      If you work and you pay taxes, You should be able to afford reasonably priced healthcare if your work does not provide it as a benefit. If you don't work, and don't have any disability, and are not a American citizen (or permanent resident) I don't see why the country owes you free coverage. Is that a little clearer?

    • @JR-pr1xh
      @JR-pr1xh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Munozl360 Healthcare is absolutely, positively NOT something anyone owes you. No one is entitled to services or products. If you think the health care industry has uncompetitive prices then you should stop supporting them with your business.
      How about the government stops its bullshit taxation and stop spending on bullshit entitlement programs and let those being taxed keep what they earn.

    My jaw dropped more on the Bernie Sanders clip, than the Obama tough press clip.
    "in terms our relationship to poor and working people our record is worse than vitually any other country on earth." - Sanders
    Dude, what planet do you live on? makes me think that Sanders hasn't been to a lot of countries and seen the injustices of people in power using their power to remain wealthy while keeping their citizens poor. Venezuela, Chad, Saudia Arabia, Bangladesh, India, and North Korea just to name a FEW countries that are just a "little" worse than the U.S. But hey, he sung the "only reason people are poor is because rich people" tune for so long that he either believes it completely, or held hands for so long with everyone else who sings it he can't stop. Poor people aren't always poor because of injustice. Well, yes they are, some #notallpoor people are poor because they are lazy, unwilling to change, unwilling to learn, unwilling to put forth the effort to make their life circumstances improve. But hey, I must be a cold-hearted bastard by Bernie Sanders standards if I don't think that all people should get literally the same thing regardless of effort, motivation, or intention. THAT btw, is injustice.
    I love the example Bernie Sanders used btw. "I have access to buying a 10 million dollar home, I don't have the money to do that." I couldn't come up with a better example of why he's wrong, because HE is the one who made. Yes, Mr. Sanders, having access to buying a home, and having the money to buy the home ARE two different things, as you point out in your example. Contrary to what your premise of "having the right to" (code for deserve btw). Because "right" indicates you should be allowed to do or have whatever the right entails, regardless of the circumstances. You don't "deserve" a ten million dollar home in the same way that you don't "deserve" a home at all. You deserve the right to equality opportunity employment, you deserve the right to get paid for your work, and you deserve the right to the access, "the access" remember, to buy that home with the money you've earned. Contrary to what you think, the government isn't the golden goose of solving everyone's problems. It CAN solve "some" problems. But funny how the more power and control a government has to improve your life, they end up doing the exact opposite and making MORE problems. This is because Bernie Sanders refuse to accept the truth that humans are instinctively immoral, selfish beings. In fact, they refuse to accept that there is an objective morality of any kind, instead saying that "morality" is just a perception of the mind, and whatever is best for you is what's best in principle. That's moral relativism btw. And THAT thinking leads to societal injustices btw, because then you don't care about how your choices affect those around you. Something that the Left constantly accuses conservatives of, that "you don't care about the greater good." How ironic and hypocrital. No liberals, we believe in objective morality BECAUSE we care about those around us. HE just defeated his own argument with that example.

    Ben, a suggested alternative to view the US record on compassion and healthcare:
    "The USA is the most compassionate nation on earth, with the highest quality healthcare available. But due to a misguided approach by both major parties over the last 60 years, the healthcare system has become the most expensive and heavily regulated industry in the world.
    It's the Trump administration objective to implement a systemic, market based overhaul of healthcare delivery and cost management, putting downward pressure on the administrative burden and cost. The direction of the new system will be towards more cash-based transactions, with insurance companies and Government departments intervening predominantly in major procedures, rather than routine checkups and procedures"
    IMO

    At 20:00ish when Bernie starts talking about the health care tip. My simple rebuttal would be to ask "Are we now going to define compassion by working for free in our chosen trade?", "When a storm takes out electricity to the community do the electricians work for free because electricity is a basic human right?". Welcome back to reality folks. The federal government isn't efficient enough nor are they competent enough to handle a trade such as healthcare, or any trade for that matter.

      Ironically, he gets a paragraph because of his skin instead of the content of his character. It'll probably look like this.
      "Obama was the 44th President of the United States and the first African-American president. He was very charming, but his ambitions were thwarted domestically and abroad by strong and unexpected opposition. Such opposition, such as the Arab Spring, were made stronger due to his indecisiveness against unreasonable opponents."
      --Excerpt from future history book.
      In reality, he's an amalgamation of Tiberius Gracchus and Berchtold. Gracchus for his failed populist reforms and Berchtold for his foreign policy towards the Middle East. I blame Clinton for some of the execution, but it's damn near incomprehensible. Kill Gaddafi, refuse to support Mubarak, support "moderate" rebels, continue NATO encroachment, allow Iran to gain nuclear power. I can't tell what he was trying to do. He just didn't have a vision of what our relationship with the Middle East and just flailed around. I used to think the whole "secret Muslim" accusation was just BS, but it would explain his bizarre gutlessness towards Radical Islam.

    People conflate what it is to be poor in the US v other nations like Ghana.
    Yes, global poverty has declined dramatically. And, yes, most of the poor in the US have a TV or a car - material goods that farmer in Ghana may never see.
    But, let's not pretend that the hard working American who works two to three jobs to pay for astronomically high rent, fare to and from work and maybe Healthcare doesn't struggle, sometimes deeply.
    Perhaps, instead of trying to compare the Ghana farmer and inner city American, let's demand that asset prices and inflation aren't goal seeked by fed and political policy.

In all the riots how many people do you think took part? the average citizen isn't represented by the loudest and stupidest. I reckon the average persons personal experience with other races is better today than at any other point in our history. granted I have no numbers to back that up but citing numbers on how people "feel" about race relations is not proof of anything. again most people "feel" crime is up despite the fact it is not.

    Ben is one of the few commentators that does a a near perfect job at presenting the facts and both points of views with little to no bias, despite his conservative leanings.
    However, at 22:39 he cherry-picks the data to support his claim. Yes, the average non-poor Swede, French, and German does have less living space than the average poor American, but that doesn't mean that the poor American is better off than the non-poor Swede. Houses in the US are generally bigger than houses in Europe. Same goes for cars, but you wouldn't say that someone is better off because they have a bigger car. I've seen houses in Europe that are half as big as some American houses, but cost 3 times as much. The average poor American can't even think about affording the house of the average non-poor Swede.
    I fully agree with him though that being poor in the US is not as bad as some people would have us believe, and there's no denying that the quality of life is only improving.

    I respect Ben Shapiros views and commentary, I do disagree with him when he says Trump is a politician, yes Trumps views have changed over time but to label him a politician seems shallow. Anyone care to discuss? I know his flip flopping on issues is an issue we should discuss.

      When you run for (and win, for that matter) the Presidency, you become a politician by the very definition of the word. So YES, Trump is very much a politician, there is nothing to discuss on that front, there is no arguing semantics.

    Ben, I don't believe you understand that there is a shrinking amount of people in that 1% as the number of people who control half the world's wealth went from 64 to 8 over the last two years. Don't you think in a society where political influence is based on wealth that it is a problem that there are a smaller and smaller amount of people that run the show.

  • @Philiptanzer
    @Philiptanzer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You cheated using stats there, said "average income" and that 91% of people means more money than 81% of people. Income distributions are skewd, if say you have the 51st to 81st perecentile of Germans earning £100,000 and the 50th earning £50,000 while Americans between the 50th and 91st percentiles earned £75,000 you can have a situation where the median (proper average for skewd distributions) for Americans is higher but you have lower than the German social security.
    I just made up the numbers to give you an example, when I hear people telling me things I know can be untrue I immediately think they are lying to me (even if it was just a mistake, though I would have thought you would have been sharp enough to spot that). Terrible politicians use this trick to lie all the time, please don't do it yourself. Its also a trick used to inflate budgets in the public sector so you have a vested interest to clamp down on it and not propagate it.

    • @samr7542
      @samr7542 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That could be true and all, but I don't see any evidence. A better comparison would be the real wages (purchasing power) of mean and/or median income retirees. So who actually has a higher standard of living and can purchase more stuff? Mean/median German retirees, or American retirees? I don't know the answer to that, of course, and I don't know if that has ever been calculated (it would probably be difficult to do so), but I really don't believe Ben was trying to intentionally mislead there.

    • @Philiptanzer
      @Philiptanzer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not bothered about the reality of the matter either way, just this use of stats is misleading. I will leave it to Ben to reflect on it whether he made an error or was being tricksy, if nothing else it would get a mathematician a little work for Ben in the future - which cannot be a bad thing :D
      If there was one thing I would do it would be to move a stats module from final years of high school to 14-15 year olds learning it (it doesn't need much maths skill or knowledge really), our politics is so governed by stats these days we need better education on them for all our people. This would help both policy and trust when it comes to government.
