    With the amount of hype, it’s hard to imagine magnacut “living up to the hype”, but this is close. Thanks for doing the work!

      @NickShabazz I said it earlier in one of your videos and I’ll say it again. MagnaCut it’s by far the best super steel I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned many. It literally stays sticky sharp for month of hard use. I’m also rocking a 64 hrc Dawson fix blade which is around 500$ so it has the absolute best heat treating but still.

    • @martinerhard8447
      @martinerhard8447 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Considering the hype is coming from actual data comparing different aspects of knive steels I am 100% sure it can live up to the hype
      What makes magnacut so special is that its not specialized its good at everything.
      A jack if all trades knife steel. Good edge retetion, toughness, corrosion resistance, to sharpen...
      There are no weakpoints
      And for a general use blade I dont want a one trick pony like rex121 that has crazy good edge retetion but bad toughness and isnt stainless
      Generally you have to do a compromise with each knive steel but not with magnacut

    • @eliteknowledge7298
      @eliteknowledge7298 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinerhard8447 don't be too fast there,
      Have you seen 3V Delta?
      A new heat treat on 3V!
      Magnacut is in serious trouble 😅
      Except for maybe stain resistance!

    • @martinerhard8447
      @martinerhard8447 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@eliteknowledge7298 Jup I have already got the chance to use it
      But both in edge retention and corrosion resistance cannot keep up with magnacut. Also harder to sharpen at same hrc.
      Its overall very similar to regular 3V that is heat treated correctly and well its is basically 3V just a different heat treatment.

    Hi Pete, thanks for this long-awaited test.
    I've got a tip for you on the slippery cutting board: I put a silicone baking mat underneath my large cutting boards when I'm butchering. The tackiness of the the silicone makes the wood and countertop stick and prevents any real sliding. That might help with your cutting board issue.
    Also, what do we have to do to get you an adjustable height rolley office chair with an appropriate height range so you can find a comfortable seat height while you do a cut test?
    Cheers

      @@orangerider2827 Oh for sure, the fit and finish of the Spydiechef does not live up to the price point. Mine is an older version, without blackened hardware. There was a bit of lock stick when new, but it mostly went away (about as much as it can without a lock bar insert). The blade was sharp on the spine and hole, no detent ramp on the blade, and a very small amount of detent lash (I hadn't noticed it had any without looking). I fixed all but the last of those issues myself. Should I have had to fix a pricey Spyderco up myself, no for sure! But, the blade and handle are probably my favorite in terms of form and function, hard to beat usable art :)

    Pete since you have 2 of them maybe try your edge on one and do the Home Slice on the other. Just an idea

    Hey Pete,
    Have you gotten around to doing the KME edge tests?
    Thanks!

    Watching your video it appears to me that the part of the blade that hits the cutting board repeatedly is what actually goes dull first. The rope is not actually dulling the blade here… instead it’s hitting the wood repeatedly with the end of your blade. That said magnacut is amazing. Try the same test cutting just rope without the wood… I think you’ll get different results.

    Well I feel bad for that poor shoulder this could end up turning you into a bit of a one sided monster haha. Then again you could end up on the arm wrestling scene. 😉 thanking you very kindly for this information my arm started aching just watching 🥴 stay safe and healthy Pete have a absolutely beautiful day 😘👍🏼

      So far with what I'm seeing it's the best balanced stainless steel. I have one on order, no first hand experience yet.

      @@rajun50 dont base your whole world around 1 test on one brand. Its certainly a good stainless steel with high toughness. But I implore you to see more tests and don't think that every magnacut will cut as much as a mule, as many manufacturers were saying they are only heat treated in the low 60s. I'm not suggesting its bad. Im just suggesting its not the bee's knee's. There are other tests showing more information on the steel than just Peters videos.

      @@tacticalcenter8658 I'm fully aware there's more info out there. I've looked at quite a lot of it. I mainly buy Spyderco knives, so other manufacturer's heat treat is of little consequence to me. I can clearly see what happened in this test (which is impressive), and coupling that with all the other good things I've seen about MagnaCut is why I said Magnacut MIGHT be the bee's knees. We'll only know for sure once it's readily available and thoroughly real-world tested. This test certainly went well.

    Hello Pete, just wondering if you have any other experience with sleipner other than lionsteel, I’ve never had a lionsteel knife but I’ve had a great experience with my custom knives in sleipner and my casstrom Lars falt. Do you think magnacut is “easy to sharpen” like giving it a serviceable edge in the woods? Maybe with a small Arkansas stone?

    Great steel and designed for cutlery. I am keen to buy a fixed blade knife down the track when some other company makes a more practical shape. Spyderco blade shape in general are suited for rescue situations so not practical.

    Dude your place is haunted. Did you see the object roll off the table by itself! No breeze or the rope would have moved!!
