    Jamie...this overview video you made for the S7 that I found is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! We just purchased/received the S7 and took it out for it's first spin. It got stuck on a carpet in the corner of our eating area. The carpet has a wide black stripe design on it so the S7 got confused and issued a "Trapped" message. I removed the items that confused it and "Resumed" the S7 via the App. The S7 sat for about a minute then decided cleaning was done and docked 😵‍💫. So I knew I needed to create a "No-Go" zone for that area but could not find how to do it. BUT.....your video sure did show me how and SO much more! This is AWESOME! Thanks so much for doing this!

      How do you like it? We have 2700 sq ft carpet, tile and vinyl. One Persian cat and 1 girl. Concerned about pet hair and ability to clean carpets. Any issues with emptying the dirt bin or hair breaking or getting stuck on rollers etc? How is the maintenance? Does it auto detect when the on-board bin is full and go back to the base for a clean or does it keep cleaning but doing a poor job because the bin is full? Does the robot detect when the outside waste bin bag is full?

    Got this vacuum for christmas and love it! I'm an architect and it has been so fun to see my house drawn using a laser equipped robot! You might mention as a no-go-zone the Christmas tree... In particular, the skirt beneath it.

    We have encountered a small issue during the mapping process. A room could not be entered so it was only scanned by the LiDAR cone through the door opening.
    Have divided the cone into a room and named it.
    Would like to help the roborock s7 to enter the room, have it to map it and thereby complete my current map.

    Jamie, Thanks for the video it was very informative. Question my house is one level flooring with the exception of my Lanai it has a drop off of a few inches. What do I do to make sure it doesn't go into this room. Do I always have to block this doorway or can I program it so it stops and doesn't go into this room and of the ledge?
    2nd Question I have a deep thick carpeting will the mop lever bring the mop up enough not to get caught on the carpet?
    3rd Question Can you program the robot S7 to do like the living room and kitchen each day and do the other rooms every few day's?
    Thanks,'
    Lou

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lou,
      Question 1. It should avoid it as the robot has cliff sensors on the bottom designed to no let it fall down stairs. If those do not work you can create a no-go zone to keep the S7 away.
      Question 2
      Likely not enough. Small or medium pile carpet only.
      Question 3
      Yes you can program it and it is very customizable.
      I am working on my full review video that will come out this week. Keep an eye out for it.

    In-depth review!
    What would you recommend for mainly hardwood (and bathroom tiles)?
    I havent been able to find a video explaining the different suction modes. I was running mine on max all the time, then I wondered about the longevity of the floors (scratches) and the motor of the robot.
    Many in the forums do not recommend doing that. I have switched to Turbo, but for hardwood they say balanced is fine.
    I just recently used "quiet" but I'm not sure if it really picks up much. I want to keep the motor in good shape in the long run, but also have good suction for clean floors.

    • @jamie.andrews

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are welcome! If you select mopping and the mop is attached it will mop (unless it is on carpet or in a no mopping zone) and it always vibrates the mop. If you select vacuum only with the mop attached it will not lower the mop or apply water.

    I cleaned the house with my old hose vacuum cleaner today. I wanted to make sure it was nice and clean for the first visit of out new S7.
    I just bought it today!
    We also got a thick hairy rug under the living room table probably 15-20 cm thick, warm and cosy. It insisted to clean there first and foremost but it got stuck each time, issuing a warning stuck message. So i need to learn no go zones and landed here :)

    This was a great video. I have two questions for you on my S7+ I just bought primarily to do my kitchen. I have mapped that room by closing off the doors so that the unit could not escape elsewhere in the house. Now I want to map some other rooms on that same floor. What to do? How do I get it to not start cleaning the immediate room and instead go and explore the rest of the house? Secondly, if I map the house but then choose to move the base to a different room does this mess up the mapping from when the base was in a different room to begin with?

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As far as question 1 to add new room you must choose a full house cleaning and let it go in the new rooms. For your second question just move the base anywhere you want and put the robot on the base and start a cleaning. It will figure put where it is on the next cleaning job. I just made a video on this a few months ago.

    Jamie, thank you so much for the detailed awesome explanation of the app, this is extremely helpful. We purchased a couple weeks ago the Roborock S7 but did not use it yet due the the Christmas decoration around the house. Now that I viewed your video we are almost ready to rock ! One question I do have, we have a 4 inch drop from the living room to the kitchen, it is an open floor plan so when the S7 starts the initial mapping it would more likely go down the drop but could not make it back up. So what would be the best option for us to get a proper initial mapping so that we can add a no go zone later ? Thank you so much and happy new year...

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should see the drop like a stair I would guess. If it does the cliff sensors would keep it from tumbling down and you would need to add that area as a different level of your home as if it was another story. Select the levels from the manage maps screen. It it does tumble down you would need to block it with a no go line. Glad my video helped you ! Happy New Year!

    Thank you for the video, I'm considering an S7. I would need much water on the mop in the kitchen but only a slight amount on the laminate floor in the dining room, because too much water would destroy it. Is that possible? Also I would like to intense mop the kitchen every evening, while the rest of the appartment should be every second day with different settings for the water amount for each room. Can I do that?
    Thank you for taking your time to answer :)

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. With the S7 you can customize each room for the amount of water it puts on the floor.
      You can manually or with a schedule perform a robot cleaning with a set intensity. The intensity level is not customizable per room though, but you can do it by cleaning rooms together that need strong intensity. I hope this helps!

      Any raised floors where the robot can not reach must be treated as a different level and carried to that level and then create a new map in that level. Each time the robot will need to be carried between levels. Hope this helps!

    When you select a full clean, does the vacuum know when its container is full, or do you have to check it? And if you have the auto empty charging base option is there settings for when to empty itself or is that automatic?

    • @jamie.andrews

      I would let it create the map using only the vacuum. You do not need to move the dock. Once you enable multiple floors you can move it to the second floor on e it completely finishes the first floor map and it will map your second floor.

    Thank you so much. The manual doesn't really tell you how to start mapping. I was dreading this but now I am looking forward to it thanks to your excellent video. I bought my GF the S7 and the Auto bin for her Bday. Tomorrow we are mapping the house. I see it will be a bit of a process but once locked in it looks like it will be very worthwhile. Every time she used her entry level Roomba she had to move things and set up barriers. This I am hoping will end that. We also have 80% tile so this unit made even more sense.
    I am proud to be that guy that bought his GF a vacuum. I actually consider this the anti-vacuum. It will free her up from having to fuss with it. At least that's the way I sold it to her! :) She is actually very happy so win win.

      @@jamie.andrews We have a 3200 sq. ft home. On it's initial mapping run I suspect i had the settings too high as it was taking a while going over the same spots. It did a little more than half which was mostly tile before it went back for a charge. The mapping is really amazing to watch. On the opposite ends of the house it seemed to save those for last I am guessing?. On the second run it started back up at 78%. Is there a way to have start when it's fully charged? It only did the master bedroom and bath before it went back for another charge. By this time it was in the do not disturb time. I think it might have to finish the closet which is off the master bath. All the way on the other side of the house it mapped at the hallway but didn't go into the two spare rooms. When it starts up again will it eventually find those rooms? It only got stuck once under a bed. It's escape routine is quite impressive.

    Thanks for a very detailed video Jamie (definitely hit 'Like'). Will definitely flatten the learning curve for when I successfully complete mapping. I hate to use you for support, but I have been having problems trying to do the initial mapping of my house and it would help to know how it decided a map was 'savable. After three attempts it finally appears to have mapped all the rooms, but when I go to save the map, it gives me a warning about manually saving. I'll definitely take your advice and turn off cleaning and send it out to map once more once the battery recharges. It has taken it it about 90 minutes to map our living areas (on the third try) but had to come back to recharge once to clean the 765 SF of floor space (no doors, just wide spans with a curved staircase in the middle - so oddly shaped). When does it decide it has enough info to automatically save the map so that I can create and edit rooms? Thanks!

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Monty! Thanks for watching! First make sure map saving it turned on and leave it on. Do not toggle it on and off. This will allow you to divide rooms. There is no way to manually save a map that I am aware of, so I would need more info on what exactly you are doing. You must let the robot finish the mapping process. If it needs to go out 3 times to map your entire home due to battery drain then let it complete and go back to the dock. After it is finished it will save the map which will be available to see under "Manage Maps". It knows when it has no more areas to explore and will stop trying to explore and save the map. It you interrupt the mapping process or pick it up it will fail to save the map correctly. It saves the map once it goes back to the dock the final time. Make sure you do not have any mirrors at floor level as those can cause issues with lidar. Hopefully this helps!

It kept coming back to that and kept ramming it turning only slightly each time. Anyway, anxious to get it to move on, I moved it to another room and it could not reposition itself. Second time it got lost all by its lonesome. I heard it stop - went in the area where it was stopped in an open area and heard it announce it was repositioning and it started over. Third time it completed and entire run but did not save the map and when I pushed the plus sign (there was no indication of having saved any maps) a small window popped up basically indicating manually saved maps were not reliable and asking if I wanted to abort the current endeavor (I cancelled rather than confirmed).

    Jamie, I have been enjoying the S7 but have uncovered two issues; 1. It is scrapping the paint off the baseboard and am unsure how to get it to stop it. What's to do? 2. The mop seems to leave tracks on my porcelain floor that is made to look like wood. It makes like streak lines where you can see it has gone back and forth like two to three inch wide faint black lines where it appears it is smearing the dirt around. I have washed the mop cloth but is quickly starts doing the marks before it has even finished the room. Any thoughts. Is there a way to get it do do the room in a different cross pattern than it always defaults to so that it might tackle the floor in a different way to ward off making those streaks. Lastly, is there a brush that can fit on these to scrub a bit better as an alternate with the mop cloth?

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure why it would be scraping the paint off the baseboards. I have never had a robot vacuum do this in my home. Does it do it while impacting the wall head on or when it is riding beside the wall? I would add some cleaning solution to help cut down on streaks. Roborock makes their own solution that I use and it is concentrated. Does not take much. amzn.to/3RnQpRj Select 2x cleanings and it will mop the second time in a different direction. I am only aware of aftermarket mopping pads, but have not tried them. It takes a special pad to work with the S7 since it has the vibrating mopping system. These robots are more for maintenance in-between cleaning and not daily mopping. I use the Roborock Dyad a few times a month and then use my robots to clean in-between. Look at my video review on the Dyad. th-cam.com/video/xyw7U31NC9M/w-d-xo.html
