First off, try restarting your Switch. As trivial as it sounds, surpringly many problems are solved by just restarting the device.
Settings, Controllers, Disconnect, hold the X button. Then unslot the controllers.
Go to controllers, change grip, hen hold down the button in the middle of the controller, this is going to recalibrate the joycons. Then you can slide the controllers back in.
If that didn’t work, go back to settings, controllers, Grip, and disconnect the controllers again, just like before. Then, hold down the button in the middle for both controllers, and then hold down L and R together. They should appear on screen. Then put the Switch on sleep and dock it and leave it to charge for a few hours.
Also, if you are a person that holds the switch with one hand, Don’t do that!, you might have bent the slot. You can fix that with duct tape.
You can also try to clean the contacts with a can of compressed air. Turn off your Switch and then spray some air on these sides on the controllers, and on the slots on the Switch. Remember that you have to do short bursts. Do not long spray on the Switch, you might damage it that way! If you see some frosting, don’t worry, it is normal, it evaporated quickly. After everything is dry, turn on your Switch again and slot the controllers back.
If that did not work, try to clean the joycons with Isoproylic alcohol. Get some sturdy cardboard or a Q-tip, or a cardboard and slide it across these grooves of the joycon and of the Switch.

If even that didn’t work, maybe the connecting the joycon are really dirty. To make sure if it’s a problem with the joycons or the switch, try to connect the joycons into a controller. If they work with the controller, then the joycons are at fault, if they don’t work with the controller, then the Switch is at fault.
If the Switch is the problem, maybe the pins are dirty. Try to spray some WD 40 Contact cleaner on the pins located here. Warning! Spray WD 40 Contact Cleaner, not regular WD 40. I will leave a link in the description of the can I used. Do not confuse them! Spray some contact cleaner spray on the pins located here. Then let it dry for a while. Insert the joycon back in and see it if solved your issue.
