The Rev drummed for most of the album and Portnoy helped finish the album with most of the parts that the Rev wrote (Although, he did improvise some). A few songs even have his voice as backing tracks. But totally agree with checking out Dream Theatre. Portnoy is a beast.
Avenged Sevenfold "Buried Alive" & "Almost Easy" are two of my most favorite songs...ever. "Hail to the King" is a fun one as well. "Far away", "after life",....basically anything off of Nightmare album are great and mostly about losing their best friend & drummer Rev. "Seize the day" is another great and different paced song that is really good.

Fiction was the last song Jimmy did drums, pianos, and vocals on. They didn't really change to much to the song and you can hear him singing through out the song. I believe he left the demo in the studio and the next day we heard he was dead.
The music video for this song was based on a psychological horror film called Jacob's Ladder. It was one of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's favorite films. His drum kit is the one at the end, and he had passed away from heart failure caused by mixing prescription medication with alcohol. This song was originally supposed to be about a concept character waking up inside of a nightmare rather than the opposite way around, but that album concept was scrapped after Jimmy's passing, and the song was re-written to symbolize the band members being trapped in the hell of depression, having to live without their best friend. The band was formed in 1999 while the members were in their teens, and this album, Nightmare, was released in 2010. They had come so far and lost so much when Jimmy passed. Mike Portnoy from the band Dream Theater recorded all of Jimmy's demoed parts for the album.
I really hope you've listened to the first album and Waking The Fallen album. Waking The Fallen in my opinion had much better songs. But keep rockin' what you know and hope you check out the rest of their music one of these days.

Went and saw these guys live with theory of a deadman, papa roach, bullet for my valentine and three days grace like 15 years ago. It was just after their drummer passed away. Genuinely the best concert ive ever seen. Wish i coulda seen the rev live.

this was a big part of a send off to The Rev, who was their Drummer and long standing member of the group who tragically passed away, i can only imagine that M.Shadows (i think that's the Vocalist's Name/Alias ) felt like he had lost a brother.
I’m a big A7X fan, and I’m so happy to see you react to Nightmare! The backstory makes this video much more interesting! The Rev, their drummer, died while they were making and recording this album. So while this song wasn’t made specifically for him, the video was (which is why you see all of the instrumentalists in the video except for the drummer. Mike Portnoy stepped in and finished the album using what the Rev had already recorded). But the tattoo you see in the beginning is a tribute to the Rev, the smashed drum set you see in the beginning is his (and it’s covered with spiders because he was an arachnophobe), and the scenes in the rooms as he’s being wheeled through are scenes from their prior music videos with a darker twist (so the one with the guy dancing with the skeleton is a reference to a prior video, where he was dancing with a woman). And the drum set at the end is The Rev’s. It’s definitely a heavier video when you watch knowing it’s a tribute to their drummer. Another one of their songs, So Far Away, was written as a tribute to him, and the video really tugs at the heartstrings!

there drummer the rev actually passed away before this video was made he wrote out the drum parts but mike portonoy from dream theater did the drumming thats why the drums r just sitting there at end because rev had passed away dec 28, 2009 and the video was done in 2010 i believe this was the first video from the album after he died.

This album was in the works when their drummer Jimmy died & one of the last songs Jimmy worked on. That's why the video ends at the room with Jimmy's drum kit because losing their best friend was a nightmare they wished they could wake-up from. It was the last album I, personally, really liked by them. The song So Far Away was written for Jimmy by lead guitarist, Synister(Brian) & the video is a reenactment of them all growing up together in Huntington Beach, Ca. My youtube channel is ollllld but I think I still have the vid I took from the beginning of one of A7X's concert sets. They opened with an actor dropping from the rafters in the stadium with a noose around his neck. Then they started playing Nightmare. The guy was left there to sway, pretending he was dead, until the next song. Coolest opening everrr

Just a reminder: A7X has three amazing albums everyone seems to forget about: 1. waking the fallen: songs chapter 4, unholy confessions, I won't see you tonight part 1&2, second heartbeat, desecrate through reverance are musically perfect in my opinion. 2. Sounding the seventh trumpet: literally any song 3. Warmness of the soul. Their very first EP release. Please check out these albums. You'll really get a feel for how the band grew together, evolved, and you'll see The Rev's ever growing influence in their music. It's rare that a band becomes better and better as their career goes on, and A7X is one of those bands that continued to push themselves to be better, and not allow themselves to because me stuck in the same sound.

You should check their performance at Long Beach City (LBC), it was one of their best performances since they started. Also, they've got great songs like Critical Acclaim, Gunslinger or So Far Away, but if you wanna react to another music video I'd recommend Seize the Day. Great video!

there drummer the rev actually passed away before this video was made he wrote out the drum parts but mike portonoy from dream theater did the drumming thats why the drums r just sitting there at end because rev had passed away dec 28, 2009 and the video was done in 2010 i believe this was the first video from the album after he died.

This song it's actually beautiful because it's a tribute to their friend Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (he used to play the drums) and the other song that fills you up with feels is So Far Away, the lyrics are beautiful and super sad

The drum set at the end was a nod to their late drummer Jimmy The Rev who unfortunately died while they were making this album. They brought in another drummer to finish production. These guys are awesome, really humble and genuine!!!

This album was in the works when their drummer Jimmy died & one of the last songs Jimmy worked on.
That's why the video ends at the room with Jimmy's drum kit because losing their best friend was a nightmare they wished they could wake-up from. It was the last album I, personally, really liked by them.
The song So Far Away was written for Jimmy by lead guitarist, Synister(Brian) & the video is a reenactment of them all growing up together in Huntington Beach, Ca. Talented group of (very attractive😂)guys. Just another self taught garage band🤷♀️

the tattoo on the singer matts hand at the beginning is of the rev, its a skull with wings and his hair, the actual logo is a skull with wings called the deathbat, they all have one and they all have a necklace thats shaped like a bullet which is a piece of rev his actual name is jimmy sullivan, drum kit. theyve all been best friends since high school all the guys now have children and all the kids have either jimmys name or middle name in there names, ive met the guys a couple times such great guys.

Just a reminder: A7X has three amazing albums everyone seems to forget about:
1. waking the fallen: songs chapter 4, unholy confessions, I won't see you tonight part 1&2, second heartbeat, desecrate through reverance are musically perfect in my opinion.
2. Sounding the seventh trumpet: literally any song
3. Warmness of the soul. Their very first EP release. Please check out these albums. You'll really get a feel for how the band grew together, evolved, and you'll see The Rev's ever growing influence in their music. It's rare that a band becomes better and better as their career goes on, and A7X is one of those bands that continued to push themselves to be better, and not allow themselves to because me stuck in the same sound.

You should check their performance at Long Beach City (LBC), it was one of their best performances since they started. Also, they've got great songs like Critical Acclaim, Gunslinger or So Far Away, but if you wanna react to another music video I'd recommend Seize the Day. Great video!
