    I went from using my phone for GPS to a Zumo XT. Most phones aren't waterproof and I actually have had battery issues and overheating issues with my phone when on tour. Zumo XT is the way to go.

    On Cardo Packtalk you can still have turn by turn voice commands whilst listening to music but you can prioritise music or nav commands, really good. I'm interested to see and hear what happens with your Nav6 Mark, mine after three years and maybe 37k miles has started playing up. Nice bike Toby, I too like the Rally and may have one next year.
    Keep up the good work chaps, one of the only channels worth watching.

  • @TheDervMan
    @TheDervMan ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only downside of using the BMW bike comms is you can’t use the various intercom apps. For example if I pair my phone to the bike I can’t use the Cardo app to change mesh groups. I ended up using two phones as that meant I could use the connected app. That become a faff so I no longer use the connected app. Which surprises me as I’m a right geek 😂 but it’s tech for techs sake. Plus if you move away from a bmw bike you won’t be able to access your recorded rides. I now stick with Scenic.

    Nice new bike Toby, congratulations. Just tried your indicator trick on my 2021 GSA and I don't have that option in the menu so must be new for '22. As an aside I've just fitted Weiser Technik indicators to mine which cure all the woes of the BMW multifunction setup. Now have white LED's in the front indicators as DRL's which switch off when you indicate on the side you're turning. Rear ones the red tail/brake light also goes out on the side your indicating. Much better/safer setup, if a bit pricey. Carl at 'Just the Way it is' TH-cam channel has a couple of great videos on them you may want to check out.

    NAV 6 I had 4 replacements in 2 years the thing is absolutely garbage. Eventually got in contact with a guy in Germany who modified the screen to eliminate the recurring faults. Cost was 200 euro so not cheap, but it was that or throw it in the bin, and when it does work it's superb. Anyway sent it off had it done, been using it a year now 20000 miles and it hasn't missed a beat.

    I too have changed my bike from my GS1250 and gone back in time to a 2016 F800GT... You can get GS stickers for your tank on eBay or your local BMW dealership have them. I had heard about the LEDs and bike coming with bulbs fitted, looks like we will both have to get used to that again.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      if your bike has come with bulbs and it was new, BMW will change them for you with a voucher that they provide when the LED's are available

  • @TheDervMan

    You can only control music volume via the Whizzy Wheel with the BMW Intercom. I use “Cardo volume up/down” voice command and that works well for me.

    • @RiderCamTV

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah it's a bit off to not look after customers first before new bikes, but I guess its a chicken and egg thing, if they put the LED's only on existing customers bikes, they would be forever trying to catch up, but it is frustrating that we only have the bulbs for the time being, although apparently they should be getting to dealers in January ish, crossed fingers :)

    Looking forward to the nav 6 update guys...let me guess the display has suffered from the well known ghosting issue where it stops working and jumps around the map. I had 3 of them and gave up and went back to a nav 5, it does everything I need in a basic sat nav and I can still use the whizz wheel. I might consider the new connected cradle in time. I also have the tft/ phone connection set up the same as Toby but works all good with the cardo packtalk and an android phone.

    Great vid and all very valid comments. I was surprised that my (new to me) RS with every option ticked has bulbs too but for similar reasons. Mine’s a 2018 but even then leds were apparently in short supply. I found little difference between the navi 5 and navi 6. If someone gas the 5 it’s not worth upgrading to the 6.
    Biggest improvement imho between last of the 1200’s and newer 1250’s isn’t the engine imho, it’s the dynamic esa. My 2016 GSA was better than the 2018RS (more adjustment settings) but the newer auto dynamic esa in active mode is so much better than the basic and underdamped dynamic esa of the 2018 bike. I have to keep mine in dynamic mode all the time to get an acceptable damping rate.
    TFT I think like many over complicates things and takes too much attention iff the road. I wont use the phone when riding nor mess with music. Concentration has to be on the road unless stopped.
    Tried the bmw connected app and didn’t like it. For the screen I found the MRA vario-x was by far the best. Givi hand guards are great but very spendy. Will be fitting grip puppies. Makes long stints riding way mote comfortable on hands and helps prevent heated grips burning your palms off😂
    Worth adding the rugged roads centre plate bash-guard under centre stand.

    Congrats on the new bike. I ordered the Trophy and it came into the dealers yesterday but rejected it as it wasn't configured as ordered, bummer. I have to go to the back of the ordering Q now with a new order. Did you think of using the BMW Connected Ride Cradle (Smartphone Holder) instead of the Sat Nav? I have used a Tom Tom for a while now and didn't want to change and purchased a BMW cradle to Tom Tom convertor from Italy, 3D printed and great value.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks buddy for the kind words. I thought about the cradle but I prefer to have a device (Sat Nav) that just does one job and keep my phone in my pocket. Ive seen too many phone overheat on tours etc and my life is on my phone..... eek! Would make a quieter life though 🤣
