That buffet in the hotel was huge, had no idea what your guide through it was saying other than seeing bits of it as you went through it. Never mind the walking tour of the city at night.
@@LudicrousFeed Yeah I picked up some of your translations which was good. How did some of the others go who may not have spoken the language. Although luckily with food kind of can see what it is from looking sometimes. :)

OMG I was in Xian as part of my honeymoon 10 years ago, and also rode in one of those little scooters. We got to our destination in record time and only nearly got squashed by regular cars like 10 times! On our way back from the terra cotta warriors, we took a BYD F3 taxi, which is a mediocre copy of the previous gen Toyota Corolla, and pretty meh at best. That factory looks kinda old. If I'm not mistaken, this might be right where BYD auto started, because they diversified into the car making business by taking over Xian Qinchuan Auto, a small state owned carmaker which was probably the worst car company in China circa 2003. BYD went from making whatever crappy little car Qinchuan was building in the early 2000s, to making that copy of a Corolla in the early 2010s, to now becoming the largest EV maker in the world in the 2020s, where Toyota is now using BYD's drivetrain and batteries in their EVs. Build Your Dreams indeed.
wow my malaysian brother, china is amazing - i wish they would grant me a China PR visa, our airports in sydney and melbourne will never get to the standards seen in china during our life time
Was in Xi'an 2017 didn't see the W hotel back then. The city looked less developed compared to the big costal cities but now looks so modern! not many wore hanfu back then too.
I assume you're Chinese in Australia? It seems that you enjoyed your trip to China. You and your friends are welcome to visit China often in the future.
To the people who didn’t understand the video of the car doing some trials was placed over the talk about the walk though the factory. Tom explained before he started that he couldn’t film on the factory so the video was one provided (I imagine) by BYD.
Great videos as always, loving it. Just wondering Tom if its true Aus Govt trying to do something about software in chinese Cars just like the US govt doing ? How is that going to affect BYD shark and other Chinese cars etc ?. Thx again . Cheers .
Glad you're enjoying it! The current government wants us to have more choice when it comes to vehicle purchase but it could be an election issue I suppose ... thedriven.io/2024/09/26/bowen-says-australia-wont-ban-chinese-evs-as-coalition-ramps-up-surveillance-fears/
Not as yet with the reasoning being that with no local auto manufacturing we as Australians need to be given the freedom to choose from a wide variety of OEMs
Pressure is on from the US from the looks of it with recent media reports; We have no domestic car manufacturing, so there is no justification; but they are now pushing the 'security concerns' ticket. We should not be blindly following the US to support their geopolitical agendas to the detriment of Australia's own interest; and specifically Australian consumer interest. Don't want to pay nor be excluded from access to compelling products to support the United States desperate and cynical measures to maintain their hegemony & industries because they can't compete.
In addition to the above, China is the biggest export market for Australia so a trade war would be extremely counter productive. Unlike Germany (and Europe as collective) it appears Australia hasn't become 100% subservient to US interests.

...and BYD paid too of course. Just a minor omission.
I've been to china many times at manufacturing plants , very enjoyable time and the people have always been hospitable.
They really are!
That buffet was never ending holy moly 😂 it all looked like amazing food too 👩🏼🍳
I could’ve eaten all night … 😆

Hopefully you’ll get a chance to visit one day
that hotel was amazing
It really was
Wow. What a spectacular place. So looking forward to seeing this amazing country before I get too much older.
Highly recommend it if you ever get a chance
Love this content, more if you can
A few more vids to come … !
Haven’t back to xi’an for almost 20 years too, she looks incredible now
It’s changed a lot since I was there last in 2005
I like how your videos are a mix of EVs and travel (hotel, scenery, food) 😊
There’s so much more to appreciate than just the cars! 😃
That buffet in the hotel was huge, had no idea what your guide through it was saying other than seeing bits of it as you went through it. Never mind the walking tour of the city at night.
I was attempting to translate the info he was giving me on the food on display 😋

The food was all so beautifully presented as well
I like BYD
👍
ancient capital of China..... so much history and culture....
So much to see and absorb!
That is Grand Tang Dynasty sleepless city. I went there early this year and most of the tourists wore hanfu.
A lot of people were dressed up!
Hey Tom Love your high quality videos, not only about cars, but trip recording as well, every detail is great 🎉
Glad you’re enjoying it!

That's a very good summary and yes my understanding is the same in that Xi'an is where BYD Auto all started ...
Welcome to xi'an mate

It looks like Xian has changed a lot since I was there in 2017.
The pedestrian mall was amazing
I like BYD cars

Hi Tom, do you have any details on the BYD seal 06 GT? Or is this the same as the Sea Lion 07?
Sadly I didn't get to see the Seal 6 GT in China. It's a different car to the SL7 but they are both based on the new 3.0 Evo platform
Hotel W stands for WOW yes 😂
Absolutely 🥂
Can you imagine what a 3 tonne car would do to hot bitumen in a carpark with that tank turn? Ouch. Great party trick though.

luckily our lost making cars factories were closed a few years back. Otherwise we will be forced to stick with old tech.

Tofu dreg hotel and cheap goodie bag . Says a lot about BYD.
