How Jaren Jackson Jr. Makes the Memphis Grizzlies Contenders

  • After coming back from injury, Jaren Jackson Jr. has rejuvenated the Memphis Grizzlies back into one of the best teams in the NBA, despite the lack of Desmond Bane, who's out with injury.
    The Grizzlies have potentially three all stars, with Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr., who finally looks like he's turning into that All Star caliber player that people believed he could develop into. Jaren Jackson Jr.'s defense and his blossoming offensive game are making them a very scary threat.

    JJJ has a block rate of 12.6% so far this season. The only other player since 1974 to have a block rate over 10% and and play at least 25 minutes per game is Manute Bol.
    Of any player season since 1974 with at least 150 total minutes played, JJJ's block rate this season is first.
    Even with expected regression, JJJ is proving himself to be an all-time shot blocker.

    I always got annoyed with how often Jackson Jr. would get himself in foul trouble. I'm glad that he's cut that down. I'd to see him operate in the post more though. Btw, could you do a video on John Konchar? I always wondered what makes him so effective with the Grizzlies.

    • @ohishwaddup
      @ohishwaddup ปีที่แล้ว

      Main things with Konchar are: defensive rebounding, active hands, smart help defense, cutting ability, relocating off ball, high% shooter, willing passer, high IQ, and overall just a high motor player. He has athletic and size limitations that made him go undrafted and keep him from being a full time starter but dude is undeniably a good basketball player and has been critical in keeping the Grizzlies afloat the past two seasons with all of the injury woes.

      His focus is on shot blocking and not on boxing out and rebounding,that's the reason in my opinion.

    • @1utube01
      @1utube01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@damirdamir1180 This is largely true. He is positioned to help, not to rebound. For his maximum value as a defender, he cannot divert his focus too much on rebounding. He isn't planted in the paint like Adams or back in the day Zbo. He is all over the place like a safety. And as you mentioned, he looks for the block so he trails guys looking to ambush their shot, or if he is in the paint he has been coached to jump later than the shooter to take advantage of his length and avoid the foul. This way he can get more blocks, or at least alter shots. But that doesnt help rebounding.

    • @jonsno3688
      @jonsno3688 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rebounder is Steven adams

    • @michaelconstantinemiranda2352
      @michaelconstantinemiranda2352 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get what you're trying to say. But he should probably start encorporating that to his game, specially during the playoffs against certain matchups where Adams is unplayable and he'll have to play center more. Plus in terms of hunting blocks and roaming like a safety, Giannis do that and he still avg 10+ reb/gm. Im just saying that avg 6reb/gm for a 7ft is just too low imo even if he's playing along side another big. Atleast 8.5-9 is much more acceptable.
