- Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that help the body respond to stress, regulate blood sugar levels, and maintain blood pressure. Low cortisol levels can have a variety of symptoms and can affect males and females differently.
Common symptoms of low cortisol levels are fatigue, weakness, and muscle aches, particularly in the legs and lower back. In addition to fatigue, low cortisol levels can also cause dizziness and lightheadedness.
Individuals with low cortisol levels may feel overwhelmed by stress and have difficulty coping with daily life. They may also experience a lack of motivation and a decrease in their sex drive.
Physical symptoms of low cortisol levels can include weight loss, particularly in the arms and legs, and a decreased appetite. Low cortisol levels can also affect the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and illnesses.
In this video, Fiona and Dr. Camp talk about symptoms of low cortisol levels in the body and how it affects individuals' health, and how individuals can improve their overall well-being and reduce the negative effects associated with this condition.

In conclusion, low cortisol levels can have a range of symptoms, including fatigue, weakness, emotional symptoms, weight loss, and decreased appetite. These symptoms can affect males and females differently and can be diagnosed through blood tests or cortisol stimulation tests. If you suspect you may have low cortisol levels, it's important to speak with your doctor to determine the underlying cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

I have Addison’s disease and know exactly what it’s like to have low cortisol and I’m trying to figure out how I’m balancing my potassium with my sodium. I’m not on any medication and it’s not easy it’s very hard you’re very drained so I’m trying to learn how the balance things out, it’s tough your world is turned upside down
I have low cortisol. Very very low… but I’m not skinny. I’m actually overweight and have trouble losing weight ….
Same
Same. I haven’t considered that I could have this but I have all the symptoms (besides being too thin).
Wow this is so me. Great vid
Glad you liked it :-)
Excellent video, but I wanted to know more about it!! Please do a second part going more deeply into the Low Cortisol theme, i.e. different approaches that can help increase those levels. My morning Cortisol level this morning was 2.17 and never I had it so low. Truth is, I feel like a truck ran over me.
Thanks for this information!!♥️
This is not 100% correct. Low cortisol can cause weight gain - if years of high cortisol levels go on for too many years, the adrenals stop working completely.
There, the weight begins because the adrenals can no longer handle the corisol. The inflammation begins and swelling begins. In the face, stomach etc. Weight gain can happen.
Yep that's what happening to me don't nw what to do.
describes me to a T!
Same here, and this doctor prescribes intermittent fasting as a solution. My adrenals and cortisol levels tank every time!
I'm fat but my cortisol is low... I feel like there's no information out there for us... everything (including this video) is about skinny people with low cortisol
I have patients in the same boat as you. I find as a general rule intermittent fasting is the fastest way to raise cortisol and a great way to help reduce weight. But of course make sure you speak to your health care provider before making any drastic dietary changes.
I’m in the same boat.

@@KidneyCoachI am overweight and have done IF off and on for the past several years. After nearly 5 months, I totally tanked recently and have barely lost any weight. I also use my bicycle frequently for transportation and exercise. I went for blood work and discovered my cortisol is low. Looking back, I have a pattern of tanking my adrenals after several weeks of intermittent fasting. Your advice does not add up. I remain fat, with low cortisol.
Thank you for sharing.i have low cortisol
You are very welcome :-)
I have low cortisol apparently because of years of CPTSD and anxiety, got used to nightmares at dawn.
Wonder what’s first, the debilitating anxiety since puberty, or low cortisol that intensifies the flight or fight response. Do my nightly nightmares and anxiety lower cortisol, or are they a symptom of a commonplace low cortisol Ptsd parasympathetic reaction.
Decades of therapy haven’t but daily sport keeps me from succumbing to depression/anxiety.
Also important to rule out any adrenal or hormonal diseases.
Thank you for this. I tested low but still have some that works at the right time. Still wasn’t told this! LBP, anxious, perseveration, stressed for 50 years! Also can’t lose weight. Going to try the potassium and licorice, lord knows I’ve tried everything else!
Let us know how it goes. Sending you healing vibes
Damn that’s pretty accurate what he described. However, I do think there is more behind it. I have recently heard about cortisol resistance, which comes from high cortisol but because the body stops responding to it, it gives all the symptoms of low cortisol. Hence why a lot of people need to take drugs like prednisone. I’d really like an in-depth talk/video about that. Specifically how to reverse cortisol resistance, as I believe that, just like insulin resistance, is what most people suffer from.
Great topic idea :-)
Chrousos Syndrome I asked my endo about it and he had never even heard of it.
Why adding potassium to the water to raise aldosterone which is another stress hormone which will deplete adrenals as well. When you can rise blood pressure and blood volume directly by just adding salt to you drinking water? Especially when you are in adrenal burnout and you have low cortisol you will be low in aldosterone as well. That's why it is recommended to add salt to your water. Potassium will just deplete your sodium even more and make you dehydrated even more...
Yes, worry and stress. It’s very bad very bad.
We agree
I'm fat with low af cortisol
Low cortisol might be why you cannot lose weight. :-)
My cortisol is 0. I don’t have most of the symptoms of low. I am genetic celiac. I have chronic Lyme disease. I just learned by reading that the Synthyroid meds can contribute to low cortisol. It is impossible to get an endocrinologist at this time
same
High potassium is bad for Addisons.
Get a stress adrenal test.its amazing how much hydrocortisone you actually need if your below the reference range in cortisol on waking to get you going.i only take 1.25mg or 2.5mg it makes a big difference in my energy levels.without it I'm constantly tired though I work 12 hour shifts.also i suffer from palpitations sometimes.you don't need alot of this stuff.oh And yes over thinking.
High and low have very similar symptoms though?
Thanks for the info, my cortisol is low, I have everything you said except for weight, I have put on weight, I did start 15mg of hydrocortisone tablets years ago, could that be the reason many thanks
You are very welcome :-)
I have Adrenal Insufficiency. Go to your doctor and get an 8:00 a.m. cortisol BLOOD test not a saliva test.. No no. If it's suspected you have low cortisol than an ACTH test will be given. I am extremely overweight. Do not self-medicate by taking black licorice or other natural things that could give a false blood test. That can make a real AI diagnosis impossible. My family has other illnesses with similar symptoms to mine like POTS, hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, diabetes , Sjogren's, B12 deficiency, low testosterone, estrogen, progesterone. There are many factors that can cause extreme tiredness, not just adrenal insufficiency. All my hormones were extremely low.
I have fybromyalgia symptoms years heds my father has CFS to rccx gene theory
It is my understanding that if you have high cortisol for too long then the body does not respond to it thus in turn you will have low cortisol. My theory is that having people point their finger in your face raises cortisol levels by activating the fight or flight hormone. If you watch videos on a tablet/phone it is probably so close to the face that when people wave, point fingers ect., it is like they are doing that directly in your face. Now watch that gimmick for minutes maybe hours a day and see if that is causing your health issues.
Why isn’t the difference between Primary & Secondary Addison’s ever discussed? They are very different in many ways. Why isn’t trauma ever explored? Trauma can leave someone with PTSD or CPTSD. Somatic therapy was not discussed either!!!
Can you make a video on how to increase your cortisol?
Fasting and Phos Serine are the best ways to quickly boost cortisol levels. But if people are depeled for a long time then you also need to look at the building blocks of hormones. Are people eating enough good quality fat, what are the Vitamin D levels like, what is someones DHEAs levels doing.
I have low cortisol but body wise It appears that I have have high cortisol . Im always tierd
I have low cortisal and I gained weight too.
Me too fml
@@ivania1234567same😢
Have you done something to treat it??
No shit, cortisol is what wakes you up and keeps you awake.
@@ivania1234567how did you diagnose low cortisol
I quit caffeine and now suffer from low cortisol. I’m always sick now due to an over active immune system(fevers, headaches, body aches)
Intermittent fasting is a quick and generally safe way to raise cortisol levels. As fasting will boost cortisol. Always check with your health provider but I find this a great way to boost low cortisol IF fasting is suitable for you and your current situation.
Idk if it's low cortisol for me but I've been drinking green tea, coffee and energy drinks the entire last year and quit than later started having issues and did a blood test and got something that said Eosinophil relative and like adrenal gland deficiency
@@KidneyCoachNot always
My blood level today showed 179 L - should I go and see a specialist? I actually went to the dr cause I struggle with weight and rhomboid pain.
Yes if your cortisol is low then you need to seek medical advice.
Where do you find liquid potassium?
iherb sells it - this is an example of one on there - www.iherb.com/pr/eidon-mineral-supplements-potassium-liquid-concentrate-2-oz-60-ml/26012
I think I have low cortisol in the morning but I’m still unsure. Symptoms are terrible.
- Super tired to the point where washing my face feels like a major task.
- it feels like my blood pressure lowers so much where it literally wakes me up in the morning.
- and then my legs hurt like crazy from the lack of blood flow from the low blood pressure
You can test using a saliva spit test and running a 24 hour cortisol panel. Which will test your levels at different times of the day.
Well, do you add potassium to your water if you have Addison’s disease and what about salt?
We would recommend a blood test to check sodium and potassium then make adjustments from there.
So I live in a province that has horrific health care. I went to the ER after adrenal crisis (severe lower back pain, excessive vomiting, violently shaking) and they gave me a req for bloodwork with only cortisol on it. It took 4 days to get an appointment for blood work, so I’m assuming that was enough time to stabilize and not show true results. My AM cortisol was 95 and nothing was said or done about it. I’m falling apart here. What else can I do to heal or am I too far gone? High cortisol in my 20, low cortisol in my 30’s. Zero energy, running on adrenaline. Give me some kind of direction because that crisis felt life threatening.
Find San endocrinologist whonwill actually listen to you. Many are dismissive. I am going through same thing.Cyclical cushings can go back and forth from high to low.
My autoimmune disease (Systemic Sclerosis) ends in "Osis" not "isis" so does this make a difference please?
he's talking about "itis" which means inflammation
There are other factors other than low cortisol that make people anxious like your people enviroment.
Of course, this is just one thing ans a short taken from a very long podcast.
Are you sure yiure describing low cortisol ?The first part sounds like high cortisol.
I'm fat and I do all that.....I have to much adrenalin
What are your symptoms
Can you burn out cortisol receptors so that it can not pick up enough cortisol?
You can get what is called cortisol resistance (Like insulin resistance) so the body creates cortisol but it doesn't get picked up by the cells. So you have high circulating cortisol in the body, but it isn't getting inside the cells. That causes fatigue and a whole host of other issues.
@@KidneyCoach Thank you
How do you raise cortisol?
Fasting is the fastest way to raise cortisol. Phos serine is also useful
@@KidneyCoachI can’t fast I get sweating, anxiety, and heart palpitations and my lower stomach area starts to hurt. Maybe cuz I’m losing electrolytes.
Could low cortisole cause facial motor tics
Possibly, first thing I think of though is Magnesium deficiency.
@@KidneyCoachI get these, but when I take magnesium I get irritable and insomnia. I think because it depletes b1 and other minerals like sodium and potassium.
Can you test cortisol levels?
Yes, you can ask your GP to run that test for you
You can also bypass a doctor and go through Life Extension to have the blood work.
