DANGEROUS Way to Restore Headlights?

  • In this video I grab a cheap kit off of amazon, and dive right into silly little tests.
If your'e at all like me, you dont take your health as seriously as you should. Only after I had filmed this whole video did I really look into the crazy harmful stuff I was handling, and no doubt even breathing in.
I'm learning the more I teach, the more I second guess what I'm doing, and why I'm doing it. I'm realizing how often I put my health on the line all to make a few bucks.
I can only guess that this TH-cam channel has taught me a lot more than it has taught you, but if there's one thing that stands above all else, is that you need to BE SAFE.
Its not worth having a cool skill or an awesome car, if the process of building it ends up killing you. Exposing yourself to dangerous chemicals, on a daily basis because this is your job, is a terrible rationale behind needlessly getting sick, or worse.
Sorry so heavy :) Love you!

Well, there are 3M masks that filter the organic vapors. I agree that these should be handled with care. However, given how quickly it works (relative to using polishing compound), I think it justifies the protection effort. The instruction says spacious. As long as there is no direct wind to the vapor outlet, ;the room can still be well ventilated. So it's ok.

    • @boots7859

WTF do you mean by longevity? You're sanding polycarb and resurfacing with a solvent. There is no longer any UV protectant, so its going to be 6 months at the worst, to 1-2 years before you have to do it again. Get some Chemical Guys Jet Seal that will work on headlights over some 2K that won't, and you're good for a year. Then clean your headlights, and reaply with a microfiber towel and you're good for another year. Cermic coatings are good for 6 months, who's really going to remember or want to do that twice a year?

Suggesting clearcoat its dumbest idea of all, not only also makes horrible fumes, its hard to apply and easy to mess up, but in a few weeks with the heat of the light, it will yellow out, not to mention it will most likely start coming off after a few months, just buff it after the sanding and then wax it every now and then.

Using a 2k clear is perfectly fine for this.
2k clear is very heat and UV resistant, it will NOT peel or yellow over time if your using the right product, and your application is good. Do some research, this is probably the most comprehensive longest lasting option.
