Passenger Motor Mount on Toyota Matrix-Pontiac Vibe

  • In this video, I replace the passenger side motor mount on my daughter's 2004 Toyota Matrix. This should be the same for 2003-2008 Matrix and Pontiac Vibe. The process will be similar for most of the Toyota's that had the 1.8L engine. The shape of the motor mount and location of the bolts or screws might be a bit different, but the general idea is the same. It's not really a hard job at all. The hardest thing perhaps is getting to a couple of the nuts on the bottom of the mount, but a long extension or series of extensions are all that's needed to take care of that. I got this mount as part of a set of 4. If you replace motor mounts, it's not a bad idea to replace them all. In many cases, you can get a kit with all mounts much cheaper than you could if you bought them all individually so that helps too. Hope you can get something out of this video. I'm not a mechanic or auto professional. I'm a single dad who likes to do some of my own work and save a bit of money.

    I love these videos. Great job. I'm learning allot especially since I can apply what I learned onto my matrix too.

      Thank you. I've learned a lot on this car too. I knew the principles from working on other cars, but most of my efforts have gone into Volvo. It's kind of fun learning a new auto platform. I've been really impressed with the engines in these cars. I see why so many people are loyal to Toyota.

    You are seriously a life saver! Love the shirt in this video too... Same school that Carson Hocevar went to, yeah?! Appreciate it.

      Thanks! Carson went to Gull Lake high school. That's near where Kalamazoo Central is, but one little town away. Close enough they compete in football and band though.

    So are the new mounts still working? Heard lots of stories of aftermarket mounts not lasting or solving vibration issues at all.

    your engine is super clean for the year. did you clean it yourself or have tips on cleaning it? my valve cover was leaking and power steering pump. have yet to change the pump. want to clean it up though.

      I did change the valve cover gasket on this and have done some minor cleaning getting things looking better when I first got it about a year and a half or so ago. Otherwise it hasn't been bad at all. I do have a tiny little leak left somewhere but it's so small I haven't even worried about it.

      @@FloydNashFixItDad Leaks can also develop at the timing chain tensioner as well as the VVT solenoid on this engine.

    Just came across your video and I got to give props on the KC shirt. I live in Kalamazoo as well. Was wondering where did you get your mounts from. And did you do transmission mounts as well? What did you do to line up all the holes? How long would you say the job took for you? Thank you.

      This was an easy job. Might have taken half hour. You just have to yank on things a bit to get them to line up sometimes, and that's to be expected. The mounts were from E-Bay. I can't even tell you the brand. I wanted to do the transmission mount. The kit I bought has all the mounts. but the nuts on the bottom under the car go onto studs that are just press fit into the mount. The nut didn't move, and the stud twisted in the mount, so I didn't get any farther. I'll get to it some day maybe.

      Oh and nice to meet another Kzoo resident. I think I may actually have that same shirt on right now too!

      @@FloydNashFixItDad Okay. So my son came home from a school event yesterday morning and said that the car is making a hard vibration when you shift from park to drive and also when you accelerate. Is that what you experienced as well?

      I wonder if mine is the motor mounts or transmission mount.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ernesthawkes5979 No, mine was just normal vibration sitting at a stop light mostly while in gear. As I accelerated it went away. You may have an axle shaft going bad. Easy to replace on these also.

      @@FloydNashFixItDad ugh I had the same part. I installed it and ran good for two days. I drive it today and vibrations like crazy. The part completely caved in at the rubber side. I bet all the fluid leaked out
