      @@Eagle8 Yeah I am not in a hurry to move Smart. Not for a center who will be a role player on this team. A really big role admittedly, but I do truly think that role could go to a seasoned rookie. It honestly depends on what you would have to give up to get a veteran big.

      @robertmichaeljones I'm just saying that we need two bigs. We can scrap and get to the playoffs with a small team . In my opinion, to advance would be impossible.

    Let’s give Marcus Smart a chance. He came in on a messed up season. He’s not a true point guard. He played one season. I don’t think we should trade him so fast. Now if the next season is not good then let’s talk about trading him.

  • @GrindfatherGrizz
    @GrindfatherGrizz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I just have a feeling it would be a grave mistake to let Smart go. I believe he's the key to establishing the defensive identity for our young core. He also has the most playoff experience on our roster by a long shot.
    I remember on many occasions Smart was the reason we won a few of those games last season because of his winning attitude and experience. We NEED that, Vince can take over as far as talent but those times we may struggle to close out games Smart will be a key to us getting over the hump.

    I would keep Smart over Kennard, he is got playoff experience needed.
    I won't make Bane carry the weight of the PG position, he is a scorer and it is his strenght.
    I won't trade for Brook Lopez and less for Smart or Kennard.
    If they can get a center for Kennard, I would select Jared McCain as a back up PG and shooter.
    If they can't get any interesting trade then Sarr-Clingan-Ware at #9. And MLE for Drummond or Bitazde as a back up Center

    Should not trade smart he is our most valuable player right now it’s possible he could make everyone better. He is here for the playoffs. We need at least a year of his knowledge. He is the vet we need. He will make JJJ, Bane, and Ja better. In that order.

    • @robertmichaeljones
      @robertmichaeljones 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He is NOT our most valuable player. Not close. Morant is, then either Bane of JJJ. We don't know what his fit is stil with this team after last year's debacle. I think he could be an integral piece but he is NOT the MVP of this team.

    The focus should be on letting Kennard go and drafting Dalton Knecht! Knecht is a younger, more athletic, and healthier option than Kennard, offering elite shooting and better defense. Use Marcus Smart to guard players like Kyrie Irving and Vince Williams Jr. on Luka Dončić. By letting Kennard go and getting Knecht on a rookie contract, the Grizzlies can free up money to sign Nicolas Claxton or another big who can provide athleticism and defense. Additionally, the Grizzlies should consider finding a cheap veteran point guard with experience, such as Tyus Jones, Kris Dunn, or Delon Wright, as this could prove invaluable in the playoffs due to Rose's health concerns.

      @robertmichaeljones 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hard pass on Knecht. Not if the Grizzlies can get a big in the draft like Clingan or Edey. They DO need shooting, but they need a center more.

    • @terrancemorgan1743
      @terrancemorgan1743 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Considering the current state of the Grizzlies, it’s clear that Ja Morant and most of the roster are not consistent three-point shooters. With the evolution of the three-point threat in today's NBA, it’s crucial to have an elite scorer. Dalton Knecht can provide that and more. Knecht’s ability to score in various ways-off the dribble, in catch-and-shoot situations, and driving to the basket-makes him a dynamic offensive threat. Both teams in the Finals this year, the Celtics and the Mavericks, are there mainly due to the scoring prowess of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, as well as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Finding players who are elite 3-and-D threats is incredibly difficult. The Grizzlies have been trying for years to acquire players like OG Anunoby or Mikal Bridges. The draft gives them the chance to get an elite 3-and-D threat in Knecht.
      The way the game is played today, the elite scorer is often the star who gets you to the Finals. While defense is crucial, a veteran big man could be more useful for the Grizzlies at this point. By drafting Knecht, the Grizzlies would not only add a much-needed elite scorer but also maintain the flexibility to acquire a veteran big man to bolster their defense.
      Donovan Clingan’s passing ability is indeed valuable, but in today’s NBA, having a consistent and elite scorer from beyond the arc is a higher priority for the Grizzlies. Knecht’s shooting would open up the floor for Ja Morant’s drives and Jaren Jackson Jr.’s inside game, making the overall offense more potent. Defense can be addressed by adding a veteran big man who brings both defensive skills and experience, ensuring a balanced and competitive roster.
      Additionally, given that the Grizzlies already have solid playmakers, it makes sense to prioritize adding an elite three-point scorer.This is why I alluded to adding a veteran point guard in case of health concerns. Having a veteran guard ensures the team has experienced leadership and stability, especially during crucial playoff moments, while Knecht’s scoring provides the offensive boost needed to compete at the highest level.

    Bane as a secondary ball handler has gone a bit too far. His offensive game suffers a lot with it. His shooting %, 3 pt %, drive by lay up %.. have all suffered. He gets tired , and for only being a passable defender and not some an above average defender.. Bane as secondary ball handler should be used opportunistically and not as a norm.
    Smart is a good player coming off bench and manage the players on the floor at that time

  • @robertmichaeljones
    @robertmichaeljones 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That last segment is a great overview of what the Grizzlies should do about a big. I personally would not give up any assets to get Clingan. And honestly, I'm a bit fearful of that foot injury with him. I think Edey is the more sound choice, EVEN if you do have to use the no 9 pick to get him. I think it's even possible that his draft projections are a bit low with teams trying to disguise there interest. If you look at all the comments on what teams have seen with him, it's very very similar to what they see with Clingan. Why is he so far behind him in the projections? But I think even trading up a bit for Clingan (if you don't have to give up major assets) makes a lot more sense than giving up essential roster pieces to get a veteran big.

      We Grizz fans have to keep in mind that we are in win now mode, so do we really want to roll the dice on getting a Derek Lively level player as a rookie, who by the way has two capable bigs to cover if he underperforms. I kinda feel Luke is more tradeable. He only seems to be open when 2+ of our big 3 (Ja/Des/Jaren) are on the floor. Role players need to be able to be effective with the reserves not just the stars. It's the same knock on Zaire. Smart was effective with starters and reserves. IMHO

    Jaren at the 5 does NOT work. It takes away his ability to be a roamer and block shots. As talented as Jackson is, his best value is as a defender (remember him as DPOY)? So I don't want to hear any more about Jaren playing center, at least not as a starter or getting the majority of his minutes there. This Grizzlies team is built on being a defensive force first and foremost. They won 50 game two years in a row with a very young roster. It is NOT time to completely change that philosophy. The offense does need some improvement, but not to the extent that you take way the focus on defense first.
