  • Mechanic work can be dangerous. Proceed with caution at your own risk! Always use jack stands and follow safety practices when working on the underside of a vehicle. If you are not familiar with safe jacking practices and using jack stands correctly, then I recommend you do not attempt this repair until you are. Good luck.

    FYI....If you remove the fan assembly you will have enough room to lift the mount out of place. ( 2 ) 10MM bolts, overflow hose, disconnect electrical connector and it will lift up out of place. Literally 5 min to remove. Much easier than wiggling it out from underneath. Either way this is a GREAT DIY vid. I did the front today. 45 minutes from start to finish. This was the easiest one for me. I did all 3 so far....NOT looking forward to the rear one. Taking a break and I will just deal with the little vibration that I have left. At 260K im trying not to put too much money / effort into the car. Just trying to get to work and keep those nasty car payments away LOL.

      Which brand of motor mounts did you get? I'm going to replace my original ones, just about to 230K miles on em.

      I just removed the two top screws holding the fan in and lifted it enough to get the mount out. I had to do this since I have the 6 speed manual (Vibe GT). Very easy job. I had a shop do the back. 🤣

    Which brand of motor mounts did you use? How have they held up?

      @TheHandsOnChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unbranded ebay variety. Holding up good no complaints.

      I hope the Anchor motor mount from Amazon holds up 😢😢

      I got rid of 95% of my vibration under load, still have a little bit though.
      I'm wondering if running with the right mount bad for so long, might have damaged my right side Axle?

    I want to say thanks for your video , did both motor mounts in under 2 hours

    Different car, but I have a 01 Pontiac Grand Prix SE.
    I had a real bad vibration under acceleration.
    My front mount was real bad. I replaced the front mount, got rid of 95 % of my vibration under acceleration.
    I still have a slight vibration under acceleration.
    Should I flip my dog bone bushings, or replace the transmission mount, or both?
    But some people say flipping the dog bone mount bushings may add slight vibration.
    I don't want any vibration.

      IDK about flipping that bushing, I've never done it. I would visually inspect the trans mount. Get a pry bar and see if the trans moves more than 1/4'' when you pry up on it. If so replace the mount if, not it could be tune up related or even a tire problem causing the vibes. Good luck.

    Doesn't that need a specific torque setting?

    This is great! I now understand what the dealer was talking about. I can't repair this, but I like knowing what's happening. Can you tell me anything about cost to replace 4 mounts on Toyota Matrix?

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember exactly but it seems like it was around a hundred dollars for all 4.

    For this one, I cut a hole in a piece of cardboard and put the middle hole through it so the cardboard would be a backer and I filled the mount with the 3M Window Weld. After 24 hours of cure time, the center is much more firm and resistant to twisting. This should prolong the life of the mount.

      I have seen this on TH-cam before. How is the vibration ?

    • @johnnymoran180
      @johnnymoran180 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cptnsolo77 I don't notice any major difference from what I remember new mounts to feel like, it's certainly better than the wore out mount. I think without this modification the Chinese mounts will fail quickly.

    Why is the hole on the engine bracket that the bolt goes through so much bigger than the bolt? Looked like the bolt was located on the top end of that hole on the bracket.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IDK for sure but my guess is so it has a little wiggle room for installation.

    • @Greenrosettas

      @@TheHandsOnChannel yah that's what i was thinking too. I replaced the front and back mounts and it took the vibrations out at idle and most of the jolt when shifting around gears. Although I still have a clunky-clink sound when I throw it into reverse. Im thinking one of the bolts just isn't in the right spot or maybe not tight enough. I really appreciate the videos they were super helpful in doing this job. Thank you.
