    I own a BYD Atto 3 and I'm loving it. Not quite the same acceleration as the Tesla 3 but more than good enough. I've done nearly 30K in less than 12 months. Very comfortable and so far very reliable. For the money, it's a no brainer.

    BYD batteries internal construction differs significantly from traditional lithium batteries. Besides using folding technique instead of rolling the cathode/anode sheets to maximise space utilisation, it also uses similar tabless design like 4680 which means there are anode/cathode pairs attached on the end of each fold to enhance internal electron flow to the external anode/cathode connector. Thats why BYD blade batteries are safer and can charge/discharge faster than other LFP batteries with comparable performance as NCA/NCM batteries.

The size of the potential EV pie is fixed, Tesla is losing market share in the U.K. it’s rate of growth is lower than the overall U.K. EV growth indeed MG has overtaken it, before BYD arrived. Approximately there are 850,000 EVs in the U.K., against a total car population or size of the pie of 33million so we are at 2.5%. BYD is arriving with 5 models and engaging with the existing fleet and dealer system to make quick in roads , against Tesla’s 2 models who paddle their own boat regarding dealerships.

    There’s a good reason why even NMC ternary batteries are guaranteed for 125,000 or 8 years or 70% that’s because there average degradation is 2.3% per year meaning 13 years to reach 70% of cause this will be much longer if you look after the battery and usually charge 20-80% when rapid charging. 100% once a month on AC to balance the cells. Hi Sam, I have a BYD Atto3, and overall it's well worth buying. The battery is superior, and your point is valid; I can trust charging while in bed over the garage and revel in charging to 100% more often than not. The driving is excellent (better once the cheap Batman tyres go), and that is high on my list of priorities. The infotainment and genera quality of electronics are poor. Fortunately, you can forgive little annoyances when so much is right about the car, and there isn't a car at any price that's perfect. It needs more range and faster charging speeds for touring, but most of us fly these days. Locally, it is fit for purpose. However, I have done Brisbane to Adelaide and back with some pains, yet think I might drive back to Sydney in it for the next FCL event. I just hope they build more charging stations before February!

Battery safety is the number one for me, but closely followed by what the vehicle actually offers, and importantly, how easy is it to live with every day. I don’t really care that much about chemistry or such like, unless it affects safety. I think the idea of removable packs are a much smarter idea than integrating the pack within the chassis (take a bow Nio). I can see some clear advantages in this regard. Overall, reviewing someones vlog who lives with one of these vehicles day to day is more important. Going to the country may still require hydrocarbons for now, although EVs are getting better at this. • @leiflillandt1488
      @leiflillandt1488 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      First, you have to have the car well insured!
      Second, you have to calculate with a stand still of approximately two months if something happens!
      A video blogger in Finland had a small accident, impact from behind while standing in front of red light, with his Tesla Y. After 14.5 weeks the car was repaired! The shop though made a mistake! When they received the parts ordered, they realised that some more parts needed to be exchanged, and then they had to wait another 5-6 weeks.
      The repair took a couple of days including the paint work.
      Unfortunately, the insurance didn't cover the whole cost of the rental car...
      If you buy a new car, maybe you need to use it almost every day!? Then it will be a quite big problem if you can't use it for more than three(!) months! ☹️

      It's marketing, market positioning and profit margins.
      Upfront you don't want to signal to buyers willing to spend more money on higher grade models that maybe a key component like the battery may be inferior to the cheaper model in some way.
      The profit motive is far less obvious unless you are a CPA. Under US accounting - provisions for warranty claims need to be accrued each year, these accruals eat into profit because they show up as an expense, the longer the warranty period the bigger the expense, so there is a profit impact regardless of how confident you are in the longevity of the product.
      Tesla have figured that the 8Yr/100mi warranty on the base model is enough to provide sufficient confidence in buyers and positioned well enough so as not to cause doubt in the minds of potential LR and Performance buyers that they don't need / want to make it any longer.

    Not only does an electric motor last a lot longer than ice but also the electric transmission also lasts a lot longer.
    Also no exhaust system and cooling systems to have to fix and maintain.

      Tesla batteries are liquid cooled (or heated if it's cold). When the battery is too hot the fluid flows to a radiator at the front of the car (fan cooled if required)

      But blade batteries don't have fluid but Nano Technology for cooling...but how hot can a Blade batteries stand up to 160 F road temps? Non shaded charging area with asphalt at 200F ?

    A coworker mentioned this brand to me recently. Finally got a chance to look it up. While it’s not offered in the US, this seems like a promising competitor on the world market. So far from what I’ve seen I’ve only seen a couple bad things, catching on fire, recalls, as you have with cars, and EV’s. Unless you have a Hyundai or Kia. It’s still a crap shoot

    Please don't perpetuate the myth about the battery. It is not 40% of the price of the car. LFP battery prices are $100/Kwh. This means that for the 82KW battery in the Seal the battery price is A$13,000 which represents selling 20% of the price.

    There's no way the battery pack is 45% of a car's cost now. A 50 kWH pack @ $150 or so per kWH would be only 7.5k or 10k @ $200

    • @larryevans6739
      @larryevans6739 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Likely depends on what car you are looking at. A $10k Seagull with a 38 kWh battery would need that battery to come in at $118/kWh to be 45% of the cost. An Atto 3 in China would need a $130/kWh for it to be 45%. In more expensive markets or for more expensive models, the equation changes. And that is net cost. If you are looking at manufacturing cost, the battery cost would need to be even less expensive.

      @larryevans6739 Yes, good point Larry, and there's no way the batteries of a 80k Tesla cost 32k+

      - show me where to get automotive grade -AA, LiFePO4 cells for $150 per kWh - I want 100 right now. lol...
      (production cost ?? - not cost to retail (with warranty and QA.)
      - no there is no way an 80K Tesla is worth that - perception is key - the Verifiable - Tesla dead battery "swap out of warranty" price at cost, is about half the 32k guess (retail prices are rarely that low for a long miss) - and only on exchange basis with a valid VIN - ie. not available on the open market.

    • @jamespaul2587
      @jamespaul2587 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kadmow agreed, and Sam keeps saying battery cost is an incredibly high % of total manufacturing cost. He's said close to 50% on numerous videos, which is clearly BS. Even at $200 per kWH, the long range Model 3 batteries would cost around 12k, and there's no way the car costs only 24k total to produce. Cell cost is also only part of the total cost of the battery pack, so a reduction in cell cost doesn't lead to the same % reduction in total pack cost, making his claim for total vehicle cost reduction relative to cell cost decline even less accurate.
