Really enjoyed this, and thanks for leaving in the 'oops thats not gone to plan' parts. Great way for people like me to learn how to recover when things dont go to plan. 1:11:20 Holy fuck I want to kiss you for showing me this trick. The least favourite part of working on my R53 is getting those intercooler boots on. I didn't even have as much trouble with the supercharger air diverter, but those boots.... I was struggling with them for like 45 minutes before walking away, wanted to look at videos on how other people put them on, I watched the whole video and seeing that was the icing on the cake! Good luck with the garage! I hope things have gone well in the last 12 months.
Hahahaha well I'm glad that's helped someone! It's something Jon worked out not sure it's the done thing but it's what we do :) thanks so much for watching! Miriam xx
Another entertaining video with all the ups & downs of home mechanics! Wish I’d seen this video a week ago as I hand filed all the front castings, which took a while! But forgot to remove the back brackets so my Airtec sat high & the bonnet wouldn’t shut properly! 🤨 Happily I realised my error on removing the Airtec & now it fits great 👍 great tip on the snoot boots as I really struggled putting the pro hose boots on so reused the stock boots as the clamps fit more snug & made for purpose, so hopefully no airleaks as I’ve heard there can be issues with the silicone versions. Great vid as always & you both have a great chemistry on/off screen! Congrats on the garage & get me booked in for brakes, exhaust & more soon! 😋😋
Hi Neil, I apologise for being slow hahaha we recorded this video in April so it's been a long time coming! When Jon fitted his Airtec for the first time he left those brackets in to lol love and learn hey! The pro hose boots you should be able to get to seal fine we have never personally had issues getting them to seal, a good dousing of soapy water over the snoots should tell you if they are leaking or not :) please do let us know if you want booking in! We are desperate for work at the moment so if you do need anything do get in touch :) thanks so much for watching and commenting, Miriam xx
Mod A Mini Garage Thanks I’ll be in touch very soon regarding brakes & a full scorpion exhaust, plus maybe a couple of service items (wheel bearings, gear selector cables & power steering fan 👍👍
Great video 👍. Well done for persevering, I put an Airtec top mount intercooler on my R53 last year and it's not a great fit but I managed to get it right in the end, also fitted an MSD coil pack Magnecor HT leads and Iridium plugs. The coil pack leads and plugs made a huge difference in performance 👍👍👍👍👍 the intercooler not as much as I expected 😟. I haven't done a reduced charger pulley as I'm not physically able to anymore, however I'd love to get it done but only a 15 percent not 17. I love your videos, honest home mechanics shows the ups and downs and the problems that we all encounter lol. I noticed during the video that your near side strut top has mushroomed really bad, i had same problem so jacked the car up dropped the struts and hammered flat with a piece of 2x4 wood and lump hammer after which I installed Indurator plates and Cravenspeed strut tower defender plates and 16 months on no more mushrooms lol. Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to see what your next upgrade will be. Take care 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I'm really glad that these videos are helping some crack on and be brave or at least entertaining someone 🙂 the pulley would make a massive difference to your setup by the sounds of things so definately something to consider in the future. If you near Essex let us know and we can help for sure 🙂 we had noticed the mushrooming one of those things I'm ignoring at the moment but will be fixing soon, might even do a video on it 😋 thanks again for watching, Miriam xx

Looks like you need a supercharger pulley tool and a chain vise grip to make your life easier. The pulley comes off in about 2 mins with an impact gun after. Definitely a necessity for your garage especially dealing with R53 pulley swaps.
This was the worst we have done, all the others have come off perfectly, I'm unsure why this one was different. Hey ho live and learn! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Miriam xx

Good video! I would like to question as to why you decided to change out the super charger pulley without removing the front end and super charger? It would seem to be easier to do it like a normal super charger service and replace the super charger oil at the same time. I also like to use anti-seize on the spark plugs esp. since they are going into an aluminum head.
Hi Gene, we have already done the supercharger service the year before and as you say it's waaaaayyyyy easier with the supercharger off. As for the anti-seize on the spark plugs, they have a tendancy to shoot out, not sure if this would help or not so can advise either way! Thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx
@@ModAMiniGarage Keep up the good work girl! Really do enjoy your videos and the mods you are doing to your minis. My wife has a 2003 S that I am currently doing a super charger rebuild on and a 2013 JCW Coupe. What a blast that is!
I sure wish you could have had your before and after dyno day as you wanted! The pulley is so much fun but all over the interwebs the airtec is much maligned for being worse than the OE IC. Apparently the only IC better than the stock OE is the OE GP. Its gorgeous though and I cant imagine its bad.... why I whished you could have that dyno before and after! maybe at a later date?
Definately something we really wanted to do, just with covid we had free time to do a video whilst everything was locked down so we missed out. :( My bum Dyno tells me it's made a massive difference though so just for feel wise it's great but no exact figures I'm afraid :( would like to think around 20bhp :) thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx

@@ModAMiniGarage cool, thanks very much for replying, yeah most videos show the bottom coming off but I kinda thought that was redundant! Ta very much 👍
Quick question! Im on mod a mini at the moment and I’m thinking of ordering the airtec intercooler and the 15% pulley with the belt and spark plugs. Does the (on sale) £42.50 spark plug pack come with 4?
Hi Elliot, thank you so much for your order :) just to confirm yes it does come with all 4 :) I'll get all this ordered in for you and out as fast as we can :) if you need anything else or have questions please do email us at contact@modamini.co.uk. thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx
Nah should be fine doing all that without a map :) only time you need mapping is when you go down the route of cam and larger injectors. That being said, if you only plan on doing these mods only then a map will make everything work at its best :) I hope this helps, Miriam xx
Hi again Miriam, just would like to ask your opinion on which intercooler should I get from yr self??? Airtec or GRS ????? I know the Airtec has a nicer finish.. which is the best for cooling wise? will put order in this monday the 5th.. Cheers :-)
Hmm that's a great question... For track days and fast driving the airtec, or for a daily the grs both to be honest are really good and there's very little difference performance wise between the 2 :) the grs is probably the more comprehensive kit... Hope this helps, Miriam xx
If you are still having issues with the rocker breather pipe being to big, measure the internal diameter of that pipe and replace it with silicone pipe. Same size internal diameter but smaller external diameter. If that makes sense. Great video aswell.
Hey I noticed that when reinstalling your new spark plugs you switched up the 3rd and 4th cable. Did this cause any issues? or is this something you notice right away as you start the car, just curious. Otherwise great video! hope your mini is still doing well.

Mod A Mini Garage if you weren’t over 18,000km away I’d be happy to let you guys have a go but I don’t think I’ve got the patience for that pulley! I am also going to forever have Jon’s voice telling me “undo one and just loosen the other” over and over...
hahahahha i swear he meant undo one bracket and loosen the other bracket, not undo one of the bolts on both brackets and loosen the other bolt on both brackets 🤣🤣
We just ran out of time to be able to video it :( does make a massive difference though! It's night and day different so really is worth doing. We're going to be modifying the airbox next so hopefully get a bit more whine :) definately have a crack yourself, if the puller pulls it off it can be done in 30mins-1 hour :) thanks for watching, Miriam xx
I'm so glad I got my Airtec intercooler years ago, that new design is just awful. Airtec should be ashamed of themselves. Great video though. I'd have tightened the pulley tool bolt manually ;-)
Wow you must have some muscles! If I didn't have Walter I wouldn't get close... Although I think it him that broke our puller! Hahaha the new design has a few tweeks that apparently allow for better cooling so would be interesting to compare it with an old one someday 😁 thanks souch for watching and having the first comment, Miriam xx
@@Tryingmybestsince1999 Hacking away at the top of the engine, what clown at Airtec thought that was a good idea? And even then it doesn't really clear the breather pipe.
@@Tryingmybestsince1999Its not horrendous to fit and does still fit, they have changed the design of the connectors either side but also changed the core slightly so its larger, means fitment is worse but the cooler works just as well :) Miriam xx

Definately something we really wanted to do, just with covid we had free time to do a video whilst everything was locked down so we missed out. :( My bum Dyno tells me it's made a massive difference though so just for feel wise it's great but no exact figures I'm afraid :( would like to think around 20bhp :) thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx
the struggle is real on that dipstick lol ... i have tried so many ways to try and make that easier to get out...no success
Hahahahaha and they break so often aswell!!! Thank you so much for watching, Miriam xx
Love a hands on girl. Well done you. 🙂
Awww thank you! I do try! Need to find some time to do some more videos :) thabks for watching! Miriam xx
Looking to get this done, is this something you could supply and install in house? if so how much. Thanks
Yes not a problem at all, did you just want the pulley belt and plugs or the intercooler aswell? If you visit our website www.modamini.co.uk and send us a message through there or our facebook we'll be able to sort something out for you :) thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx
No test drive? :(
We should have done one 😭😭😭😭 regret it till this day! Can only say it makes a HUGE difference!!!! Thanks for watching and commenting, Miriam xx
Wow what an informative video. I’ll definitely save this and consider this upgrade! Unfortunately I’m in Canada so I can’t ask you for help but I’ll do my best to have this done correctly with these or similar parts. Thanks for the help!!
No problems at all glad it's helped someone :) I'm sure the parts will be available over there if not let us know and we can sort it out for you no problems :) tha KS so much for watching, Miriam xx
I just ordered the Cravenspeed pulley removal tool. You can borrow or buy from me when I'm done using it on my Mini, which should be by end of March. I'm in British Columbia.
Jeff
Did you need to or not need to take off the lower engine mount? Thanks 🙂
Just the top one James :) some people do remove the bottom one but it's not necessary :) hope this helps, Miriam xx
Do you need to get all this mapped in or not?
Nah should be fine doing all that without a map :) only time you need mapping is when you go down the route of cam and larger injectors. That being said, if you only plan on doing these mods only then a map will make everything work at its best :) I hope this helps, Miriam xx
Hi again Miriam, just would like to ask your opinion on
which intercooler should I get from yr self???
Airtec or GRS ????? I know the Airtec has a nicer
finish.. which is the best for cooling wise? will put order
in this monday the 5th.. Cheers :-)
Hmm that's a great question... For track days and fast driving the airtec, or for a daily the grs both to be honest are really good and there's very little difference performance wise between the 2 :) the grs is probably the more comprehensive kit... Hope this helps, Miriam xx
@@ModAMiniGarage Thanks for getting back to me Miriam and have a lovely day hun 😊
❤🙊xxx
Really you want/need to remove the OEM intercooler brackets if you stick a larger cooler on like the Airtec one 😉
Hahahahaha definately!! Second time I've fitted one and second time I've forgotten hahahaha thanks for watching, Miriam xx
If you are still having issues with the rocker breather pipe being to big, measure the internal diameter of that pipe and replace it with silicone pipe. Same size internal diameter but smaller external diameter. If that makes sense. Great video aswell.
That's a really good idea! If I get some free time next time I take the cooler off I may just look into this :) thanks so much for watching, Miriam xx
Hey I noticed that when reinstalling your new spark plugs you switched up the 3rd and 4th cable. Did this cause any issues? or is this something you notice right away as you start the car, just curious. Otherwise great video! hope your mini is still doing well.
Loved the video, I am considering a R53 these mods make it worth while!
They are really good cars for road and track! Honestly not many cars out there with the kind of feel these cars give! If you near Essex feel free to come try our one out :) got a couple up for sale to :) thanks for watching :) Miriam xx
I have been trying to contact you and don't seem to be getting any reply back from your garage, ... Are you shut now? Need my handbrake cable done. Got one email from you, then I replied but never heard from you since.
Hi Dave, I am really sorry! I have replied now :) I look forward to hearing from you, Miriam xx
@@ModAMiniGarage Replied back ;-)
Looks great! need to put a pulley on mine! Woulda been cool to see your reaction to the difference it makes Performance wise.
That would have been a good shout to be honest, I have loads more to fit so will have to make sure I do this 😊 thanks so much for watching and commenting, Miriam xx
Not a traditional ‘how to’! But another great video. I’ll be honest, it’s convinced me to spend the money on getting someone else to do it...
Awww no!! It's meant to make you want to do it yourself 😉 it's not as bad as it looks I promise 🙂 such a good mod to do, definately worth it, thanks for watching, Miriam xx
Mod A Mini Garage it made for your funniest video yet, you and Jon make a good double act!
Thanks so much! Haha we were going for informative but we'll take funny :)
Reverse mounted brake discs. 🌀
It looks great after seeing yr vid I'm definitely thinking of upgrading my self now yr have to make a vid how it performs 😀👍
Don’t know what I’d be without you👆🏽yes you!!
Aww thank you so much!I'm so glad these videos help people :) thank you so much for watching, Miriam xx
What's wrong with the new design?? I was thinking on buying one but now I'm like :/
@@Tryingmybestsince1999 Hacking away at the top of the engine, what clown at Airtec thought that was a good idea? And even then it doesn't really clear the breather pipe.
@@Tryingmybestsince1999Its not horrendous to fit and does still fit, they have changed the design of the connectors either side but also changed the core slightly so its larger, means fitment is worse but the cooler works just as well :) Miriam xx
WD40 is ya friend 👍
Why didn’t you heat it first, some lube would have helped.
You are probably right hahaha just didn't think of it at the time 😅 thanks so much for watching! Miriam xx
@@ModAMiniGarage I’ve just purchased an R53 for a summer project here we goooooo
It will be amazing for sure!! They are such good fun Cars!! If you are into modifying visit our shop :) www.modamini.co.uk we have loads of stuff not listed so if you need a hand with anything let us know :) Miriam xx
That was butchered 🤦🤦🤦 no more UGG a duggas on pulley pullers plz . Or smacking a pulley off a shaft with a hammer 🔨 or gringing up too a precision ground shaft with swarf going every where and open inlets near by 😭😭😭😞 🙏 plz take more time . Good luck on Ur new adventure . Just found Ur channel as looking at buying a mini and looking at mods . Video was entertaining 😂 but plz stop the butchering shafts 🙏
Hahaha it was a bit butchered! 😅 I wish you could actually see the time stamps on some of these clips though because honestly the pulley wasn't coming off and I couldn't get home unless it did and we had cars needed on the ramps!! For my own car I was just desperate to get it off and done - probably like most mechanics, my car gets the least care and love out of any vehicle I come up against!! Hope we can keep entertaining you tho, thank you so much for watching! 🤣 all the best, miriam xx
Nice hair..😎
Thank you very much 🥰, Miriam xx
Thats why women have small feet and they get married in white to blend in with all orther kitch appliances
