Playing Pikmin 1 and 2 definitely add some extra context, but not in any way that’s super important. so long as you know the character Olimar exists (The main character in the first two games) You’ll be fine. Since Pikmin 3 has its own new cast of main characters, it essentially has its own original story based around them. making it an easy spot for new fans to jump in.

I played Pikmin 3 on the Wii U. It was my first game in the series, I was doubtful of it, then I played the demo and loved it so much I had to get the game. I cannot express how surreal it is to see my exact story over and over in this comment section 6 years later, on a video addressing my exact concerns from then.

I'm glad we have a TH-camr who loves Pikmin as much as I do. Hardly anyone pays attention to it. This isnt "just another Wii U port". This is one of the best video games ever made.
I've played through the demo twice already I seriously can't wait. It's so surreal to finally see a real pikmin game running on a handheld console after all these years. Also I love the updates they made to the controls and pikmin AI. It really feels like the Pikmin do what you tell them do.
Technically the Xenoblade series is made by Monolith Soft, who are a third-party/second-party developer for Nintendo, and Monolith Soft originated as a splinter team that left Squaresoft after the first Xenogears game. They made the three very famous Xenosaga games for the PS2 before Nintendo financed the first Xenoblade. So yeah, a team of former Squaresoft employees, a company and culture known for their heavy emphasis on storytelling, are not exactly a one-to-one representation of their financiers, Nintendo, who originated as a company that emphasizes gameplay and accessibility in their own domestic titles.
As someone whose first Pikmin game was 3, I agree it's a great starting point. It's easier than 1 and 2, has FAR more tutorials, and it even makes a certain mix up by the main gang work even better because you also don't realize that they're wrong! The challenge mode is pretty fun (at least the wii u base game ones, never got the dlc or played deluxe myself) and I loved playing bingo battle with my friend whenever we had the chance
Pikmin 3 was my first (and still only) pikmin game I played. I never had any problems with it and while it was a little easy for me I absolutely LOVED it! It’s so brilliant and it crushes my heart there hasn’t been pikmin 4 yet
12:21 - Wasn't it the Bug Fables review video? Speaking of which, thanks a lot for helping sell me on Bug Fables, that game is amazing, and a must-buy for any fan of Classic Paper Mario.
The demo is so fun!!! I preordered it from Gamestop a couple of weeks ago. Very excited for October 30th. Also Reese's is my favorite candy. Halloween's gonna be great
The reason we are getting so many ports nowadays is because they are giving these games an opportunity to gain more fans. So with pikmin 3 and Mario 3D world which were stranded on a consul that no one plays nowadays, these games can finally achieve wider recognition. Let me put it this way: if you own an Xbox one or a PlayStation 4, and not an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, would you really spent all that money on one of those consoles just to play Skyrim? The fact is available on Xbox one means More people are going to play it and become fans which means the franchise will see more games, and the industry will succeed.
Arlo, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your brand of humour. I got a big laugh out of everything from timestamp 0:48 to 1:44. Not everybody can pull off a combination of both subversion and transparency so seamlessly regarding TH-cam and its incentive system. But you, sir, are an exception. Great work!
AAAAAAA I DIDN'T KNOW DELUXE HAD DIFFICULTY MODES!!!!! I usually play games on easy mode but having grown up with Pikmin and played loooots of it, I do find it gets a little easy at times (especially 3!) so this is wonderful!
Unfortunately it seems “normal mode” is the EASY mode, and hard mode is slightly easier than the original difficulty on the Wii U. But we know very little on Ultra Spicy mode except the fact that there is now a lower Pikmin count than 100.
honestly i had never played a pikmin game before but after playing the demo for Pikmin 3 deluxe and seeing Arlo praise the series so much im definetly buying this one
So I already had the demo downloaded, but it took watching this video to finally give it a shot last night. Dangit Arlo... Coming after I played the game. Can personally say, it was truly a satisfying and fun game. Glad to have finally finished a Pikmin game since it always seemed so much fun. Thanks for the info Arlo, it’s great to see you accept newcomers with open arms. 😄
What I tell people is that all they should need know is that there are characters named Olimar and Louie, who come from a planet called Hocotate and they work for a shipping company called Hocotate Freight. Also, their employer is known as the President of Hocotate Freight. And as Arlo said, there's a ton of mysterious lore you can get really hooked in.
Thank you Arlo! I'm so glad you're out there getting more people into Pikmin. It's my favorite series and I agree with you that if more people try the games, they'll find a lot to love too
@@orignialname4983 Yeah, he fixed it. Before it said something along the lines of "Many people are wondering if they need to play Pikmin 1 and 2 before they can play Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and the answer is yes."
Honestly, I already bought it on the Wii U without looking into the prior two games, I had the same concerns for sure but I was more so going in for gameplay as I heard it was good. Guess this was made for me however many years it was released on Wii U.
I got it at GameStop one year, they had all three and I decided to pick the newest one because then I wouldn’t have to turn it to wii mode so it’s good to know I made a fine decision
By that reasoning: White Pikmin might taste like radishes, Rock Pikmin might taste salty, and Winged Pikmin might taste like Beats. Just don't ask me what Bulbmin might taste like.
“The first two games had some pretty archaic elements” -Arlo. This is EXACTLY why Nintendo does NOT want to rerelease 1 & 2 prior to 3. If people try 1 or 2 and feel they are too “archaic” (aka not fun in their eyes) they would give up on the series. This isn’t Mario. Nintendo needs to introduce newcomers to the series with their most modern game for that series in order have give that series the greatest shot at success. Want to have new people excited about Mario Kart? Start them on 8. Not Double Dash.
@@fredrikgranstrom6743 Agreed! But I think it would require a remake. Not just a re-release. It couldn't stand alone at $60 as it currently is unless they did a "Mario Kart All-Stars" and re-released a 3 pack w/ two other Mario Kart's alongside it.
I've played Pikmin 1 a bit before, and I definitely had a good time with it, but never actually played very much of it because it got pretty stressful after a while so I just quit. So hearing you talk about how 3 is a bit more forgiving makes me much more eager to try it out! I mean, apparently Arlo loves Reese's which means that he's CLEARLY got excellent taste, so I'm sure I can't go wrong! Also for anyone who's curious about 12:21 for whatever reason, it was at the end of his Bug Fables review, which is, funnily enough, the last Arlo video I watched before this one.
You, along with the demo, hyped me up for the series. I preordered it after trying the demo and binged it three days straight. I've considered emulating the first 2 because i don't have a gamecube or wii, but i would buy them both in an instant if they were ever announced. Subbed
Thank you so much for the title and video, I’ve been a Pikmin fan before this game was announced and I want more Nintendo(and especially Smash) fans treat the series with respect.
I told myself I wasn't going to waste money on the port because I already have Pikmin 3 for Wii U and Pikmin 2 for Wii. I watched this video and tried the Pikmin 3 Deluxe demo. The Gyro controls are twitchy and the game isn't too different, but the graphics are better and the game is better in general. You made a good point. Good job, Arlo.
you talked a lot about the controls evolving in 3 and how it could be hard to go back but my thoughts are the opposite, I play 1 and 2 so much that it was really awkward playing 3's demo recently, not having the ability to control with the c stick or zoom the camera is really a step backwards imo, hopefully they fix that for 4 cuz gosh i don't like the controls in 3 at all
Arlo, I’m gonna be very honest. I wasn’t interested in Pikmin at first. But after a while of watching your videos and pikmin videos. I’m finally interested in playing pikmin 3 deluxe. Thank you so much for recommending this game over and over, I might have missed out on it otherwhise. I was originally going to just play it for a little while, but I keep coming back to it because it's just so nice, relaxing and adorable, but engaging and even a little stressful at the same time. It's an amazing balancing act that I don't think I've played any game before that handles it quite this well. Thank you so much Arlo I've been worried I played the demo and loved it to bits but was worried that I wouldn't be able to play 3 just because I never had a GameCube or whatever. you've opened my eyes to a great Nintendo IP
Arlo: Please don't stop watching early.
I, who listens to my favourite Nintendo monster while doing chores and as a desperate escape from the madness of 2020: ok if u say so
when arlo posts a video i remember to do the dishes while i listen to him
I played Pikmin 3 on the Wii U. It was my first game in the series, I was doubtful of it, then I played the demo and loved it so much I had to get the game.
I cannot express how surreal it is to see my exact story over and over in this comment section 6 years later, on a video addressing my exact concerns from then.
I started with Pikmin 2 and loved it, couldn't get into Pikmin 1 because it felt so clunky relatively, and tried Pikmin 3 on Wii U and loved it.
started with pikmin 3 on the wiiu gang lol. i didnt even get the demo, i think i saw an ad and thought the little guys were so cute (i had literally never seen a pikmin before) i just... got it. turns out its super fun and ive played it tons of times!
The fact that Arlo is a monster and his birthday is Halloween is just amazing
What about emulating the older games?
Arlo: *Sweats profusely*
Arlo The Nintendo apologist.
Arlo can sweat?
@@calebb7012 I mean emulating Wii games isn’t super easy. And the gamecube controls are.... bad
@@audoodle9963 Wii games are easier to emulate than Gamecube.

My first Pikmin game was 3 and it's what made me love the series. I've gone back and have almost finished the 1st one (and I know what you mean about the dated mechanics) and I've started the 2nd one. Great games and if anyone is on the fence, I highly recommend Pikmin 3 as well
Imagine instead of “Pikmin 4” we get “Hey Pikmin 2”.
Please no....
That would be me living a nightmare.
Pikmin 3.9
@Soupmaster101 lol shut up there will be more linear games trust me
@@XSlimSxadyX Having to wait for BOTW2 to come out and hope that Nintendo doesn't decide to stick with BOTW style for the next mainline entries is nerve racking for us Post BOTW Zelda fans. I'll still try to remain hopeful. I love the Older 3D Zelda so much man :[
I'm glad we have a TH-camr who loves Pikmin as much as I do.
“It’s still a Nintendo game so you already know what to expect in the story department” I still don’t understand why you haven’t played xenoblade yet
Xenoblade is MonolithSoft!
Henriko Magnifico yes buts it’s also Nintendo game so yeah
And Kirby. But I guess that's made by Hal.
Probably the most story heavy games made by Nintendo themselves were the first three Paper Mario especially Super Paper Mario.
I love hearing you get off topic and rant about things you're passionate about. It makes for your best content.

"Pikmin 4 when?"

@@periclescomoeddie5215 lol
I guess it's ready, but it will be revealed if Pikmin 3 DX will reach the 1 million units sold.
Arlo sounds like he's trying to sell you drugs at the end lmao but that's entirely accurate pikmin is a drug and i need more
Pikmin 3 was my first (and still only) pikmin game I played. I never had any problems with it and while it was a little easy for me I absolutely LOVED it! It’s so brilliant and it crushes my heart there hasn’t been pikmin 4 yet
You definitely should try out Pikmin 1 and 2; they are both amazing games.
You can get them both on Wii U still
We shouldn’t worry too much about the order in which we play these games

@@Yes-sb4lo Well that’s story driven isn’t it? I don’t think with pikmin the story matters that much
Well, Pikmin 2 *should* be played after 1.
@@harleyoyelade9988 Of course it is, and besides, Pikmin 2 takes place right after Pikmin 1 so prolly should play in that order
12:21 - Wasn't it the Bug Fables review video? Speaking of which, thanks a lot for helping sell me on Bug Fables, that game is amazing, and a must-buy for any fan of Classic Paper Mario.
My guy. I just finished Pikmin 1 yesterday.
A bit too late to tell me that “i can start with 3”
Now play 2 and afterwards 3. It's better to follow the order
Think of it this way, you have the opportunity to enjoy the world building thoroughly by playing 1 and 2 first unlike most people who just start at 3.
Pikmin 3 feels kind of like a soft reboot of 1 in a sense where a lot of the mechanics are the same, but with newer ideas added in.
2 is the best out of all of them
Pikmin 2 is one of the hardest games Nintendo had ever made this century. Good luck haha
Thank you SO MUCH for making this, I was gonna skip it because I hadn’t played 1 or 2
Thanks for the recommendations: the game and the candy. Seriously Reese’s are friggin rad
You actually sold me Pikmin 3. And I don't even have Switch.
It's collecting dust next to the Mario Rabbids XCOM.
The demo is so fun!!! I preordered it from Gamestop a couple of weeks ago. Very excited for October 30th. Also Reese's is my favorite candy. Halloween's gonna be great
I played pikmin 1 first because I wanted to torture myself, hopped onto the demo and was so confused that there was no swarming
"the switch is some magical IP growing machine" me who had never played animal crossing before NH
Yeeeeees
To be fair, AC was way bigger than Pikmin even before NH, New leaf alone sold almost 13 million copies on the 3DS
I had NL before NH
The reason we are getting so many ports nowadays is because they are giving these games an opportunity to gain more fans. So with pikmin 3 and Mario 3D world which were stranded on a consul that no one plays nowadays, these games can finally achieve wider recognition. Let me put it this way: if you own an Xbox one or a PlayStation 4, and not an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, would you really spent all that money on one of those consoles just to play Skyrim? The fact is available on Xbox one means More people are going to play it and become fans which means the franchise will see more games, and the industry will succeed.
"And the day before my birthday, no less!"
Wait, Arlo, you're birthday's on Halloween?! Awesome!
His TH-cam identity as a monster makes so much sense now.
He he they finally decided to put these games on the switch
So I already had the demo downloaded, but it took watching this video to finally give it a shot last night.

Olimar would led you to believe that pikmin taste like carrots but purples most likely taste like eggplants
By that reasoning:
White Pikmin might taste like radishes, Rock Pikmin might taste salty, and Winged Pikmin might taste like Beats.
Just don't ask me what Bulbmin might taste like.
i think louie is more qualified on this subject
Oh my GOSH!!! Arlo made me bust a gut on his explanation on how revealing things too early could destroy his channel!
They should remake double dash
@@fredrikgranstrom6743 Agreed! But I think it would require a remake. Not just a re-release. It couldn't stand alone at $60 as it currently is unless they did a "Mario Kart All-Stars" and re-released a 3 pack w/ two other Mario Kart's alongside it.

their response: Nah I would want to play 1 and 2 first
My Response: Arlos worst nightmare
I've played Pikmin 1 a bit before, and I definitely had a good time with it, but never actually played very much of it because it got pretty stressful after a while so I just quit. So hearing you talk about how 3 is a bit more forgiving makes me much more eager to try it out! I mean, apparently Arlo loves Reese's which means that he's CLEARLY got excellent taste, so I'm sure I can't go wrong!
Also for anyone who's curious about 12:21 for whatever reason, it was at the end of his Bug Fables review, which is, funnily enough, the last Arlo video I watched before this one.
I’ve never clicked a video so fast also TWO ARLO VIDEOS IN TWO DAYS WHOOO
You, along with the demo, hyped me up for the series. I preordered it after trying the demo and binged it three days straight. I've considered emulating the first 2 because i don't have a gamecube or wii, but i would buy them both in an instant if they were ever announced. Subbed
I'm buying a copy of this game for every Switch owner I know. Seriously.

I cant wait to play this game it looks super fun and I have been wanting to play it ever since I heard Arlo talking about how much he loves it!
I was skeptical but since there is a demo im gonna try it just for you.
Thank you so much for the title and video, I’ve been a Pikmin fan before this game was announced and I want more Nintendo(and especially Smash) fans treat the series with respect.
That early abandonment tangent had me rolling
So thank you so much for showing your love for pikmin to use and showing how amazing it is. I can’t wait to play it!😆

I kinda wish Arlo had more screen time in these kinds of videos again, it seems like since mid 2019 he's slowly been appearing less, and now we're at the point to where he only appears in the intro and outro segments. I know it's very difficult for him to film himself in current circumstances, I just hope that as things start getting better again, we can get more of Arlo in his videos.
I would actually recommend that newcomers start with Pikmin 3, as it leaves Olimar and Louie shrouded in mystery for a large part of the game.
Don't worry Arlo, your videos have made me very interested about Pikmin and I already have preorder the game as I am super excited to try out Pikmin for the first time. Also my birthday is this month as well so this game is even more special.
