use a Phillips head screwdriver it doesn't fit correctly & will just chew them out over time. My carb bowl screws where the same so I replaced them with stainless hex head, makes maintenance easier.😁 Awesome job I enjoyed the video.

the Hex Head replacements i have seen a few time's, probably a good way to go. Maybe i will do a tool video, like a "my fav tools" or somethings like that and include the JIS drivers. thanks a lot for the comment, really glad you are liking the Video's

Me personally I would have swapped to an air striker carb or billitron. Even still if it’s tuned right it’ll run good. Awesome job!

I actually love the air strikers my self, I have one on my cr500af and on my 2001 CR250. I honestly have never used a billitron. I have a video series going to start with a 2001 cr125 that is running a lectron. So I will do a video on how they work as well.

My slide was broke the same on both sides. Dude I bought it from said carb was rebuilt too 🤦‍♂️. Wonder if it’s a common problem. Motosport and Rocky Mountain still has them in stock which was nice. I also bought a new idle screw which wouldn’t fit. It went in so far and stopped, the smooth part looked bigger than the one that was in there which sucks.

It might be a problem with that series of carb.. I actually just finished a different 2004 just before I started trying to film for TH-cam, it’s slide was actually really good…. Now it might have not been the original tho.. I will have to look into this. Good to know tho.. worst case I was going to change it to an air striker..
Thanks a lot for the comment and for watching.

My slide was cracked similar on my 04 tmx04 Mikuni, having trouble getting the float height set now and possibly slow jet showed 32.5 on Rocky mtn but your manual is showing 40 I had a 40 in it when I got it but put the 32.5 in. Bike will crank and idle fine but when in gear and over 1/2 throttle bike will start to bog and foul out. Going to try to adjust my float and drop needle clip down to 2nd position today to see if that helps? Any ideas?
Also any advice setting the fuel adjustment screw I didn’t catch it in the video?
    Thanks and awesome videos!

Are you leaking out of your overflow when the float is not set? I think you are probably running out of fuel with a 32.5, obviously I am being a text mechanic here. I haven’t seen the bike run so it’s hard to fully understand. I would set the bike back up to stock setting, you need that float set properly then you can deal with jetting and clip positions. Check the air screw make sure it’s set back to stock. I can’t remember if it’s 2 turns or what it would be. Your float is probably the biggest problem tho
