This video was so amazing that my girlfriend just fell asleep watching it with me. Thanks so much for the brief moment of peace and quiet and so I can go eat my Captain Crunch cereal without her judging me.
@@umakantgajjewar8898 She says I’m just saying random letters and numbers as I name bikes that ride by on the road so I’m not sure she even knows BMW makes bikes 😅
Just a small correction on the story; GS stands for Gelände-Strasse, where Gelände means off road and Strasse means road. Fun fact; Laverda did a large portion of the development of the r80GS!
Love my GS Adventure and have been to the West coast BMW School at RawHyde. I took my brand new 2022 GSA to the school and rode it for the class instead of renting. I dropped it many times, and by drop, I mean crash. I returned from the school having ridden there and back, with a sense of accomplishment, and yes pride, but that machine just worked and albeit I’ve got a few scratches - amazing. On a side note I tipped over my Multistrada in a parking lot once for a whopping $3800 in damage. Great video, thanks for being a good human.
Love this video. I had a 2007 BMW1200GS. IT was the only vehicle i owned for 2 years. It was and is an amazing bike. I had them opportunity to take a trip. Trailer out to Reno, then California, north to Oregon, idaho, Montana, ND, SD, COLORADO and Wyoming. This trip changed me. I understood depend on the motorcycle, it failed to start once at 19 degrees. Once i got it out of the shed, and it warmed up to 33 started RIGHT UP.. GOT IT AT 8 miles, sold it at 44,200. Sad day. Bought a 2009 used F 650GS
Great Review I had the Paris Dakar GS80 Still have my R100 R 25 years later. Fully restored now. Had a GS 1200 Then a GS 1200 Adv Now the GS 1250 Adv I tried one for a couple of days and had to upgrade. The difference is incredible. Power delivery and flexibility at all speeds are exceptional, and totally different to the previous models, even when fully loaded with boxes, bags and passenger. The bike does not argue at all. The balance is phenomenal. A buddy who rode it kept saying he couldn’t believe how light it felt. Just crossed Spain to Portugal and back, and it’s true, traffic jams don’t exist! I call it “Enduro de Carretera” - Enduro for the highway.
GS is an abbreviation of Gelande-Strasse which means On-Road /Off-Road as probably some fellows would have corrected in the comments below. Fun how many motorcycles fan or even expert would still relate the S to Sport though the GS is not a sport bike lol. Maybe because it is a BMW Motorcycle :). Hill-start control is an amazing feature, all what you need to do is to compress the front brake or rear brake after you stop on a slope and the letter H will appear on your TFT now you take your foot off the brake pedal and your hand off the front brake lever , and the bike won't slide and inch backwards nor downwards. Very handy when I am on my driveway reaching for the garage door or need both hands or both feet . It took me sometimes to get used to it , as I didn't trust that the bike would not roll lol. Anyhow , great video !!
First time I drove an adventure bike, it was a GS1200. This was during a bike trip around Portugal with my wife, celebrating our 25th anniversary. It was a big intimidating bike the day I picked it up. Day one we were coming down a beautiful twisty mountain road, at the bottom I pulled over and got a smack off the back of my helmut. Wife claimed I flew down the mountain and that I was flying through the turns. I hadn't notice this because it was so smooth. I was instantly sold on the adventure bike and loved the GS. When we returned back home the first thing I did was sell my 2 cruisers and bought a 2017 Yamaha Tenere. 'Loved the GS and would have bought one but I love having money in my pocket to do bike trips instead.' We've had the Tenere for 5 years now and have done many trips in to the US, we have driven from the East Coast of Canada to the West Coast of the US on this bike. Wife and I have a trip coming up this summer, flying into Vegas renting a GS and riding up to Utah and exploring that state for 2 weeks. When ever I can't bring my bike (time constraints) I now rent a GS.
@@lackingpoint I still own my 2017 Super Tenere ES (Desert beige color scheme) alongside my GS1250 because my wife loves it better since it offers almost two inches more of cockpit space for the two of us, making it more comfortable two up.
He's right about everything he's saying about it. I'm 5'6", 140 lbs and I found this bike super easy to ride, super nimble, not too tall, soooo much fun, my absolute dream bike. I can't wait to own one someday, I dream about it everyday.
I’ve had my 16 model gsa for a year. Woke up at 4:30 on to do 120 mile trip for a bagel before having to work a 12 hour shift. Only issue with the gs in my opinion is it makes every other motorcycle sub-par.
lol. And wrong. It's good. It's not the best. There are better road going adv bikes and better off roading adv bikes. The GS is a good all rounder but it's not superior. And there are lot of factors and metrics that say so.
@@monunyabidness5949 it's literally the best adventure bike you can get and has ben so for very long time. don't mather if sombody does a better road going bike or a better offroad bike. a adventure bike does both well not just one perfectly and there is no other adventure bike that does adventures as good as the bmw.
Since I ride 100% on road, I bought the RT. They are awesome bikes. Love all the tech and comfort features. Best bike I've ever owned and I've been riding over 20 years.
I bought an S1000XR M Sport. I also ride 100% on road. RT is also a great machine. While I agree GS is one of the best all purpose bikes, if you are more focused on a particular terrain (on-road / off-road/ trails etc) there are better bikes out there.
Hello, cool video! Thumbs up. I'm a biker girl from Germany. My husband drives the R1150GS and the R1250GS as ADV version, which is a bit bigger and heavier, and I drive the R1250RS. However, I have to ask a question. Why do you leave the key in the GPS lock? You will lose the key!! Keep it in your jackets breast pocket. The lock is only there to lock the GPS navigation module firmly. Only as protection against theft.
My Son gave me his 2013 BMW R1200GSA. 1st adventure bike 1st BMW. I absolutely love love love this machine. I'm a super sport super fast motorcycle rider. Once you have a R1200GS R1250GS you realize how amazing this machine has evolved into. It does everything and in my opinion is amazing off road and pavement. Its flawless piece of engineering. And that's from a motorcycle technician opinion. 2 up it's the best. 2nd gear power stands thru 3rd gear to 70mph is awesome and can do 2up! Suspension is amazing. Recommend hyper pro suspension kit from and rear shocks. Plus 1 free rebuilding. Also. Michelin anakee adventures are absolutely amazing 70/30 And for the hardcore off road Michelin anakee Wilds 50/50 knobbys this motorcycle Rules the dirt gravel roads as well as the pavement! I put 11,000 miles in 7 months and alot of dirt roads 2up.. and its Seriously fast in the dirt..100% in agreement with everything you stated. If I was to choose 1 motorcycle. BMW R1200GS /R1250GS With Michelin anakee Wilds! You can not imagine how amazing this machine is until you ride or own one... and once you own one. You will NEVER SELL IT. you will most likely will it to your grandchildren.. I will Never sell mine. I don't care how much you offer me. It's a love and respect relationship like no other motorcycle. I'm a retired motorcycle technician and rider of 55 years. I've ridden everything. I own Ducati's Triumph and My BMW. Best motorcycle. Respectfully Mr Nobody
The R1200GS has been a world-wide best seller since 2007 or a couple of years after Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman did some epic road trips with it; glad you came around it...the one item that was overlooked and makes this motorcycle truly a step ahead of the curve is the front telelever that both on and off road gives the rider the feeling of riding a very nimble 650cc.
Wow, so many great memories. Owned the first fully kitted BMW GS 1150 ADV in the UK back 2002. Put on over 65,00 miles on the clock by 2006.Travelled around Europe and Gibraltar a few times, bike was my best friend and never failed me!
I did the offroad class at BMW this year…its amazing. I can confirm I dropped the 1250 Adventure 5 out of 6 attempts through the gravel pit…its indestructible. Everyone should take that course, its so much fun. I love my 1250 too
Amazing bike. On this day 3 years ago exactly. I hit a 60 kg Warthog at 100kph. I walked away ( albeit a broken big toe) & did another 10 000 km before arriving home & calling my insurance. This was the best demo of the double decker bus I've seen so far. Well done..
A paramount but rarely mentioned performance feature of the GS1250 is its Saxon-Motodd(Telelever) front suspension. It is the principle reason it handles off road as well as it does despite its 600lb weight. I owned an early 90's R1100 S with the Telelever front suspension. Its total lack of brake-dive and bump steer along with its 120,000 miles of service before requiring any maintenance makes it stand out further than any multitunable, multi-valved, anti-dive inverted telescopic fork ever offered IMHO.
Owning a '19 HP myself, there are some additional improvements to the standard GS. It has the GSA's higher suspension, and the wider footpegs. It's a great bike indeed.
You will hear comments like: "GS riders only go to coffee shop, nyuk, nyuk" Sure, they'll get up early just ride 150 miles to get giant cinnamon roll, then do a 300 mile loop before arriving home.
nice video, I have a 2019 GSA HP. I like the extra fuel capacity. And I went to the BMW performance center and did the two day on road course, very good. I love mine, I've had it for about three years and hope to keep it for as long as I ride. I do have one suggestion that you didn't seem to mention is the quick shifter. Once you get tuned in to using it you can blow through the gears like nobody's business.
I recently bought a 2003 R1200CL and I have to say I love the bike, especially the styling and the blue color. It's one of the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden. If I didn't have to stop for gas, I feel like I could just keep going.
This is the only bike I wish I got instead of the Triumph Tiger XCa 1200. Every time I've dropped it a lever breaks, which sucks. Barely dropped it once in slow motion in soft sand and it STILL broke a lever. But you're right these adv bikes start to feel small and comfortable, especially on road. Took it to Dragon's Tail and was stupid comfortable flicking it around the twisties.
I have a 2014 F800gs, it's such an extremely capable and comfortable motorcycle. I think the older 800s are probably a bit more capable than the newer 850s. It's quite a bit lighter than both at 450lbs wet, but only makes slightly less power than the 850 at 85hp/61tq, but the 800 has a better power to weight ratio overall. With the 21 inch front wheel, it feels like a really big dirt bike in the dirt, but is still excellent on the road as well.
I have the same bike same year in blue. The f850gs really fell short of the mark. Even the crf1100l is lighter and holds more fuel. I guess a TFT dash would be nice. But 229kg 15 litre tank and a Chinese engine !
That save at the end was amazing, lol. I have a 2014 1200 gs. It's comfortable, not heavy, it can fall many times and it literally not having a scratch on it, but slow over 140 km/h. Under that speed, it probably can take a 600, and a 750 too, the torque is immense, but power not so much. I think the 1250 improved that a lot and now it pushes all the way.
I have a 2015 R1200Gs and raced my brother's 1997 CBR 600 a few times but lost at almost every speed range except for 0 - 70 km/h or so. The GS's feel very fast cause of the toruq, but aren't actually that quick.
A better option is like i have it. GSXR 600 for long distance, ktm 300 exc tpi for the woods. Ducati Scrambler for popping around the town :D For real the gs is old mans bike that think he gonna do those crazy adventures but actually just puddles around town once a year. Probably a great bike, but like he said. It basically suck on everything. When i get older i probably buy one :D
@@Xfacehack Very obvious you haven't owned a GS. It is great at literally everything. I take mine offroad at least once a month. I daily drive a GS and regularly take high sidewalks and grassfields that regular bikes/cars wouild not be able to cross. The reason why so many old people have the GS cause apart from its capabilities it is extremely comfortable and easy to ride. It is the bike that fits literally everyone unless you're under 1.70m
@@semvv8638 I agree, there's a reason it's used by hospitals as an emergency organ transport across a city even if it's a huge bike. Its torque and maneuverability make the GS one of the easiest and most comfortable bikes to handle in a city, even if it weights close to 300 kg. It surprised me how comfortable it is in the city.
Bought a new BMW R1200GSA in 2009 with all the bells and whistles and after five years and 76,000 miles I suffered the following: 3 final drive bearing failures; 1 final drive housing bearing; 2 sets of main stand bolts (they sheared in half); LH heated grip; N/S/R LED indicator; Front engine oil leak; Front suspension lower ball joint; 2-3 headlight bulbs per year. Loved riding it but just couldn't trust it when touring Europe and no, it was never off roaded apart from camp sites and such. Replaced it with a Honda ST1300 and also kept it for 5 years suffering the following: Err, um, nothing. That's it. Sorry BMW, love the ride but not the failures. (My local Harley dealer was also fed up with the warranty claims NTM ever increasing sales targets so ditched the brand.)
This is the exact reason I went back to the Japanese. I hooked up too on that huge BMW hype so I bought a R1250R (I never go off road). After a huge disappointment of reliability and service cost I sold it very quickly and bought a Yamaha as I always did before. Since then my money stays in my pocket.
That's because BMW buys from the lowest bidder and you'll never know which parts do you have on your bike. It could be a shitty part barely to specifications and you never know. Other makers slowly evolve their bikes and you know that if the bike is over some VIN and/or after a recall, the whatever problem it had, it is solved. Not by BMW. My friend was once doing a rehaul on his engine and he tried 5 NEW pistons until they delivered ones that were to specification for ovality. Absolutely terrible. As far as I know, GS is not the best but the most overrated bike in the world.
i have this exact bike same color, same rallye seat etc in 2020, its hard to look at any other bike, because this bike handles insanely well. it takes the curves insanely well, loves to lean, grips well even in my 50/50 tires. often times my friends actualy slow me down when we reach the tight twisties, i outhandle them and im on 50/50 tires. offroad its surprisingly well, your completely right, its the riders skill. thanks for this vid
Big ask for the comments section here…can someone please let me know what the width of a new 1250 GSA is across the engine guards/crash bars at the widest point? I know what the handlebars are but I’m worried about being able to fit the bike through a 36” gate.
@@eugeniustheodidactus8890 88,000 km in 4 years. Not one issue. I do all the maintenance. I've halved BMW's recommended fluid changes because I believe clean fluids is life.
@@ricoricardo4850 what about the rusty splines(drive shaft) in all the TH-cam videos? Ive been considering getting a BMW bike but all the reliability issues I keep hearing about are preventing me from pulling the trigger. It's between a Moto Guzzi and a Beamer for me...
Goose bumps! Abosoulty LOVE the GSA for touring, camping and go ANYWHERE ability. Hate the associated costs though. When I get rich I'm gonna git me another.
I love mine. I haven't pushed the bike's limits like you have (or dropped it!) but it is quite refreshing to see you do it. You're awesome, Sean, God bless you!
In 1999 my dealer let me have a 1150GS for a whole afternoon for a test ride, and after a few hours on some of my favourite little roads (in the Vosges in France) I was hooked. I've had 2 1150GS's, 2 1200GS Adventures and since 2019 a 1250GS (not Adventure). I agree with everything you say about the on-road handling, the bike is very easy to ride and doesn't feel at all heavy. I'm 6ft2ins and the position is perfect for me. I'm not really an off-road rider but for a few years I had a 1200GSA in Australia and did a bit of off-roading, including the Daintree Track. For a beginner like me the bike seemed very forgiving off-road - and I only dropped it a couple of times.
Took my 'Triple-Black' GS Adventure to the Isle of Man TT 3-times, & two-up, with all the gear, i was passing sports bikes all the time over Snaefell mountain . . . the only limit was its 136mph top speed. I've ridden Japanese Bikes since 1982 (with an odd Italian her & there) . . . . and YES, its the best bike Ive ever owned. I ride mine 300+ days a year . . . . 1OOmph on the M/way for 3hrs - no problem, it do that easy They're expensive to buy - but hold their value, never break down and are cheap to run love it, Love It, LOVE IT
Have a '20 GS1250 rally as well. I resisted the big GS for a long time. The utilitarian look, the lackluster 1200 engine. The 1250 changed everything. I could not lose my buddies on my Multistrada anymore. The suspension/telelever/comfort/wind protection/easy valve adjust/performance/handling/shaft drive, wow. I'll never look back!
Can confirm the GS is a beast. I t-boned a corolla (driver failed to give way) and wrote it the car off. The GS came off with only a snapped indicator.
I will definitely be supporting “today’s sponsor “. Very informative video from 2-season, new rider. FYI…I’ve be DEVOURING TH-cam videos to learn about everything motorcycles AND viewers need LESS GoPro/rider view videos….far less. 90% of GoPro/rider view content is unnecessary BUT the content talked about during these segments is often valuable. Love your channel…keep up the good work!
My 1200GSA completely eclipsed my Harley Ultra as a touring bike. It was far more comfortable on the really long day after day rides. Definitely will be going for the 1250 next season. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Hi from New Zealand. I have the 40th anniversary gsa. This motor cycle is crazy good. I'm 57 and have had many other bikes in my life. Like you have said if you can only have one bike, this is it. Its pure luxury in all conditons. God I love it.
@@LordoftheEagles I have the same year 650GS. Love its performance offroad and is so nimble off road. Honestly prefer it over the 1250GS, even though I love the raw power of those boxers.
@@Galf506 yea if I cared enough it would've made a great Sumo being so balanced. The motor was great. I'd still have it but I buckled under the inflation pressure and sold it. So yes I wound up owning it for free other than interest and maintenance for 2 years
Hello Sean. Actually The HP model has been tuned for more power and the suspension is improved and 2 inches higher than the standard R1250GS. I have both of them. Love your show. Ride safe Brother.
I loved r80gs. I rode r900 and had gs800 out corner me, which my friends was amazing. I dragged the value covers of the 900 in corners. The 800 had enough height making it good on rode and off road.
The R1250GS has a quick-shifter (Shift Assist Pro). The next time you're doing one of those 0-60 pulls, don't use the clutch. Keep the throttle pinned and slam the shifter up. Shift Assist Pro will cut power so the shift can complete without engaging the clutch. It works the same on downshifts. Close the throttle, bang a downshift. Shift Assist Pro will automatically blip the throttle to rev match for the downshift.
I have to say, this is one of the best riding, and most comfortable bikes I’ve ever ridden. Now if I could just get past the looks of it(subjective,)I’d buy one. Thanks for the review.👍🏻
I mostly ride it on road but it is very capable off road as well. ON the road, its as good a tourer as anything out there. Very comfortable, powerful enough, great ride, handles way better than it should and carries everything.
A friend of mine owns a Vstrom 1050 and no joke he makes dragging knee on that bike look effortless 😂. Nobody expects an adventure bike to go that fast in the twisties
To use the hill start assist just squeeze the front brake hard when you're stopped. It'll automatically let go once you start going forward or you can turn it off the same way you turn it on, just give the front lever a hard squeeze.
OMG, I just bought a 1250 GS too :). I had a 650 GS and had convinced myself that I didn't need the behemoth, until my friend convinced me to throw a leg over one at the dealership. I was blown away at how nimble it felt for how large it is.
Hey Rick…do you happen to know what the width of a new 1250 GSA is across the engine guards/crash bars at the widest point? I know what the handlebars are but I’m worried about being able to fit the bike through a 36” gate. Thanks so much for possibly helping a stranger on the internet!
@@NeuroticLobster Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but the touratech crash bars on my bike are about 34" wide at their widest point. The handlebars actually stick out a couple inches past the heads.
@@russianrick8403 No problem Rick! I got the dealership to let me take the bike and ride it around all day and I went to see if it would fit. It fit, I bought it.
I sold my '19 Speed Triple RS and my '03 RC51 and bought a brand new fully kitted out 2021 1250GS Rallye last year and it's the best bike I've ever owned and best decision I've ever made as a rider. My fiance is very pleased with the GS too. It's much more comfortable for both of us than the Speedy was, that's for sure! And it is still plenty quick and nimble for those solo back country rides. If we didn't just buy our house I would still be looking for a new dedicated track bike though. In due time... The only downside was the jaw dropping price tag!
I wasn't expecting the Sponsor section. Simply the best part of the video! I totally agree that's the best sponsor you can have! He also sponsors my dreams so we should ride one day my friend!
NICE!! one of the most honest reviews I've seen! Your opinion means something to me ALSO, really appreciate you reminding me to thank God every time I get on a bike!! I've been little intimidated by these Bimmers. . But now I'm wondering if this might actually be the next bike I graduate to? Always appreciated the history they've brought to the ADV world. So far my bike history is the following: Suzuki T100 Yamaha Virago Suzuki dr350s KLR 650 ( loved that one) Triumph Tiger 800xc ( current ride) BMW 1250gs? ? ? Thanks for what you do SRK. Love the channel.
Truly great bikes and they should be for the massive price premium to purchase and to own. For the vast majority of us however (and financially wise), beyond our budgets. I enjoyed my 1150 GS very much but I enjoy my 1st Gen Super Tenere even more. Btw, those boxer engine guards do a remarkably good job at simultaneously protecting the engine and breaking ankle bones. Don’t ask me how I know.
I own the naked roadster brother of this 1250GS, a ‘20 R1250R, and agree that it’s a heckuva engine, one complemented by excellent ergos, performance, tech, and fit-and-finish. I can’t imagine a better all-around package…it’s certainly the best bike I’ve ever owned.
Hey Stkcycles. Thanks for the review. Another reason for me to further appreciate my GS 850. After having it for two years I habve grown to appreciate how forgiving it is at realized how much it wants to go off road.
I own a 2012 BMW R1200R Classic. It's basically a wonderful performance hot rod. But it also has ESA Telelever Paralever wire wheels and so it's very capable off road. Not the full GS but easily negotiate a muddy track. Or cross a continent. And so while most of my riding is on the Indian at present the BMW is another dimension. An exquisite very capable motorcycle with a brilliant build quality. Great review
Hey Sean, great review. One other feature of the HP version, in addition to the color scheme, is the suspension, which I believe is similar to the Adv version. Also, make sure you lube the rear spline on this as they can dry out and rust pretty easily. Loads of videos on TH-cam that show you how. I love the HP and plan on keeping it for years.
I own a 05 1200GS with extremely low miles and it's a great bike. I want a 1250 but I'm retired and can't afford it, but I still want one. Thanks for the video
Got to be honest, never love BMWs always been a Norton and Triumph, like the Norton Internationals and the Triumph Tiger Cups. never owned one but friends have and I have ridden them. the good old days when it was easy to work and fix your bikes, not like today, its all computers and fancy electrics. Blimey, I'm getting old lol. Anyway thanks for the show guys.
Couple of things. It’s gelande “strasse” not sport. Also, when you start it you might consider letting the self test finish first. That will be complete when the TFT finishes cycling through to the main screen. You obviously don’t have to, for it to start, but it’s a good idea.
The new 1300GS’s and 1400GS’s are going to dominate when they come out next year. The 1250GS is King! The is down right the BEST bike I have ever ridden. Go and ride one before you discount it, you will not be sorry you did. It is super comfortable, has awesome tech and plenty of power. Great vid!
Love the channel. Your faith is also super inspiring! Ive never owned a bike but I hope so one day soon. Been binge watching your vids to catch up with the culture!
I absolutely love the GS1200/ 1250 series BMWs. They are incredible bikes. Anytime I see a GS fully kitted out with crash bars, lights and boxes, the rider looks like they've just come from the other side of the world in one sitting. Even if it's spotlessly clean. Even better when it's bedecked with stickers and the riders jacket and pants are dirty.
I have everything from triumph tiger to fire blades and i have to say my GS is the master of all. Keeps up with sports bikes on the twisty's and so comfy, still manages to lift the front when it wants. Love it
I have a 2018 GSA 1200, it's my 4th BMW and 3rd Boxer (the other being a k1600 gt). The GSA is the best of them by far. The only people I hear that don't rate them are people who haven't ridden it. Does yours not have gearshift pro / assist? It would take your 0-60 time down significantly. It's amazing.
I went for the 2022 Africa Twin AS-ES w/DCT. Having a Honda dealer 10 minutes away rather than 2 hours away was a big factor in my decision. I have a friend who just sold his 2007 1200GS because of the frequency and expense of ECU failures. Apparently once the onboard computer dies on the GS you're SOL, as the Germans aren't big on having spare part supplies for older bikes.
None so far. The AS-ES w/DCT is about 50-lb. heavier than the base model. So you'll have to decide if the extra features are worth the extra weight and price. That will depend on if you're running mostly pavement or mostly off-road. If mostly off-road I'd def get the lighter bike. Otherwise, it's Honda quality through and through--just as advertised.
@@timmoore6656 Absolutely no regrets and def keeping it. It's a perfect bike for my height and weight (I can easily flat-foot even with seat in high position) Riding a BDR this year is on my to-do list.
Aren’t all liquid cooled engines air cooled as well? Coolant goes through the radiator. Air cools the radiator. Seems a weird thing to point out as a spec.
Cool thanks for admitting you dropped it, that always bruised and it happened a couple of times in the last 10 years for me.. We love that low end Big torque, Like the triumph speed triple I had , now riding an R 1100 S and an R1150R.. Both similar but have thave their little differences.. I just visited the triumph BMW dealer my favorites... the 2 that stood out, the triumph rocket 3 close to $25000 your bike the exacts paint scheme nearly the same price oh my God.. Between the 2 I'd have to say I would go for the triumph rocket 3 due to purpose and just plain radical radical freaking cool factor Have not Riddin either one.... But dream and can imagine the monster torque which is what really turns me on.. Good review Keep having fun out there
I have the F850 GSA as i just passed my test in the UK and also could not afford one, but will be changing next year to one. The F850 GSA is also a awesome bike for $8k less. Has all the same features apart from shaft drive it uses the same panniers as the 1250 so you can swap them over.
@@Scarletsb0y truth. I moved from a 1200GS to and F850GSA. It's a fantastic bike and better off road/green lanes due to its 21" front wheel and ability to change the gearing. The 1250GS is a far better touring and road bike, and it's center of gravity is much lower making it easier to move around at low speeds, but you're not giving up much on road with the 850.
@@Srkcycles ok. I rode it. I can't say what that experience was. Kind love it, kinda really hate it? Different strokes I guess but I can at least see your perspective
Yup gs stands for gellande-strasse. Doesn't matter how you translate it because its name implies that it can be used on or off road equally and without compromise. Gellande is a word which, depending on context can mean, either, "terrain", or "off road"....at the end of the day, translation is always a dark art, and although many similarities exist between English and German, they are different languages with their own nuances, and its always important to keep the intended meaning in mind when translation is required. It's not a perfect world, and there's no perfect translation, but we can all live with something that comes close....as long as the intended meaning survives. Love the channel btw...Great work guys 👍 keep it up 😊
I went from 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XRt to a 2022 BMW GS Adventure. I immediately knew why it was the king of the mountain. Being 6'10" it is the best fitting bike I've ever had. I'll probably never take it off road, those days are long behind me, but for sheer comfort nothing beats it.
I never do comments on any of the hundreds videos that I watch every week, but I had to say it, people that does not agree with everything that you said are the ones that either don’t have the money to pay for it or are too worried about what someone else will say if they buy it. It is the best bike EVER. I have been riding for 21+ years and it is by far the best motorcycle I ever own.
So you have owned every other motorcycle then, right? Ridden every one too, right? I wanted a GS1200 and nearly bought one, but after much deliberation chose the Africa Twin instead. I've since bought 2 more Africa Twins. I love it for what it is, and it's perfect for *my needs.* Even the ergos are spot on for me. I rejected the R1200GS, so, how is it the best bike ever?
@@monunyabidness5949 It is the best bike ever, FOR ME! AGAIN, by far the best motorcycle I EVER OWN. That is exactly why I prefer to never say anything on the comments of videos, because people like you that have enough time to get offended, judge and pic on someone`s else comments turning everything that everyone says in an absolutely pointless discussion. Whatever you keep stating here trying to prove and explain the reasons that you choose another motorcycle (yes, Africa Twin is a great bike) simply does not matter for me AT ALL. Sorry, I have no time for you.
Great review. I own the same bike; 2019 R1250 GS HP, mine has the factory sport (GSA height) suspension. it also has the Tractive Plug and Ride upgraded suspension front and rear, along with a custom built 21" front wheel. It is an absolute blast off road on jeep and forest roads.
Hill start control is fantastic, my K1600 has it. Just pull the front brake lever hard to set it, then release your hand, when you are ready to take off just start releasing the clutch and roll on the throttle and it releases seamlessly. It works as good as the BMW ABS system.
After riding Red for years I'm on my 4th Gen BMW GS...Love em all and they keep getting better. The GSA is perfect for my 90% on-road long distance touring.
Just finishing up fixing up an '07 1200GS. Looking forward to getting it on the road this weekend. Coming from owning a Honda CRF250L Rally, a Triumph TT600, and a Ducati Monster 1200R, this is certainly the heaviest bike that I will have the pleasure of mastering.
Great video. Just getting into bikes! This particular model, is the one I would get for sure. I owned a few BMW cars as well over the years and really really loved them. I am wondering about BMW Bikes compared to BMW Cars: long term reliability - do stupid things break on BMW bikes (oil pan gaskets leaks, electronic failures, plastic parts related to the motor break and more)? Expensive to fix? BMW Bikes have poor resale values like BMW cars? When it came to my BMW cars I put up with these things because I had an extended warranty and really love BMW cars. They drive awesome, smell awesome, feel awesome, sounds awesome and much more.
I had a 2007 R1200GS. What a machine. I learned what low-end torque really means one day when I took it up a long steep dirt hill at just above idle. It chugged up the hill like a tractor. The other enduro bikes had to thrash their way up the hill, on the ragged edge of being out of control.
Your timing is very surprising, I was looking for a new goldwing and couldn't find one near by so yesterday I decided to look at other options and I ended up with the idea of selling my 690 Enduro R and get a GS which will be capable of going the long distances I wanted the goldwing for.
i ride adventure tourers only now. im too old and to broken to ride sports bikes now. my back and wrists hurt just looking at them im sure. adventure tourers are so comfortable and affordable too. doesnt take long to get used to the extra height and balance. they are superb fun to ride all day long
I have a 2013 GSA. I bought it because I liked the look of the bike and the idea of what it could do. I didn't think i'd be able to take advantage of it. I went to the BMW academy in SC last August. Took a 1 day on road and a 1 day off road course. I was just looking to learn some about the bike and gain more confidence in riding it. After all... it's a big intimidating bike. But the bike is so capable and nimble and the instructors are so good that I was doing things by noon that I figured would take me a couple years of riding to get to that level.
I wonder how the Africa Twin stacks up to it? The AT is my dream bike. I decided to start with the T-700 but eventually I'll get my hands on the heavier, road friendly bike of me dreams.
I have one too! Kind of… as I ride asphalt only, I do not need off-road capabilities. And mostly daily rides and on multi-day-tours only a moderate amount of km/day I don’t need touring either. So the naked R1200R is the best bike for me I could imagine. I have it more than one year now, it’s fantastic!
I dropped my gsa on the trail because I was not use to the foot pegs being so grippy. I've learned to lift my foot, not just slide it off. Also I dropped my self but not the bike. I was riding around Hot LA and forgot to hydrate. I member pulling up to park and putting my kickstand down. The next thing I remember is waking up with a bunch of people around me. I had passed out from the heat. bike was fine, the rider not so much.
I had a BMW K750 replaced more parts on it while still under warranty than any other bike I had three speedometer clusters, three controls for the break and turning lights and one for the rad sensor, all while still under warranty My friend had the K 1000 and had the same problem I got rid of mine before the warranty was of, he was told that the 1100 had all the problems solved, three months he got rid of it as having the same problems. BMW seems to be the pick of the draw, few have no problems and others are one thing after another. Hope you got a good one. I did love the bike except way to many visits to the shop for repairs and adjustments. I looked at the KTM 890 but ended up getting the KTM 390 Adventure, more bike than I will ever need at 73 years old and much lighter. When time to change tires take a look at the Dunlop TrailMax Mission great tire for paved, gravel and dirt roads, and some single track. and they last a long time. 10,000 on my KTM and showing very little ware. I also use these tires on my DR 650. the all time true duel sport, good on and off road. There are better ones off road but the DR650 dose bough on and off road. and a great bike for the twisty roads.
Great video, I have the F750GS TE which is heavily modded, but they're such a joy to ride, traded in my street triple 675 before I lost my licence on that yobo bike, this bike I'm happy to cruise on and take offroad, having changed the wheels and suspension.
This video was so amazing that my girlfriend just fell asleep watching it with me. Thanks so much for the brief moment of peace and quiet and so I can go eat my Captain Crunch cereal without her judging me.
When she wakes up for sure you're being yelled at.
OMG dude.. that's hilarious!
Bruh if you can’t eat cereal without being judged, either you need to go to the gym and get shredded or you need a new girlfriend
Ha Ha! :)
I thought you were going to say that she went ahead and bought you a GS as a surprise present for your birthday.
R80 was a very good bike, RT had close to r80 clearance too. Can put the 82 RT on crash bars too won't bump even the mirror LOL!
Just a small correction, gelände means terrain ;) (No offense)
GS stands for ‘German Shepherd’ (-;

Great Review
I had the Paris Dakar GS80
Still have my R100 R 25 years later. Fully restored now.
Had a GS 1200
Then a GS 1200 Adv
Now the GS 1250 Adv
I tried one for a couple of days and had to upgrade.
Super Tenere is probably one of the most underrated bikes.
You are going to have a blast in Utah !
I'm from Vegas and went many times riding/moto camping in UT.
@@lackingpoint I still own my 2017 Super Tenere ES (Desert beige color scheme) alongside my GS1250 because my wife loves it better since it offers almost two inches more of cockpit space for the two of us, making it more comfortable two up.
That’s a good way to experience GS. I think I may want to rent one.
How much are rental costs if you don’t mind.
@@umakantgajjewar8898 Our upcoming trip the price through Eagle Rider Las Vegas is $179 USD a day.

Since I ride 100% on road, I bought the RT. They are awesome bikes. Love all the tech and comfort features. Best bike I've ever owned and I've been riding over 20 years.
I love my R9T!
I bought an S1000XR M Sport. I also ride 100% on road. RT is also a great machine. While I agree GS is one of the best all purpose bikes, if you are more focused on a particular terrain (on-road / off-road/ trails etc) there are better bikes out there.

However, I have to ask a question. Why do you leave the key in the GPS lock? You will lose the key!! Keep it in your jackets breast pocket. The lock is only there to lock the GPS navigation module firmly.
Only as protection against theft.
Funny I also have a R1250RS and my spouse also has an R1250GS, but with an R1200RT-P
Plus if someone manages to take the bike from you, they have the key too!

I love my 1250 too
Pssst,... you see that Honda on the back? You wouldn't drop that one...
How expensive is that
@@dannydevito5729 $1600 for two day, using their bike. $1300 using your own.
BMW should have a little setting you can turn on that hides the speed. That would save TH-camrs from having to blur it out.
Owning a '19 HP myself, there are some additional improvements to the standard GS. It has the GSA's higher suspension, and the wider footpegs. It's a great bike indeed.
You will hear comments like: "GS riders only go to coffee shop, nyuk, nyuk"
Sure, they'll get up early just ride 150 miles to get giant cinnamon roll, then do a 300 mile loop before arriving home.
Yes, yes they do!
I left home for a bagel last Tuesday and was gone for four days 😂 Best bike ever.
And what’s the problem with that?
nice video, I have a 2019 GSA HP.
I just bought a gently used 2014 F800 GSA. Looking forward to winter being gone here so I can ride it!
Ducati Scrambler for popping around the town :D
For real the gs is old mans bike that think he gonna do those crazy adventures but actually just puddles around town once a year.
Got a buddy of mine getting to tweak his 2016 GS1200 for an extra 46hp, making it to 171hp. The rest, use your imagination.
Bought a new BMW R1200GSA in 2009 with all the bells and whistles and after five years and 76,000 miles I suffered the following:
3 final drive bearing failures;
1 final drive housing bearing;
2 sets of main stand bolts (they sheared in half);
LH heated grip;
N/S/R LED indicator;
Front engine oil leak;
Front suspension lower ball joint;
2-3 headlight bulbs per year.
Loved riding it but just couldn't trust it when touring Europe and no, it was never off roaded apart from camp sites and such.
Replaced it with a Honda ST1300 and also kept it for 5 years suffering the following:
Err, um, nothing.

I have a 04 r1150rt - now that's ugly lol- this bike looks good to me.
@@Mike-jv4rz 😂
My multistrada looks amazing!!! Of course I have bifocals!!!😆😆😆😆 my bike needs a code with dead key, I will never forget it!!! Quarter mile 1320 !!!!
Just have to look at it for 100 hours then you get used to the dork beak.
@@cyprn6600
Yeah,I guess.🙄
I mostly ride it on road but it is very capable off road as well. ON the road, its as good a tourer as anything out there. Very comfortable, powerful enough, great ride, handles way better than it should and carries everything.
A friend of mine owns a Vstrom 1050 and no joke he makes dragging knee on that bike look effortless 😂. Nobody expects an adventure bike to go that fast in the twisties
they can shift all right
To use the hill start assist just squeeze the front brake hard when you're stopped.
GS means Gelände/Straße , off-road / road.
So far my bike history is the following:
Suzuki T100
Yamaha Virago
Suzuki dr350s
KLR 650 ( loved that one)
Triumph Tiger 800xc ( current ride)
BMW 1250gs? ? ?
Thanks for what you do SRK. Love the channel.
Just don’t say Bimmer around the car guys as they will chastise you.
I own a 2015 1200 RT and I love it! The boxer engine is pretty cool :-)
Buy the bike you like to ride and makes you feel happy or keep your existing bike because it makes you feel happy…
I went to the BMW school last year in SC. It was top notch and a great opportunity to ride BMW bikes. I gained a new appreciation for their bikes.
😂😂😂
I was in aware of that
I own a 05 1200GS with extremely low miles and it's a great bike.
I love mine too. I got the 2022. It just feels so good to ride.
Yes, I’ve dropped mine too playing in the back yard. Not a scratch.
Been binge watching your vids to catch up with the culture!
....I gotta get me one of these ! GREAT video!
I didn’t know they had an HP version, btw I just bought your God and Gasoline shirt and I love it.🤟🏿
I absolutely love the GS1200/ 1250 series BMWs.
As far as I know GS stands for Gelände+Straße, which means Offroad+Road. It shows that the GS is capable of both of these.
I have everything from triumph tiger to fire blades and i have to say my GS is the master of all. Keeps up with sports bikes on the twisty's and so comfy, still manages to lift the front when it wants. Love it
I'm sticking to my 990 Adventure, best bike ever 🙂
I'm sticking to my Ducati multistrada!!!! Best bike ever !!! 😀😀😀😀🏍🏍🏍🏍🍺🍺🍺
That chart📉 was hilarious!!! 😂

I’m interested in getting the Honda also, any problems thus far?
None so far. The AS-ES w/DCT is about 50-lb. heavier than the base model. So you'll have to decide if the extra features are worth the extra weight and price. That will depend on if you're running mostly pavement or mostly off-road. If mostly off-road I'd def get the lighter bike. Otherwise, it's Honda quality through and through--just as advertised.
@@eyesonly4451 Thanks. Any regrets? You going to keep it?
@@timmoore6656 Absolutely no regrets and def keeping it. It's a perfect bike for my height and weight (I can easily flat-foot even with seat in high position) Riding a BDR this year is on my to-do list.
@@eyesonly4451 Nice, I use a KTM500EXCF for the BDRS. AT seems heavy to take on sketchy off road areas.
Aren’t all liquid cooled engines air cooled as well? Coolant goes through the radiator. Air cools the radiator. Seems a weird thing to point out as a spec.
The liquid cool the engine, the air cools the radiator. Liquid cooled tells you it has a radiator air cooled tells you it doesn't
At the end, everything is air-cooled unless you are in a submarine.
Between the 2 I'd have to say I would go for the triumph rocket 3 due to purpose and just plain radical radical freaking cool factor
Have not Riddin either one.... But dream and can imagine the monster torque which is what really turns me on..
Good review Keep having fun out there
Too bad they cost a fortune. Just started on getting my license and this is my dream bike. Maybe some day... 😅
It's also a LOT of bike for a beginner
Have you seen the price of Harley Davidson, almost all there bikes cost more!
@@madmaxthemotomutt6464 Unfortunately I live in Eastern Europe, this bike costs 2.5 average yearly salaries 😭 it's an investment of a lifetime 😂
BMW bikes are such a pain in the ass to maintain
Nope...still hate BMW...the look, the dad jeans..looks like a sick little bird 🐦🤣
go ride one once and then decide
I also have a 2019 GSA and I absolutely love it. Best motorcycle I’ve owned in 30 years of riding. So awesome!
If I'm not mistaken hillstart is enabled by stopping and quickly grabbing the brake quickly. A green symbol will appear if done right
I wonder how the Africa Twin stacks up to it? The AT is my dream bike. I decided to start with the T-700 but eventually I'll get my hands on the heavier, road friendly bike of me dreams.
I have one too! Kind of… as I ride asphalt only, I do not need off-road capabilities. And mostly daily rides and on multi-day-tours only a moderate amount of km/day I don’t need touring either. So the naked R1200R is the best bike for me I could imagine. I have it more than one year now, it’s fantastic!
Sean, it's Sean the Preacher here in Ireland have a GS love it. Cool video and I loved the Lords word at the start
