  • Lets explore the Space Jockey Alien "Giants" of Dark Horse Comics Aliens Apocalypse The Destroying Angels! They are not the engineers of the Alien prequel films, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant, these are the ancient Giants many of us wanted. Also called the Mala'kak in other stories, the Giants here are an amazing race!

I liked the interpretation in the books, where the jockeys showed up on the xeno homeworld and saved the last few marines by killing the attacking xenos with a gravity weapon. The crew escaped.
Then they let the crew know they had followed them home to an infected Earth and would be killing whoever won the Alien Earth war. Because to them humans and xenos are just nasty bugs in need of squishing.

I remember visiting an RPG website that had really cool lore for the Jockeys, everything was biomechanical so they could fuse with their tech, they grew everything in an automated way, a bio-metal organ breaking down surrounding materials in the environment and allocate them accordingly to fit the desired purpose.
I still believe this was the original idea behind the Alien, but it broke free of the Jockeys control and gave itself purpose, kind of like a Biomechanical AI. If you watch the deleted scene with Dallas and Bret being Egg-morphed, the surrounding machinery of the Nostromo looks more like it is being consumed or repurposed.
I also have a theory that the Alien was consuming the Ore being transported, we are not told what ore is being transported, but what Ash said about its metabolism being extremely high would make sense if 'what' they were carrying was rich in minerals.

I think the comic books had some much better ideas. I always thought the original jockey looked like a giant size race and not an engineer with an outer suit. My guess is Ridley Scott had the same idea initially. I'm not at all impressed with the "black goo" idea. I always thought the eggs produced a face hugger and the resulting alien was part alien and part whatever the host was resulting in an alien perfectly designed to hunt that type of host. This makes them highly adaptable to whatever environment they end up in.

Ridley Scott did not come up with the concept nor story, he just directed it. So Prometheus was not the original intention or concept Alien came from. Prometheus is pretty much Scott trying to make “raised by wolves” to only be forced to tie to Alien by Fox.

Why couldn't the 'xenomorph' just be what the title of the first movie implied, an Alien. When the first movie came out, I believed that the space jockey came across this alien species on a planet somewhere, was infected and succumbed to it. That's what it does. The main reason that both PROMETHEUS and A. COVENANT failed mostly on the narrative is that Ridley Scott decided to avoid the source material that ALIEN creator and writer Dan O'Bannon had made for the Xenomorphs and the Space Jockeys themselves. Scott himself said "I can't tell a story, I'm not a storyteller" and this is clearly seen on his two last attempts.
ALIEN was successful only in part of Scott's approach on the filming of the script, but Mostly the actual ALIEN creator Dan O'Bannon and to an extent Ron Shusset should had gotten more credit due to the story and script. Of course O'Bannon's inspiration for the entire story also gets credit, the Late H.R. Giger. Yet, we can see that by straying too far from the actual creator's idea is how you ruin not just a movie, but also a franchise. Scott's obsession with robots, religious stuff and Michael Fassbender is not ALIEN, because O'Bannon whom also used H.P. Lovecraft as inspiration for his story. This means that the title ALIEN was not just relegated to the creatures, but to space or the cosmos itself.
What's worse is that Ridley Scott is at it again, because he can't stand that James Cameron surpassed him by indeed respecting the source material more and just added some stuff to it to make it even more iconic. The ALIEN franchise needs new blood and keep Ridley Scott away from it.

It's a shame that they had humanized the engineers too much, although who knows, maybe in the future they will be replaced (it's better) or something like that. Curious to think that during the entire saga we only saw all the bio-engineering of the Space Jockey fossilized while in Scorn they implement that but as more organic What I liked about the space jockeys was as if an astronaut was organically assimilated with his spacesuit and at the same time they looked like torsos that crawled in the grimy and sticky veins/corridors of the spaceship (perhaps at the same time it was also a living organism ) at least in this comic they showed us a more mummified than fossilized version of the Space Jockey

The idea that the xenomorphs were an alien species even to the space jockeys, and that even they didn't know where they came from, was always scarier than them being a result of engineer creation. When I saw Alien as a kid I always thought the egg-hall was just part of their ship the xenomorphs had filled with eggs before expiring, much like the alien queen infesting the station basement in Aliens - a disgusting goodbye gift they leave behind wherever they are.

Prometheus ripped a lot off of this story. It does line up well with some of the ideas that they wanted to go with a promethus sequel. The old school jockies could still exist in cannon if that line holds up, that being that the engineers were created by higher beings themselves, which were dubbed "alphas" and that they tried to mimic their creators, keeping with the theme of creator and created. The alphas could very well be the old school space jockies. The jockey was larger and there were some real differences between the derilict and the juggernaut.

Perhaps I missed any mention of the fact that the crew from the Nostromo landed on the planet to investigate a signal that at first was thought to be a distress signal. (Of course we found out The Company wanted the crew to investigate this signal for their own nefarious reasons.) However, it turned out to be a warning from the pilot in the derelict ship for other ships to stay away. This key tenet seems to be constantly overlooked in many of the commentaries. Also we don’t seem to know how the derelict ship seems to have such a vast amount of xenomorph eggs. Were they importing them? Ripley said in Aliens, that Kane said he saw thousands of those eggs. Also in Aliens it seemed the warning signal from the derelict that had been broadcasting for a very long time was totally non existent for the Terraformers, they were oblivious until Carter Burke told one the terraformers to go look for the derelict, hence, the whole colony’s infection. Make it make sense.

The movie doesnt go into the backstory, that was the novelization. You are correct from what i read in your comment, the company sent them there to collect a specimen, all other concerns "rescinded" (an odd word to use) and it was 'genuiney hoped that you would survive...', lol.
It works from the point of view of an off the books company project. It doesnt work so well as a neverending nefariousness of the company forever. Unfortunately thats what the fiction writers tend to do: repeat ad nauseum the idea that the companies are only ever corrupt, are never good, always in conspiracy, etc.
Theres no way in reality that it would go on. Weyland wouldve been embroiled in special inquiries, made to resign, the company wouldve lost licences and been fined billions, etc. The company may have been broken up.
The government wouldve declared war on the xenomorph, wars would be fought, medals of honor handed out, etc.
Then the woke leftist corruption of our societies could continue, climate change would be the no1 worry, and gender inequality would go back to being the thing that worries our leaders the most.

In Alien, there's a "layer of mist just covering the eggs that reacts when broken". It certainly seems like this is something put in place by the Space Jockeys, some form of warning system or similar safety measure, which would imply that they definitely know that the eggs are there, which probably would imply that they put them there in the first place. To me the best explanation is that these are intended as weapons (whether they were designed by the Space Jockeys or not), but that this particular Space Jockey has the unfortunate fate of dying to his own weapons, due to some unforeseen failure of these precautions. Effectively it's similar to how a human bomber pilot may perish due to a malfunction causing a bomb to explode aboard his plane.

The concept seem fascinating and expand even further into this universe. It could also ensure to answer why the Engineers seem to have similar technical supremacy of this species, by making them the creators of the Engineers.
