This is a 38mm Lectron carb.
    www.lectronfuelsystems.com
Here is another video on the 2003 Honda CR250R project bike. It’s not that the stock Mikuni TMX carburetor was terrible, because it wasn’t. Scott did a fine job rebuilding it and the jetting wasn’t bad. Of course we could have spent some more time dialing it in, but many said it was not worth the time and that the stock carb was garbage. Since I didn’t want to spend valuable time jetting this bike more perfectly, asked Lectron if they wanted a piece of the action.
In full disclosure, this amazing Lectron Carb was donated to the project. I’m not hiding behind that. In order to do this to your Honda Project bike, it’s going to set you back $450 - $500 by the time you have it shipped to you. What you will end up with though is a bike that runs BANG ON, at any altitude. If that is important to you, then the 500 bucks you spend will be worth it. There are certainly other ways to get any bike to run cleanly, and some of then are cheaper. I haven’t seen a bike run any better than when they have a Lectron installed.
This one is no different. It screams with this 38 mm Lectron on here. Call up the guys at Lectron and the will hook you up with what you need.
Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

My cousin had a 2001 CR250 with that TMX carb and he switched out the center section to a leaner (I think #5) - and went with Pro Circuit jetting specs. The alitiude here in Central Ohio is around 800ft above sea level. This fixed everything with the Mikuni carb, it ran perfect after this!

You sold me on the Lectron. I struggled for a year trying to work out my jetting on my 16 Beta 300RR Race edition. Is get it good then go for a ride 4000-6000 feet higher and it was crap. Tried to jet in between and it wasn't great. Put the Lectron on, made one small metering rod adjustment and haven't touched it since. Ridden for a full year from St.george (3000 ft) to the top of skyline drive (10897 ft) 40-90+ degrees. Runs awesome. This carb and my Tubliss set up are by far the best mods I've tried.
    Thanks Kyle

Quick tip for taking out/ intalling the carb on 02-07 model is just take off the whole subframe assembly it come off as one piece with the silencer still attached. Then just take out the bolt for the rear shock pull shock back and boom remove or install the carb what ever the case may be.
After words reattach the shock and when putting the subframe back on make sure the silencer slips on first then line up the airbox boot to the carb slip it on put the subframe bolts back in and your done. Should take no longer than 20 mins.

I run a Steahly 12oz on my 01 and am a rever from my MX 125 days but weight is nice when need to use the lower or mid RPM or just slow the spin up a hair into the power band to get more controllable traction since these don't have a adjustable power valve. I also use a milled cover but think would fit even the 14oz if have the leaky plastic cover you have to clean out every ride depending on the year of yours though or should come with a spacer gasket like a Rekluse does. Race Harescrambles and Enduro in Vet A and had on for many of years, I check torque once in a while but it stays put. Not a vast difference but noticeable and not really that spendy and be fine if just trail riding too, probably better if just trailing cause if you got it wound up all the time don't really notice.

I had a 12oz on a 03 KX250 and didn't like it. The engine doesn't have good low end power and all the fww did was keep the engine from revving into it's usable power range in a timely fashion. Tended to take longer to return to idle as well. Had a 15oz on my CR500. It seemed to help a little down low where the ignition system is suspect.

Lectron is great. But the issue with that mikuni is the needle jet. Not the needle, the needle get. It had an s9 in it which just made it way too fat from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. Go to an s8 or s7 depending on the atmosphere in which you ride and it cleans right up.

The carburetor is not junk. Honda put a number 9 dump tube in there Yamaha put a number 7 dumb tube in there which is smaller. That fixes the problem. To make the snappiness even better I put a 2007 Mikuni needle in my TMX carb which is a tapered needle. So about say 30 bucks fixes the whole problem. The 2004 to 2007 Mikuni carburetor is a 40 mm. That's the carburetor that I recommend to put on the bikes.
My 2001 cr had the tmx carb on it. That did the low end fix. Clip-on needle second top 390 Main Jet 45 pilot I'm at 500 ft.
    I put the 2007 Mikuni 40 mm.
On my bike and wow it made it pull for bottom all the way to top end.
With no flat spots at all.
    Hope this help someone
    Your bike is
    Very clean.

Have ran lectrons on a lot if bikes, for back in the 90’s ran a 40mm on a cr500, bike was a legend. And that was with the ancient needle set screw. The newer 1/4 turn metering rad is so nice. Am running 46mm lectrons on a banshee drag bike on methonal. All that being said the tmx is a good carb, I prefer the later tmx, short body with the tps, i still run that carb on on my trx363 with an 04 ignition, killer bike

So would you recommend a lectron carb for a cr250? I’m having trouble with my bike. Twice I’ve been riding it and it just sticks wide open sending me off the back and the bike to who knows where, one of the times in a downed tree lol. Got a new throttle cable and happened again in the next ride 5 minutes in. When I give the bike throttle with it turned off, I can hear the spring in the slide catching but there is no visible problem on the slide or spring. Thinking about getting a lectron and a new throttle housing assuming that will wipe out all possibilities of it happening.

I would love to run a Lectron. Probably in a couple years. I ride from 3k all the way up to 8k feet in elevation depending on the season so i see a lot of fluctuation. In my videos you can tell when I am really high in elevation because i run a bit rich. I never change my jetting, either.
I really don't think the gearing on that bike you are building will need to be changed. If you go any lower you will have a top speed of 40mph which would suck. It's got plenty of power down low even with stock gearing. It definitely needs a kick stand and hand guards though.

My 2001 always ran fantastic at all elevations (sea level -8,000ft) with stock carb. I never touched the jets, just moved the clip on the slide when riding real high elevations. Always started first kick too even after sitting with old gas for almost a year sometimes. I believe 2001 had a Kehien though. Other older Honda’s as well never had any issues with carb. I think it might have less to do with the carb itself and more to do with the fact they changed to case induction making the engine more particular. JMHO

Lectron - been considering one of these for my ground up rebuild on my 01' yz250. Called and left 3 voice mails over 2 week period with Lectron and they have not responded. Not sure how busy they are but they need to step up with customer support. Still considering one

Bill, sorry to hear this. We stay late to return voicemails same day, so I'm not sure how yours has gotten missed. Make sure you have the right number (830) 331-2235 and your voicemail is setup and not full in case you don't pickup when we return the call (this happens often).

I'm looking to buy a 2 stroke but my only concern is how loud it will be? How loud is a 2 stroke, any comparisons?

darren corbit decibel-wise it’s Probly not much different from a four stroke but the pitch is double. It really comes down to your preference.. do you want your bike to sound like an angry bee or a never- ending fart?

@Keith Petersonlol, every bike is different and elevation plays big key. I personally run 50: 1 for Texas, different when I was in Colorado and Arizona.

Japanese bike, strip the bike down to the frame before installing the carburettor 😂 disclaimer I'm only teasing but I have found that the KTMs I've had in the pass are very easy to access key areas of the bike without taking alot off of course that isn't always true with everything.

TMX carbs are complete garbage, even Mikuni's old round slides are built better.
Way to many plastic parts in the TMX I'm surprised that Honda would even consider
using one, they must have got a good deal from Mukuni.
