Brian has stated in interviews that Freddie had all of BoRhap in his head. It wasn't until Freddie's personal items were auctioned that Brian learned and got to see the original set of lyrics and music. People often criticize Queen as being over the top, excessive. I would counter that you have to have a certain bold, fearlessness to even attempt the scale. I give them each credit for following their musical curiosity, aiming big and being explorers, ready to take risks. Here we are over 50 years later...
I remember listening to and watching this video for the first time just before Christmas 1975. It was incredible, we had never seen nor heard anything like it before. Queen were innovators throughout their time together, four talented musicians led by Freddie Mercury, the GOAT, the greatest frontman of any band ever.
Just want to add to the previous suggestions to react to the full Queen Live Aid performance. Yes 20+ minutes, but I guarantee everyone of us who has found your “classics” channel will be there to watch it with you. Now that is a reaction I need to see! ❤
I think it’s ok if people make it their own and don’t try to emulate the original too much. Two examples in point are Angelina Jordan Bohemian Rhapsody and Delta Goodrem The Show Must Go On. I love that these women have paid homage to Queens masterpieces, keeping them alive and bringing them forward for the new generations to enjoy. Just my humble opinion though I know not everyone agrees 😊❤
Freddy is doing all four voices in the intro... The Red Special is the electric guitar designed and built by Queen's guitarist Brian May and his father, Harold, when Brian was a teenager in the early 1960s. The Red Special is sometimes referred to as the Fireplace or the Old Lady by May and by others.
Highly educated group, May holds PhD in Astrophysics! All of them have post secondary degrees. Brian May is underrated, he is a serious guitar virtuoso. We miss you Freddie, we're still rockin to ya! ✌🏽
I heard a wonderful theory that Freddie (with his many octave other worldly voice) was actually what in old myths was referred to as a Siren! And Bohemian Rhapsody was his Siren Song (which continues long after the Siren has disappeared). Consider that 3 separate times decades apart from each instance- Bohemian Rhapsody was topping the charts around the world. Seems like a possibility that he was something greater than a normal person!!!
From the internet: A musical Rhapsody is a piece of music of indeterminate length and with no formal structure, comprised of a number of different musical ideas. A Rhapsody is all about dynamics: light and shade, high and low, loud and soft, happy and sad… It’s a story, a journey and usually quite the musical ride. Queen's 1975 epic is every bit a Rhapsody when you really think about it. It's long, it changes stylistic gear a lot and tells a story. All the boxes are ticked.
Freddie started to write 3 different songs but he couldn't finish any of them and then he combined all of them and that masterpiece was created.. The harmonies are all Freddie ❤
When I was a teenager in the 70's they were on the radio and I did not really get into their music but when I turned 18, my friend took me to their concert, and I watched them do this live and I was hooked. Freddie was the most outlandish front man. Brian May, who was the guitarist would jump from speaker to speaker with his plugged-in guitar, they did not have wireless back then it was 1978. I have been a fan of theirs ever since
Haven't listened to this in over 40 years but still can sing along to every single word... song is indelibly etched in my brain it is that iconic. Thanks for this.
Nobody has ever topped the original, although Pentatonix have made an excellent effort. Dr. Sir Brian May liked it so much he shared it on his social media with the simple comment, "Enjoy"...
Yes people have done covers but to the best of my knowledge nobody's ever attempted to write a song in the manner of Bohemian Rhapsody. Just out of curiosity since you're a songwriter would you even attempt to write a song similar in style to Bohemian Rhapsody
You stated it very well. All of their songs are absolute perfection. I agree with you. If, you have not seen it yet, you should view their performance at Live Aid. It was a masterpiece. It was also perfection to ump most level. The other one is at the Green Day concert where the entire crowd is singing this one. Another fantastic view. Thank you for sharing.
I totally agree, nobody does this better than Queen.Period! It is an iconic masterpiece. It took them 3 weeks in the studio to finish this song and there are 180 multitrackings to get the sound of a 100 person choir from the three voices of Freddie, Brian and Roger. This was recorded on 24 track tape so they had to lay something down then record that on another track while singing over it, on and on and on. That is why this sounds so much better than what anyone else does with it. The tape was so full when they were mid recording that you could literally see through it. At that point they transferred all of that onto new tape so as not to lose what they already had recorded.
I remember this coming out - a couple of the national radio DJs (Kenny Everett especially but also Terry Wogan) played the whole thing a ton of times - against advice I’m sure but they were right - everyone loved it! Even my dad played it loudly when he drove us to school. And the video was one of the first music videos to be played on tv- it was all so new and I had a massive crush on Freddie!!
Someone probably already said it but Barbara is one of a very few artists that are EGOTs-winners of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony‼️ You should watch some of her movies too 👍👍
Love that you're doing it. The show must go on is a must. Great reaction and Peace out Cliff ☮️ ✌️ 🙏BTW there's a video of greenday concert of the fans singing this before the show..incredible 😊
Thanks, Cliff - when I first listened to this as a teenager, we didn't have headphones or earbuds... just sat between two low-quality speakers... so glad you get to have the "full experience" with headphones.. as intended.. what a beautiful, innovative song.. and BAND... appreciate your reaction! (yes, we see and hear you Freddie.. but also the whole group...)
QUEEN had to fight those radio stations that were used to shorten songs and not any "weird" stuff. Lol. Boy were they WRONG with what people wanted at that moment, with QUEEN!!!
This is considered the first ever 'music video', in that it was shot on video, expressly for the purpose of standing in for the band on 'Top of the Pops'. People had shot clips before this, but always on film and to be used promotionally in theatres, etc. This clip changed the industry forever and would eventually lead to MTV. Their influence came not only from their music.
Nobody has ever done this song any better than Queen for one reason & only one…..it’s not possible. Queen was/is undoubtedly the best of the best. Freddie is the most phenomenal front man in the history of rock. Brian May on guitar is an absolute genius (on many levels of life) with a unique sound & style of playing, John Deacon a beast on bass with some of the greatest bass lines in the world & Roger Taylor, not only prolific on drums has a 4 octave singing voice of his own. All 4 men have collage degrees & Brian is an astrophysicist who works with NASSA. Queen is pure MAGIC in every way possible & we are blessed that they shared all of their talents with the rest of us. 🖤🎶🖤
You asked for other big hit bands. You can put Emerson Lake and Palmer on your list. They've got a big catalog from the 70s. Welcome Back My Friends, Still You Turn Me On, or Lucky Man. They were one of the 1st big stage production with fireworks, lasers and even 2 cannons. There's rotating drum sets and spinning pianos. They're a solid band.
This is lit. have you done the vid of Pentatonix doing Bohemian Rhapsody - when Avi Kaplan still doing the base line - I really think you should take a butchers, if you haven't done so already (sorry, overdosed on Pete and Bas Action Man and reactors - butchers means take a look in UK slang!!!!) Unique in its own way. And in the days before Iphones - there was a guy who came to our open mic and did an acoustic solo version of this (voice and Taylor 6 string guitar) - and it was utterly awesome. Needless to say he was a professional and had come in with some friends. He was sick. And that was a version that should have been recorded. I am used to us players doing good covers - but he was sickenly good. Glad he was just passing through - nothing worse than someone who makes everyone realise just how average they really are!!!!!!!! LOL Of course in this day and age he would have been filmed and gone viral! That's life - we are all ehpimeral
This piece was really jammin in 25... 1725. Vivaldi ...SUMMER Presto. See Joshua Bell performance . I wouldn't be surprised if you have heard it before.
Every one of their songs is a polished jewel, perfect in performance and production. Their "Platinum" has been on my car music player exclusively for at least six months.
Never seen the original?, the first "music video" (that wasn't just the band playing) this song broke the music industry in so many ways. It's when the start new era of popular music truly started. So many "firsts". 84 track layering (all hand cued) it too 5 of Londons to studios (including Abbey Road) tape machines to get the bouncing echo.
Not unpopular at all. I think they do a very good version. It's excellent, but he's right. Replication is impossible when you have Freddie doing 150 overdubs at the beginning of a song.

just do not understand reacting to covers before the originals. Can count on on one hand the cover being better. You are so big on giving respect to the artists that it amazes me you do it that way.
I'm so glad you listened to the original, there's some good covers out there but like you said no-one can top the original ❤ Check out some of the lives try Dragon Attack from Montreal 1981
Great reaction to one of the greatest songs ever composed, recorded and then performed LIVE! If you want to see how these 4 incredibly talented musicians brought this to the stage, check out their live version at either Montreal, 1981 or Wembley, 1986. Have you ever done Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light? Or 2 out of 3 Ain't bad. There's a reason Queen and Meatloaf are next level when it comes to rock opera.
Angelina Jordan in her performance of this song on America's Got Talent got permission from the band to perform the song and they even praised her for her version of their song 🦶🦶👑
Always have and always will be my favourite band of all time... Love you to check out Ace of spades by motorhead the finest example of speed guitar and speed drumming you will see 👍 👍
hi, just some advice. your reason for watching this was because you had not seen this video, and then you close your eyes for half of it, i know you were getting into the great music but i was expecting your reaction to the video, still like your show,
OMG, I just realized you never reacted to REN!!! Check out "Hi Ren" then dive into his other greats (The Hunger, Chalk Outlines, Jenny and Screech trilogy, Money Game triology, etc...) Your watch count will triple for his fans are loyal. He is truly a genius...a storyteller, a poet, a musician, a rapper, a singer and one hell of a nice guy!!! I'll be waiting. ;)
I Have never even considered watching anyone else sing this song. Some things should not be touched by anyone, no matter how good they think they are.
I agree, that doesnt make any sense, even if a great cover is done, it still would feel wrong.................................im sure of ? he he : )
Angelina Jordan.. she makes it her own and it’s beautiful and I’ve yet to see anyone not like it!
Yes, this song in particular is so Freddie & so personal.
There is no other. It’s Freddie’s story & it can’t be outdone.
Check out Lake Street Dive's cover. They did it for Halloween, in costume as Queen.
49 years later I'm still a Queen fan loving Bohemian Rhapsody.
Have you seen the video of the audience at the Green Day concert singing this before the concert starts? It's beautiful!
Yes! Please watch this...and hopefully you will be glad that you did! Thank you for mentioning this. =)
No one has topped the original, and no one ever will. Queen is a band in its own league.
The Pentatonix version was posted by Sir Brian May on his own timeline, where he said: "Enjoy".

"Nobody has topped the original." For me, The Muppets are the only ones that come close with their version.
Pentatonix , an a capella group,does a fantastic cover
There's a youth choir from the country of Georgia. They give a pretty 🔥 performance.
Yes!!
Just want to add to the previous suggestions to react to the full Queen Live Aid performance. Yes 20+ minutes, but I guarantee everyone of us who has found your “classics” channel will be there to watch it with you. Now that is a reaction I need to see! ❤
Nobody can top Freddie's voice. He was one in a lifetime type of singer!
Queen is iconic. There is no one like Queen.
In terms of Queen covers, there are 2 songs that nobody else should sing/perform, the other one is The Show Must Go On.
I think it’s ok if people make it their own and don’t try to emulate the original too much. Two examples in point are Angelina Jordan Bohemian Rhapsody and Delta Goodrem The Show Must Go On. Down the Queen rabbit hole with thee!
Do Dragon Attack from Milton Keynes to get the Aretha Franklin vibes.
Now I'm Here at Wenbley is wild, too.

Queen, simply magnificent whatever track you listen too, but Bo Rhap..well, a stand alone Masterpiece. Thanks Cliff.
Haven't listened to this in over 40 years but still can sing along to every single word... song is indelibly etched in my brain it is that iconic. Thanks for this.
What a talent, gone way to soon ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾👵🏼 Gmaw
Cliff, I would love for you to react to Queen's These Are The Days of Our Lives. It was Freddie's last music video and it's miraculous IMO.
Nobody has ever topped the original, although Pentatonix have made an excellent effort. Dr. Sir Brian May liked it so much he shared it on his social media with the simple comment, "Enjoy"...

I agree with you 100%, no one will ever touch Freddie and Queen with their songs. I am so glad I was there right from the very beginning of them

QUEEN had to fight those radio stations that were used to shorten songs and not any "weird" stuff. Lol. Boy were they WRONG with what people wanted at that moment, with QUEEN!!!
I just watched Queen “Who wants to live forever” live.
Highly suggest
…And no one ever should perform it. No one can do it like the legendary Queen!!! This song is Freddie’s own personal journey and it is sacred.
Saw them Live in Toronto in 1980, was already a Queen Fan as a Teen, every Album is still in my possession and NO Band can do Live better than Queen

My dad and I painted the living room, when I was 14, listening to Queen's "Shear Heart Attack". They were less commercial in that album.
Such a great reaction.🙂 RIP Freddie🙏 Thank you Cliff. ⭐️
This song is a masterpiece!

150 overdubs of Freddie at the beginning... No joke.
I have waited for this reaction for SO long. Thank god you finally found this gem.
This came out when I was 11 and I was hooked. A couple of years ago, I explained to my 11 year old grandson why he needed to learn it, too. 🙂
Only one way to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody and this is it.Not one person can do justice to this classic except Queen.
So glad I lived at the time they were alive and producing this music! Still know every word and I am 62
This is lit. have you done the vid of Pentatonix doing Bohemian Rhapsody - when Avi Kaplan still doing the base line - I really think you should take a butchers, if you haven't done so already (sorry, overdosed on Pete and Bas Action Man and reactors - butchers means take a look in UK slang!!!!)

See Joshua Bell performance .
I wouldn't be surprised if you have heard it before.
Really cool live performance ... TIGHTROPE from '' ELO '' LIVE COMEBACK TOUR '' 2001
Another beautiful song that not many do is "Queen - White Queen".
Liar live at the Rainbow London 74 is one of the best performances, each member has a solo.
Xx
I agree with your take, I just watch someone reacting to a cover…and stopped because I was like just watch Queen!
It is a masterpiece. And Queen are just so above just about any other band. They were giants.
Freddy was an absolute genius!
Every one of their songs is a polished jewel, perfect in performance and production. Their "Platinum" has been on my car music player exclusively for at least six months.
Such subtle changes in this version. But the reverb stands out. And it seems clearer somehow.
Never seen the original?, the first "music video" (that wasn't just the band playing) this song broke the music industry in so many ways. It's when the start new era of popular music truly started. Thanks for your Queen reactions, so genuine! And yes, of course, more Queen! ❤
Great song and video
Perfection! You are correct, Sir! ☮️💙😎
GOSH - THEY WERE SO GOOD!! RIP, FREDDIE!!! ENJOY, CLIFF!!!
You should watch Queens performance at Live Aid. It is Queen at it's best!!
Probably an unpopular comment. But Pentatonix does a good version of this song.
Not unpopular at all. I think they do a very good version. It's excellent, but he's right. Replication is impossible when you have Freddie doing 150 overdubs at the beginning of a song.
You should watch the crowd at a Greenday concert singing this while waiting for the concert 🖖🏻🇨🇦
just found your classic channel luv ya cliff!!!!
I never knew anybody would cover this song. Lol. Only Queen for me.
Awesome reaction!
even better is the Green Day concert where 68,000 people are all singing this before the band comes out.
❤️❤️❤️👵🏼 Freddy’s 🔥🔥🔥
Love to see more Queen
If you want to hear some great old music and discover one of the great female blues guitarists you should do some Bonnie Raitt. Good songs are: "Love Me Like a Man", "Give It Up", "Women Be Wise".
And now, the Muppet version!
This was before all the tricks they do now! Nothing but pure, brilliant talent period.🫶💙👑
Bohemian Rhapsody is a classic, Queen is legendary. Rest in peace Freddy Mercury.

You should check our Pentatonix' acapella cover of Bohemian Rhaposdy
Great reaction to one of the greatest songs ever composed, recorded and then performed LIVE! If you want to see how these 4 incredibly talented musicians brought this to the stage, check out their live version at either Montreal, 1981 or Wembley, 1986.
It's so great to see those much younger than me opening up their minds and hearts to QUEEN - a band I've followed and LOVED for over 50+ years! Perhaps you would like to react to some of their earlier work - songs they wrote and performed BEFORE Bohemian Rhapsody when they were still seeking the world-wide recognition they deserved. Here's a LIVE one for you:

3:50 Brian May wrote the solo
thank you. Next Queen - Under pressure (Live at Wembley)
They were amazing 🙌
To watch something unique, listen to the 6 minute version of Under Pressure live at Wembley
Take care Mijo. Don’t get frustrated 🤣🤣🤣. Love you ❤️❤️❤️👵🏼 Gmaw
The only other impressive version of this song was 13 years old Angelina Jordan own arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody, and the band Queen were so impressed with Angelina’s rendition they gave her the copyright to her rendition, great song.great reaction thanks 🙏
Such an amazing video for 1975!
Freddie would only accept something if it was perfect. He put a lot of pressure on himself. There is no need to apologize, we feel the same way about this and other Queen songs. They can't be replicated.
That's not altogether true. He said that anyone could cover his songs as long as they weren't boring.
Also when interviewed as to why they were so good? He said we rehearse over and over again until it almost perfect! darling! :>)
Try any song from the 1981 Montreal Concert... the whole damn thing is amazing and for a MV try Headlong and Princes of the Universe.
Only cover of an iconic song: Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge over troubled water by Disturbed on Conan
Postmodern Jukebox does mean covers as well
Always have and always will be my favourite band of all time...

That was a great and technically advanced video for the video compared to the Computer/ digital videos in the 2000s. 😮😅😅
