Glad this fix is so easy, 360 controllers are pretty durable other than the grips that wear down. Good for the future of retro gaming too, can't find a new controller for cheap, but used ones with worn down sticks are easy to find. Hope the feel isn't too different from the original sticks.
Bro they're literally $5 to get a tool. Microsoft never intended you to be replacing anything inside the controller. If you can't buy the proper tool then you shouldn't be attempting the repair.
Just took apart a 360 controller for the first time today (I have experience modding Xbox one controllers) and wow, the difference in how easy it is to replace the buttons like the abxy buttons is like night and day. Very nice video

Still usable. I use Series X pad on PC now, but i will still buy replacement parts for 360 pad. Is it enough to only change thumb sticks if one drifts a bit? No need to change the analogue part?
Hi. I have a question: are all the sticks made the same? Have a broken controller whose right is perfect but left is awful and a perfectly working controller whose left stick is drifting a lot. Can I desolder the working right stick from faulty controller and solder it to the working one to replace faulty left stick? Hence the question if the parts are same in shape and form and if they can fit regardless of what side of controller they get soldered to. Hope you know what Im trying to say. Thanks in advance!
@@thecollegepicker unless I get my home button working again I will just let it go besides i plan on replacing the Xbox 360 after all i only got it to hold me over till the Xbox series s was in my price point and it is now finally in my reach
Thanks a bunch! Went without a hitch! Or well...literally every single button came off along with the board :D but it was indeed easy to put it all back in and I could at least clean it all properly.
I recently pulled my old 360 arcade out of storage and cleaned it up, replaced the thermal paste and then decided to give my controller some love too. Till I felt like an idiot and couldn't figure out why the controller wasn't separating when I thought I had all the screws out. Did not know about the hidden screw in the battery compartment lol

I got the wired 360 controller. Is it true that the sticks are different from the wireless? I assume you've worked on both. Do these same replacements work with the wired version?

the part that annoys me is microshaft used torx screws so why would they do that when we need to replace stuff every once in a while it makes no sense

Thankfully replacement thumb sticks for these controllers include the needed screwdriver. Mine did atleast.

If you're getting drift, a new stick like this probably won't fix it, I think you'll need to replace the actual mechanism.

Do these sticks have the "soft", "rubbery" texture that the original sticks have, or are they hard plastic?

No, I've opened both and swapped sticks. But maybe there are different models so don't take my word for it.
