    I like when steels have proper names like Elmax or Superblue or Maxamet instead of just a jumble of numbers and letters like 8Cr13Mov. Adds a bit of personality.

      That's why Cruwear is popular and nobody uses PD#1. Virtually identical steels, but Cruwear is a "cool" name, so people flocked to it. Really shows you how much of the knife world is hype and fad, rather than pure utility.

    • @JustPorcupines
      @JustPorcupines 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BornIn1500 look at M390, everyone wants it. How many people beg for 20CV? More knives are made in M390, so it's going to become a more known name, just like Cruwear over PD#1. I've never heard of knives being made in PD#1, outside the Mules. I'm sure someone has made some, I just haven't heard of them. In that case, the bias has good reason.

    I've got a ZT0566 with Elmax and after cutting over fifteen thousand tomatoes completely in half it STILL has the same mirror-polished fifteen degrees-per-side edge. It's a truly fantastic steel... YAY Elmax!!

    Nice job moving through these Mules. I agree, these steels all look good so far. I'd be happy with any of these. Perhaps more happy with K390, but happy with any of them. Nice that you have two more Mules!!

    Totally anecdotal... I've EDC-ed a ZT folder in Elmax at work for about two years. My suspicion is that they overheated the edge. The initial edge did not last nearly what I expected, and I had to resharpen. Almost immediately, cutting soft plastic, the edge rolled right over to my horror. After some more sharpening, the knife is actually functioning great, and has been for a long time. I even thinned the edge out a bit and its holding great.

    Boy I could not agree more about the M4 steel not being stainless smh I have the spyderco Bradley 2 folder I thru into my EDC rotation and it was a brand new knife lightly coated with gun oil but as I used it the oil must have wiped right off because just the moisture from me sweating and it being in my pocket surprisingly was enough to coat the entire blade in rust!!! Luckily I caught it right and was able to rub it clean with oil but man, what if I wanted to hard use or just do work with my M4 blade which should happily take whatever you throw at it, I would have to deal with rust issues that easily?!?!?

    Now that the Para 3 LW has finally been released, do you have testing of Spyderco's BD1N steel on your calendar? Yaxell Dragon kitchen knives in BD1N claim a Rockwell of 63. Could be interesting.

      Probably LC200N. You don't want it to rust from the blood, or if you've gone too far, brain matter. Then again, if you've gone that far, I don't think rust will be your biggest problem.
