@@Blueisland-e9m I just never really noticed that the games were only for the nostalgic crowd. For instance, Chibi-Robo games, Hey! Funnily enough, if Pikmin 4 had a Mario Maker-esque level editor that let you play custom cave maps online, I would never play other players' maps. The risk of falling Spotty Bulbears is too high.

@@Shnarfbird because that doesn't really change anything unless the stun time is really tight like fire was in Pikmin 1. I actually have a cool idea for how they could implement caves. My idea is that the main games has no caves and is more like 1 and 3 but after you beat it you unlock a second campaign with slightly altered version of the existing levels but this time there aren’t many service treasures and they add in caves. That way they don’t have to make new levels but the caves aren’t just on a select screen where you can choose random caves. This also means that you can have shorter above ground areas and you have a Pikmin count that carries across everything. Another idea I have is that after you beat the final boss you can go back to the main areas on that save and there will be caves. It would act like a post game quest.

Pros and cons for each Pikmin game: Pikmin- Pros: Fairly strict time limit, freedom, high replay ability Cons: Very short, Wollywogs, countless glitches Pikmin 2- Pros: Longest Pikmin game, most difficult Pikmin game, Piklopedia, caves (possible con), enemy variety Cons: No time limit, broken Purple Pikmin Pikmin 3- Pros: Best graphics, best story, Pikmin balance, Plasm Wraith, unexpected events, mission mode, "go here" Cons: fairly short, too easy, purple and white Pikmin are not in the story, linear, no swarm ability Hey! Pikmin!- Pros: Decent platformer Cons: Everything else
I could not agree with this list more. It's great! I would be one of the people that puts the caves in the con portion of Pikmin 2, but I like how you have it as an option. I feel like everyone could agree on this list, it's just a matter of how much each of these factors mean to them. Also, pikmin 1 cons: wollywogs. I felt that 😂
@@Gamxin The Plasm Wraith is a pro because of how it ties in to Pikmin 3's story, as well as Pikmin lore as a whole. It also led to the theories about the Plasm Wraith, Water Wraith, and Goolix being the same entity.
I really don't know how I feel about 3 leaving Purples and Whites out of the story. Managing a whopping seven types sounds like it could have been a pain, but also interesting x) I do wonder how they'll handle new races in a future game
I want enemies like the water wraith. That feeling of total fear and helplessness as it chases you relentlessly was awesome. As for Pikmin types and hazards, these are my ideas (just 2, as each pikmin game introduced 2 types each game): -Green Pikmin: Resistant to Acid. It looks like the blue pikmin, but small like the white pikmin, with a small mouth and yellow eyes. All other pikmin die in acid instantly. The captains need an upgrade to survive in acid. -Orange pikmin: Parasitic pikmin. This pikmin takes over small creatures like bulborbs. This would bring back the bulbmin and introduce new types of monster pikmin that could do various things. (in Pikmin 2, when the bulbmins were buried, the stem was orange)
No, no, no. Fans have to start making a fan version of Pikmin 4 now so that Nintendo will send cease and desist letters which will maximize demand for the real Pikmin 4 that's standing by. Like Samus Returns and Mother 3 Remake.
wrt speed running: i think they actually nailed part of this in the first game by including a timing-based optional boss fight with the smoky progg. having certain windows in which desirable or challenging enemies (perhaps someday an area or puzzle?) are accessible rewards speedrunners without punishing other players, esp. if that reward is pikmin and not story progress. more pikmin can aid speedruns tremendously, but can be gained through other, slower means without quality of play differences
I have a killer idea. (Arlo if you see this I have no prob if you talk about it ;) ). MAGNET PIKMIN. They can pull out metal doors or stuff like that to access new areas. Carry metal objects with less, similar to how purple pikmin can carry 10x. In combat you can throw a group of 3 or 5 of them that act as one projectile b/c they are all connected through the magnets. When they hit an enemy it does 1/2 damage per pikmin (but if there 5 thats still 2.5 times damage of normal enemies) and disperse on contact once returning to individuals. If you agree like so Arlo will notice this.
No level editor No splitscreen co-op No difficulty options No pikmin park No difficulty spike No 'challenge mode' variety No instakill on electricity Swarm returns at the END of POSTGAME, too late to make real use of.
I think just about every game can benefit from the Supergiant Games approach to difficulty: The base difficulty is manageable, but not too easy. Then there's an in-universe thing that lets you pick specific ways to make the game harder for yourself (enemies hit harder, there are more of them, you move slowly, etc.), in exchange for greater rewards. But it also lets you turn them off if you feel you've bitten off more than you can chew. I GREATLY prefer this over basic difficulty modes, and Pikmin could totally do something like this.
Lol why wollywog for pikmin? More like the burrowing shrubs. Once they grabbed a pikmin, they couldn't be killed unless they had a pikmin thrown on top.
Pikmin Maker would be sick. We have Mario Maker, a dungeon editor in LoZ Link's Awakening remake, and we even had a level editor back on Mario vs DK Miniland Mayhem, so there's some hope we will see more level editor content from Nintendo.
I know we get a true Zelda maker tho. The one in Link's Awakening sucks. You have to manually unlock most of the other pieces yourself before you can do much with it.
Hey Arlo, have you ever played Overlord? It's a pikmin-like where you're an evil overlord and you command your army of minions to take over the world by either enslaving everyone and everything you meet or by being pure evil and just straight up killing them all. I played it as a kid before I even knew what pikmin was and I loved it. It has a sequel too, personally I think the first one is better but that may just be nostalgia speaking and both games are great. If you need your pikmin itch scratched I don't see how you wouldn't enjoy them. Also, love you man. I want pikmin 4 to be announced just so that I can see your reaction.
my idea of Pikmin 4: Two stories centering on two separate teams Olimar, Louie, the President and a newcomer, perhaps Olimar's son taking up the mantle? Koppaites, but with a similar newcomer (perhaps 'D' as seen in concept art?) have them intertwine at points, almost like it was in Pikmin 3, but with you actually getting to play as Olimar and Louie, or even something kind of akin to SA2, where you play either side of conflicts between the two (having Pikmin fights as a boss battle would be veeery interesting) 4 player co-op as standard for either story, but still fully playable in single player or any number between the two center the hocotate story on collecting pokos as always, with treasure as the main focus center the koppaites' story on collecting fruit, perhaps maybe even some kind of master seeds that are ultra fertile where the seeds they originally brought back failed to cultivate this would give reason to bring back caves, with the hocotatians looking for bigger treasures and the koppaites needing to travel deep beneath the planet's crust to retrieve these master seeds but these collectibles should be relevant to BOTH parties - give the hocotatians the need to collect fru- er... veggies I guess, to maintain their day-to-day wellbeing, just like the koppaites in pikmin 3, and give both the ability to use the pokos they collect for some sort of purpose (perhaps hocotate freight has advanced to the point that they run a galaxy-sprawling delivery service that can supply the player with upgrades, a la chibi pc in chibi-robo? but maintain separate upgrades acquired through treasures found, and make those same treasures recoverable by the koppaites - this would add an extra layer to the hocotatian gameplay, where you balance upgrading your captains and achieving whatever poko goal is set for you) but - and maybe this is controversial - add sparklium to the mix. nowhere near the main collectible, but as a necessary resource needed to power the ship, needing some basic low amount (10 seeds or something) to reach orbit at night, and maybe 25 to move to a new area (still needing to unlock them through story progression in the traditional fashion) and - and here's the kicker - make night fully playable and the punishment in the case you can't harvest sparklium in time (maybe even have sparklium only "bloom" in the daytime) and make night time CRAWL with enemies, much like we see in the end of day cutscene at takeoff, but EVERYWHERE. but give it value of its own - a lot of enemies means a huge opportunity to lose pikmin, but also a huge opportunity to harvest pikmin. and maybe there's a certain kind of enemy that only comes out at night: breadbugs. night could reveal hidden nooks and passageways that act as the creatures' nests, where they have hoarded fruits, treasures, even sparklium to be collected en masse for huge hauls, but always blocked by the biggest of challenges, from hordes of bulborbs, snagrets, armored cannon beetles, the worst the series has thrown at us, maybe even bosses - and if you harvest the sparklium you need (or you had it and decided to stay behind for the bonus loot) you can lift off any time you like I think I'd even make the onion(s? probably never return to multiple after pikmin 3, not sure how I feel but whatever) damageable at night, dropping stored pikmin (in whatever amount you need to match the pikmin cap and then one to one as pikmin die) and needing a certain amount of time to be restored before it can be used again, either to hold pikmin or produce pikmin, thus adding extra risk to night time and to add to that, I think I'd add structures that can be built up - like instead of tearing down dirt or glass walls just to lose the pieces to the wind, they can be carried back to your base and used to fortify defenses for the night - maybe enemies like bulbears and other aggressive predators try to invade your base and can be stopped, or at least stalled, with these barriers and I'd even argue it'd be interesting to revisit ship parts as a concept - maybe not quite so dire as "you're going to die if you don't get these" (though that might be fun) but at least make them upgrades of sorts: better juice production, better sparklium consumption, make the map unlockable, and then radar functionality unlockable, perhaps hide the hocotate store behind a communcation satellite ship part, a medical bay for wounded captains to heal a la Pikmin the first - I'm sure others more creative than I could imagine further possibilities this way each day (which I'd suggest lengthening due to all of this added nonsense) is packed full of things that would warrant the increase of player count (and an AI system to direct non-player captains) - harvest pikmin - build bridges and clear out obstacles - collect fruit - collect treasure - collect sparklium (in a similar manner to ultra spicy and bitter berries, where the trees grow 5 seeds per harvest and produce seeds 6 times a day cycle) - collect ultra berries - harvest nectar - search for ship parts and ultimately prepare for the caves, for those all-important mega treasures and master seeds that the game basically centers around I love the 4 area standard, but I think I'd double it, make it 8, with 3-4 caves a pop, and make the mega treasures so valuable you'll need to do about 16 caves to meet that goal, and likewise set the koppaites' master seed goal at around 16 and bring back every kind of pikmin gosh dang it! If you need to make certain combat encounters ridiculous in order to justify the extreme strength of purple pikmin, do it! or slow them down even further, make their leaf speed in p2 their flower speed in p4, so it's a huge risk to bring them around another kind of pikmin would be cool, also, like the orange pikmin from 251, immune to explosions (and also limited to candypops in caves like purple and white) though I'd go all out and give them a full on beetle shell, or cyan pikmin with really thick fur that makes them immune to ice in some form I think all of this tossed together like a fan dream salad (ew) would be the ultimate pikmin title
Pikmin 3 deluxe sort of did the 2 stories thing with the side mode. But for pikmin 4 have the main game be olimar, louie, and the president. Then you would unlock the 2nd story that focuses on alph,Brittany and Charlie.
I would like more interesting level themes/designs. Dont get me wrong I like the summer, winter, autum, and spring themes in the normal levels. It further reinforces the idea of nature even more than the games all ready do. But what about cooler/ weirder ones to mix things up. How about a level in a toxic junkyard where u need to use purple, rock and white pikmin to break glass obstacles, move metal objects, and traverse hazardous waste. A ruined house level where you need to use the mobility of winged pikmin to traverse the cliff-like counter tops of a run-down kitchen. Or even a level where, depending on the constantly shifting weather, it changes between a flooded forest or a dire desert. The ideas are limitless.
It will be cool to compare this to Pikmin 4 when it comes out. Recently it had it’s first announcement in the September 2022 Nintendo Direct. Not much info was given on the game yet though.
Arlo: Makes a whole video about features he wants in Pikmin some day Nintendo: Releases Pikmin 3 remake with most of the features Arlo wanted Arlo: "I mean, but I worked so hard on the video though..."
Stikmin - can be built into portable bridges, ladders, vaulting poles and such Fuzzy Pikmin - release spores that befriends creatures for puzzle solving Rotten Pikmin - Can use acid to wear away metal obstacles Root Pikmin - Dig faster than other Pikmin, they look like carrots
I tried out pikmin for the first time ever by trying out that Pikmin 3 demo and I absolutely loved it. I'm definitely going to play throw all 3 games now.
I wish we could explore the planet at night. Like maybe just as a special event or something. Because Pikmin always hinted at how dangerous it is to be out at night and it would be really cool to have to face that danger.
That could be the challenge mode or something. Or maybe a survival thing? The ship has an issue and you need a captain to repair it while the rest protect it?
I remember a friend of mine mentioning an idea about trying to survive on the surface past nighttime... iirc, it was something like a defending your settlement type thing? I forget. Also, was the Hocotate ship The Nintendo Tutorial Character™? Yes... but something about the way it's dialogue was written (not to mention the degree of sass it gave Olimar) reminded me of classic sci-fi parody-commentary on corporatism... (except, of course, not quite as lofty... but still!)
WHAT?!!! Yoshiller's not only editing for the Completionist; but He's ALSO Editing for Arlo too?!!! HE'LL NEVER GET TO START KANTO ALONE AT THIS RATE!!
Ideas for Arlo's pitch video: (adding more while going through the video) Caves are explored at night. Randomly generated events, sometimes needed certain Pikmin types ect, similar to the wolfpup thing. Some sort of secondary collectable, like Koroks in BOTW, maybe these can be used to upgrade your Captain's abilities. If Pikmin 4 adds another Captain bringing the total to 4 then they would need to you can set certain tasks for them instead of just 'Go Here' so something like 'Break Down this Wall' 'Get this Collectable' stuff like that. Multiplayer in the campaign (obviously), Piklopidia (with being able to throw Pik Pik Carrots at Creatures like in 2). Level Editor: Imagine a Smash Ultimate style editor but from a Top-Down perspective. You can make Caves on a grid or just drawing them out! Select a terrain type, add enemies, win conditions, how long you have to complete it or turn the clock off entirely! There's loads of stuff you can do with it.
Here's an idea for a potential way to take Pikmin 4: it could be a situation where the captains come back to the planet to begin a colony. Use the pikmin to gather resources and start building the beginning of a Hocatate colony on the planet and work around that concept
What I love about the caves is the fact that the boss battles are in them. In Pikmin 3, you're right in the middle of a climactic final battle, and then all of the sudden we cut to our heroes going back to the ship, drinking juice and planning for the next day to continue the final battle. It is really annoying! So basically, I want each section to have one cave area (doesn't actually have to be a cave, just a maze where time stops), and each of these have the boss of that area.
I love the building a base idea. Like maybe they need a base for a steady food supplier or something. And getting collectables to further decorate and upgrade that base would be amazing
My big hope is that all 7 Pikmin will be used in some way. If we get the caves back, then that will make the divide between using Purple and White and Pink and Rock easier. I also want one more pikmin type. I don't want another two, because 9 is too much. But a solid 8 is pretty good. The pikmin could be Cyan or Green.
So, I've done programming in the past, and one thing I learned is that no implementation is as simple as it appears when you first look at it. When you said extremely simple to implement, my heart dropped. No, Arlo, a level editor with online content is not a simple thing to implement. Even pushing aside the nearly universal and completely infantile fascination with phalli, it's not hard to draw conclusions from Mario Maker that such a thing would be a nightmare to administrate, not to mention Nintendo's unfortunate tendency to view bugs and glitches as shameful and dishonorable. I can get behind a lot of things in this video, but that is one that I cannot support. A level editor is a humongous undertaking, and should never be taken lightly.
My hopes for Pikmin 4: -A cave-gauntlet in the post game with a high number of floors that get increasingly difficult. Sort of like the Pit of 100 Trials. -A more fleshed-out Piklopedia with its own new music arrangement. -Having the onions for the previous Pikmin types newly appear in levels after you beat the main story mode. -More cutscenes with Louie and the President. Those guys rule.
tbh my main hope is that they have all Pikmin types be usable, (and not cut from the story mode like Purple and White were in 3), while also introducing two more types. For the two types, I wouldn't really know what they'd do, but I'd definitely want them to be Orange and Green, just because they're the only colors of the rainbow to not a Pikmin type yet. Is that a dumb reason? Probably. Is it unrealistic? Yes. Do I care? No, not really. :P
My wishes for Pikmin 4 storywise: Hocotate is leading a interplanetary colonization program, directed by no other than Olimar's boss, the President. He suggests sending Olimar (and his family) to planet PNF404, despite having poisonus oxigen the resources of the planet are valuable enough to be worth it. Once you arrive in planet PNF404 your family will start giving you quests, and they may even join you in them. As you progress your base improves and expands, and that may attract other hocotatian colonizers to join your colony! Maybe even kopaite ones too! Quests may include repair a power station using your yellow pikmin, get rid of some pesky creatures who keep eating the crops, or get certain resource from a near cave. The end goal of the game is to build a succesful colony.
What about a VS Mode? like two players pick their swarms and go to war with each other, or maybe set it up like a survival mode where the other player sends waves of monsters at you and you have to keep your Pikmin alive? I think that could be a fun idea.
Imagine a Pikmin escort mission. Like, what if they commercialized traveling to this planet, and you had to find and rescue a passenger then escort them back to the ship. Idk. I think it would be cool. Great video and great ideas.
I really like this concept, could work a bit Similar on how the formidable oak worked and could introduce some slight horror/survival elements to the series.
Wait how are there no crazy twists or turns along the way in Pikmin 3's story? What about when Louie steals your fruit? What about when Olimar isn't really Olimar at all? Just because you've played the game and know what the twists are doesn't mean there aren't twists lol But I still love you and you're my favorite TH-camr, I'm not trying to leave a mean comment :)
Honestly, the only thing I can say on this video is I think a good way to un-nerf Electric hazards is to put them in line with the other hazards. It feels too imbalanced in both games, where it instantly kills any and all non-Yellows, meaning Yellows are that much more valuable and necessary with the hazards in 2, but in 3, it only stuns Pikmin and you're rarely put in a position where that stun will get large swaths of Pikmin killed. So why not have the Pikmin get zapped, they'll run around sparking for a time, and then die, like how... Well, literally every other elemental hazard works? Poison, fire, and water can be saved from, so electricity should be able to kill, but not without being able to be saved from. A nice middle ground, as it were. Also, while not Pikmin, if we're talking series that take too long between installments... If Nintendo could not put Donkey Kong Country on the back burner so often, that'd be sweet. Tropical Freeze released 6 years ago, and the gap between Country 3 and Returns was FOURTEEN YEARS! It just sucks a series I fell in love with so heavily is one Nintendo neglects. Sure, the Tropical Freeze port on Switch will never not be the most amazing thing ever, but I want a new one. But back on topic... I just want more Pikmin. I would like a new Pikmin game, yes, please, Mr. Nintendo. Thank you.
To me, Pikmin 2 is still considered to be my all-time favorite Pikmin game. Mostly because there is no limited days or limited supplies like how the first and third games are. It's pretty flexible and had a lot of interesting things to do as well as the upgrades and bosses.
I want next game make it where you can fly away and night, you need to survive the night too. Maybe make it more of a openworld. Maybe you play as one character at night and another during the day. Maybe olimar wants to study the nocturnal creturues or somthing and we get to use mushroom men, pikmin infected with a symbiotic fungi
9:20 Making a game for speedrunners is not making it easier, instead is making it as deterministic(not random) as possible. Things like complex AIs or enemies popping out randomly are frustrating for speedrunners. Another thing that speedrunners generally want is to not have sections of the games where they have to wait for a certain thing to happen. For example, waiting for a boss to perform a move that is necessary to counter in order to beat it. I find reasonable for games to have their own speedrunner mode, just skipping that kind of sections.
Pikmin: Civilization Olimar helps the pikmin colonize their planet by leading the pikmin to defeat their predators and building infrastructure which protects them at night and during the day. The time mechanic still exists, but you are no longer required to hide at night. Optionally, you can continue to play at night, but the enemies are ferocious and the difficulty is incredibly high. This difficulty can be gradually lowered throughout the game as infrastructure is put in place to aid the pikmin. The end goal of the game is for the pikmin to be able to live independently on the surface of the planet at both day and night. There will be some kind of task list which enables that this goal has been met.
Or maybe for electricity there should be a 50/50 chance if the shock kills the Pikmin, so some will get simply stunned and others will be straight up electrocuted to death. Seems like a fair balance. Maybe other obstacles should be harder too, like fire should kill quicker, since let's be real whistling at something to put out a fire is really silly.
"a level editor would be very easy to implement" Arlo, you have no freaking idea what you're talking about xD Great video! I love the base building idea. Maybe a whole bunch of koppaites want to move on PNF, and you have to help them build their settlement.
@@Ramsey276one procedural levels would be way easier to implement than a level editor, yes. Still a huge production timesink. The more you'd want said levels to feel organic the more production time it'd take away from producing the handmade levels.

I admit Arlo's fears are not 100% in line with this quote but the idea that he is scared that Nintendo will make a Pikmin game that has a very annoying feature that ruins the experience, like star fox zero, made me think of it.
@@Blueisland-e9m
I just never really noticed that the games were only for the nostalgic crowd. For instance, Chibi-Robo games, Hey! Pikmin, any & all ports / remasters (more satisfying to someone who hasn't experienced the game before), Paper Mario, any new series made (ARMS, Splatoon, Daemon X Machina, all that jazz), etc.
Eh, Nintendo pleases fans' nostalgia about 75% of the time.
I want to see an update where Arlo goes through these hopes and talks about what did and did not actually happen.
Funnily enough, if Pikmin 4 had a Mario Maker-esque level editor that let you play custom cave maps online, I would never play other players' maps. The risk of falling Spotty Bulbears is too high.
There would be so many troll levels
Spotty Bulbears whenever you are carrying a treasure is pure evil.
The closes thing we have right now is Pikmin 2's Cave Creator, if that'll satisfy your needs.
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox ermm.. Fans CAN make good levels. Gimmicks aren't bad inherently. You also could choose to simply not play the fan levels, so it's all a win for everyone.

@@Shnarfbird because that doesn't really change anything unless the stun time is really tight like fire was in Pikmin 1. Makes it no more interesting than the other elemental effect which are already pretty forgiving.
I would personally love a ton of detailed difficulty options to make the game as harsh as possible for those that want it (less time to save pikmin, higher kill limits on enemy attacks, being able to double the health on enemies, etc). I honestly don't expect that Ultra Spicy mode in 3 Deluxe is going to deliver the type of challenge that fans are asking for.

We found some caves, but...
Maybe the map system is bugged, because we went again and...
If you dare to, you are welcome to search them yourself
This is a very good idea

Having those old classics Jazzed up a little and released on Modern Consoles can be really nice too~
It brings those older games to a much wider Audience of people in the modern day who might not know much about Emulation, or are too Young to have an interest in going back to play older games through emulation.
I'm just a person who really enjoys being able to play those older Games all in one place on the More Recent and Convenient Consoles.

Pros and cons for each Pikmin game:
Pikmin-
Pros: Fairly strict time limit, freedom, high replay ability
Cons: Very short, Wollywogs, countless glitches
Pikmin 2-
Pros: Longest Pikmin game, most difficult Pikmin game, Piklopedia, caves (possible con), enemy variety
Cons: No time limit, broken Purple Pikmin
Pikmin 3-
Pros: Best graphics, best story, Pikmin balance, Plasm Wraith, unexpected events, mission mode, "go here"
Cons: fairly short, too easy, purple and white Pikmin are not in the story, linear, no swarm ability
Hey! Pikmin!-
Pros: Decent platformer
Cons: Everything else
I could not agree with this list more. It's great! I would be one of the people that puts the caves in the con portion of Pikmin 2, but I like how you have it as an option. I feel like everyone could agree on this list, it's just a matter of how much each of these factors mean to them. Also, pikmin 1 cons: wollywogs. I felt that 😂
@@lukers9819 Thank you
@@Gamxin The Plasm Wraith is a pro because of how it ties in to Pikmin 3's story, as well as Pikmin lore as a whole. It also led to the theories about the Plasm Wraith, Water Wraith, and Goolix being the same entity.
I really don't know how I feel about 3 leaving Purples and Whites out of the story. Managing a whopping seven types sounds like it could have been a pain, but also interesting x)
I do wonder how they'll handle new races in a future game
I love it. Pikmin fans are just so altruistic
I want enemies like the water wraith. That feeling of total fear and helplessness as it chases you relentlessly was awesome.
As for Pikmin types and hazards, these are my ideas (just 2, as each pikmin game introduced 2 types each game):
-Green Pikmin: Resistant to Acid.
Pikmin 4 will come when the trade mark gets discontinued and some fans are able to make a bad Pikmin 4 legally.
No, no, no. Fans have to start making a fan version of Pikmin 4 now so that Nintendo will send cease and desist letters which will maximize demand for the real Pikmin 4 that's standing by. Like Samus Returns and Mother 3 Remake.

Alro talking about Pikmin 4. Me: Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
*softly* dont
wrt speed running: i think they actually nailed part of this in the first game by including a timing-based optional boss fight with the smoky progg. having certain windows in which desirable or challenging enemies (perhaps someday an area or puzzle?) are accessible rewards speedrunners without punishing other players, esp. if that reward is pikmin and not story progress. more pikmin can aid speedruns tremendously, but can be gained through other, slower means without quality of play differences
Finished pikmin 4 and it looks like arlo was the one developed it! every idea he saw here is implemented in the game
No level editor
No splitscreen co-op
No difficulty options
No pikmin park
No difficulty spike
No 'challenge mode' variety

Swarm returns at the END of POSTGAME, too late to make real use of.
@@MiDuWayyeah, they’re not ALL there. But damn, lots of ideas are.
I think just about every game can benefit from the Supergiant Games approach to difficulty:
The base difficulty is manageable, but not too easy.
Huh. Yeah, Pikmin could actually work pretty well with difficulty modifiers like Hades has.
Pact of Pikmin!
reminds me of pokemon nuzloke settings
Lol why wollywog for pikmin? More like the burrowing shrubs. Once they grabbed a pikmin, they couldn't be killed unless they had a pikmin thrown on top.
Reminds me of the KIU difficulty settings.

Pikmin Maker would be sick. We have Mario Maker, a dungeon editor in LoZ Link's Awakening remake, and we even had a level editor back on Mario vs DK Miniland Mayhem, so there's some hope we will see more level editor content from Nintendo.
Hocotatian: We raise Pikmin and find more TREASURE
Kopaians: If we raise Pikmin, we might be able to get more fruits
[Clip of Pikmin hauling... BAGS?]
I want pikmin 4 to be announced just so that I can see your reaction.
my idea of Pikmin 4:
Two stories centering on two separate teams
Olimar, Louie, the President and a newcomer, perhaps Olimar's son taking up the mantle?
Koppaites, but with a similar newcomer (perhaps 'D' as seen in concept art?)
have them intertwine at points, almost like it was in Pikmin 3, but with you actually getting to play as Olimar and Louie, or even something kind of akin to SA2, where you play either side of conflicts between the two (having Pikmin fights as a boss battle would be veeery interesting)
4 player co-op as standard for either story, but still fully playable in single player or any number between the two
center the hocotate story on collecting pokos as always, with treasure as the main focus
center the koppaites' story on collecting fruit, perhaps maybe even some kind of master seeds that are ultra fertile where the seeds they originally brought back failed to cultivate
this would give reason to bring back caves, with the hocotatians looking for bigger treasures and the koppaites needing to travel deep beneath the planet's crust to retrieve these master seeds
but these collectibles should be relevant to BOTH parties - give the hocotatians the need to collect fru- er... veggies I guess, to maintain their day-to-day wellbeing, just like the koppaites in pikmin 3, and give both the ability to use the pokos they collect for some sort of purpose (perhaps hocotate freight has advanced to the point that they run a galaxy-sprawling delivery service that can supply the player with upgrades, a la chibi pc in chibi-robo? but maintain separate upgrades acquired through treasures found, and make those same treasures recoverable by the koppaites - this would add an extra layer to the hocotatian gameplay, where you balance upgrading your captains and achieving whatever poko goal is set for you)
but - and maybe this is controversial - add sparklium to the mix. nowhere near the main collectible, but as a necessary resource needed to power the ship, needing some basic low amount (10 seeds or something) to reach orbit at night, and maybe 25 to move to a new area (still needing to unlock them through story progression in the traditional fashion) and - and here's the kicker - make night fully playable and the punishment in the case you can't harvest sparklium in time (maybe even have sparklium only "bloom" in the daytime) and make night time CRAWL with enemies, much like we see in the end of day cutscene at takeoff, but EVERYWHERE. but give it value of its own - a lot of enemies means a huge opportunity to lose pikmin, but also a huge opportunity to harvest pikmin. and maybe there's a certain kind of enemy that only comes out at night: breadbugs. night could reveal hidden nooks and passageways that act as the creatures' nests, where they have hoarded fruits, treasures, even sparklium to be collected en masse for huge hauls, but always blocked by the biggest of challenges, from hordes of bulborbs, snagrets, armored cannon beetles, the worst the series has thrown at us, maybe even bosses - and if you harvest the sparklium you need (or you had it and decided to stay behind for the bonus loot) you can lift off any time you like
I think I'd even make the onion(s? probably never return to multiple after pikmin 3, not sure how I feel but whatever) damageable at night, dropping stored pikmin (in whatever amount you need to match the pikmin cap and then one to one as pikmin die) and needing a certain amount of time to be restored before it can be used again, either to hold pikmin or produce pikmin, thus adding extra risk to night time
and to add to that, I think I'd add structures that can be built up - like instead of tearing down dirt or glass walls just to lose the pieces to the wind, they can be carried back to your base and used to fortify defenses for the night - maybe enemies like bulbears and other aggressive predators try to invade your base and can be stopped, or at least stalled, with these barriers
and I'd even argue it'd be interesting to revisit ship parts as a concept - maybe not quite so dire as "you're going to die if you don't get these" (though that might be fun) but at least make them upgrades of sorts: better juice production, better sparklium consumption, make the map unlockable, and then radar functionality unlockable, perhaps hide the hocotate store behind a communcation satellite ship part, a medical bay for wounded captains to heal a la Pikmin the first - I'm sure others more creative than I could imagine further possibilities
this way each day (which I'd suggest lengthening due to all of this added nonsense) is packed full of things that would warrant the increase of player count (and an AI system to direct non-player captains)
- harvest pikmin
- build bridges and clear out obstacles
- collect fruit
- collect treasure
- collect sparklium (in a similar manner to ultra spicy and bitter berries, where the trees grow 5 seeds per harvest and produce seeds 6 times a day cycle)
- collect ultra berries
- harvest nectar
- search for ship parts
and ultimately prepare for the caves, for those all-important mega treasures and master seeds that the game basically centers around
I love the 4 area standard, but I think I'd double it, make it 8, with 3-4 caves a pop, and make the mega treasures so valuable you'll need to do about 16 caves to meet that goal, and likewise set the koppaites' master seed goal at around 16
and bring back every kind of pikmin gosh dang it! If you need to make certain combat encounters ridiculous in order to justify the extreme strength of purple pikmin, do it! or slow them down even further, make their leaf speed in p2 their flower speed in p4, so it's a huge risk to bring them around
another kind of pikmin would be cool, also, like the orange pikmin from 251, immune to explosions (and also limited to candypops in caves like purple and white) though I'd go all out and give them a full on beetle shell, or cyan pikmin with really thick fur that makes them immune to ice in some form
I think all of this tossed together like a fan dream salad (ew) would be the ultimate pikmin title

Personally, I think companies underestimate local coop way too much. Nothing sell a game series like when a friend can try it out with you.
(except, of course, not quite as lofty... but still!)

Ideas for Arlo's pitch video:
(adding more while going through the video)
Caves are explored at night.
Level Editor:
Imagine a Smash Ultimate style editor but from a Top-Down perspective.

I am currently looking for the video with that idea, WHERE

Also Miyamoto : Here comes a new Zelda!
Pikmin 4 has been announced!!
Arlo: I hope we at least get a pikmin 3 port for the switch
1 week later: pikmin 3 deluxe
What I love about the caves is the fact that the boss battles are in them. In Pikmin 3, you're right in the middle of a climactic final battle, and then all of the sudden we cut to our heroes going back to the ship, drinking juice and planning for the next day to continue the final battle. It is really annoying!
So basically, I want each section to have one cave area (doesn't actually have to be a cave, just a maze where time stops), and each of these have the boss of that area.
I love hearing Arlo talk about his passion for pikmin
I love the building a base idea. Like maybe they need a base for a steady food supplier or something. And getting collectables to further decorate and upgrade that base would be amazing
Arlo! Hey past Arlo! There’s hope! Pikmin 4 just got announced and it’s coming out 2 years from you!
A level editor is a humongous undertaking, and should never be taken lightly.
mehmehmmehm
My hopes for Pikmin 4:
-A cave-gauntlet in the post game with a high number of floors that get increasingly difficult.
I’ve never played a pikmin game before, and when I played the Pikmin 3 Demo, I instantly fell in love.
Charlie looks so fun. GOTTA BUY
tbh my main hope is that they have all Pikmin types be usable, (and not cut from the story mode like Purple and White were in 3), while also introducing two more types.
Just because you've played the game and know what the twists are doesn't mean there aren't twists lol
But I still love you and you're my favorite TH-camr, I'm not trying to leave a mean comment :)

Nintendo. Thank you.
This aged well…
Wow, Arlo’s wish list was almost word for word honored in Pikmin 4. When the heck does that ever happen?
How well this aged. somewhat well actually, but still.
To me, Pikmin 2 is still considered to be my all-time favorite Pikmin game. Mostly because there is no limited days or limited supplies like how the first and third games are. It's pretty flexible and had a lot of interesting things to do as well as the upgrades and bosses.

I was confused when I saw it...
So... Who's gonna tell the Blue Guy about the Big Announcement Today?
9:20 Making a game for speedrunners is not making it easier, instead is making it as deterministic(not random) as possible. Things like complex AIs or enemies popping out randomly are frustrating for speedrunners. Another thing that speedrunners generally want is to not have sections of the games where they have to wait for a certain thing to happen. For example, waiting for a boss to perform a move that is necessary to counter in order to beat it.
I find reasonable for games to have their own speedrunner mode, just skipping that kind of sections.
i really wished Arlo was streaming live for reactions... He might have died today
Pikmin: Civilization
Olimar helps the pikmin colonize their planet by leading the pikmin to defeat their predators and building infrastructure which protects them at night and during the day.
Damn i really didnt think they would bring back that swarm ability im glad they did
It’s useless lol. You get it after you do everything.
It still amazes me how nice Arlo looks in 1080p.
"a level editor would be very easy to implement"
Arlo, you have no freaking idea what you're talking about xD
Great video! I love the base building idea.
Maybe a whole bunch of koppaites want to move on PNF, and you have to help them build their settlement.
Procedural levels would be good, right?
@@Ramsey276one procedural levels would be way easier to implement than a level editor, yes. Still a huge production timesink. The more you'd want said levels to feel organic the more production time it'd take away from producing the handmade levels.

I agree with a lot of what's being said, I've only just got Pikmin 3 and bnow that 4 has been announced I'd love it if things like base-building were involved.
Waiting for your reaction, dude :D
