George did this amazing performance knowing that his partner had also been diagnosed with aids. Sadly Anselmo also passed away. This performance always gets me in the feels too 💕
George is one of the best vocalist of all time in my opinion. George suffered so much loss in his life and I think he never recovered from those losses really. But that did not stop him from being one of the most generous supporter of charity that I have ever heard of. Only after his death did we start to learn of all George had done for AIDS charities, cancer charities, children's charities, food banks, on and on the list goes. He never took credit for any of this while he was alive. He wasn't one of those celebrities who gave to charity just to boost their popularity, he gave because he cared. Just a sensitive but generous soul taken far too soon.
His partner was there that died from Aids watching George sing this. George said this was the loudest prayer of his life, honouring Freddie and his partner with aids
Absolutely phenomenal performance. George Michael was a masterclass singer. You should check out his live performance of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me with Elton John. George did Freddy proud!! Thanks for reacting to this one!!
I miss GM, his voice was flawless and his sing writing abilities were off the charts. George was the perfect choice to sing this in honour of Freddie ❤️
This was a phenomenal performance actually one of the best in my 60 plus yrs of listening to music. George killed it one take in rehearsal and this masterful performance. Definitely one of the greatest singers ever!!!
I have SO MUCH RESPECT for George… In an interview later, George actually said that the day he was performing this at Freddie’s tribute concert, “was the WORST day of my life” (Those were his exact words). Because… at this exact time, the love of George’s life Anselmo Feleppa - who was out in the audience - also had AIDS. (And NO ONE knew, not even George’s family, because their relationship had been secret/George had not yet “come out”.) So, George said that during this performance “I was singing my heart out for Freddie, and praying for Anselmo”. (And Anselmo passed away from AIDS, a year after this.)
Phenomenal! I just hope that both Freddie and George had a clue how much they were and are loved. It still breaks my heart that both these wonderful talents and human beings were taken so young. Thank you for sharing this........ 🏳🌈 💓
The whole concert is amazing from start to finish! On the dvd in the supplements you se the rehearsing this and George nails it. Then you see Bowie and seal and others actually applaud, something nobody else got after their songs. Bowie and Annie Lennox do Under Pressure, which is another highlight!
You might want to check out the remastered version of this performance - it is clearer and there are some shots of Brian May you don't have in this version - May's smile after GM throws over to the audience and they all sing "love" - as it was written! Goosebumps forever given GM's lover was dying at that time of Aids and no one knew what he was going through.
I always listen to your Adam Lambert reactions, and I did like this, George Michael and Queen. George Michael is my favorite performer of all time he is the best I have ever heard so you should listen to some of the George Michael videos too. There is no doubt that Queen is the best group there ever was also, it was a great matchup but I still say you should listen to George Michael also. He definitely is the best I have ever heard
We didn't know how hard loosing Freddie was on John Deacon and it now breaks my heart to watch him, because now I can see that he's hurting terribly. This Tribute to Freddie is brilliant and very sad at the same time. 👑💙🌈
George was the only artist I accepted at this concert. For the longest time I hadn't been able to watch the tribute since it causes such pain.-- Seal was initially considered to perform “Somebody to Love” at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. Brian May did mention in a documentary that Seal felt he would ruin his career if he tried to sing that particular song, which is known for its challenging vocal range. - Thank you for this reaction.
@Zivo24 in your opinion. The vast majority of people at the time and since, believe George was the best that night. Brian May actually said it after the concert! I really like Annie Lennox and she’s a great singer, but George’s performance here just blew everyone away that night.
I was living in London when Fredy Mercury died. The reaction of the people was...I can put it in proper word. I would say; respect, sadnes, admiration.....
@@nickforell1 check out ‘Extreme’ performing a ‘Queen medley’ from the same tribute concert from earlier on in the day th-cam.com/video/BkOoblwXm7o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TwYh0IJM7BZ4QPSF 🙌🏽
This is George’s best and most bittersweet performance. Look up the rehearsal. It is at least AS good!! When he performed this he’d just found out his partner had been diagnosed with AIDS. Anselmo was there watching him. Which added to the emotional weight of this moment. Now they’re all gone. I miss George every day.
I enjoy listening to quite a few singers but when I come back to GM, it always hits me anew what a rare, towering talent he was. He was just in a class by himself. On another planet altogether.
I feel like everyone is missing all the songs George Michael did... so far all the reacitons have been of the most common songs like careless whisper... I have to tell you PLEASE please please check out the other songs in his album...
EXACTLY! 99% cover the same top 10 hits ... while completely ignoring his later works ... Cowboys and Angels, Fast Love, Spinning the Wheel, You Have Been Loved, My Mother Had a Brother, etc. Not to mention his duets and covers ... it's a crime, actually, to ignore his discography. His voice was sublime. His writing divine.
I’ve always said that George Michael was the only person who could and did this song justice. Such an amazing talent. Interesting fact: all the performing got to choose the song that they wanted to perform (first come first served) BUT NOBODY wanted to do this song as they thought they couldn’t do it justice. Stand up one George Michael and that’s all she wrote
For me, it’s George Michael’s fist pump and spin after the audience sings back “loooooooooooove” AND more so, Brian’s smile. 🥹 Brian had almost no smiles on his face that day, and that smile is what kills me (brings me to tears) every single time. You can see the thought on his face, “THAT made Freddie smile”.
Best performam e with such love and respect. He knew just where to singel and where to give itto the crowd. I also love George Michael and IF he would to enter as the new singer of Queen I would not have been mad... but respect that the band said nah, and I understsnd. I saw "them" a couple of years ago as the remaining members came out on stage at the end of their musikal "we will rock you" where they've been playing the mjsic all the long. If you can find it I highly recommemd that
Thank you for your heartfelt reaction this is a hard watch but makes you realise what a beautiful talented handsome man we lost also check out Bowie and Annie Lennox singing under pressure at the same concert x x
For me, the absolute highlight of this concert was Annie Lennox taking Freddie’s part on the song ‘Under pressure’ with David Bowie. She beautifully channeled Freddie’s love of theatricality while putting her own spin on it.
Nick.. this entire concert will blow you away. Everyone who performed was really, really good, although George was the very best of them!! It’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it! And.. try to find some of the pre-concert footage too where Extreme did at 20+ minute tribute to Freddie (and Queen) - which (from what I’ve seen in interviews) was frowned upon by both Brian and Roger, who wanted the pre-concert singers to promote their own songs. But - Extreme LOVED Freddie and Queen and they wanted to show that love.. they did - in spades! Great reaction.. thanks!!
Thing is it took 30 ish people to sing Queen songs as they didnt have his vocal range. This was a wonderful tribute at the time and it still holds up. RIP Freddie and George.
I recently watched interviews with George and Seal prior to performing in the tribute and they were absolutely terrified to take on Queen songs. They all did an amazing job honoring the great Freddie Mercury. Look at what it took to re-create the vocal power of Freddie. The legendary George Michael, back-up singers and a chorus. All lovely additions, but Queen never had to enhance their songs, it was just four guys harmonizing magically together. Freddie actually wrote this song about Aretha Franklin whom he adored. So if you know a little bit about her private life(a lot of heartache) and coming up in the music biz, then the lyrics are very poignant. Check out “Somebody to Love” live at Montreal 1981. Amazing! Also, check out Queen’s early 70’s music, nothing like their 80’s, 90’s songs. After all, it was the glam rock era. So many great songs, I particularly like “Liar”, the live video especially.
I have watched a behind the scenes of this tribute concert, and when George is rehearsing, David Bowie stops what he is doing and just watches George….. it was such an unexpected moment, watching Bowie watch GM…
One of the best, if not the best, live covers by a singer... ever. With chops and feel and groove and all. RIP Freddie, RIP George And this, in George's own words: th-cam.com/video/PkfuQpXjwy4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7CZCjfngDFowAU4c
There is one present day singer that sounds like Freddie...Marc Martel,a Canadian singer. He tours singing Queen songs. He does not have the stage presence of Freddie. But,if you close your eyes, you would swear you were listening to Freddie.
George did this amazing performance knowing that his partner had also been diagnosed with aids. Sadly Anselmo also passed away. This performance always gets me in the feels too 💕
Amazing, I think George Michael has one of the best voices ever
George is one of the best vocalist of all time in my opinion. George suffered so much loss in his life and I think he never recovered from those losses really. Dude....George was the sh*t!! That man could sing anything. A Legend right up there with Freddie.
His partner was there that died from Aids watching George sing this. George said this was the loudest prayer of his life, honouring Freddie and his partner with aids
George Michael was such an amazing vocalist.
Absolutely phenomenal performance. George Michael was a masterclass singer. You should check out his live performance of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me with Elton John. George did Freddy proud!! Thanks for reacting to this one!!
The bit that really gets to me is Brian's smile of approval after George hit that high note and engaged the audience.
George sang his balls off for his best mate. He done himself proud and Freddie. God bless them 🙏
I miss GM, his voice was flawless and his sing writing abilities were off the charts. George was the perfect choice to sing this in honour of Freddie ❤️
This was a phenomenal performance actually one of the best in my 60 plus yrs of listening to music. George killed it one take in rehearsal and this masterful performance. Definitely one of the greatest singers ever!!!
George's MTV unplugged session from 96 is out of this world as are all of George's live performances 💜
I have SO MUCH RESPECT for George…

The end brings tears to my eyes, the energy an awesome tribute!!❤❤ Love George Michael!❤❤
Thanks Nick!
Obviously George's voice is different to Freddie, but it was just FANTASTIC to hear & see him!! He just LOOKS incredible!!RIP Freddie & George 💔💔
George Michael absolutely SLAYED. I recommend this whole concert to you, I have it on DVD ❤ edit to say: the audience was like this the WHOLE concert!
Fenomenale George! Giù il cappello!! 😊
We didn't know how hard loosing Freddie was on John Deacon and it now breaks my heart to watch him, because now I can see that he's hurting terribly. This Tribute to Freddie is brilliant and very sad at the same time. 👑💙🌈

Sad - because nobody channeled Freddie like Annie Lennox did in her performance with David Bowie.

I really like Annie Lennox and she’s a great singer, but George’s performance here just blew everyone away that night.
I also found the duet with Lisa Standsfield and George Michael that evening absolutely worth listening to.
Agree, stunning. Absolutely loved it.
George Michael was a phenomenal Freddie Mercury!
Best Queen Cover ever
Spine tingling phenomenal tribute. Both Freddie and George are legends. Gone too soon 🕊️
I loved your reaction. I love and miss George Michael so much.
Strong goosebumps near the end. Involuntary reaction to genius in music both sung and performed, and written.
The rehearsal is on TH-cam and you see David Bowie and Seal applauding with everyone else….absolutely gets inside and grabs your heart ❤️
Cada vez que veo este video se me paran los pelos ❤
Increíble performance de George Michael.
RIP to the both of them.
Can’t believe we’ve lost both George Michael and Freddie Mercury

The American tv show Eli Stone featured a lot of GM's music. He even appeared briefly in it himself. 2 seasons. I loved it.

He was just in a class by himself. On another planet altogether.
When David Bowie and Seal watch your rehearsal with the look of who's thinking "We're fucked" you know you're doing it right
Makes me cry what talent
You should hear George singing the Don McLean song The Grave
Yes! Maybe it's the subject matter, but people don't seem to appreciate it very much. His live version was breathtaking.
Love this performance so much. Great reaction. Thank you.
There's a video for the rehearsal as well if you wanna check that out.
I would highly recommend looking up The Show Must Go On, especially his isolated vocals. An out of this world talent, gone too soon. ❤

Queen didn’t say no to George. It was never on the cards for either side. He was huge in his own right at the time and focused on his own career.
More George please..kd lang and George Michael …my era.. the very very best vocalists of my generation…
