After a decent amount of research we bought a 2016 Honda HRV - EX model. It was the best match for our lifestyle and budget. My wife and I are about 50-ish with two kids in their late teens.

I like how zack focuses on what you get on the base models. It's great to see the top of the line models but they are all overpriced! Car makers need to offer more in base models!

I completely agree with you, Honda hit this one out of the park! My wife and I took an HR-V for a test drive a couple of months ago and we absolutely loved it and we'll be looking to get one when we replace our 2011 Civic in a couple years time. As a two-time Civic owner, I can confirm that Civic owners will be seriously giving this car some thought as I'm one of those Civic owners! It's just unfortunate it's not built in Alliston, ON as well.

You're right, this civic on stilts will be taking over the roads since you actually do get a lot more functionality in this than the civic for not a lot more. And it's definitely not a bad vehicle to look at. Good for Honda.

I believe this is called the Honda Vezel in Japan, which has been available for at least a couple of years. Great looking car. I would definitely take this over the Fit or the Civic. Great review, as always Zach!

Very nice looking vehicle. I agree though, that volume system would drive me nuts.

I have a Civic Si and I absolutely love it, except for just one thing, as you mentioned: the lack of a physical volume knob. Almost every review of a Honda with this head unit I've seen includes a complaint about the lack of volume knob. You would think Honda would change course on the newer products coming out. I usually use the steering mounted volume control but it still would be nice to have the physical knob. With Android and Apple head units coming factory installed in upcoming cars I wonder if we will see more of these dial-free configurations.

glad u liked it; It seemed you preferr it more than Mazda's CX-3. I was waiting for this review, but int the mean-time, got myself into a CrossTrek. I know they're not Subaru's tru direct competitor, but w/ their Forestor going head on against the Rav-4 and CR-V, the CrossTrek seemed their closest rival - and to be honest, I liked the CT more than Mazda's or Honda's offering. Never seen you take the CrossTrek for a spin (though it's basically a Imprezza crossover would be intrigued to know what you thought of it - even if a reply instead of a full-on video) :) Thanks!!!

Great review! I have been considering the HRV vs. Mazda vs. Mazda CX-5. Thoughts?

Great review. I had the pleasure to sit in one of these today and I was amazed how much leg room there is in the back even with the front seats fully extended. My question is, what's the point of buying a civic? Just look and feel?
