- Bear with me, I am completely obsessing over bicycles right now. It's time to start getting in a little bit better health so I picked up one of my oldest hobbies, bicycle riding. This videos goes over some history, what bike i was riding and what bike I just ended up buying. Hope you dig it, sorry about the horrendous camera work.

Seems like all of us 80s and 90s kids love the same things. Awesome Stuff!
My exact thought.
I concur🤘😖🤘
I'm a 80s/90s Adult and mtn. biker, that's retired now and due to heart issues, have switch over to 20" fat-tire e-bikes, but still have my Cannondale Super V , & GT RTS mountain bikes. My first bike was a Stingray banana seat 20" Huffy bike and since then I've always ridden bikes, motorcycles. At 67, I've never lost the FUN FACTOR of biking. 😊
Like me , looking to get One and restart again , now with 42 years old eheheh
I don't understand Gen X folk who don't obsess over mountain bikes 🤣
That intro is so relatable!
"bikes, bikes, bikes, bikes, bikes"
*gets license*
"whats a bike?"
I've done the opposite to you over the last few years, I bought a basic Roscoe in 2020 then got a used Specialized Camber full sus off a friend, the Roscoe was more fun to throw around downhill but the baloon tyres make it feel so slow everywhere else compared to the Specialized's narrower 29's
I’m sure my fleet will change a lot over the next couple of years
Love to hear about the changes in your health! Got off my mountain bike years ago due to a lack of good local trails but riding on the road 8-10 hrs a week has done wonders for my physical and mental health, and just better overall lifestyle choices. Plus it's fun as hell going fast on a bike, even if I am 40 😅. Another vote for more bike content!
Right on. The life choice thing is real. Kind of just subconsciously making smarter decisions all around
Hey @thedirtheadshed - check out the guys at Ride or Die - Roadkill video - awesome vibe!
From a fellow 44 y/o!
I love bikes and 4x4's, this is a good direction on the channel. I have rode hard trails for a long time. I got my first full sus bike a few years ago and haven't looked back, I have two full sus bikes now.
Right on. Stoked to see how many people are riders
Right on! I go back and forth with a full sus and a hardtail. The hardtail keeps me honest. Slows me down, feel the terrain more.
I do like seeing the Mountain Bike content. It gets me motivated to get back on my Trek. It has sat for way too long. And I do miss riding it, a lot. That gives me a challenge to meet and overcome.
Nice! It’s obtainable too. You already own it
42…also got back into bikes a couple yrs ago. Got a Santa Cruz full suspension mtb that I ❤
Stoked you like em too!
As a Singlespeed Hardtail rider on a steel frame with near downhill geometry(Kona Honzo ESD) I approve this purchase. Most ppl are overbiked for the vast majority of trails they ride and skills they have.
That is SO true
Hell yeah! Pedal power! just went on a 30 mile ride yesterday
Right on! Getting after it
I'm an avid mountain biker. I loved the channel before. This will make me like it even more. Keep the bike stuff coming!
Thanks so much. I’ll keep em coming. Probably in small doses
I got back into riding about 10 years ago and I got hooked. Sad part now is that you can never have enough bikes :) Keep up the riding!
Don’t tell anyone… but i bought another already
I only have two bikes and my wife thinks it’s one too many. I can think of at least three others I NEED.
@@thedirtheadshedits like they breed!!!😄😄😄
I got 5 bikes :/
Before the Internet, a bicycle was the only way to go and explore the world or go to your friends house
It was a big part of my life back then
Love it! I'm 68 and still riding, although now it's on paved trails with my tadpole trike. No electric assist!
Wanted to love this bike so much. Saved for while, sold another bike, went and got a brand new Trek Roscoe 8 , already cracked the frame by the stem first week. Didnt got hard on it yet. Returned, shopping again.
Keep the mtn bike action coming. I'm an old BMX and 26" mtn biker. I kept going when I was active duty in So-Cal. Even raced out there in the 909. I still hae a bike but its a death trap with mechanical brakes. Still the old style 26" wheels.
Its funny my research led me to the Roscoe 8 also. Hadn't pooled up enough money for one, but good to see someone else agreed with my research.
They seem like a good bang for the buck at 1599
Awesome addition to your content. Alot of what you said is very similar to my riding/ offroading journey. Can't wait for more.
Great to see you having fun!! Those are sweets rides, and anything two wheel is always cool. You are an awesome rider!! Healthy is happy, way to go Dave!!!
43 now, did a lot of mountian biking in my tweens and teens then got back into a couple years ago. I got a Roscoe 9 about a year ago and really like it, im looking forward to more bike content.
Right on. I keep wondering if i shoud have gone with the 9. But the 8 is getting it done pretty well
Im also 45. Raced bmx from around 92 to 94 when I got my drivers license. I got into cars and stopped riding. Tried to ride bmx again in my 30s and that didn't work ha ha. Im looking at getting into a mountain bike but don't know what direction to go. Im definitely inspired to go look at buying something. Thanks for the content variety. Ill watch it all.
Thanks for the support! Do a little research and you’ll find a good bike
Beacon Hill? Love that trail system. So much good riding in your area. Congrats on 100k subscribers!
Thanks so much. Yeah. It’s awesome getting to have fun in my area!
All in the name of just having fun and some healthy fun ain't so bad as we get older.
Exactly!
62 and like you was so into bikes as a kid, rode all the time, even a few 6 + miles one way to elementary school with no helmet. My have times have changed! Anyway got back into bikes about 4 years ago and started with a Trek Marlin 5. Then the obsession with the you tube vids about biking and ended up buying several bike tools and swapped almost everything out on the Trek. Converted to a 1 by 10 speed, swapped the cranks, pedals, wheels and tires to tubeless, dropper post and so about all that remains of the original is the frame. Then got a 27.5 Santa Cruz 5010 so swap up riding different ones depending on where I plan to ride. Even build some trails in the edge of the yard/woods at my house. Been slacking though so better quite watching you tube and get my fat butt outside and ride.
Getting after it! Great story. Go ride
After listening to your intro music, it’s way more mountain bike truck actually. I like it. Thanks
Love the bike stuff too. I’m the same age and rode my bike everywhere until I got my license. At the start of covid I bought a very old version of my dream bike, a Specialized Roubaix. Lately I’ve been wanting a mountain bike, so good stuff.
Right on. I say get the bike as long as you’ll make the time to ride it
One of the most real guys on you tube right here !!!
Cheers
Used to love to ride, now I just need a motor on it.
It was good to see you on Roadkill Garage on David’s Jeep, hope they’re bringing you back into the fold Dave.
Thanks. That was a fun week. Always good to get those gigs
It's so funny to hear all your hobbies and past. Feel we could have been living parallel life's. Raced at River Side in Clackamas and indoor in Albany in the early 90's. Have fun on 2 wheels.
Nice! Those were good times
4x4, dirtbikes, Jeeps, big trucks. All stuff I love. We rode bikes like crazy in my original neighborhood south of downtown Cincinnati. I still love them, even in the boonies if Southesst Indiana, your channel has all stuff I like. Great work
Right on. Glad you are digging it
Hey Dave, I'm so stoked to see you bring some more variety to the channel, I appreciate the skills and knowledge you share with the fabrication projects and dig the MTB content too! As somebody that's been wrenching in bike shops for 12 years it's great to see and feel your renewed enthusiasm for getting back on the bike.
Right on. Glad you dig it. Hope it’s just a little different perspective than what most bike channels show
My 29er hardtail has been sitting in the shed for 4 years. I think I need to clean it up and get some miles in. Thanks for the motivation.
It’s a long weekend!
I have been fighting audio issues myself. Gave me a chuckle. Congratulations on 100k!
It’s a struggle
I totally support this bicycle direction. 8 Years ago I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I immediately bought a full suspension trail bike. However, I recently did the same thing as you, I downgraded to a hard tail with a nice fork. It really just suits my riding style better. This is also a great time to buy bikes as far as prices are concerned. You also live in a great area to showcase your riding skills. I look forward to seeing more.
That’s one of the best things. Mountain biking is actually convenient here. Doesn’t have to be an all day affair
Staying up till 10:45pm watching bike videos! Like me watching 4x4 and welding videos? It does feel like MTBing and wheeling are the same things just different motors.
Totally! We are all the same
Thanks for adding more crazy stuff, Dave. Have a great holiday weekend, brother.
You too! Thanks for watching
Congratulations on the 100,000 subscribers! I haven't found any of your videos boring, you do a great job of mixing things up. Just keep doing what you're doing. ALWAYS GREAT CONTENT!
Thanks so much! I’m having fun with it
Born in 78 and I always wanted to be the King of Dirt. The movie RAD is still my favorite. I own it on VHS. I always owned Redlines and still have a 24 inch cruiser
Yeah dude! You know what’s up
Dave you continue to inspire me to get back to work on my projects, and now I wanna knock the dust and spider webs off my old mountain bikes and get back out there on them.
Right on! Hope you get the wheels turning
Man…. So grew up riding and racing motocross. Got my drivers license and my first 4x4(samurai) got out of moto for a bit while working 7 days a week as a heavy equipment mechanic. Got back into moto in my 30’s then had kids and got into mountain bike hardcore because it’s less time consuming. Built my own custom hardtail and full suspension bikes. Then got back into 4x4’s again. I swear if we weren’t on opposite sides of the country I’d say we were twins separated at birth.
Love this! Personally ride hardtail myself and absolutely love it and have a bike park super close to the house that I frequent! Keep up the excellent content and biking!
Right on! I’ll keep at it. Enjoying it so far
Enjoyed the video, I didn't start riding until I was in my late 50's mostly road bikes but few years back started mountain biking so I could ride with my grandkids.the only problem is when I get on my bike I still think I'm in my twenties and at 68 it really smarts when I hit there ground. There are some good trails up at Priest lake. Enjoy
Yeah. Crashing sucked as a kid.. way worse now!
The bike that's right for you is never a downgrade...
I’m really enjoying it
good on ya dude🤟🤟 I got back on the deadly treadly after a long hiatus about a year ago, now I'm absolutely hooked again.
That’s awesome
44 here and completely hooked on mountain bikes. I accidentally discovered eBikes a while back and got a whole new sickness. I’m currently riding a Pivot Shuttle AM Team build
Nice!! The pivot bikes are sweet
Sounds like we are going through the same thing. I am doing it to improve my health and drop a few lbs. Just picked up the Giant Trance X and can't stop watching the MTB videos! Enjoy yourself. 😂 👍🏼
It’s something a Lot of us are going through
Love the added content.....nice to hear about bike stuff from a "normal" non-expert type person vs. a pro.
I’m hoping it will be pretty relatable
You basically described the same experience I had. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one. Grew up on beater bikes. Literally rode the wheels off them. When I was about 14 finally scored a nice bike, then turned 16 and life was all about C10s and small block chevy mods. In my 40s now and back into bikes after 3 knee surgeries. I like the hardtails too. Great to see the bike content from a like minded person.
I hear pedaling is really good for knee recovery
I still have my BMX bike from 1984. I drag it out every now and then. Love the bike content!
I can’t ride my bmx very well anymore
I enjoyed the video. By the way, this most recent Road Kill Garage episode was excellent. I chuckle every time the day starts and you're there with your coffee cup. Good stuff!
I just show up in the most random spots
I love my full suspension bike but I rented a Roscoe 8 for a day when I was travelling and was super impressed with it. It was kind of nice to just concentrate on my riding as well, rather than (over)thinking about setup!
I agree
Dude. Hell yeah. So pumped to see you bringing this mix of hobbies to the channel. I love me some MTB and currently building a flatbed squarebody with a bike rack as a dedicated weekend fun rig.
Sounds like a cool setup
First!! Love this channel!!
Winner!
This is awesome man, another mid 40's here from Oz, been into MTB for majority of my years. Keep up the great content👍👍
Thanks! Cheers
Bike geometry has changed a lot in the last few years. It has changed for the better
I totally agree
I've been riding a 2003 haro hardtail that I bought new. Love the feel of a hardtail, but could probably use some upgrades. Being over 20 years old it fits in well with my 20+ year old junk jeep and truck. You're motivating me to get it out and ride. Keep up the videos Dave!
That’s awesome . Definitely peddle it around.
Doesn’t matter how old the bike is. Really nice tires and new chain help, but if the bike fits and works, its good.
That Trek frame is absolutely beautiful! Incredible bike!😅
Waaaay out of anything I could afford...😌
Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
It is really nice!! Greetings from the United States of America
I am LOVING the mix with mountain bikes! I feel like I can relate to your channel even more now! Great content, keep up the great work! I'm glad to hear your getting healthier as well. Awesome video!
Thanks so much. I’ll keep mixing it up
Awesome video Dave. Most of my hobbies include dirt. Trail riding, RallyCross, mountain biking, and hiking. Thank you for sharing and congrats on 100k!
Thanks so much. Stoked how many people are on board
I've been considering getting a hard tail to get back into some riding at a mid lvl kinda deal. Love to see the content and its definitely sparking my interest as someone around the same age as you. Keep it up and glad to hear of the self improvement you've made!
If you can afford it. This Roscoe is really nice. Also maybe look into the Trek Marlin
Love this new content addition and different twist on , "Dirthead." Mountain biking definitely fits, and I'll look forward to it continuing to be a part of the mix!
Thanks so much. As much as I wanted big trips and elaborate builds I think this Vlog style channel is more my speed and budget
Cool Dave. I road bikes a lot when I was growing up. But that was in the 60's. No mountain bikes back then. But with less traffic you could ride your bike to the store without getting ran over. I'd like to get back into some biking, but I getting on in years. I do watch the Berm Peak guy a lot, he has interesting videos. I still like bikes, but....
The berm peak videos are great. I would like to try gravel bike trips. Seems like a good way to make miles with less traffic
I honestly think the dropper post is the biggest game changer from when we were kids. Having lower and slacker geometry makes it feel a lot more stable and not so top-heavy. I was going to do a hardtail also, but the terrain in Phoenix is so rocky that it wasn't enjoyable. Bring your bike out to Phoenix and I'll show you some fun stuff!
Dropper post is amazing!
It’s 10 at night and now I’m watching your MTB video. You’re in good company. Trucks and the bikes-I’m stoked for the new content.
Right on. I’m glad you dig it. Bonus video going up in a few minutes
Hell Yeah Dave .... i'm 50 & got back into mountain bikes about 10 years ago .. i'm fitter , lighter , far more flexible & less back-ache as a result
Good work! I can feel the benefits already
Great to see the bike content, you’re a great rider! I’ve recently got back on my mountain bike and really enjoying it again.
Right on! It’s so much fun
Awesome Dave, I've been cycling a lot since my teens. I built a super high end MTB 20 years ago but barely took it off road and mostly stuck to road bikes. About 5 years ago I built a fat bike and that's been so amazingly fun. I wouldn't have believed it from looking at it but the traction and stability are so confidence inspiring and being fully rigid I think helps with the technique. I've also found that since getting the fat bike my skill and confidence on the motorbikes has increased by a huge margin, I never had a motorbike growing up and have very little off-road experience so now am planning on getting a 300 cc dual sport
I’m all for bike content! Looking forward to more
We appreciate you Dave!!!
I can relate 100%. When my kid started riding a bike, I built a 24” Haro BMX to go with her. 45 I built another 24” BMX with tuff wheels. If it were 1986, I would be THE coolest! Lol😅
Hahah. It’s easy to Be cool as a kid. As we get older we have to Buy cool
Throw all the two wheel action you want Dave! Love it all and it keeps things fresh.
Glad you dig it. I don’t think it’s worth starting a second channel to do like 5 bike videos a year
Congrats on hitting 100k!!! You always have great content in your videos! Looking forward to seeing progress on Butter Jeep!!
Coming up right away! Thanks
Berm Peak is a great MTB channel. Cool dude. I just got back on my Specialized Rockhopper Hardtail 29". $800.00 I think it was. Not too bad.
Nice! Yeah his channel is great
Love those Billy Goat mega Gear for climbing .. nice !!! .. LOL you know your getting older as a rider when just looking at a hardtail makes my knees ache .. lol
They definitely make you work for it more
Cant wait to see your first bike build! Keep the bike vids coming!!
Full build?! That sounds like a lot of parts rounding up
Keep the Bike stuff coming.. I started down the same path last year....bikes everything..... I put 400 plus miles last year and I plan to do the same this year....btw .. I'm 55 and it's never too late .. keep it up
Ride on! It’s fun
I've got a Roscoe 8. Awesome bike! Ride it much more than my full suspension. Love the bike content.
It’s all off roading to different degrees! Sorry about the audio issues. I’m due a neck surgery this summer then I’m back at it!!! So I’m feeling it on getting the lungs back too! Another fun video!
Ooh… best of luck on a speedy recovery
@@thedirtheadshed thanks bub!
Getting my driver license at 16 yo was forgetting my bikes also. Now I have seven bikes! I am also into bike videos without forgetting my jeep.
Glad you’re back too
Love this addition to the channel! Hope you come to North Carolina sometime and we can have a group ride.
I love that state
Yo! I’m here for the MTB content. Grew up on bike, loved cars since birth, grew up watching y’all, and after getting my first car I stopped riding bikes, but now 25 I’m back into bikes too! Also picked up a Roscoe 8 last week. After a bunch of research I could not find a better deal on a hardtail in the 1200-1800 range that had what I needed/wanted. Had a GT Aggressor that I rode into the ground in 1 year. Lol
Dude, you’re on track! Keep it up
Wow, worlds collide. Great to see you healthy and happy out on you bikes. Rock on brutha.
Thanks! Finally getting my legs back
59 here. And till riding since my teen years. I'm on my rigid Single speed 3-4 times a week here in Marin county.
I do pop on my Full suspension once in a while depending on the ride (terrian).
Nice!
Bro said terrian
Awesome Dave👍👍👍👍👍! Looks like you are an excellent rider. Just be cautious. As we get older, it's harder to recover if accident happens.
Oh yeah. It hurts much more nowadays
Ain't that the truth and it is not if the accident happens but when
Super stoked on your return to mountain biking, and I dig the content. I'm two years older then you and last year I started back in with my Trek. I'm in Northern Idaho so your pacific Northwest views look very familiar to me. Congratulation on your new Isuzu project, I look forward to seeing it's rejuvenation. I feel like they are under represented, Isuzu really made some durable and capable vehicles (as a fan boy you of course are well aware of that). I have a Scout 2 on '77 chevy 3/4 ton axles, 203/205 doubler transfer cases, and a healthy 383 SBC. Rock on Dave!
This is why we should be BFF😂 love mtb and Bmx, been riding since I can remember, I just picked up a Santa Cruz Bronson, and I’m in love
So cool. Ride on
Dude! Im 44, the mountains were calling me, bought a place in Colorado and bike that cost wayyyy too much money. Having the time of my life 😁
I watch Seth, Alex, Bobo, Brian, Sam, and all the regulars religiously too.
Right on. My next bike video will be an attempt at a real review
@@thedirtheadshed hell man, grab a friend and come on out here and I will host you and show you around some of the trails, can even hit up a park and get in some off the chart gravity.
Motorbikes, bikes and cars.. You’re the man 💥💯🤘🏼
Thanks for watching
Awesome Dave! Great to add bikes! Keep it up man! 🤜🤛🚴♂️
Thanks!
My two favorite things are bikes and 4x4s. There’s awesome biking and wheeling out in Montana. Ride hard Dave!
I want to explore Montana a bunch more
Hardtail gang!
It's crazy how much better bikes have gotten since I started riding in high school in the 90s. But I think folks underrate the advances in trailbuidling too. Up here in BC it's hard to be more than an hour away from an awesome trail system these days.
And the jumps all seem to work! We use to make some garbage jumps
Love it! 49 here, grew up riding when mtbs were all blinged out with cnc anodized goodies and suspension was still new. Bikes have come a long way for sure - dropper posts, disc brakes, 1x drivetrain, tubeless tires, wide bars with slacker geo. So much fun and a great way to burn off the beers. Love the variety of content, congats on 100k!
Thanks so much. I just sold a vintage bike with a bunch of anodized goodies to help pay for the Roscoe.
BMX back in 1999+ changed my life Dave, I’ve been wanting to get into mtn bikes too but I can’t justify the funds when I’d rather spend on my cars🙃
That’s totally true. I sold a bunch of stuff around the shop to come up with the $.
I love the channels OldShovel and Berm Peak. I have a 90’s Klein and grew up on a Marin. Should definitely get into a 90’s bike!
… I just sold one to help pay for new bike
This is rad!
48, been a rider all my life and bikes are my profession. Got a bunch of nice bikes and was 100% seriously thinking about a sub 2k complete last night. Just to see what a new rider would be coming into. Ride it as is for 100mi. Then limit changes to grips and seat for the rest of the season.
Cover more of the healthy stuff! Cars have always been fun for me too, I think we can agree the car community needs more inspiration to take care of ourselves better. Bikes are great for this so we can get our mechanical fix too!!
Enjoy the new bike and new(old) habits!
That is true. It’s a pretty good crossover.
38.. also got back into bikes this year. Love this content.
love the 4x4 stuff, own an old landrover, i'm 53 and i've been riding mtb for about 20 years for the last 3 years i ride exclusively hardtail, nukeproof scout, poor old full suss is languishing in my garage.
Sounds like you’re having fun!
So great to see a few offroad TH-camrs getting back into riding bikes! As you said, they've come such a long ways since we were kids messing around on 20in single speeds. Also fun to see the trail system I ride often. I'm surprised to see you hitting all that rocky gnar on your hardtail! This really makes me want to get a Roscoe...I just got a brand new Slash, and it's so damn good, but something about reconnecting with the trail on a hardtail is really appealing right now...well, you get it. I would highly recommend getting a chest mount for future riding videos, with superview and hyper stabilization enabled on the GoPro. Really makes for an immersive experience. Also, there's a group of rowdy but chill riders who ride those trails every Wednesday evening, so if you're interested in sharing the stoke, look up Mountain Junkie Wednesdays!
Is that the group that leaves from Bottles in millwood?
Thanks for choosing realistic bikes. I hate it when people make content on $10k and up bikes like you need that to have fun and adventure. An immense amount of fun and adventure can be had at the lower end price point of the good bikes. Bike snobbery keeps a lot of people out of the hobby / sport.
I’m sure! It’s like that with any hobby
Congratulations on hitting100k! I’m a few years older than you but i remember riding bikes everywhere before we got drivers licenses. We were a lot healthier then for sure
Heck yeah we were. Those were good days
Keep the Bike content coming!!! I’ve always kept my butt in the saddle since I was in my teens! Also keep the automobile content! This is going to be a AWESOME channel!!! 🇺🇸💪🏼
So cool! Glad you’re digging it
Dave, 45, Idaho, bikes, 4x4… literally like looking in the mirror. Fun episode for me!!
Right on! So many of us on the same page
Upgrades for the haro, if you can get a rear coil shock or a shock with a external res. *if the frame has clearance.
Another upgrade would be a better fork with larger stations.
You may also be able to upgrade the fork internals with the new damper and get more control over the fork settings.
Have been following your channel ever since the beginning and love all thing cars, Jeeps, low riders and mountain bikes.
Love the new content and keep up the old content.
