Randy Mesiner sings Take it To The Limit during this concert. It’s available as a bonus on The History of Eagles documentary - on digital it plays at the end of the documentary. I believe it’s posted as a stand along song here on TH-cam.
The Eagles were bigger than life.. This is one of the best dueling guitar solos ever. Red bandanna is Joe Walsh. He’s a hoot. Please do a reaction to Life’s Been Good from his solo career. He never disappoints
@@markdecker6190 one of my favs for sure. I can only imagine the stories he could tell. Would love to spend just one day with him. He is a musical genius. So much talent. Would be a life long dream of mine.
Note: They were shockingly large in the late-1970s. They crushed Elvis for a time -- something very few have ever achieved. They were overtaken by Elvis again in the 1980s (his post-death comeback, as it were), along with MJ and Madonna by 1984 or so. Music radically shifted in the 1990s for a few reasons, with many female singers and new rock bands taking home the sales, until Eminem circa 1999 through 2007, followed by Rihanna circa 2008-2013 (give or take, I cannot recall the years). This is by record sales and other metrics. But the Eagles were shockingly popular, is my point; namely, around 1977.
Goes for most addictions - "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.." suggest the addictive and alluring nature of fame, wealth, and indulgence, which can hold people captive.
Nothing prerecorded. No auto tune. No backing tracks. Just pure talent and joy of the song. I was lucky to have been alive during the greatest time in music!
71 here and am SO blessed to have had this music in my 20's!!!! What a time it was and almost all my memories contain Eagles' songs!!!! I Can't Tell You Why is one of my favorites along with the acoustic version of this song! You can't go wrong with any of their albums but Hell Freezes Over is THE BOMB!!!!! Thanks for keeping great music alive!!!
Me too!! Aussie here, what an amazing time we grew up in. I got to see AC/DC with the one and only Bon Scott so many times as a teenager in Melbourne the mid 70’s when they first started. How lucky we were to feel that music come up through our feet and frying our little brains, it was epic!!
Literally.... I saw the Eagles in July 1977 at Miami Stadium. My friend's mother dropped us off around 1:00 and picked up at midnight. . I was 16 and my friend was 15. Andrew Gold opened and then Jimmy Buffet. That Hotel California backdrop was gorgeous!
For real! Call me a boomer all you want. The 70s and 80s were an AMAZING time to be young. We had THE BEST, most innovative music of any eras, in my opinion.
I was fortunate enough to have been raised by stoner parents who listened to all of this kind of music! Forever a classic! I hope everyone gets the hint and starts throwing u more songs from this era! ❤
One of the greatest bands in history. they started off as the backup band for Linda Ronstadt. This is a very deep rabbit hole to go down. Their catalog is vast with dozens of #1 hits. "The music made back then is not being made today!" No truer words spoken kid! Well stated... And yes you were born in the wrong time son, but you're experiencing it for the first time now and I'm enjoy you enjoying it! 😃
As much praise ad Felder and Walsh deserve for their ending guitar dual, one should not forget Glenn Frey's haunting acoustic guitar intro at beginning of song and Don Henley's perfect drumming and singing.
Ya, man. That ending was mostly improvised by musicians who know how to play off of each other. But that extro is so magnificent that you feel like you can ride it for 30 more minutes. And then it's done and leaves you wanting more.
Ditto on the Take It To The Limit. Excellent song. The Eagles are right up there with Queen, both of which are legendary bands whose music will live on forever❤
The Eagles in this line-up were absolutely perfect and awesome live. Everyone could sing and play multiple instruments and they were all perfectionists. Check out more from this concert, “Lyon Eyes” a wonderful song sung by Glenn Frey, “Take it to the Limit” sung by Randy Meisner with his beautiful voice (R.I.P. Randy we miss you) “New Kid in town” “Take it easy” and more. Also worth seeing, “”I Can't Tell You Why” Studio 1979, sung by Timothy Smith, and Desperado (Live from Melbourne)Don Henley so so wonderful
Everything this person right here in this comment recommended is absolutely on point. They obviously know the eagles so listen to what they say The only other thing I think you should listen to even if you don't react to it is Glenn Frey doing Get Over it 😁
Yup that's what we were lighting up in one of their concerts or at home listening to the Eagles. Happy to see that those of your generation are finding and appreciating the music from our decades. We may be old but we made music for the ages.
The guy in the red bandanna is Joe Walsh. A legend on his own. Try Life’s Been Good or Rocky Mountain Way. Smoke a joint……. Listen to the Doobie Brothers - Black Water or Listen to the Music.
Each piece is so rhythmic and they’re all perfectly blended and interwoven. It has a vibe that few songs attain and it starts from the very first note and the instrumental buildup. The Eagles could write songs!!! On the short list of perfect songs, this is up there, imo. ❤❤❤
You were born in the right era my little brother. The right era to introduce this glorious sound to a whole new audience. Not all, but a significant amount of music pre-2000s is a master class in storytelling.
I was in my mid 20's when this was around, so to me it was a reflection of life in US, Cold war, Vietnam War, but the Glamourous side was shown to the World, the houses, the beaches, the beautiful people, the dark side of drugs, depression total loss of everyones soul, hopes and dreams was hidden.. Living in the UK was grey and dull compared to the wonderful Hollywood movies we watched about life in US.. so yeah it hits different to everyone and at every age too.
My favorite Eagles song hands down. One of the best things about this group is that there was no lead singer. They all sang lead and did it like.no one else ❤❤❤❤
Anytime I hear this song, I'm immediately 18 years old and riding in my friends' beach buggy on the late a lazy summer afternoon. This son is filled with metaphors, but basically is about the lure of the movie and music industry and California' allure with money, sex, drug, and beautiful women. "You can check out any time, but you can never leave," they hook you with contracts, fame, and monetary rewards.....a True Masterpiece by none other than THE EAGLES.....their catalog is stupendous.
This song, like American Pie, is a song all of us who grew up in the 1970s can sing by heart. It played non stop on the radio. One of the best guitar solos ever.
Every single one of those dudes on stage are rock legends - Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, Don Felder, and Randy Meisner. I saw them in concert twice during the Hotel California tour. At this point, I've been to more Eagles concerts than I can count. Best. Band. Ever. Thanks for the vid... ☘😎
The Last Waltz by The Band is an incredible concert of their last concert in 1976. There are so many legends that come on stage with them to jam one last time. It’s worth the viewing!!
"Now, I'm mad at my parents for not showing me this." And this is why I think it's stupid they and other labels copyright strike. This should be shared far and wide. My kid are 24 and 22 and they know dang near every song from the 70's and 80's because I showed it to them and YT helps them see the artists and not just here the music. My 22 y.o. daughter also knows a bunch of 60's and 50's music. She is definitely an old soul and very much a hippie.
I saw them in the same arena 20 years after this was filmed. The hairstyles had changed, but the music was still perfection! The Eagles were classic even when all of the music was brand new. They were the soundtrack to my middle school and high school years. You will never go wrong with any song they do, but I highly recommend “Seven Bridges Road.” It’s a master class in harmony!
OOOOHHHHHHH YEEAAAAHHH! I FCKING LOVE THIS SONG! And yes, the beach vide. My family had a trailer, beachfront, on Lake Erie. I loved it soooo much - a weekend if fun in the sun and nightly campfires, music and partying! I loved it so much, I even loved the 2.5 hr car cruise to get there. Windows down, sun's going down, sandals kicked off, drinks in cooler chilling in andticipation - and Eagles "Hotel California" blaring over and over, me singing at the top of my lungs! It's an INCREDIBLE high just on the music itself! I can feel that awesome music pulsing through my veins with each lyric, each note!!!!!!
Cliff, I am a 76 yo who grew up listening too the greatest bands and singers, to me the Eagles are the best. My last car had a 5 disc player and every one had their CD in it. I might suggest you listening to their music alone and maybe give your reaction to them using just a snippet of the songs so you won't get a strike against you. Loved your reaction. Peace Bill.
61 yrs old, and yeah...I am a boomer. But our music was FIRE, and boy did we know how to party! ANYTHING by The Eagles is excellent. They never disappoint.
Love your channel & another great reaction. One thing my child is grateful to me for is introducing them to so much music, of all genres but particularly old classics. They now have a great appreciation for all kinds of music & have my record collection. You’re doing a great job catching up & I always find your comments interesting
Don Henley (drummer/front man) said years later, when asked about the meaning of 'Hotel California, said it was about the state of California ... like 'welcome to this crazy place of dreams made and broken and all the craziness that goes with it.' Like 'buckle in for the ride!'
Us boomers don't need lyrics. We learned the words when they played it the first time. It was an instant hit. And all these years later, you won't find any better.
70 here. Hotel California is one of many awesome pieces of priceless music. Search for more. Why? When I was growing up, I listened to everything. Some good, some legendary, with the most not worth bothering with. However , my awesome Step Dad put me in touch with Lewis Armstrong, Jazz from the 40's and 50's. What I learned was that there are priceless pieces from every decade that should heard. Unfortunately, not everything is worth it. However, when you find a piece that is priceless you can listen to it forever no matter when it was penned. My latest is a symphonic metal band from Finland called Nightwish. Ghost Love Score is the best starter. Besides, who doesn't want to see a 6'1" beautiful Dutch woman in Viking PRINCESS Worrier leather.😁
The Eagles a 70's and 80's super group with 4 lead singers with their own solo careers one of the very best! Don Henley playing drums and lead singing, Glen Frey playing acoustic and harmonizing on this song, Don Felder playing the double neck co-lead guitar with none other than Joe Walsh playing the other lead guitar! Randy Meisner bassist / vocalist, best known for the song "Take It To The Limit" who was replaced by bassist / vocalist Timothy B. Schmit best know for the song "I Can't Tell You Why". Glen Frey and Don Henley started the Eagles after leaving Linda Ronstadt. They both have several solo hits throughout the 80's besides all of the Eagles hits.
In addition to the 28 hit singles that the Eagles had, the individual members (Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh) had 20 hit singles as solo artists after they broke up. They were the reverse supergroup. The song has been covered in University Philosophy courses exploring themes of existential entrapment, the emptiness of hedonism and materialism, and the illusion of freedom, capturing the sense of being trapped by one’s own choices.
Don Felder is the one playing the double-neck, 12 string on the top, six string on the bottom. He wrote the guitar parts and plays the 12 string in the intro and in a couple spots into the song.
First off, you're one of my favorite reactors. Not only do you catch more than most but you consistently display an empathy and open emotion about music, art, and general life that I really appreciate. I dont want to get too deep in the weeds as to why this song means so much to me, but it has been my favorite song since I was, like, 6. The Eagles are on or have finished their final tour and I was lucky enough to finally see them perform it live. Only once, and I attended by myself, and it is so important to me. Thank you for this. Just for listening. Even more so for reacting.
This is your new rabbit hole. The Eagles have a broad range of hits-Desperado, Lyin' Eyes and Take it Easy to name a few. They had a very healthy run as a band. But then Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey had big hits with solo careers too. Glenn Frey was my favorite. He was big in the Miami Vice era-he and his songs were on the show.
As a child of the ‘60s…let me say you are doing an incredible service by exposing this generation to the greatest music made through the media they use now, music which they may otherwise not hear! This is music…and your reaction gave credit to its greatness. Current Eagles management may have their reasons for limiting use of the music, but they should thank you for your way of leading the current generation to real music. Much love!
That's what makes music so good. Trying to figure what message the writer is saying. It's hard sometimes, but other times the message is so clear. Then when you hear the artist explain it, Your either spot on or totally off base. It makes you say whoa. [side note] The guy in the red bandana and i have something in common. That's Joe Walsh. He was born in 1947 at the Wesley Hospital in Wichita Kansas. I was born in 1957 at the same Hospital. I like sharing that even if it is useless information.)
Us 70-odd year olds may be miserable old gits, but boy......did we have the greatest music!!
Oh yes.
@@MrGettysburg44 yes yes in every way possible. Just the “A”s “B”s and “C”s alphabets Allmans Beatles Cream etc beat out anything today
With you on that 🙂Even if you have a few years on me
The 70s were the greatest musical decade of my lifetime. Hands down.
Actually, this is a dark song. The Hotel California is a metaphor for the decadent and corrupt California lifestyle.
I'm 63 and yeah, we had the best music. I'm sorry for this generation. I never thought that great music would end.
😢
I am 62 and believe music is for everyone, it was performed by the specific artist but everyone can listen to it. Music brings everyone together.

I don't consider it dueling guitars. They are in perfect cooperation and you can tell they were having a blast. I was 11 in 1977.
Actually I just read recently that the song started off with the idea of dueling guitars and they built the rest of the song around it
Note: They were shockingly large in the late-1970s. They crushed Elvis for a time -- something very few have ever achieved.
Omg hotel California great song
Temazo de Eagles!!
the song was a "insider's commentary" on the largess of the late 60's/early 70s music and club scene in Los Angeles, CA at that time!!
I was in high school and taking driver's ed when this came out - great memories of seeing them perform this live! Great reaction. #WhatUpDoe
Its the Dark side of life.
We appreciate ya, Cliff! Thank you for reacting to this fabulous performance!
A great song from my youth! Thanks for reacting to this song.
I'm only 44 but I grew up with the Eagles and many others of the greats. HUGE fan 💘
J'ai des frissons partout 👏👏🥰 le meilleur solo de guitare de tous les temps ! ❤❤❤
Classic! Classic! Classic!
One of my favorite bands starting in like 1976 in my mid 60s/
The Eagles were so very awesome. They have a lot of great songs. Have fun going down this rabbit hole! Love your reaction!
