I eat watermelon every day for breakfast. I lost 70 lbs in one year. A very light lunch, good supper. I stopped eating at all fast food restaurants. No french fries, no pizza, no processed anything. THIS IS A VERY GOOD VIDEO. I am 70 years old, had a heart transplant a year ago. God Bless you all.

Your video has made a world of difference to me in the new way of life. It's only been 5 days since I was informed by dietician that I become type 2. I'm 66 and I am learning very quickly that there are a lot of a choices in building that plate. I have never been food fan, balance diet variety, so my kitchen has become quite a playground. I made a video called type 2 diabetes. My doctor doesn't want me to use that particular term. She says it's prediabetes. Which is the prevention stage. So I am going need all the help I can get.

There are two ways to treat diabetes. One is your method of trying to stablilize blood sugar so you can depend on a regular dose of insulin. Then there's the better technique of lowering the blood sugar level so you can reduce or eliminate the need for insulin. I've eaten a low carb diet for 30 years now and my typical day is a cup of black coffee, one or two eggs and some form of pork like bacon, ham, sausage, once in a while a slice of zero carb bread. That should be zero carbs. Sometimes I make some low carb pancakes that are around one carb per cake so two or three carbs total. Lunch is fish or poultry, perhaps a boiled egg, mixed fresh greens, pickled vegetables, cheese. Two or less carbs. Dinner, a meat or seafood and two half cup servings of fresh low carb vegetables. Eight to 10 carbs. So my normal day is around 12 carbs total. I did have to increase my salt intake because my sodium got a bit low. Snacks are usually nuts or seeds, perhaps some homemade jerky that's zero carbs. Sometimes I allow myself half an avocado. Now what I don't eat is fruit, grains(including whole grains), potatoes, corn, rice, beans. Your liver is capable of manufacturing the small amount of glucose your brain needs from proteins and fats. No carbs needed especially for energy. Burning fats supplies a more steady energy without all the highs and lows. Many days I'm simply not hungry by lunch because the high protein and fat breakfast supplies that energy along with any body fat I'm burning. I always feel sorry for people who's doctor puts them on a diet that stabilizes blood sugar but does nothing to lower it.

Thank you so much:) The formula is so good because it lets us eat like "normal" people with a few minor adjustments. For example, over the weekend, I made french toast (with whole wheat bread) for my family. I modified mine by only having 1 piece and my putting peanut butter on it instead of syrup like the rest of the family. I just got diagnosed with almost diabetes A1C 6.3. A year ago I was 5.7 and really tried to crack down and eat even healthier and now I'm even higher so hoping this formula will help. I'm a normal weigh person who exercises but still having these problems. UGH! Anyway, thanks for giving us a formula like this. I really appreciate having some good direction.

Thank you! It's my third day after diagnosis. I feel a little overwhelmed by all the (often conflicting) advice out there. I've decided that the best sources of information as well as pointers to books, articles etc would be other people with the condition who have a lot more experience than I do.
Your tip on balancing a complex carb serving with either fat or protein is a case in point. The why is explained followed by practical example.
It's obvious that you have put a lot of thought into writing for this video, as well as time spent editing it so well.
You've earned yourself a happy subscriber!

My experience: the best breakfast-no breakfast. First meal- 4-5 pm. Before that only bulletproof coffee and water. Food: mostly cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes + some appleas, pears, strawberries, other vegetables, sour cream, salted pork belly fat, eggs, shrimp. Works for me so far. No intensive exercise. Only walking. If lazy bastard like me could do it, anybody can.

My usual go to breakfast is 2 boiled eggs and a small bowl of berries with unsweetened organic thick probiotic yoghurt on top. Doesn’t spike my blood sugars and keeps me going until lunch. If you test regularly you soon find what works for you personally. I’ve lowered my a1c after losing weight and concentrating on mostly cutting out bread, pasta, cake etc and not adding additional fat/ oil to my diet unless it’s already in my food. You can make baked goods with almond flour and use dates and other fruit as sweeteners and eat it with yoghurt. The main thing is to aim for blood sugars no higher than 140 and in the 120 range if possible within 2 hours after eating - and not feel ill! How you do that is slightly different for everyone, but the basic advice of “ clothing your carbs” is a good one. If you have advanced diabetes, then you may need a slightly less ambitious target, but weight loss, in particular losing belly fat, has really helped me.

This is what I eat Liquid Egg Whites mixed with mushrooms, onions, sweet chilies, cheese, spinach and tomatoes. Later I may snack on pistachios or cashews. Lunch I may eat avocados and tomatoes or a salad with chicken for protein. Dinner salmon. Every meal cooked with no sodium spices. I may salt lightly or not at all. No starch, no sugar, no fruit. Drink water and tea with no sugar. You can squeeze lemon juice in your water as well as those Mio drops. They taste like kool aid if you use a lot. I don't recommend this. Just a few drops should be fine in some sparkling water. Oh yeah work out 30 mins a day. I walk and do calisthenics. Good luck

It’s important to calculate glycemic load, most people think one slice of wholemeal toast is a portion. The bread is say 60% carb a 50 gram half slice is 30 grams of carbs, twice the amount for a portion. Choose a lower carb choice as one quarter of a slice of bread is not going to keep you full for long!

Weigh the slice of bread, say it's 60% carbohydrate, times weight of bread by 60% and this will tell you how many carbs you are eating, 30 grams of carbs is probably enough carbs for breakfast for most people, depending on you activity level

It breaks my heart that docs dont teach low carb. I did and fixed prediabetes. Breakfast is not really neccesary either. Carbs raise sugar, making you hungry and requires medication. Low carb keeps blood sugar steady. Check sugars at 1. 1.5 and 2 hr marks to see how you react to different foods. Eat animal fats like butter and use cream in your coffee. High sugars cause damage, fatty meats do not. I have zero plaque at 63 and my fasting glucose is in the 110 range and going down steadily. After a filling meal of meat and butter, my sugar barely budges. Drs Chaffee, Berry, Baker and Beat Diabetes have helped heal thousands of diabetics. Even my ENT doc does keto!

I am also under weight. With low carb it is a struggle, but I eat 3 full meals and some Almond milk without sugar and some seeds at 8 or 9 with coconut oil (Teasp). No extra fasting. My A1C is now after 6 months from diabetic to prediabetic. Before low carb I had up to 9.5 with high carb meals. You can reverse your diabetes with diet, if you make it a lifestyle.

I do eat fairly healthily but I just get it over and done with as quickly as possible. All information videos only ever talk about food in science terms, but the real issue, particularly if you were a foodie is coming to terms with the loss of something that once used to give you a lot of pleasure

    • @HealthyMomHappyFamily

Oatmeal can be a great choice just make sure to choose options without added sugar and stick with 1/2 cup. As a slow digested carb, it wont spike blood sugar in that serving, but I recommend paring carbs with protein and/or fat like added almonds on top to help stabilize blood sugar further :)

Is it ok not to eat breakfast? I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in December 2021. I rarely eat breakfast. I'm in high-school. I'm not usually hungry in the mornings. It makes me feel sick if I eat in the morning. I just have lunch, dinner, and a snack or two during the day. Is this bad?

Everyone is different, but in general adding breakfast can help balance BS levels, energy, and even help with learning in the morning. It doesnt have to be big, like a handful of almonds. Id try a few times and see if your BS is better on the breakfast days vs non days. But remember, this is general advice and we are all different. I would make sure you get advice from your personal registered dietitian too :)

We're in the 21st century, clinging to early 20th century concepts like "Breakfast is the most important meal', "3 square meals", and RDA's which have been chronically misinterpreted to be needed DAILY, rather than an average daily need. As long as healthcare professionals fail to address the poor dietary habits that these concepts have promulgated, this epidemic of T2D will continue.
Type 2 Diabetes is the results from the storage of too much energy. If you're driving a car with a gasoline engine to work every day and a tank of gas lasts a week, you don't fill up every day. If you're walking around with enough stored energy to last MONTHS, is it really important to top it off 3 times a day?

This video says it will say the best breakfast for diabetes. But after the 2 minute mark you still have not even told us of One? You keep explaining what happens and stuff but you haven't even told us of one Good Breakfast yet? 😒 😡. This doesn't say here is an Explanation of what you should eat. It says what is a good Breakfast for Diabetics. Be more informative about what you are doing. Don't hide the fact that there is a LONG EXPLANATION before you even get into any food to eat. So that's not why I started to watch this video. YOU NEED TO PUT A LIST OF FOODS THAT ARE GOOD FOR DIABETES, ISNT THAT WHAT IT SAYS YOU ARE DOING? BAIT AND SWITCH, LIARS.

I've been told by many Different Doctors Different ways to even take metformin once at meal time once I was told to take it after I started eating and the medication I'm on now am suppose to take 30 min before I Eat. So I get many Different ways and suggestions from DOCTORS WITH A PHD IN THAT SUBJECT. ARE YOU A DOCTOR TOO? EDUCATIONAL STUFF CHANGES MANY TIMES. ALL I WANT IS AN ACTUAL LIST OF FOODS THAT IS GOOD FOR DIABETES. OH YES WAS THAT THE TITTLE OF YOUR STORY. FOOD TO FOR BREAKFAST? NOW YOU SAY I CAN WASTE MORE TIME SEARCHING THRU A VIDEO THAT IS NOT ABOUT THE ONE THING ITS TITTLE SAYS. OH I CAN FF THRU? No if you want me to watch any of any Video IT MUST COVER EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS. NOT 50 MILLION OTHER THINGS AND A FEW IDEAS OF FOOD? ITS LIKE THE VIDEOS THAT SAY YOU CAN DO THIS AT NIGHT TO REVERSE DIABETES, SO HERE WATCH THIS 30 MINUTE VIDEO. AT THE END HER WATCH THIS ONE ON THIS SITE. THEN MAYBE AN HOUR OR SO AFTER YOU START WATCHING THEY GET TO WHAT THE TITTLE OF THE VIDEO ACTUALLY IS. STOP WASTING MY TIME. WHEN YOU PUT A TITTLE ON A VIDEO TELL EXACTLY WHAT THE TITTLE IS ABOUT. So far this SUCKS. Called bait and switch. Many TH-cam videos do that and I'm fed up with that crap. Make a video only about things we can eat without high sugar spikes. That is all I wanted to see because that is how YOU WROTE THE TITTLE.

I live in fear. I feel like I have some symptoms of diabetes and need to go to the doctor. I am beyond scared, pathologically fearful of the results. I cannot cook and do not have full access to a kitchen lest I break something or leave something dirty by mistake. I live on the hot food at my local grocery store, none of which is healthy to eat. When the hammer falls on my life, when I get my diagnosis, I will be stuck eating raw vegetables only, and nothing else, for all meals. I will probably just eat mixed greens chopped up finely and swallowed with water. I will not get to eat with my friend anymore, only cooking for him as he is blind. I am so scared. I fear that there is no way to escape this doom. I shake with sadness. I am going to set up an appointment to set up blood work for myself this coming Monday. The day before the appointment I will have a final meal with my friend. I will post here again with any results and my descent into hell will be documented.

I am very sorry to hear about the fear you are experiencing. A diabetes diagnosis does not mean giving up all the food you love or only eating vegetables. Please reach out to a qualified therapist in your area to help you with the feelings of fear & consult a registered dietitian specialized in diabetes. They can show you how to eat what you love while lowering blood sugar levels. It is very possible to do & I know you can do it too
