This video just saved me $200. My mechanic quoted me $250 to replace the motor. I bought one online for $50 and installed it in less than 20 minutes following the instructions in this video. I am not a mechanic or gear head by any stretch of the imagination. The only hard part was reaching in to unscrew the 3 hex head screws to release the old motor and mount the new ones. I didn't have a 5.5mm socket, so I used 7/32in and it worked. Thank you!!!
Thanks Eric! I usually watch your videos for entertainment but this time I needed to do this exact job and it helped to see the steps in advance. Thankfully my fan wasn't broken, just unbalanced from debris. Thumbs up on the 9 year old video.
Thanks so much! I just used this to fix my matrix. I had to drive around all day yesterday freezing when it went out. You made it so simple. Thanks again!
Just wanted to say thank you for doing this video. I changed the blower motor in my daughter's car this past weekend and your video made it a breeze. Thanks again!
Thank you kindly for this video. It gave me the confidence to saved myself considerable money, after being told by local garages that they wouldn't install customer supplied parts. Instead they quoted me a blower for almost twice what I had already already paid for the same model, from Rock Auto.
Lol thanks David Manishewitz ! You know that is one of the thoughts I had as I cruise through repair videos. I tell ya even if I did this for a hobby it would be one of my first investments. They are actually quiet cheap for a DIY type one. The ones we use here in the shop are obviously a bit better quality. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
Hey, I normally don't comment but this one rated it. First of all concise and to the point. While I could figure it out, this saved a bunch of time and was spot on. Second, my fan motor AND resistor failed BUT I also had the cracked fan like yours. This seems to be a common fault on these units. Third, I found the parts on Amazon for 70 buck for BOTH parts!! Finally, I liked your honesty with your customer! GREAT Work!!
That's a damn visually clear and dummy (like me) proof tutorial video!! Thank you so much taking time showing such a very helpful piece of DIY! After having been noisy for couple of months, my blower (Vibe 2005) started to work on and off. I will have to replace it and will be able to do it myself with your video!
@@winowmak3r gave out as in stopped working completely or was squealing/ vibrating? Mine is intermittent, sometimes fan doesn’t work at all then next time I start the car it’s on. Going to try a $30 used blower motor and see if it changes. At first I thought maybe it’s a fuse or something, then it came back to life for a bit. Have to sort this before it gets too cold to swap it myself!
@@TerminatedEfficiency Oh it was smoking, lol. It's not hard to replace at all and like I said, this video was a huge help. Less than an hour for the repair easily. Toughest part was prying the cover off.
Thank you so much for posting this. So helpful! When I saw that the PCM was below the motor, wasn’t sure how to get it out without unplugging. This video was perfect! Thanks and god bless!
Thanks for the video! I just replaced my motor using your steps. I'm a novice and had in done in less than 20 minutes. Now lets hope that fixes my problem (intermittent blowing motor)...if not i'll be looking for a video for changing the resistor
Great video! Turns out my blower motor wasn’t even the issue. There was some sort of loose connection on the back side of the switch to turn on the fan. I’m guessing from when the aftermarket radio was installed.
Thanks, this made the job real easy. When I've removed my glove compartment I don't bother removing the screw for the damper. the other end of the damper pops off of its mounting point pretty easily, and isn't bad to reinstall, either. So that can save you a whopping 20 seconds. Of course it figures that I cleaned my throttle body at the same time, and then had a heart attack when the engine refused to start. Of course the ECU was throwing a dozen unrelated codes about various circuits being open, as one of the plugs going into the ECU had come unseated when I moved it out of the way to get to the blower motor. D'oh!
hi thanks for the video. question...when removing the seat to work, did you you have to worry about the airbags? did you disconnect the battery? also..main question..my fan works fine if you wiggle the wire harness. is this the motor or pcm connector? thanks in advance
Hi, Great videos. I have Toyota Matrix 2003. I need to replace bulbs of Heating penal. I would appreciate if you could upload a clip how to open/install it.
I had a problem on my vibe, was blowing the 40 Amp fuse for the blower motor I thought it was the blower motor, but turns out the ac filter which in on top of the blower, neve had changed it was air flow restricted making the blower pull more amps, and blow the fuse, hope this helps some one out there. My friends DIY'S
I was looking for the blower motor resistor and spotted it in your video. lost all lower speeds except Full on high. had a hard time finding it. thanks
Son of a gun - that resistor must be the problem on my Honda Accord EX. Maybe. I thought there's something called an actuator on passenger side that controls fan setting. Left side controls vent door driver's side bottom. A few months ago, or last winter, the blower got stuck on high. Will have to rewatch this. (On this pg for my friend's matrix problem.) And I'll have to find an accord ex video for that setting. Might be what you pointed out.
thank you fir the video, my blower for my vibe should be here tomorrow, i will use this video to do it myself. save me the headache. since winter decided to return to michigan. its very cold in the car. now two questions, i'm sure they have been answered already but do i have to disconnect my battery? and doing this will not set off the airbag will it if the battey does not need to be unhooked.
Hey Eric, Video was great and I think with your tutorial I can handle this project with no worries. I think this may be the solution to my Vibes AC problem but, I wanted to get your opinion on my specific issue. Initially the blower motor would shut off whenever I hit a bump in the road and restart after hitting another. Now, it seems it needs bigger bumps to re-engage the blower motor and I've even started banging on the dash (out of frustration) and that seems to restart the motor, sometimes. Does this sound like a bad blower motor or could it be a problem in the electrical connections? Thanks.
Martin Murn Great diagnosis haha! Yes definitely sounds like a bad motor to me. You can test it to be sure but that is what it sounds like. The whack on the blower test is sometimes a good one. If you end up needing parts check in my description box. It is the best place to buy factory parts IMO!
South Main Auto Repair Thanks for responding so quickly. I'm going to snoop around the local salvage yard for the blower motor because they're usually cheaper and it's just plain fun. Thanks again.
Just a heads up for any folks looking to go to the salvage yard to save money. The Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe have different blower motors. I found that out the hard way, but ended up using the brushes to rebuild the broken Pontiac blower motor from a Toyota Matrix.
Hey man. Thank you for doing this. Got mine (2004 Vibe) removed, and found a small dead mouse in it. Cleaned it up and it works like a champ now. I appreciate your efforts!!That little elbow hose to the motor, what is it for? Thanks again!!
Must be a common problem, I have an ‘05 that had a severe vibration at the 2 higher speeds (#3 & #4) and it was LOUD! Pulled it out and found the exact same crack on the hub of the blower wheel (squirrel cage) and even from GM or Toyota, the squirrel cage/blower wheel is NOT serviced separately😡

Thanks for taking the time to cover details, I just replaced the blower motor and fan and your tips made it much easier. No more squeaking : o )
Thank you so much! I just finished replacing the blower motor in my 05 Pontiac vibe and it's hotter than Haiti outside right now! Thanks again 😊

Yes, so-ooooo clear. Sent this link to my friend for her 04 matrix xr.
I had used your video to replace mine a few years ago. It helped. Came across it while I was looking for another video on a different repair.

Mine started vibe-rating too. When I pulled the blower/wheel out, mice had chewed up all the vanes
Perfect video tutorial.
Bought a cheap 06 Vibe, had a bad vibration on med-high, opened it up to find a couple acorns. Good as new now.

Thanks a bunch. I removed my motor in 5 min and found a 1/2 milkbone dog treat that was causing noise on speed 3 & 4. All good now!
Super helpful video. Took less than 20 minutes to replace my blower fan!
Thank you so much for the video. Saved me from removing unnecessary parts during the job!
this is also a good time to change the cabin filter , alot of debris falls onto the fan area.
Simple and as easy as you demonstrated. Thanks for a job well done.
Thanks for the video. Yours was one of the clearest I saw on the process. Able to replace mine and save some money.

Any recommendation for an intermittent fan control problem where off and full on always work, but the low and med speed come in and out?

Just did this and realized I don't have a 5.5mm socket for the motor screws. An E8 female torx bit works fine👍

Excellent video! Thanks!
Thanks man. Great video

My 2009 looks different. Should it be an issue?
Thanks man ,help me a lot, save bunch of time
Very good. Easy to understand n follow u get a 20👍
Just an off-the-wall question 7 years later, could the cage be plastic welded?
