    I am an Indian and I approve your argument. We need more free market not less.
    More regulation leads to more government/power, which leads to more corruption.
    Corruption leads to black money, which then leads to wealth accumulation.
    Corruption also leads to less new businesses due to high cost of satisfying regulations and filling the corrupt regulators' pockets. A game only the rich can play, who there by accumulate more wealth.
    I have seen many instances where businesses and people who were totally on the right side of the law were forced to bribe because their file inexplicably "had a lot of problems" and was apparently "illegal" when it clearly was not.
    I have seen government officials look at a file, and ask for the documents which they were holding right there in their hand. Those document would mysteriously be invisible to their eye until their "hand was wet" (Colloquial for Bribe me).

    Ben just tried to argue that 8 people having more wealth than the bottom 50% of the world population is a good thing. And then he went on to argue that 1% of the world having more wealth then the rest of the 99% as a good thing. I bet he would be singing a different tune if life dealt him a poor hand.

    I ARGUED WITH MY DAD ABOUT THIS, HIM BEING A STATE EMPLOYEE AND MY SELF NOT BEING.
    NON STATE AND FEDERAL EMPLOYEES WANTED TAXPAYERS TO ADD ANOTHER HOLIDAY WHEN THEY HAVE SO MANY NOW. IT WOULD COST TAX PAYERS MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. NON STATE AND FEDERAL EMPLOYEES WANTED TO ELIMINATE A PAID HOLIDAY AND SUBSTITUTE IT WITH MLK HOLIDAY RATHER THEN ADDING ANOTHER PAID DAY OFF. THE STATE AND FEDS ALREADY GET SO MANY PAID OFF HOLIDAYS OFF AND WE FELT WHY SHOULD WE THE PEOPLE HAVE ANOTHER ONE. WE WANTED TO REMOVE ON AND REPLACE IT WITH MLK DAY. Another good point Ben makes...the "poor" in this country are waaayyy better off than the actual poor in most other countries. I've had the pleasure of visiting many foreign countries during my 20 years in the Navy, and let me tell you...there's absolutely NO place like the good ol' U.S. of A.! You haven't seen the true face of poverty until you've visited places like Haiti, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, or anywhere in Africa. Those people only wish they had it as good as our "poor" people do.

    Salaries for the middle class have not kept up with inflation or rises in productivity. The minimum wage 40 years ago was much higher than today when adjusted for inflation. This is what inequality means.

    • @Spetsnaz--21
      @Spetsnaz--21 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miranox Our minimum wage in Washington state just went up and so did the prices everywhere. Besides, minimum wage isn't for standard living, just to start out in a field of work.

    • @Miranox2
      @Miranox2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can give you many examples where the minimum wage went up and prices everywhere did not go up. Want a list?
      Also, millions of people who are not "starting out" are forced to work for minimum wage because there are no better jobs available.

    • @Spetsnaz--21
      @Spetsnaz--21 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just saying the wage doesn't need to increase everywhere. Some places may need it but I hope we can both agree that some of these wage hikes are bad for the local economy.

    • @Miranox2
      @Miranox2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of these issues can be left to individual states. My point is not about minimum wage, it's about the effective decrease in salaries for the middle class in the past 40 years. The wealthy have been taking a greater and greater portion of profits while the middle class continues to decline. Notice that Ben avoids mentioning what happened, instead saying only that we're better off than the rest of the world. He intentionally conceals information that contradicts his stance.

    Hey Ben
    I love your videos and debates, you've got great arguments and an honest approach when debating, which I find extremely humble and kind.
    Just a couple of non argumentative questions:
    1. When you in the beginning of this episode talked about World poverty vs. American citizens' wealth stats - how is it measured?
    Why i ask:
    - Because world poverty should be measured in contrast to the prices in the country.
    Some people in China beneath the 'World poverty line' might have enough money to buy food, and clothes. But if an American citizen have the same amount of money, you cant even take the bus to the supermarked for that amount.
    2. Ben, I would also like to know if you are against all kinds of redistribution?
    - public roads, public schools, public healthcare, publicly funded military etc.
    3. Can it be argued that currencies (money) as a concept shouldn't be printed by the government, because it stimulates transaction tempo in the society in compare to dealing with naturals (chicken, horses, silver, gold, instead of cotton notes).
    Dealing with money as a concept makes it possible to have an oligopoly.
    If these 7 people decided to stop investing their money and instead withdrew the money, and put it in a vault. The need for money would increase, the demand would increase, the value would there for also increase and then we actually could argue that this is modern slavery. Because the increase of value of money, isn't based on work but based on taking other peoples wealth without any kind of work.
    It would be like me wanting to buy your house, but I don't want to pay full price, so i decide to buy the two neighbor houses. Therefor i start a project where i decide to shelter homeless people and criminals in those two houses. That would make the value of your house decrease drastically and I would therefor get the chance to decrease the value of your house, just to buy it. I personally think that it should be illegal with strategies like that, because it in my view is just like stealing. If the 7 rich guys did that, they could easily increase the value of their money because of the oligopoly.
    (Sorry about my language, I'm Danish and to make sure that it is full understood I elaborate maybe as someone would to a child - take no offence.)
    Thank you for a great program :)

    Ben I agree with most of your opinions, free and open trade NOT.The one natural resources the US will never have is slave labor. It's time to put a 20% slave tax on imports from countries that don't pay a living wages. It's time to put a 20% tax on imports from countries that don't follow our minimum environment standards. FAIR TRADE

    I like a lot of what Ben says but he is being sneaky here. The global poverty percentage being slashed is because people in the third world are getting smart phones too. But if we look at Western countries the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer not just financially but socially and health wise. Like he says the upper middle class are getting richer, this is not a good thing if the low middle class and working class, poor, however it is classified is getting poorer, as there are way more more people closer to the bottom than the top.

    if the market is so great and can do no wrong than why do homeless outnumber vacant homes 5 to 1 just because America is better off doesn't mean it can't be better it doesn't mean we can't minimize suffering and poverty I'm not saying I have the solution but closing off the discussion because merica free market communism scary etc isn't going to help out anyone obviously communism is not the anwsers but we can work together to find a way to minimize the homeless problem

    What everyone needs to understand is that income is basically irrelevant. The only concern people should have standard of living. I would rather live as a poor person in America right now than the king of the world 2,000 years ago.

    • @RealJustinReed
      @RealJustinReed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liberalism isn't based on compassion and charity, but covetousness and hatred. They're not as concerned with helping the poor as they are with punishing the rich. When you dig below the level of policy and look at things on the level of values, you'll see where the real war is. This is an over simplification, but liberal values are based on doing what you want to do, whereas conservative values are based on doing what you need to do. One set of values leads to success, the other leads to failure. Liberal policies are intended to punish conservative values.

    • @Brand00d
      @Brand00d 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That or it's an unrealistic, idealistic worldview. It would be great if we could wave a magic wand and guarantee everyone perfect healthcare. They believe that government is the answer to problems when it fundamentally is not.

    • @RealJustinReed
      @RealJustinReed 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it wouldn't be great. If everybody automatically had everything they need, choices would be null and nothing we do would have value. The fact of the matter is that some lifestyles are better than others, and therefore produce better results. Liberals just want to eat their own cake and have yours too. It's nothing less than evil.
      When Cain saw that his disobedient offering was rejected and Abel's was accepted, he slew his brother out of envy. That same envy towards the rich and successful is what drives liberal philosophy and thus, liberal policy. The people harmed the most by liberal policies are not the super rich, but average men and women who are trying to live decent, moral lives.

    15:15 I don't remember the exact quote, but I think it is this. "You will know them by the fruits they bare." Thanks again Ben.
    An alternative to what you said about heroism and villainy. I would love to think Superman would always assist good and protect the innocent. When Transformers initially made contact, the government wanted checks and balances to have evidence of their underlying intentions without misuse of the governments trust. Spiderman faced defamation from a media source for no other reason than it was a good take on a story regardless of the legal implications.
    If Superman came to collect the debt we owe a hero of his kind? If Transformers decided our governments best were not worth working with? If Spiderman had a GoPro and took a media outlet to court?
    Could we really afford Superman and is it really fair of him to ask for compensation? Have the Transformers overlooked the fact that we may burn bridges because of noncompliance aka open fire on all metal beings? Should Spiderman really be taking people to court instead of winning everyone''s heart over in the end in spite of the claims stating otherwise?
    Got Faith?

  • @steve8234

    People say the rich are entitled, but lately the poor are sounding pretty entitled themselves. Why can't someone who busted their ass starting a business enjoy their wealth. If you want to stop innovation and progress tell the risk takers and investors of this world that they cannot make a profit. If capitalism wasn't around we would still be in the dark ages.

    The problem with socialist policies is not just that they want to put everyone in that middle layer of income, the real problem is that most of the times there is not enough money for everyone to be in the middle, so everyone end up in the bottom.

    • @brendanh8978
      @brendanh8978 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaeru Vonikur- the problem with socialism is socialism. If you are guaranteed a certain income out of fairness, many will do nothing. If you are also guaranteed to NOT reap the rewards of your risk, hard work, and inventiveness, why would you put your neck on the line?
      Socialism gone too far will give you a society that cannot create the internet, smart phones, solar industry and electric cars. But it will give you a lot of people that do the minimum required to get the "fair wage.

    • @janedobiesix6588
      @janedobiesix6588 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colonel Angus The sad thing is we can't seem to learn from our mistakes. No matter how many times societies have tried socialism, it has failed. And people seem to just ignore history. Soviet communism tried hard to maintain a good image but it produced so little that basic quality of life was terrible for decades. Turns out farming is a lot of work and it's hard to convince anyone to do it when you're just going to take the fruits of their labor away. Sadly, ending communism in Russia may have helped the economy, but the rampant corruption is still there. Not everyone thinks about how socialism encourages black markets and corrupt officials. There will always be a "1%" but socialism just ensures that it's the same people that know how to work the system
