    For decades, I have cherished the solo from. Glen Tipton in this song. It’s got such piercing and fluid movement, and just sears across every chord change throughout. This is Tipton’s opus. It’s reassuring to see others in the comments confirming this. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to see him play this solo, as Beyond the Realms of Death wasn’t always part of their set. Aside from Victim of Changes, possibly the greatest of Priest songs.❤

    This was the from Stained Class. Written by Rob Halford and former drummer Les Binks. The album also had a cover of Spooky Tooth's song Better by You, Better than Me. Two young boys in Nevada shot themselves with a 12 gauge shotgun. One of them died and the other survived with a disfigured face. The family's file a lawsuit against Judas Priest because the boys had listened to the song. The lawyers talked about subliminal messages. They heard a voice saying Do it. The case was dismissed by the judge. Halford explained how it was made and the judge said it was a coincidental convergence of a guitar chord with an exhalation pattern

Stained Class sounds very startlingly metal overall, and doesn't really have that distinctive 70s rock sound, so doesn't specifically evoke that era unlike other 70s albums by other bands. You would not use songs off Stained Class is you wanted to evoke 70s rock in a film, for example. There's something different about it.

    This is pre "fast food" Priest. They weren't thinking of how much radio play they'd get when they recorded this one. It always begins as music. It always ends as money. You can shoot musical arrows into the air all day long, but eventually your going to need to aim at a bank. This song is an example of Judas Priest at their best.

    It is about a person who slips away from reality and lives in a world he creates in his own mind where he either feels safe or happy or at least content where he doesn't have to deal with the reality of life. Basically a song pertaining to mental illness. Very delicate subject and perceived (as planned I'm sure) by the individual listening. Whatever it's about is up to the interpretation of the listener.

    • @MidnightIsolde
      @MidnightIsolde ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree.
      It's also possible to see it as about someone in a coma, or suffering late stage serious illness. Or an elderly person perhaps bedbound suffering dementia. Or someone with PTSD. But, I think it's mostly portraying psychological malady rather than something physical. The character is catatonic depressive and withdrawn from society due to their mental illness, and in fact escapes into their own psychological reality. Rather like Comfortably Numb, perhaps. The second verse portraying their death may or may not be literal. It's a well written song really as it is meaningful, bit has flexibility.

    Great to see you guys enjoying the mighty Priest. In 1987 when I was 17 my mother took me and my mate to see Priest at Sheffield City Hall ( England btw ) on their Ram it Down tour. Then in 2017 I took mother to see Priest in Glasgow ( Scotland ). Both times they were absolutely fantastic. They are one of the best live acts around of any genre. If you get the chance to see them, do it. Check out their Rising in the East concert. It's on youtube somewhere. That guitar sound always gives me goosebumps. Peace and love ✌ And Metal 🤘

    It's pretty much about a catatonic man and his inner thoughts, which are quite heavy. Not really a 'feel good' track, but that's part of what makes it so heavy.
