Freddie once said in a interview, I performed for the person that bought the cheapest tickets in the back row. They spent all they could afford to come see us. It was my duty to entertain them more than the front row. That's classy dude.

During the time that Freddie was working the crowd near the end of the song… if you notice, he looks back when he first gets up - notices that Brian has broken a guitar string so he leans into the crowd for enough time to let Brian get the string replaced. They were a VERY well oiled machine by this time in the band’s career!

  • @michellepetrillo2235
    @michellepetrillo2235 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +60

The guitarist, Sir Brian May, PhD (astrophysics) breaks a string and has to go offstage to get it fixed. The band is so smooth, so together, so in tune with each other, barely anyone notices. At 5:10 in your video, watch Freddie look back at Brian walking offstage. He then goes into a improv part, and you will notice you only hear the drums and the bass guitar. He looks back, sees Brian coming back onstage, and picks up the song where they left off. Brilliant. This level of talent will never been seen again in our lifetimes, if ever. ❤🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸

If you want to get a good idea of how much Freddie was loved around the world, check out the song "Love of My Life" at Rock N Tio. When you watch it, keep in mind that the audience speaks Portuguese as their national language. I promise you won't be disappointed. If you make it through that one, watch Queen at Live Aid 1985. That performance is still considered to be the best live performance in Rock history. And no, it wasn't beer, it was tea with honey. He liked beer but wouldn't drink it or anything else carbonated for fear of burping into the mic - he thought that would be rude to the audiene.

Queen not only was one of the top bands of all time but, also did perfection. You watch and see each musician was point on. And made it seem so easy.
They were not pretenders either. What you saw was the real deal except that Freddie, the ultimate showman, was really pretty quiet, somewhat shy and reserved. He was a man that had alot going through his mind music wise.
All 4 members were brilliant with degrees in various disciplines.
Freddie had a degree in graphic arts and design
John Deacon has a first class honours degree in electronics.
Roger Taylor has a Bachelors degree in biology
Dr. Brian May has a bachelors in Science and Physics and PHD in Astrophysics.

I have watched this song at least 50 times, probably more. I get chills at the end every time. That is the difference, imo, between then and a lot of today's music that is over autotuned and flat. It lacks an emotional evoking stamp on the audience like music back then did when there was no autotune.

This live version of the song has a very different arrangement from the studio version. The studio has amazing layered harmonies which can't be replicated live and is well worth listening to. I love both versions for different reasons. This live version shows how tight the band were - four fantastic musicians completely in the groove individually and collectively. Brian has said that when they went on stage, they knew the songs they were going to do and what order they were going to be in but that was it. Every night was different - that's how good they were!

If you'll notice at approximately 5:10 of ( your) video, when he gets up from the piano, Brian had just broken a guitar string and Freddie was ad libbing that whole part until he got it fixed.. youll notice how Brian walks off and Freddie keeps looking over his shoulder... without missing a beat...❤🎉
Oh, and that was reportedly tea, not beer, that he was drinking 😂

This is one of the greatest live performances ever.
Freddie is happy now, somewhere, that they could have brought you joy, 40 years after this great performance. „I love the stage, it's my whole life.” FM

I saw him in Dallas, Tx on this tour in 1981. We had front row seats on the left side of the stage. When they started, Freddies piano came up from under the stage. It was a flawless performance. That is hard to do, and I have seen at least 50-60 bands in concert back then. His voice NEVER cracked even 1 time. He was truly a talented man.

Omg there are thousands of people who hate Queen, they think Queen has zero talent and is a nothing band. Even Paul McCartney hates them. He snubbed Freddie so bad at Live Aid it was terrible. Freddie didn’t give a damn, Queen stole that show and everyone knew it!! Over half a billion people watched live Aid and they saw who had talent and who cared. Queen always plays for their fans! At the end of the day, the people who didn’t like Queen going in to the concert came out a huge fan! Everyone will always know We will Rock You and We Are the Champions. Those will be anthems forever! RIP Freddie you will always be loved!

As others have noted, the studio version is excellent and the way an older member of the Queendom (me) first heard (and loved) this song on radio. It was very popular at the time and received tons of airplay. It’s still one of their “ hits” that is regularly played on classic rock stations.

Queens set at Live Aid if you haven’t seen it, that’s the best performance. Great reaction to this performance, it’s definitely up there with some of the best. But checking out the full Live Aid set if you haven’t already seen it
