    THANK YOU Mell for educating curlyfriends how to get the best of their curls! I've FINALLY perfected my routine (after 4 years of failing) by watching your videos and I can now honestly say I prefer my naturally curly hair to straightened, 👐🏼 I'm forever grateful to you. Love you and your humor (and your seester + dynamic between you) stay real to yourself ❤️

      It gives me hope that it took you time to find the right routine. Last week I had great hair, my sister actually thought I had used a curling iron and my hair was so soft. But I have to been able to replicate it. I've been embracing my curly hair for a few months now.

    -hover the hair dryer on the roots until you notice it's begging to set
    -zhoosh the root area
    -switch the head position around
    -scrunch more or less depending on the shrinkage you want
    Don't stay upside down the whole time
    Don't touch your hair with your hands

    -Leave the ends for the end
    -Hover over root area, don’t touch the curls to speed up the air dry process.
    -Put the diffuser on your roots a little once it starts drying to give more volume
    -Don’t dry your hair upside down the entire time. Switch it up!
    -Don’t touch your hair while you’re drying to prevent frizz.
    -Once you feel a cast start crunching and fluff out curls

My confidence has soared immensely. Thank you. Thank you.

    I have 2b, 2c hair with only a few 3a's underneath. I would love to see you style wavy hair to get a lot of volume but also a lot of definition. As a wavy we always want our hair more defined but we also need volume! Thanks Mell for another Magnifique Video!

    • @taraized
      @taraized 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Same curl pattern as you, I look for curl clumping and definition. Even if I have sopping wet hair I'll still have individual strands separating that in the end causes halo frizz. Doesn't matter what products I use and drying method, drives me nutz lol

    • @ClassiqueFinds
      @ClassiqueFinds 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@taraized With our curl pattern clumping is your best friend but like you, when I get clumps there's always frizz. I guess not every hair wants to be in a Hair family XD If you rake your products in you instantly get stringy curls, a look that only tighter curls can pull off. I feel like only Scrunching product in isn't the best method to distribute products but I need my clumps! What products do you use, especially for definition? I am still looking for my holy grails when it comes to products but my vibrating shampoo brush is my best friend, lol.

    • @taraized
      @taraized 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ClassiqueFinds oh it depends on what my hair feels like doing any particular day lol I do like jessicurl spiralicious gel and I've been experimenting with mousse. I recently saw a video where a lady did half not your mothers curl talk mousse and the other half dippity do girls with curls mousse, the half that had the dippity do had PERFECT CLUMPED SPIRALS! Next time I'm at marshalls I'm going to grab some to see if it works on my hair

    • @ClassiqueFinds
      @ClassiqueFinds 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@taraized I saw that video, lol. I have jessicurl's set for wavies but I think it's too light, with not enough hold. I have been experimenting with mousse as well. I tried pantene curl mousse & I liked it a lot but it's not a HOLY GRAIL. I do like NYM Naturals Tahitian defining cream it actually helps with definition. I do change it up every wash day though, lol. I have been looking for a dupe for the denman brush, because I don't want to shell out $12, but I would like to see how it helps with clumping.

    • @taraized
      @taraized 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ClassiqueFinds I bought a dupe denman from Walmart, I dont like it but I also dont think I'm doing it right lol I do use it when I deep conditioner just to make extra sure that all of my hair is coated though. I highly recommend jessicurl spiralicious, if you are scent sensitive you can get unscented, I actually got 4 day GOOD hair days out of it. I tried herbal essence mousse 2 different ways, once out of the shower dousing my hair with a spray bottle then applying the mousse which worked out fairly well and the other time on damp towel dried hair scrunched it in, that was awful lol

    I’ve tried so many diffusing methods, they either didn’t work, didn’t make sense, or worked well but took WAYYYYY too long and parts of my head would still be wet. This is the first one that I actually quite like! I have wavy/curly hair and it always had problems with my roots being pin straight and an uneven curl pattern (parts of my head would be big ringlets and others completely straight and frizzy). With this one my roots match the rest of my head pretty well, and most of my head has the same curl pattern! I haven’t really taken good care of my curls for a few years, so I’m trying to train it to go back, so i wasn’t expecting it to be perfect, but this turned out way better than expected! Thank you so much!

    Mell I am so glad I found you! I have began to stop fighting my curly/wavy hair last year when I turned 62....YES, I SAID 62! I fought it for years (obviously), colored it, straightened it and horrifyingly almost considered a perm. But now I have natural salt & pepper hair (which I get a lot of compliments on) and have been experimenting with various products still trying to find what's best for me. I still have a lot of bad wash days as I am constantly fighting frizz here in humid Florida however, it is getting better. I was mostly air drying my hair as I didn't have a lot of luck diffusing...now I know why. Love you so much as you have helped me love my hair 🥰

    Girl, damn. I'm so new to this whole curly stuff and in the beginning I started diffusing from the ends and I saw so much frizz and straight pisces that I thought I actually don't have curly hair and it's all in my head. So I realised month later that maybe I should try to diffuse roots first and not even touch the ends but hoover around them as well. Oh what a happy day! My curls/strong waves were nice and bouncy and now I see that there is another human being doing this and I'm not the only weirdo. Thank you for making me laugh ("filthy hands") and just teaching these amazing tips! :)

    This helped me so much!! For so many years I hated my curls because I didn’t know how to manage them, I would just straighten my hair because they wouldn’t curl right and I had no idea how to deal with them. Now I’m finally loving my curls, so I’ve been watching lots of videos on how to manage it, the products, diffusing and drying, washing, and I’ve finally found your channel which has helped me so much! Thank you!!! ❤

    I appreciate this video. I'm just starting to wear my hair curly, I'm either a 2C with a lot of 3A mixed in, or 3A. Anyway, my hair is quite low porosity and takes a LONG time to dry. It takes a ton of time to diffuse too, and I was ending up with dry ends and wet roots, after following some tutorials. This is exactly what I needed to see. I let mine set up in a plop first though, so the gel cast is already setting before I start blow-drying. I will definitely use a lot of things I learned in this video. Thanks, youtube recs.

    Mel, I gotta say. Firstly, I feel like I have known you forever. You are so relatable! Secondly, thank you from the bottom of my soul. I have been following the curly girl method for a few years and it DOES. NOT. WORK. At least, not for my hair. I have fine hair that is similarly textured to yours. The curly girl method left my curls too clumpy, not fluffy, flat, and lackluster. Since I started following your methods my hair has done a complete 180. I am still working on getting volume at the crown but I think if I keep adapting my routine I will find success. Thank you for finally making it possible to manage and love my curls.

    Quick question, do you maintain high speed and high heat through out the whole diffusing process (Hovering + Scrunching w/ Diffuser)?

  • @reyapatel-kanbi8633
    @reyapatel-kanbi8633 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you Mell. I started using this method about a year ago and it has changed up my hair so much. Before this method I was never able to defuse my hair, I’d always air dry. Now I never air dry I always use my diffuser. Thank you boo!! I love your channel.

  • @mrspress8057
    @mrspress8057 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I air dry for about 45 minutes to an hour with hair clips placed in various places to help with volume. Then, I diffuse almost the same way you do, except I start on cold to “set” my hair a little. I never go to high heat, occasionally I will go to medium, but not for long; I mostly stay on cold and low heat. I only use low speed as well; I have very fine hair and high speed causes too much frizz for me. I hover to start, but then I place the diffuser on my roots, while changing positions fairly often. Then, like you, once my hair is mostly dry, I use my hand to break up the cast. I’m so thankful for the inventor of diffusers😂
