    All i gotta say is thank you soooo much for this informative video.
    I was able to complete the task and save a crap ton of money thanks to you!

      Great to hear! It's a job that I think is worth considering doing on your own. Probably not for someone who has never wrenched on a car but a fried clutch can be a great motivator. lol It takes far fewer tools than folks might think and you can do it without a lift. Thank you for watching and glad to have helped!

    Great video. Really helped me. I didn't need to remove the exhaust, you can get it in and out with exhaust in place.

    I thought using the jack chain to keep the motor from rocking back and forth for reinstall was genius. that was my main problem the first time i pulled trans. nice👍🏽

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting the trans and motor to line up without the support would be more difficult for sure. The jack chain makes adjustment easy as well. Sometimes you might want to tilt the motor back a tad. Thanks for watching!

    Hey brother. I know this video is a little older, but I’ve watched it a few times. My question is how hard was this to do on jack stands? I see the highest I can get it off the ground on jack stands is like 18”. Did you use a creeper?

    Is it a Lacquer Spray-painted clutch or what type of paint did they use to make it look reddish?

    15:30 is that a group N trans mount?

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the Torque Solution trans mount. It may be a bit stiffer than the group N mounts. I dont have any experience with them. Either is an improvement over the stock wrx mounts. lol. They are an easy install. I'll edit my install video and post it next.

      Thank you for checking it out. I think you had another comment but I dont see it now.? Yes, mating the transmission
      back to the engine is a pain. A helper would have been helpful... lol. As for the clutch, no problems and performs as
      expected. I think most DIY car people with a decent set of tools can do this job. It's just not an easy or short job...
      well at least when I do it. Ha. Good luck with your install!

    Gonna be doing the same with my 2006 subaru sti. Had subaru only shop replce oem clutch about 2 years ago with an Exedy stage 1 clutch kit, they changed me $1800 . Too much in my opinion. Will attempt to do myself. 69 retired, bum back, arthritis hands, plus diabetic. No worries, all good. Oem clutch kit or aftermarket I haven't decided yet. God bless America

      Not gonna lie... it's a serious job but definitely a job a guy can do at home. Even better with a hand.
      For aches and pains... One thing I do when working under the car is use double reflective insulation to lay on. It comes in rolls and you can cut it to size. It's like bubble wrap but holds up to being used as a mat to put under the car.
      Good luck with your project!

    How did you know what side of the clutch goes where

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. When looking at the clutch disk, you will notice that the compression springs are protruding a bit from the disk face on one side. While being nearly flush on the other. This side goes to the flywheel. The springs will face the pressure plate. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

    great video but seems like it might be easier to just pop the engine out.. Some other videos on here thats how they do it

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably yes... versus working under the car. I'd consider that route in the future.
      Still, it's definitely doable dropping the transmission while working on jack stands and blocks. Just get car up as high as you can safely.
      Thanks for watching

    How do you like your hks coilovers?

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After a couple of years on them, they have been great. I debated getting the adjustable top hats but went
      with the solid plates. One less thing for me to screw up. lol Camber hasnt been an issue for the fronts.
      The ride is stiffer than stock but not crazy. The car felt tighter after the install and inputs seemed quicker.
      Not by leaps and bounds but a noticeable improvement over stock. I'd consider HKS for sure if your looking
      for coil overs. They have been upgraded since I bought mine.
      If lowering the car is your goal.. springs may be the way to go.

    How did you remove the transmission and engine?

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once everything is removed, you get under the car and rock the trans, up down, side to side using the jack. It should start to separate at the top. The gap will be small, you'll have to wedge something in there to help. There is a section of the video where I talk about this. Once it starts to open, get back under the car and rock the trans again. Hopefully the gap is big enough to get a prybar in there and around the sides of the trans from under the car. You just repeat this process till it finally breaks free. You want to be careful not to gouge the block or trans with your prying tools. It's helpful to PB Blast the alignment pins before starting. Thank you for watching!

      The engine is rocking with the tranny

    • @zoycogarage1780
      @zoycogarage1780  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it will move with it. At this point, I then took a small prybar and lightly knocked the edge into the gap. It's maybe a 16th' of a gap. I did this along the top and with the bar still in the gap, I went and shook it again. Then back up top and repeat. The gap will slowly increase and then you can use a bigger wedge. It's a bit a work to do. Eventually you can work the bar from under the car. Don't forget to secure the motor before you remove the trans. Once the weight is off, it'll tilt forward. Keep at it!
