I was literally about to say the same thing. she describes them very well. Metal and rocking one minute and popish the next. I just never could really get into them even though I do listen to em some.
Y’all should check out their song “So Far Away” they wrote it after the passing of their drummer. It’s not as heavy, but such an amazing song. And you can hear more of M. Shadow’s voice
I interpret this song as a cautionary tale. It’s about a man who made bad/evil choices in life and is now living his worst nightmare--he’s on his way to hell for eternity.
I think this song is literally just a horror comic in song form. No real deeper meaning, just kind of thematic and fun. That's just me, though. Edit: I think I confused this song with another A7X song. It's been a while haha
They made this song in contrast to Afterlife. You can see some imagery from the Afterlife music video in the Nightmare one. From the spider and the Rev, to Zach dancing with the skeleton, and others.

Why do people insist on “A Little Peace of Heaven” for newbies lmao although at least you have it near the bottom of that list so it’s not one of the songs they here immediately after this
This song's drum track was written by their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan prior to his untimely death, but he didn't get a chance to record it before he'd passed and the band had Mike Portnoy from "Dream Theater" playing the drums when they recorded this song and Portnoy was offered to appear in the video, but turned it down, as it was relatively soon after Rev had passed
A lot of A7X's song are "all over the place" To me, it makes them have an epic feel. Not epic as in the overused term, but epic as in taking you on a journey. Try save me by them next. My favorite song by my favorite band
they're touching on prog with it being "all over the place". I guess it stands to reason since they have the prog masters Dream Theater's drummer, one of the best drummers in the world, Mike Portnoy laying down the drum track on this particular A7X song. Anyway time for some Twelve Foot Ninja _"One Hand Killing"_ or _"Coming For You"_ and let's see what they make of those changes
When it comes to A7X, they have a lot nuance and intracies in their song meanings, it's never as black and white lyrically. Couple this with how amazing Matt's voice is, so diverse and his screams and growls to clean vocals never fails to amaze me, to Syns insane guitar solos and in general, to of course The Rev, it might take a few more songs for you guys to fully immerse into the band but once you do it's a phenomenal trip through euphoric music with badass riffs, solo's, drumming and vocals ! You guys could consider Seize the Day, Beast and the Harlot, So Far Away, Dear God, Critical Acclaim, Save Me, Fiction amd eventually A Little Piece of Heaven ! Great breakdown guys !
They wrote two songs dedicated to The Rev, who, essentially, killed himself with his addiction. This is their "angry" song. The other one is "So Far Away," which I consider their true dedication to him. It was a tragic loss, and they had every right to be angry with him. They had to get it out somehow... Being musicians, there was only one way.
A7X is one of my FAVORITES!! I see them every time they have a concert in Chicago..Syn on the guitar is pure brilliance and Matt's vocals warm my soul..Hail to the king is a good one with another great guitar solo and Shepard of fire is another favorite I would recommend! Loved your reaction!!!🤙🤙
You have to do " So Far Away" The song written for their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan who died prior to the Nightmare album. Its not all crazy, just a beautiful song and video. You have to do the official video to get the full effect.
HOWDY FROM NEW ENGLAND...THIS SONG IS ABOUT THEIR LATE DRUMMER THE REV WHO DIED OF AN O.D. IN 2009 WHILE THEY WERE RECORDING THIS ALBUM....RIP TO THE REV...A TRUE GOAT INDEED...PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST...
One of my favorites of A7x, another is from the same record named “Welcome to the Family.” Lex, if you want to get lit af….listen to that song ASAP! Saw them in concert at the Cajundome in Lafayette (LA) when they were touring for the “Nightmare” album. They put on one of the best stage performances that I’ve ever seen.
Ummm, no. This song was written before Jimmy passed away. You can find videos of him playing the drum parts in the studio. The Nightmare album was originally going to be a concept album, focusing on the consequences of living an evil life. The only song on the record that was written after Jimmy died was So Far Away.
the thing the young lady is talking about is called the music being "progressive" - basically, the music changing between a bunch of different "vibes" as y'all would say.
So, this entire album was done after the death of their childhood friend and bandmate, drummer extraordinaire, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. The drummer from Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy, whom the Rev was a huge fan of, agreed to play the drums for this album. React to the Video for So Far Away, which is all about it. Great emotional song.

You guys should listen to Dream Theater! the drummer played on this album (Nightmare, 2010) after A7X's drummer (Jimmy The Rev) died. I recommend Fatal Tragedy, part of a conceptual album about a guy who gets to regression therapy to find out the meaning of the dreams that torment him. The lyrics are great for Brad and the band are insanely virtuosos and mix metal with prog rock and orchestra, even ragtime music for Lex who loves solos.

Judas Priest - Painkiller. Please I want to see your reaction to Rob Halford’s singing! Judas Priest is a little more out there but they are a metal classic nonetheless.
That is definitely a xylophone at the beginning. The music store i taught guitar at for 16 years had one. I used to play this intro on it all the time.
Saw them play this live. Stage was dark right, right as the main hit a guy “hangs” himself right above the band and hangs thru the whole song. Wicked intense and a hell of a way to start the show! Awesomeness
Lol she is right I was weird about how he sounded but it grows more u hear him more it grows. But yeah the instruments are out of this world. My number one rock band. They way they change sound so much it’s great.
Their original drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan lost his battle with addiction and this song depicts his nightmare. It can be interpreted many ways. I played it for our high school Sunday school class, yes even with the f word, and let them interpret it and discussed how many choices we have everyday that could lead to a nightmare. Such an amazing band!
I would have enjoyed taking a college class with Brad. To go over our individual thoughts on lectures and see how the material makes sense in relation to our individual worldviews. One of those dudes who inspire you to think. Keep doing what you guys are doing.
See, as a lifetime heavy metal & prog rock fan, Bat Country was the very first A7X song I ever heard and I instantly loved it. I soon became a huge fan. The complicated and intricate time changes and raw power of it caught me off guard. If you want to experience the birth and growth of a metal band first hand, listen to the first 3 or 4 A7X albums in succession. Its a pure display of a rough and raw 1st try, with screamed vocals and more punk-like, simplistic, garage band vibe. Second album your already getting cues of what's to come, bits of trial singing and a bit more intricate composing and by #3 they hit you with stuff like Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot and Sieze the Day, a huge popular radio hit for them. Great Band
This band is the most talented metal band of OUR generation. The album " The Stage" is the greatest album since Metallica's Black and this genre along with this band is worth delving into. I DO believe that we need to see them react to Slaughter To Prevail's BRATVA. I am SURE that Lex is gonna LOVE it! And who knows... Perhaps Brad as well! \m/
Killer vocals, guitar riffs/solo, but the DRUMMER!!!! /m\ if you don't break free of the shackles of anxiety/mental disorders, you'll simply permit them to control your life in the long run and miss out on so much in life". Second verse focuses more on someone's realization that anxiety is taking over their life.
I think her analyzing the musicality and you analyzing the lyrics works well. That way we get a broader opinion. This band is in so many ways amazing, its easy to miss their talent.
The bell sounds at the beginning are from a toy glockenspeil that Shadows had at home. They tried using a professional version, but didn't like the sound as much as from the toy.
Personally, I think the combination of Brad trying to understand the song and Lex trying to feel the song is the best approach, especially for heavier music. The lyrics are often meant to be deep, but the music is always meant to take control of your body. To me, how well a song can do the latter is the truest measure of how good the song is.

Personally, I think the combination of Brad trying to understand the song and Lex trying to feel the song is the best approach, especially for heavier music. The lyrics are often meant to be deep, but the music is always meant to take control of your body. To me, how well a song can do the latter is the truest measure of how good the song is.
