Honestly. You're lucky that you got the rereleases of the previous Pikmin games. Most franchises didn't get that, much less dlc. Where's F-zero gx? Where's punch out Wii? Where's Luigi's mansion 1? There's too many incomplete franchises on the switch to bother with dlc.

To be honest, Pikmin 4 already has multiple free DLC built in: Trial of the Sage Leaf and Olimar's Tale, both are separate experiences that could've been DLC but aren't.

Is Pikmin 4 worth checking out? I bought 3 and gave it a spin and I'm wondering if maybe Pikmin just isn't for me. Maybe I'll try 3 again, but i don't want to sink another $60 just to confirm yep, this series isn't my type of game.

In 4 you only control one (or like one and a half) characters so the experience is much more focused, and you're not bound to an arbitrary time limit. You can explore and progress as you please.

I genuinely think Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, as well as the Sage Leaf Trials were considered DLC at first, but they wanted the game to get reviewed as positively as possible, to grow the fanbase bigger than ever, so they threw in those modes for free.

Actually, I think it’s the complete opposite. Pikmin has always been a niche series with only serviceable sales. There have been plenty of companies who have abandoned IPs who performed even better than Pikmin. Hell, even Nintendo has let go of some IPs that had even more broad appeal than Pikmin.
I honestly believe that the only reason Pikmin is still alive is because Miyamoto still has a big presence at Nintendo. This has been his baby and it seems like he’ll do anything to keep it alive. I’m willing to bet that the reason for the long development was that he was fighting to get the project even greenlit (and I’m under the assumption that “Hey Pikmin” was the “new Pikmin” game he was talking about in 2014.

If they would even just add an option to disable the "Oh no, the poor pikmin!" messages that pop up literally every single time one pikmin dies, I would be ecstatic.
Personally I think they should have made enemies responsible(respawn, typo!) on the overworld after about 2 or 3 days or so.

Or just make auto lock on an option in the menu. Its my one actual major complaint with the game since it can genuinely make the game hell sometimes when you're surrounded by a horde and need to focus one specific enemy.

While I loved Pikmin 4 (Oatchi is a VERY good boy!), not every game needs DLC. Pikmin 4 already feels like a feature complete game. The worst thing you can say is the multiplayer feels like more of an afterthought than Pikmin 3, but the singleplayer is massive and Olimar's Shipwreck Tales would've been post-launch DLC in any other game.

Trail of the Sage Leaf totally screams DLC too, especially with how the onions you get there are treated like bonus consolation prizes.

Depends on the context of the DLC. If it is content that should be in the base game being sold as DLC it is awful or a cash grab. If it is to add to an already amazing experience, it is well worth it

Technically, Mario Odyssey’s DLC was Luigi’s Balloon World (and Labo VR). I know that ain’t much, but technically it’s something still.
Wait, were we expecting Pikmin 4 DLC? Did they ever say it was in the cards? I never really thought on it and assumed it was a case of Mario Party Superstars where we get what we get and that's that.
Of course DLC would absolutely be nice but if they never hinted at any then I don't understand the expectation.
I like Arlo but he tends to do this a lot were he expects something that was ether never expressed or is rushing something to release already. Nintendo is one of the few that actually takes their time with making games.
He also just seems to have a thing for DLC in general. Like originally he scoffed at the idea of Splatoon 3 and thought it should just be DLC for Splatoon 2
it's just one of those games like odyssey where it's the most perfect fit for dlc, also they started showing these images that were clearly using a developer version of the game that implied there was some kind of 2 player thing going on, it was very strange
The last game did have dlc though and I spent so much time platinuming those challenges. I'm happy on a sooner Pikmin 5 though
I'd say it's a combination of his love for Pikmin, the fact that 3 got dlc, and he just wants more yo play. I'd also love DLC, but I don't think precedent is set unless the previous 2 entries to a title get it. It's just wishful thinking otherwise

Pikmin 4 is still on my "games to buy" list that I haven't bought. To be honest finding a job in my town is nearly impossible. Even the people that live in my town have to find work in a different town. So buying new games especially $60 games is almost impossible for me right now.
Honestly Miyamoto talks about Pikmin so dearly and frequently, I almost forget he's the Mario guy. He's kinda the Pikmin guy now lol

My biggest fear for this topic is that the new console will not be backwards compatible and will require you to buy Pikmin 4 again but with all that juicy new content (which sadly i would pay for anyway) and they are just saving DLC/more content to drop with a "rerelease"

I think expecting DLC for a game just because it's a good game is a bad mental trap to fall into. Just like the one where you expect a sequel to a good game immediately like you have been with Odyssey 2.

I had an idea for a dlc. Remember the president? I was thinking maybe he would go to PNF-404 on his own to find treasure to repay another debt. Maybe he could stumble upon new pikmin types (like 2 or even 3). Maybe he explores 2 new areas showing the strengths and weaknesses of the new pikmin types. He could also discover new neverbefore seen treasures. This is an idea I've been thinking about for a while and wanted to share it. Maybe the title of the dlc could be called: The Presidents voyage.

The only type of games where DLC is regularly anything like a necessary part of the "complete" experience are live-service games and those games are fundamentally never really finished.

That used to be the case, I dont think it is in the current gaming landscape, quick DLC pretty much always means something was cut out of the game to sell back to gamers at a higher price point
8:34 a level editor is something I had hoped for forever in pikmin, imagine the caves and levels that can be made, traps puzzles enemy placements… imagine if it was on the quality of forge in halo 3
Arlo has a point with the upgrades you can only get after the end of the game, imagine the amount of stuff you can do with being able to carry stuff as a Captain just in case you don't have enough pikmin

I would like them _less_ if I paid extra for them. They were good little side things to do in an already great game, but if I had to pay more money just to access Olimar's Tale and especially Sage Leaf I would be disappointed that they were so short and insubstantial for the money.

Hey, I'm still wondering where the FLIP the next Star Fox game is? Reminder to everyone that Miyamoto stated in an interview after Star Fox Zero came out that he "wants to put more energy into Star Fox and Pikmin". It so incredibly disappointing that Star Fox has just skipped the switch generation, a perfect time to really test Star Fox's status without BAD data getting in the way. I want to have that Arlo Moment, I want to be massively stunned and excited for something. The only thinks that have only done that are rumors of Star Fox Assault getting a remake or remaster and that might not happen.
Ive noticed that when it comes to paid DLC, Nintendo usually announces it ahead of the games release. Breathe of the Wild, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and 3. Hell, i think even Luigu mansions 3's multiplayer DLC was announced ahead of the games release. There's some exceptions but for the most part if they dont announce it before the games release, i dont expect anything coming.

Another possible scenario is they could be waiting for the next system to be officially revealed, that way they can not only announce DLC but also announce "deluxe" addition for the next console as a launch title or a launch window release, Switch owners can buy the DLC but it would come packaged with the next gen version

So here’s my theory: we’re not getting anything till Switch 2, where we get Pikmin 4 Deluxe. That’s where we’ll get online dandori battles, a proper challenge mode, and new game+, as well as full co-op, whether that’s local or WiFi I’m not gonna guess, but I have a shred of evidence. The Joy-Cons were treasures in the Newly Nostalgic collection. It’s kinda weird to be nostalgic for their current system, isn’t it? But if the switch 2 gets Pikmin 4 Deluxe, then it would make more sense. It’s newly nostalgic because the switch is finally in the past.
Honestly this is probably one of my favourite Arlo videos ever. That LEGO analogy was great and that copium joke at the end was honestly hilarious!
For me I’d just like to see a “Spicy” difficulty mode where the enemies are tougher and respond after a few days. Another thing they could add is a new game plus mode. There are some upgrades and onions that you can get very very late into the game to the point where they’re almost useless.
Lastly just some new caves would be nice. Maybe add two-four per map.

IMO Pik 4 launched with DLC included. Olimar's Journey and the Dandori Trials both feel like they _would've_ been sold to us for extra by any other games company, but Nintendo just included it in the base game for free, like the old days before DLC.

Consumers shouldn't hope for developers to withhold content until after you've made a purchase, I don't care how common season passes and such have become, the best case scenario is if development started post launch.

Pikmin 5 might be like TOTK. It was planned as DLC for the previous game but became its own game.
The only thing I can think as being dlc is a new game plus mode of sorts. The fact this game has so much content and doesn't have game-breaking bugs is amazing. I'd say take what you can get in this instance

The fact that we still never got two player story with Oatchi hurts my soul.
I think an update or DLC or the like I'd be super curious in would be a Pikmin randomizer mode. Especially with all the upgrades you can purchase and unlock in Pikmin 4, I think it'd be fun to be able to remix and relocate various abilities or Pikmin locations or the like, and see how much it changes up the gameplay progression.
On the subject of Star Allies, while I don't think anything has been confirmed I always felt like 90% of the post launch content was meant to be in the base game.
It's no secret that the games felt kind of shallow when it came out and I believe that was for two reasons: First getting the friend AI to work properly and figuring out how to design the game so that none of them ran into any problems and second because they didn't want to miss the 25th anniversary. They were almost a year late with the actual release itself and all the content wasn't added until late 2018. They decided to release the game early to still be part of the celebration and settled on adding the other stuff later.
Heroes in Another Dimension was specifically made in response to criticism yes, but the Dream Friends were most likely meant to be there from the start, given the rest of the games legacy celebrating nature.
Forgotten Land was a complete game at launch so HAL probably didn't see a reason to give it DLC.
Pikmin is getting better treatment than Star Fox at this point ;_;

I understand the want for more Pikmin 4, but I think there is also something nice about knowing all of the Pikmin 4 content is on the cartridge in such a well made and finished state.
