This ACT clutch arrived today. Looks to be a quality product. The video is very helpfull! 3hrs into the job and just about to pull out the transmission. I'd much rather get the experience, but would prefer something as absolutely accurate as possible. Great work by the way. Seems well explained and simplified. Keep it up!
While the vehicle shown in the video is a 2014, the installation should be very similar on the 2017 model. Since the chassis was redesigned (2015 and newer models) some of the accessory locations may be different, but the overall process should be very similar.
@@AdvancedClutchTechnology major difference to watch out for is the timing plate sandwiched between the flywheel and the engine. It can fall off during removal but it only goes on one way. Pay attention!
Not much, just enough to slide the transmission out, about foot and 1/2. I used a transmission floor jack to lower it, then moved it to some cardboard to clear the front end.
Hello! Thanks for your question! This installation is actually our upgraded conversion kit which (among other improvements to the design) we have increased the overall diameter from the standard 230mm WRX clutch disc to a 240mm clutch disc which in turn increases the overall holding capacity of the clutch. If you would like to learn more about our design philosophy or products please visit our website at www.Advancedclutch.com or by contacting our Customer Service Team at (661) 940 - 7555 Thanks!
I don’t understand why you guys took out the axles just to change the clutch assembly some of the things seemed useless but hey every tech does their own thing right?
Does anyone else get pedal shaking back with this clutch on wrx 2017 ? Make loud spring or fluid traveling. Only sound while high rpm’s or when in gear n downshift like if there’s pressure in the lines ? Never did it with stock . Mechanic said . Maybe bc car doesn’t make enough power but then recommend a stage 3 clutch?
My mechanic said when he does clutch replacements he just takes the engine out. I figure I'll save up and get a new turbo and intercooler too since it shouldn't add much to the labor cost to do it while the engine is out when doing the clutch.
I am trying to install my 2015 STI transmission but it will not connect close enough to put on the nuts and bolts. Any suggestion to getting the transmission on?
my350z916 The bolts supplied with the ACT kit used in the video are 8mm (the bolt head is larger) grade 10.9 bolts. These bolts are rated to safely handle the 26 lb-ft used to tighten them and should not snap off until closer to 40 lb-ft. We’d recommend checking the calibration of your torque wrench and can supply you with a new set of pressure plate bolts if needed.
If you have a WRX make sure all bolts are out of the bell housing. If the trans still will not come out it is probably stuck on the dowel alignment pins. If this is the case use a pry bar and carefully work the transmission off of the pins. If you have an STI make sure the release bearing is unclipped from the pressure plate.

Some people say remove the motor leave trans in to do clutch, but I think I'm going to try it this way I just purchased the clutch flywheel combo for my 2017 is there any other things I need to know being a 17 over the 14
Our personal opinion. It is less time consuming to remove the transmission. 2006 - 2017 are pretty much all the same when it comes to replacing the clutch.
Besides a basic set of tools you will need a punch, large socket and pry bar for the cv axle. Some tools needed: floor jack, jack stands, oil receptacle, punch, Hammer, regular and deep socket set, extensions, screwdrivers. Ratcheting wrenches will make the job faster but regular boxed end set will work just fine. Hope that helps!
@@AdvancedClutchTechnology hey I'm having trouble removing the upper engine mount. It has two bolts and when I try to unbolt one the other twists with it. What do I do?
i have a 2015 honda civic si sedan and would like to know which clutch kit is best for me? I have looked up this one on your site AR2-HDSS - HD/Perf Street Sprung will this handle the torque if i supercharged my si? Also, i want an OEM feel and little to no noise. Please let me know thanks
Hello,Yes, the AR2-HDSS (www.advancedclutch.com/ar2-hdss) is the correct clutch kit for your application. I am unsure of the amount of torque the vehicle will make with the supercharger you are planning to install, but this clutch kit should be able to hold the power with some bolt on modifications and a mild tune. This clutch is rated for 255 ft. lbs. of torque to the crank. If you are planning on making more power than 255 ft. lbs., but would still like to keep the OEM style engagement quality then I would suggest the AR2-XTSS (www.advancedclutch.com/ar2-xtss). This clutch is rated for 340 ft. lbs. of torque to the crank. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding your application feel free to email our customer service staff at sales@advancedclutch.com. Thank you for considering ACT products for your vehicle. Have a great day.
So the only difference between these 2 clutch kits is the torque rating they can handle, correct? Does the AR2-XTSS have smooth engagement with little to mild pedal effort? I do not want a stiff clutch, or noisy clutch. I want it to be close to OEM as possible but at the same time able to hold the power of a supercharger. I would like to produce 400 hp one day with a supercharger.
The AR2-XTSS will have more pedal effort than the AR2-HDSS. The difference between the 2 kits is the amount of clamping force of the pressure plates. The rest of the kit components are the same. If you do not feel the supercharger would exceed the 255 ft. lbs. of torque to the crank that the AR2-HDSS can hold then that is the kit I would suggest.
We are not sure of the cost however AllData lists 6.8 hours for the labor time. That is for the clutch and flywheel combined. Keep in mind its an average and some shops may need less time. Definitely worth calling around to some local shops. At least it gives you a baseline.
I have a question, if I was to install my new clutch, should I also change my flywheel? And if so, can my Exedy Stage 2 Clutch be compatible with your ACT Streetlife Flywheel?
Thank you for your interest in ACT products. The current product in this video is a conversion kit that requires the use of our flywheel and clutch kit. We do offer a streetlite flywheel that works with the OEM clutch kit. The part number is 600480: www.advancedclutch.com/600480. If the Exedy stage 2 clutch kit you are running will work with the factory flywheel it should work with ours. We do not have 100% guarantee that it will work since we do not test our products with any other manufacturers, but I do not see any reason it won’t. Please email our sales department at sales@advancedclutch.com if you have any additional questions.
On the WRX you can leave the clutch fork with bearing on your transmission for removal. If you have an STI you will need to unclip the bearing before you can separate the transmission.

IVE GOT AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION NOT WANTING TO CONNECT ALL THE WAY. SO WE BOLTED IT AROUND AND IT ENDED UP CONNECTING AND I HAVE IT INSTALLED I HAVE YET TO START IT
Just watched a video on that on Boostaholics channel. It could potentially be about the same time wise. There are way more things to take apart on the engine side where potential problems could arise after replacing the engine. If you don't have access to a lift it may be easier to remove engine. Though I doubt many people have access to an engine hoist. Here's a tip...... Have a shop do head gaskets and reseal while engine is out. While its out have performance parts installed with free labor. No better opportunity.
A friend of mine just replaced his clutch with one of these clutches but it was the SB11HDSS like mine. He said that the pressure plate torque spec in this video is wrong. I have the same clutch and torqued it to 26 ft lbs just like in the video, but he said it is 50 ft lbs when it's the SB11HDSS. Is he correct or should I take my trans put to torque them higher? Or is 26 ft lbs enough? Can I just remove the starter to get access to one bolt at a time? Thanks
The pressure plate to flywheel bolts are 8mm X 1.25mm X 16mm in size and we recommend that they be torqued to no more than 26 Ft-Lbs. Even though they are a 10.9 grade high tensile bolt, If they are torqued down to a higher torque rating such as 50 Ft-lbs. (which is almost twice the recommended torque), they can stretch which will weaken their retention capability and possibly even break which can cause many other issues such as the clutch not to disengage, clutch component damage and even the possibility of bellhousing or even transmission damage. Just as a note, any issues or damage resulting from incorrect installation, including the improper torque of fasteners, are not covered under our warranty.
So, judging by the length of this video it should take no longer than 15 mins right?
