Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Freddie and Montserrat became good friends very quickly, they adored each other and Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk of singing with a rock star, because she recognized the Musician in Freddie instantly. Freddie and his friend Mike Moran composed a whole duet album with beautiful music and lyrics.
He is imho the best male vocalist to have ever lived. Not many people know this, but Freddie had no formal vocal training. He spent a little time in the school choir, but apart from that he was self taught. That just blows my mind every time I think about it. He was a once in a lifetime talent, and excelled at any genre he attempted.
Freddie and Montserrat had special chemistry. They adored each other. Freddie wrote this for the 1992 olympics held in Barcelona. He knew he wouldn’t live to see it. Montserrat who was known as “La Superba” passed away in 2018.
Yes it was written for the Olympics…Monsarat had already been asked to perform when she met with Freddie in 1987 to ask him to write a song and it had to be ready by 1988 to be in with a chance to be picked by the Spanish Olympic committee.. which it was …
Fred and Montsy did an whole album together - not a single bad song on the record for sure! So it's a Must-Have! :) My favourite one is "The Golden Boy" (feat. a gospel choir) ... and I love their live performances. "Barcelona" live with the "bells" and the firework at the end ... just epic! Liked your reaction a lot! Thanks for sharing and cheers from Germany.
Freddie and Monsti (as her called her) were so enamored by each other. They performed Barcelona together as part of the Seoul olympics closing ceremony where they handed over to Barcelona (who were hosting in 1992). It turned out to be Freddie's last ever live performance. You can see how much she adores him in this video, they way she looks at him. She was one of the few people he told he was dying, she later spoke about devasted she was. She performed this (with his recorded vocals) at the opening ceremony in 1992 after his death the prior year.
Freddie had always loved the opera …… (remember Bohemian Rhapsody)….. Freddie was diagnosed with aids in April 1987 ……these live performances in 1987 and 1988 with Montserrat were the last time he ever appeared live on a stage. They made several appearances together and did two other songs ….. I personally always preferred the videos when he wears the black tuxedo, and she wears either a black or red dress. You should definitely react to “How Can I Go On” and “The Golden Boy”…. Both are just as fabulous as this one was…… The Barcelona album, that Freddie co-wrote the music and lyrics for, was for the upcoming Barcelona 1992 Olympics….but of course Freddie had passed away in 1991. I do think that Freddie had fulfilled his dream of singing in a opera with Montserrat…… He then continued to record with Queen right up until he died. If you want to do more Queen music you really should react to the Queen Live Aid performance in 1985…… which was, and still is considered to be the best live performance in rock and roll history. Thank you for reacting to this grand performance…… I loved your reaction and how much you liked it. More Queen please. 💕
This gave Freddie the opportunity he had always wanted... to do Opera. He and Montserrat were great friends. Think it shows in the video, just how comfortable they were in each other's company.
Hola...a parte de lo que te han comentado de la actuación de ellos (Freddy era un amante de la ópera y estaba cautivado por la Caballé), Monserrat Caballé era una de las mejores cantantes de lírica (Soprano) de ópera... Un saludo.
And Golden Boy is excellent also. The entire album is a first for a rock star and opera diva presenting a beautiful blending of styles and voices to the delight of both genre's fans.
Now watch the full Queen Live Aid set of some 22 minutes. Charity concert at Wembley Stadium UK twinned with a concert in Philadelphia USA. You won't regret it in the slightest. Queen 👑 walked away victorious! They stole the show! Freddie had the audience in one hand and the microphone in the other hand! When you watch the set, you will know who Queen is.
They grew into such a loving and supportive friendship. Three other song from the duo How can I go on,always makes me cry,if you listen to the lyrics and remember Freddie at this point knows he has Aids which at that time was a death sentence, you'll see what I mean Golden boy,has a surprise in the first half of the song. Freddie is singing himself and is honest. Take me home, the home he is referring to is heaven beautiful song The whole album is great. A recording of Montys (Freddie's nickname for her)was played at Freddie's funeral. Enjoy, blessings from England
Your pronunciation was perfect... and yes. they became close friends, when they met "Montsy", as Freddie called her, asked him to write a song for her beloved city and their upcoming Olympic Games in 1992... they enjoyed working together so much, they did an entire album... ALL songs are awesome... check out more... When Freddie died in 1991, she sang a Spanish love song at his funeral, and when the Olympic Committee wanted her to sing with a replacement for Freddie, she refused. They played a tape of this song at the opening ceremonies.... Thank you for reminding some of us older farts just how truly special Freddie (and Montsy) really were... LEGENDS NEVER DIE...blessings.
I loved your reaction, you were smiling from start to finish! Love this song. The guy conducting with the light sabre was Mike Moran who co-wrote the song with Freddie.
I remember the Barcelona Olympics mostly because of this song and the American Dream Team. Otherwise, in the Czech Republic, actor Jan Cina sang Montserrat Caballé's song Hijo De La Luna in the Your Face Has a Famous Voice competition, and it's an experience.
Great reaction. Subscribing because I want to see your experience with Queen if you go down this fabulous rabbit hole. Besides the other colas with Montsy check out Somebody to Love live at Montreal. One of their best performances and Under Pressure and Now I’m Here live at Wembley 1986.
By the time this was aired for the Barcelona Olympics ceremony, Freddy was dead from AIDS. I had to wait a while to purchase the CD because it had yet to be ready for distribution. A whole DC of operatic arias that he wrote for her.
Actually not the worst pronunciation of “Montserrat Caballé” I’ve heard 😂 as someone who remembers this coming out (I bought the single) it always thrills me to see people discovering the genius of Montserrat. Everyone knows Freddie and he absolutely is a god but Caballé had a voice beyond equal. Together they made the most perfect music. Two completely different worlds colliding and how amazing was that!
The conductor was none other than the brilliant guitarist Brian May, who after his long musical career with Queen picked up his academic studies again and doctorate in astrophysics in 2007. No, that is not a joke. He worked with NASA as well. Montserrat was known for her marvellous voice as well as her good heart and compassionate soul. The tenor José Carreras, also from Barcelona, was a close friend of hers. As he became very ill in the 80s and suffered from leukaemia, his prognosis was rather grim. She visited him often. It is said, she brought him dishes she made herself. Who is to say, she might be a part of his miraculous recovery.
Speaking Kinda fast, , , , Try saying. ------ Mon Ser Rhat Kha Bal Yay. (BTW, for me no matter how the Diva's name is pronounced, it's a most favorite Freddie Mercury masterpiece of mine.) Lyrics and music written by Freddie Mercury and Mike Moran.

I remember seeing him on Top of The Pops Killer Queen had just been released and fell in love with him. A beautiful human being.

I don’t know when I loved a reaction more. Your face said it all. Thank you.
2 leyendas juntas, se respetaban y admiraban entre ellos, fueron y son sinónimos de Arte y genialidad y lo serán siempre.
I was in Barcelona for the build up to the Olympics.
This was playing everywhere and the atmosphere was electric…
Freddie Mercury ❤❤❤❤❤

Freddie had so much talent.
monserrat diva por siempre,
Very fun reaction!
They’ll never be another.
I loved your reaction, you were smiling from start to finish! Love this song. The guy conducting with the light sabre was Mike Moran who co-wrote the song with Freddie.

Chills!
I love the little shout-out they give each other midway through:
Caballé!
Freddie!
Love the expression on your face throughout the reaction. Shock and awe Lol.
You listened and saw a masterpiece. Another one is "Golden Boy" with them.
Every time I hear this song I get goosebumps
Your facial expressions throughout the video said it all! Thanks for your wonderful reaction. ❤
You should listen the whole album. Its fantastic.
If you're going to react to Queen please check out some of their live at Wembley 1986 concert Tie Your Mother Down and Under Pressure 👑
You should check out the whole album. Freddie Mercury not only sang in it he cowrote this classical piece with Mike Moran. He adored Montsy’s voice. ❤
I remember the Barcelona Olympics mostly because of this song and the American Dream Team. Otherwise, in the Czech Republic, actor Jan Cina sang Montserrat Caballé's song Hijo De La Luna in the Your Face Has a Famous Voice competition, and it's an experience.
They have an album of songs that Freddie wrote. Several other songs ti react to Golden Boy, and How can i go on, from this album.
Yes, wau! Be blessed all...
My favorite song on the Barcelona album is The Golden Boy. It mixes several genres and is an amazing composition. Please react to it.
The version that Freddie is in his black tux is the best version
He knew he wasn’t going to live to sing it with her at the 1992 Olympics. He dies in November 1991
Reaction Queen Somebody To Love live 1981 montreal pliss 🙏🏼
Great reaction. Subscribing because I want to see your experience with Queen if you go down this fabulous rabbit hole. Besides the other colas with Montsy check out Somebody to Love live at Montreal. One of their best performances and Under Pressure and Now I’m Here live at Wembley 1986.
You have to react to Golden boy by them and also how can I go on beautiful songs 🔥
By the time this was aired for the Barcelona Olympics ceremony, Freddy was dead from AIDS. I had to wait a while to purchase the CD because it had yet to be ready for distribution. A whole DC of operatic arias that he wrote for her.
Sadly Freddie was weekended by AiDS and they only made one live version - . I don't think it was this one. Nice reaction .
❤
