  • Hi everyone,
    Thank you so much for coming and viewing my video, it means a lot!
    In this video (the first of my new TH-cam series) I will be introducing my new project R53. In my next videos I will be showing what fixes I need to do to get her shipshape so please stay tuned - I promise I will get better with each video haha!
    We haven't got a name for her yet so feel free to drop that in the comments. We hope you like our video - hopefully one or two of you will subscribe as well! :-)
    Mim xx

    I've just bought an electric blue r53 but I love the black and chrome. My 1st car was a black and chrome leyland mini do I've kinda gone full circle. Anyway had my car for 3 weeks and timing chain went. £900 later and it's up and running nicely. It's in amazing condition for its age. Never known a car to have so many mixed feelings for but it's a joy to drive. I wish there were more mini guys like you based in South devon

      Hi Dan, Great to hear you have a mini but sorry to hear about your chain! Glad you have managed to sort it though! Hopefully we can meet at a show one day! Thanks so much for watching! Miriam xx

    Just stumbled across this channel and I LOVE it! I'm just going through exactly the same with my R53. Decided to spend on it rather than scrap. Starting with a Milltek cat back system being fitted on Thursday. Got loads more planned, definitely worth doing on such a classic car! New subscriber. Keep 'em coming.

    Thinking about getting this as a project as well! I drove a standard mini Cooper 1.6, 116 hp, and it was a blast! Now I want to get this supercharged S R53 and do some mods to it...you're an inspiration...subbed!

    I love these cars, they handle great and you can rag them silly and feel like a hero behind the wheel. That said, the worst job I have done any vehicle is a clutch change on one of these, like the videos and keep up the good work ! 👍

      @@ModAMiniGarage mate, you've got to take the whole front end of the car apart, drop the subframe... It's just a pig if a job !! Would if killed for a 4 poster lift rather than axle stands in the drive way hahaha The best of luck with it ! 👍

    For the rims, ChrisFix has a video on how to fix them. I’d love to see how yours turn out. I need to fix the rims on my 04 R53. Unfortunately I can’t seem to get mine running at the moment. Found that the alternator was bad, but also that there was low pressure in one of the valves. So tomorrow I am changing the piston ring on the third cylinder. Actually found your video on changing the gaskets quite useful as I figured I’d do that as well considering the circumstances. I appreciate the hard work you put into making sure your videos are informative; as you do when you add in text and audio after recording.

We need to do an engine rebuild on our track mini so we will be doing the piston rings on that at some point so let me know if you have any tips!! Thank so much for getting in touch :) Miriam xx

    Oil leaks are common on the r53 the main culprits are the rear crank seal oil (change when renewing clutch) front crank oil seal in the oil pump cover . oil filter housing to block. crank sensor (front bottom side of the engine block) rocker cover gasket. sump gasket . if your removing the engine best way is to take it out in one unit with the gearbox this way you don't have to remove the subframe
    .if you need any advise im happy to help a fellow r53 owner out .

    That oil leak will be the rocker cover gasket. Common fault along with the knock sensor oring, oil housing seal, oil cooler seals and sump gasket. Anyway. Good luck. Subbed 👍

    you can pull those rims off, sand those rough edges smooth and repaint them and they will look pretty good although not quite as good as just new wheels

      I did actually record a video of me doing all that, but they didn't come out very good hahaha so never edited it all up, but your right they were soooo much better than they were! Used them for around 6 months before chopping them in :) thank you so much for watching! Mirian xx

    My daughter is looking one just like this for her 21st birthday. She accidentally on purpose sent me the link to this channel 😂 Not knowing an awful lot about the “ new” minis can I ask is this standard body styling on the R53 or is it an aftermarket body kit ?? Looks stunning ...... sorely tempted to buy one for myself !! Thank you 👍🏼

    • @ModAMiniGarage
      @ModAMiniGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is kind of standard... The cooper S came with a slightly different body kit to the R50, ours however has the JCW Aero kit, which is essentially a front and rear bumper and side skirts... The parts are getting rarer now so arent cheap you will pay around £5-600 for the lot, but it is worth it :) also a lot of cars have it so look for one with the kit fitted :) if you need a hand with anything drop us an email on contact@modamini.co.uk and we can talk you through what to look for :) all the best, Miriam xx

    I wonder what causes all of these minis to rust in the same place on the boot, and if anything can be done to prevent it?

    • @ModAMiniGarage
      @ModAMiniGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We wondered the same thing... Depending on the mini it can be either side aswell... Most common seems to be the same as ours though, but have seen it both sides.... Would like to find out! The guy who paints the brakes we sell has offered to look into it if we give it to him to repair... But it's quite expensive to have done when a second hand bootlid is only £70ish... Might have a crack ourselves though!! Watch this space

      I pretty much have this sussed out, having experienced a bloody annoying leak on my 06 R53.
      What tends to happen is over time the clips that hold the belt line strip on the tailgate against the rear window go brittle and snap, often not to the point the trim comes off but enough so that water can get between the seal....it then just runs through the clip holes and into the tailgate cavity. The clips are actually a terrible design....they have a tiny foam gasket on them but this soon disappears when the clip breaks down.
      The paint and rust protection that side of the boot isnt great so after (admittedly) quite a bit of time of persistently being wet the tailgate rots from the inside out.
      On mine several clips from the middle (below the wiper arm) to the drivers side were completely busted....however as it was only the connection to the car and not the clip itself that was knackered (and that if replaced it'd no doubt happen again) I used some spray activated adhesive to glue the clips to the tailgate which both attached them to the car and also provided a weatherproof seal......I guess silicone could be used but it's a pig to work with and it takes time to dry.
      Other weak points are the 3rd brake light and the tailgate handle gasket.....I replaced both of those first off but it was the belt line trim that was the problem.
      I found with mine that my boot seal was getting wet and filling up from the water emptying out of the drain hole...also with the inner cover off I could see that one side of the covers felt soundproofing was hectic g soaked......thankfully not enough to get into the boot itself but I guess with bad enough weather it would have done.
      Hope this helps someone as it's a bloody odd one to diagnose and had me pulling hair for a while!

    If your main goal is showing other people that girls are as good as boys, your motives are all wrong. Not everything has to have a SJW meaning behind it. Do what you want to do because the journey and the accomplishment are what's fun. Not just to prove something that no men that I know believe, nor say. When I find out I'm good at something I don't affiliate it with anything other than, "cool, I'm good at this, I feel great 'bout that. Do people often go out of their way to tell you you can't do something or to put you down? Is it just guys who do it? When someone says something like that to me, I just choose not to associate with them. Anyways, I hope your endevors go well. 👍

    • @ModAMiniGarage
      @ModAMiniGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      aww no not at all - I fully believe in giving everything a go whether boys or girls! It's just that I am part of lots of groups where the girlfriends/wives don't show much interest and I want to prove that cars aren't as "boring" or "time wasting" as some (a lot!) girls think! almost all guys I have spoken to or meet have been as supportive and lovely as you - especially as it has been so much fun working together and i would love other couples to have that too!

      @Jon smith You edited your comment and still couldn't come up with proper fucking english and grammar. Please, don't bother to read the short chat we had. Please, don't actually understand the conversation that took place months ago that didn't concern your misunderstood response then, nor does it now. What the fuck does being a mechanic have anything to do with what I addressed? How the fuck did you tie that to being a man? I'm above this, I'm only giving enough shits to help you understand that if you only see one piece of the whole puzzle that has been solved before you, (right in front of you), maybe you need to take your unintelligent responses elsewhere. Since you seem to not understand people when they articulate, and punctuate clearly. God I hate being comments angry
      P.S. The parenthesised is just in case you didn't understand the puzzle before you is her and my chat that came to an end on neutral terms. Mooonths ago. 🤦‍♂️
