  • In this tutorial, you will learn the purpose and benefits of Neutral Protein Filler drops in regards to a #healthyhair / #curlygirlmethod routine.
    Naturally Textured hair is always at a moisture disadvantage, leaving it vulnerable to split/ends and breakage. Incorporating protein into your routine will repair and strengthen the strands making length retention and health an achievable and inevitable goal.
    According to Milady Cosmetology Textbook, Hair is made up of approximately 91% protein. Protein gives the hair strands structure, providing a physical space to absorb and retain moisture, color, etc.
    Think of your protein-based hair strands as individual containers for moisture. If your “container” is full of holes then all the moisture you just imparted will leak right out. Protein acts as a temporary spackle to repair any damage the hair strands have sustained to keep it healthy, vibrant, and strong.
    Healthy hair requires a balance between moisture and protein levels in your hair. Remember the old phrase, “too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing?" Well, natural haircare follows the same logic.
    This is why we call it a Moisture/Protein Balance. Trust me it seems a lot harder than it truly is once you put this information into action.
    In my personal experience, one of the keys to moisture/protein balance is your deep conditioner! Since I recommend deep conditioning weekly, you will deep condition four times during any given month. Alternate your protein-based conditioners with your moisture-based one. If week one you used a protein-based deep conditioner, use a moisture based one for week two. Alternate again the following week. This will help you keep a consistent balance.
    The other key to mastering your protein/moisture balance is using the right kind of protein...

  • @NativeNYerChicHK
    @NativeNYerChicHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    No, it says to put 1-2 Oz in your hair and not rinse, just put your color on. But you’re absolutely gonna be rinsing thoroughly after your color is done processing, and then also conditioning your hair at the end. You’re always supposed to rinse this stuff out.

    • @RedCarpetCurls
      @RedCarpetCurls  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Products can be utilized differently than advertised on labels, for example rinse out conditioner can also be used as co-washes because they contain similar cationic surfactants. The first five ingredients of the protein filler drops are hydrolyzed protein that benefit the hair if you use it as per label, or differently than as shown on label. Eventually the stuff is going to be washed out no matter how you use it, thats what matters ❤

    • @NativeNYerChicHK
      @NativeNYerChicHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Red Carpet Curls oh, I know you *can* choose to use any product in whatever way you want to. But when you were talking about the instructions it sounded like you were saying that it says on the bottle it was meant to be left in, and I was just pointing out that, that’s not the case. The next step on those directions is to put color over it and the rinse them both out together after the color is done processing. That’s why I commented what I did.
      I see lots of women saying they like to out a few drops in their styling products to give their hair a slight protein charge for the day! Don’t know if I’d do that, I don’t want to end up with protein overload.
      I will say, for myself I am usually a stickler for following the directions. Only because I have to believe the people that formulate things have to know better than anyone else how their own product is going to work in the most optimal way.
      But I sure as heck wouldn’t be opposed to dropping some in a deep conditioner and using it that way, two benefits in one! Because you are kinda using it the way they say to, for a stand alone treatment anyway, your way is just with the addition of the deep conditioner instead of water! I call that genius! 😂

    • @RedCarpetCurls
      @RedCarpetCurls  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@NativeNYerChicHK hahaha hardly genius but thanks. Many people like to add in small drops since hydrolyzed is gentle protein it wouldn't be so easy to overload your hair with such small amounts. But definitely you need to master formulation label advise before navigating on your own. Assuming all your own risk of course like testing any new product. I don't use this when coloring my hair since I get my hair done in salon. But in the deep conditioner? I hands down think is the most effective. Im at times a lazy curly girl. Thats why i NEEDED to find the science for myself to understand what would happen if you do this and this... im a nerd don't mind me lol

    • @NativeNYerChicHK
      @NativeNYerChicHK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Red Carpet Curls Hahaha, science nerd here too! 😂 I’ve used it when coloring my hair (I color my own hair because I now have more gray than brown hair 😩 so I’d constantly be at the salon doing my roots 😂) and it really does ensure an even dye job. And I always end my coloring with a gloss treatment to seal it all in. Between the gloss treatment and the protein - my hair is left feeling and looking fabulous!! Really no visible signs of damage from the dye process!
      This is a blog I think you’d enjoy, this woman went IN on her research!! I especially love the breakdown of oils and which does what for hair! Really invaluable information!! science-yhairblog.blogspot.com

    Hello Gorgeous! I loved learning about protein filler, I'm blown away, can't believe this was the first time i heard of this. Thank You!
    My question is, I'm a white gal, very long, (to my waist) naturally straight, couldn't keep a curl if my life depended on it, hair. I color it every 3 to 4 months with a medium ash brown, trying to cut the natural reds in my reddish brown hair. Maybe once a year adding a few blonde highlights. My hair is a little frizzy and stringy, dry ends & looks worn by the coloring. Is this what you would recommend that will help me to get life, health & fulness back?

  • @k.t.8076
    @k.t.8076 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your hair is GORGEOUS and I appreciate your info. about the protein filler! Kind of scared to try it (watched Swavy Curly Courtney's warning video), but it seems moderation is the key. I think I'll try a few drops in my conditioner and maybe in my gel. Thank you!

    • @RedCarpetCurls
      @RedCarpetCurls  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi beautiful! Thank you SOOO much for this compliment. Genuinely. It made me so happy to know someone else found the information helpful. That is all i care about. As for my hair thank you again!!! It's gotten even better than this video im just so thankful for the info.
      Now while I cannot speak for influencers, I understand warning videos. But thats why I study trichology (science of hair and scalp) because when you know the science you know what can and cannot happen. You know what will cause damage and what will not.
      For example this product. Its hydrolyzed protein which is considered the smallest and most gentle protein after amino acids. A few drops of this is too small of an amount to cause massive damage the way a gelatin treatment can do to your hair.
      Moderation is the key to ANYTHING in life. So I will always advise the BEST place and most effective for these drops is in your deep conditioner since that formula penetrates to the deepest layers of the hair to repair it. Hydrolyzed protein is so small it enters deep into the hair as well to repair the hair and increase moisture retention.
      As for styling, just a few drops in your leave in is or curl cream is fine as well. The key to cgm is remembering this is a very individualized method. While influencers like Courtney and educators like me, mean well we are only here to serve as guides. We are here to give you the right information (that we know of because please remember misinformation spreads quickly around the internet) so you can make your educated decision.
      Like any decision in life, gather all the info, and you will be fine.
      I really hope this comment helped ease any concern! ❤

      Hiii gorgeous! So glad you love the video! Yeah I see a lot of people add it to normal conditioners because the bottle says not to rinse out but honestly considering this product is normally used by hair dressers in dye jobs it can get confusing. But honestly deep conditioners are meant to penetrate to the cortex anyway since most rinse out conditioners are formulated to focus on the cuticle. Deep conditioners are the perfect base to go hand and hand with this protein ♥️

    My hair will curl beautifully for maybe a few hours during and after air drying but falls out so fast save for the few curls I have in the front, I can't even confidently say what my curl pattern is because it's so all over the place. It obviously needs moisture, it dries really fast if I'm not quick enough with putting moisturizing products in after a shower, and the curls pop up only with heavy duty moisturizers in it. (I use Shea hair smoothie and milk and I'm white, so my hair isn't textured) otherwise it's just frizzy and gets tangled easily. I'm assuming a protein filler will help because it is color treated, (my hair is black and I have green highlights) and I'm looking into doing hot oil treatments as well so I don't have to really glob on the products to get moisture back in. If I sleep on it, put it up, look at it the wrong way, it will fall out immediately and just look so nasty and messy, and I'm lost because let's be real most white people don't really know what to do with curls, like I had no idea my hair was curly until the pandemic, and I know my hair texture is different from most of the resources I see online. My hair is thick but the individual strands are very fine and take on product, color, and bleach really easy, but won't hold anything like heat styling or back combing or things like that.

    • @RedCarpetCurls
      @RedCarpetCurls  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well happy new year gorgeous! okay let’s see if we can lead you in the right direction here.
      now regardless of color hair texture is there it’s in the genes and many of us regardless of where we come from actually don’t know we have texture! i used to straighten my hair every week since i was kid i saw fine little waves here and there but i never thought i had curly hair until i made the change in my journey.
      from what you’ve described (color processing going quickly, hair drying quickly, hair color) it sounds like you have high porosity hair like me! high porosity means that there is damage on the outermost layer of the hair (known as the cuticle) the little cracks and gaps in the cuticle don’t allow it to fully close holding in moisture color etc. this leads to a lot of dry hair and frizz.
      i absolutely recommend protein like amino acids to help begin repairing this damage to help your hair hold in moisture longer preventing excessive frizz.
      now understand that with damage in the hair there will be some frizz, even healthy hair has some frizz that’s where volume comes from.
      i would recommend getting an aloe vera leaf from your local supermarket it should be about $1-2 and cut it up, put it in the blender for a few seconds and begin applying it to your hair and scalp, leave it for about 25 mins and then shampoo out. aloe vera contains all the amino acids needed to repair the hair strand as well as aloe is very moisturizing. so it will help with frizz. repairing the cuticle will help your hair retain more moisture over time.
      as for styling, i would recommend sectioning your hair first when you come out of the shower, keeping a spray bottle handy with water, and apply your products to each section, focus on one section at a time adding as much water as you need since applying products on soaking wet hair allows for more volume!
      this will help sooo much with definition, i do have a sectioning video on my youtube channel.
      if you want to see your hair type and suggestions from an actual lab you can order a kit from My Mane Bio, they have a comprehensive hair care analysis- Microscopic hair analysis to learn porosity, elasticity, width, and overall health. Current products review, styling recommendations for your natural hair and follow-up email correspondence if you have questions.
      that will help greatly to set you on the path that will work best for you, comparing your hair to others will just lead to frustration.
      shea moisture causes a lot of product build up so make sure to have a good clarifying shampoo around for 1-2x a month use. i love the miche beauty detox shampoo or the inahsi naturals soothing mint sulfate free clarifying shampoo (discount code: redcarpetcurls)

    • @RedCarpetCurls
      @RedCarpetCurls  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi beautiful queen! So the NPR will be stronger than the amino acids trick for sure. Amino acids are really gentle and will help you keep a protein moisture balance by giving you more moisture. I have definitely split up these treatments. Winter is rough on my hair so I deep condition twice a week I've been fine doing both. Personally it's because I add these into moisture heavy deep conditioners and rinse out so I'm not accumulating tons of protein you know? Plus as you see in the videos I use very little of each. So so far so good ♥️

      I was just telling a friend about this and went to find the link to send it to her and couldn’t find it anywhere. It’s damn shame cause it really works.

    This is the only product that works and its the only one I use.
    If anyone knows where to get these I am very interested. If Colorful wont bring back their product in 16oz bottles, then I would buy a clone product from say, India or another country that is not allergic to profits and success.
    I would even go so far as to look into having a cloned product created to fill the void. No substitutes work the same, it must be this product. I am not allergic to it nor does it ruin volume. It was a masterpiece of engineering.
    I have no idea why Colorful stopped producing it unless it had something to do with New Zealand's tyrannical livestock reduction programs that seek to end farmed animals for food and product ingredients. Like a company being aware and just taking a knee rather than lobbying to keep their business profitable.
