    There is some confusion regarding the Roscoe 8. Seems to be a typo on Trek's Swedish website, hence my own confusion.
    The Roscoe 8 has got a 108 POI Bontrager hub, GX derailleur and a NX 10-50 cassette when I look at other European countries and in the US. The GX derailleur can take a 10-52 GX cassette, but I don't know how to fix the hub to take the GX cassette since GX uses a different standard from NX.

    Excellent comparison. At the high end of each you do have a dealer network for Trek if you are a U.S. buyer, and helpful if they are close to where you live.

    Great description of size feel. I am 6 feet exactly. Got an xl, worked great felt roomy but a tad big. Wanted to try a chameleon large easier to maneuver. But found being at 6 feet it gets cramped. Your really not experiencing a steeper seat angle if you need to jam the seat back. I sometimes see xl geo numbers looking too big, so I have to check everything….reach, seat tube angle, effective top tube. Thanks for talking about this.

    Ive had my Stoic 2 for almost a year now. Its the most bike you can get for the money. So far Ive been jumping some 8-10 meters jumps and 2-4 meters drops on it and that thing holds up excellent. Canyon really did a good job on that bike. Only things that have bothered me so far are brakes which Im soon replacing with Sram Code R (~150$ OEM) and fork which is actually not bad and about 100 times better than XCM30 Coil Ive been riding on my previous bike but still Its just not premium and has problems with dampening smaller stuff like rocks. Ill propably put in something like a used Lyrik Ultimate to really have suspension as good as it gets. About other stoics. In my opinion Its much better idea to get Stoic 2 and put in a new fork and brakes than to buy Stoic 4. Stoic 4 is 1900$, Stoic 2 is 900$. For the remaining 1k you can get a brand new rockshox pike ultimate, Sram Code R and an E13 or similar dropper post. In my opinion its a better option. Also allows you to have the bike earlier and do upgrades after a while. One last thing about hardtails. If you want a bikepark enduro beast then you will be better of buying a Stoic 2, riding it with no big upgrades, selling it after a while and picking up some nice enduro full suspension. That's what Im doing. Getting YT Capra Core 1/2 soon.

    FYI, the Roscoe 8 does have the 108 high-engagement hub. It also has a GX derailleur, and NX shifter. The GX derailleur will handle the 52 tooth cassette, but I think the hub would require a modification.
    I just picked up the 8, and it's been great.

    I got a new Roscoe 8 resently. I'm also 6'1" . I road both L and XL for a hour at the store and ultimately thought the large was to small. I'm happy you also think the XL is the right size I feel more confident with my choice. Im considering a slightly shorter stem or higher rise bars. One thing I'll say about the XL though is the seat tube is to long, I could fit a 170mm dropper if the seat tube was a inch lower. But they made it silly long I feel like probably to keep the dropper out of the water bottle cage monts. Who knows.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you made the right decision when it comes to size. It's a personal thing, but when I am in between sizes I usually go for the larger bike. Feels more secure when it gets steep and scary.

      Yes, I’m 6 feet, 34.5 in seem, longer then 6 foot wing span. On these modern geo hardtails I started with xl then went to large on both the Chameleon and Ragley mmmbop. They worked great after having got accustomed to the new mtb geo. But I now got the roscoe in xl, and I might get an xl chameleon mullet. It is such a great bike. Have to be more preside with your position on large, you can be more moving around the cabin on an xl. At least I think that is the case when you are at the end of a size and beginning of another. So smart you rode both for alot of time before choosing. I’m going to put a 27.5 in back and check it out

    Hello Götet! Excelent channel. Need advice, regarding new bike. Comming from an XC bike (Scott RC 900 Team fd carbon) that now is sold, and are looking for a bike that I could have some more fun on just like in simulare enviroment like Delsjön. Alot of roots, rocks, rocklands as Ramsvik and little bit of downhill like Brudarmossen trail tracks. Easy jumps.. maxiumum 30k rides (tired of long XC rides). Can not decide what to buy between the Stoic 4, New Allebike MB31 Discovery, Spectral 125 AL 5. Please give me an advice what to choose and why 🙏

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, all of these choices! 😉
      Since you come from a FS bike I think it would be a step back to go to a HT. The MB31 Discovery has got a very good price, so it's definitely a good option. I think you should take a look at the new Neuron for your type of riding as I feel it's a bit more versatile than the Spectral 125 (unless you plan to visit bike parks). The Spectral 125 is great for steep and roudy trails, the Neuron is nimbler and probably faster overall.

    • @niberdoom
      @niberdoom ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTBs Thank´s, then another to add then 🙂. The position you seemst to have on the Neuron, looks more like XC/downcountry:ish, compared to my first three choises.
      One of the reasons I sold my Scott FD XC bike was that I thought it was to heavy in the front. Want´s a bike that are much more weighted to back so it is easier to pull up the front tyre, when you ride over rock, stocks and other stuff. Seems like the MB31 Discovery, Spectral and even Stoice are more construkted that way compared to the Neuron. But I could be very wrong.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new Neuron is actually pretty tall in the front end and it's got more travel in the rear than the Spectral 125, and more travel in the front than the MB31. It's got a 66 degree head angle though which is slap in the middle of what many downcountry bikes use to have. The Neuron is very close to a downcountry bike on stilts. Maybe that's a trail bike then...🤔
      The difference between the Neuron and the Spectral 125 is that the Spectral 125 is a category 4 bike, which means that it can take some serious abuse. It also feels like an enduro bike, it's a BIG bike with slack geometry and proper, but sticky, trail tyres. You will LOVE the Spectral 125 in steep, roudy descents and you will love the Neuron everywhere else.
      I have videos of both the new Neuron and the Spectral 125 on my channel if you haven't watched them.
      Haven't ridden the MB31, but it seems like a solid option for your type of riding.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You win some in better roll-over and loose some in agility. Shorter persons don’t appreciate getting kicked in the butt on steep descents. In the end it all comes down to where you ride.

    I am looking to replace my Cube Analog from 2016 (XC, alivio/acera/deore/suntour) with a more trail friendly bike, I am currently looking at the Stoic 3. Even though you said it has weird components, is it still a good upgrade/solid bike to do lighter trail/XC duty with?

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't ridden too many Recon Silvers, it works alright but with 140 mm on a 32 mm stanchion there will be some flex if you push the bike. Motion Control damper. Silver is also heavier than Gold. Reba, SID or Pike are clearly better forks. The Recon still works though, but don't expect miracles. The fork is the most important and often most expensive component on a bike.
      SX drivetrain is pretty much junk (well, very budget oriented) don't understand why manufacturers insist with this choice when any Deore drivetriain is considerably better. In mho, the drivetrain is the least important component on a bike though.
      On the positive side, it's got a dropper and the brakes are ok-ish.

      @@MTBs Ah I see, so the premium for the Stoic 4 is worth it? In addition, would the 4 give more room to develop trail experience/skills? Or are there better alternatives at the (max) 20000kr budget?

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say, go for at Stoic 2 for casual trail riding where you get a bike where the geometry and wheels and tyres will not hold you back. Or a Stoic 4 if you want to push hard, develop your skills and take your bike to bike parks.
      Other HT bikes in the same category are the Trek Rosoce, Specialized Fuse, Decathlon AM 100 and the Orbea Laufey to name a few. If they are better alternatives than the Stoic? Don't know, haven't ridden the AM100 or the Laufey but Canyon usually offers value for money and makes perfectly decent bikes.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!
      Ah, that endless discussion about reach vs ETT. 😀
      ETT was a very popular measure about 10 years ago, but there are a few issues with ETT.
      Firstly, it isn't constant (well it is, but ETT feels different for different riders). One rider might sit higher than another which greatly affects how far it is to the handlebar. At the same time reach is constant, no matter who you are.
      Secondly, on these types of bikes you often stand up and then ETT isn't usable. You want a correct reach and not ETT here so that you don't end up with a bike that is too short when standing up.
      Great article that I often refer to here: www.vitalmtb.com/features/Modern-Mountain-Bike-Geometry-Defined-Transition-Explains-Effective-Top-Tube-Versus-Reach,841

    What a garbage review. Any edge the Trek had was taken away by saying “well you can just swap out that part on the Canyon” then you down played every superior component with “it doesn’t really make a difference anyway”. The Stoic 4 competes with the Roscoe 7…maybe 8. From the factory the Roscoe 9 is by far the better bike with much higher tier components. You want a cheap bike with cheap components to swap later? Then go that route but don’t claim the cheaper bike is better because it’s cheaply specced
