In 1979 I had a ticket to see Foghat and BTO 2nd row center at the Dallas civic Center. Not even listed on the ticket, these guys walked out on stage as the "Warm up" band and for the next 45 minutes I stood under Tipton and Downing as they burned the F@#$% place down. As a young guitarist who had just formed my first band I was totally blown away. No motorcycle, no leather they just walked on stage, plugged in and blew us away. I barely remember anything else about that concert. I bought Stained Class the next day and my Bass player and I learned all the songs the next 2 days. Today, my son plays in a metal band in Indianapolis. He was raised on Judas Priest.
I was a 13 yr old kid in 1982. I had started listening to metal bands like Ozzy, early and I stress EARLY Motley Crue,Motörhead Saxon,Krokus ect. Then one day I walked into a music store and they had a poster of the Hellion. I asked the clerk who is that? He looked stunned that’s Judas Priest! Are the good? He said the best. I bought Screaming for Vengeance went home put on my headphones. I couldn’t believe the power and voice of Rob Halford. They became my fav band. In 2024 they still are! Priest in concert is a experience like no other. Tipton will never get enough credit. He is on my metal Mount Rushmore! I have to add I really like Richie Faulkner such a talent. Prayers for Glenn!
I saw priest and maiden, same ticket 1983 it was screaming for vengeance and number of the beast. Nothing has topped that for me cause at the time my favorite bands.
judas fuqin priest the best band ever period!! saw them live twice, 79 and 84 or 5, it felt like being in a mosh pit of bass, electric guitar, and rob's amazing vocals of distortion switched to piercing scteeches, and the fuqin light show wow, of course living in central cali at the time of mind expanding drugs in a party society, my ears were ringing and i could still feel the bass 4 hours after going to bed
Just happened across this video and all I can say is WOW. I'm a very long time Judas Priest fan, and to this day they remain my all time 2nd favorite band (behind only Black Sabbath). This is the first time I've seen this performance, which was obviously from their tour in support of Angel of Retribution. This is by far the best live rendition of Beyond the Realms of Death I have ever seen. By the time I saw Judas Priest on the Epitaph tour in 2011, Im sorry to say that Glen Tipton was starting to show signs that something was not quite right (he was later diagnosed with Parkinson's disease) and you could tell he was playing songs note for note instead of the improvised, extended solos. REALLY WISH I could have seen them on this tour, but I was busy raising small children at the time. On a side note, I've already seen them once on their latest Invincible Shield tour this year (in April) and hope to see them again. ❤️🤘🎸
That whole DVD, which this song is a part of, is absolute fire, you should see the opening, which is the Hellion short instrumental into Electric Eye, do that sometime for a jolt of electricity that will shake the rafters. Great song, that whole concert is one after the other. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
I do like this version but, because I'm old, I got to hear Uncle Bobby when he could still fly high.....recommend the 1982 vengeance tour Desert Plains🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👍
I remember getting the Stained Glass cassette tape in 78' in the dollar case in a record store (remember those?) , loved it so much got the eariler Sad Wings of Destiny, loved them ever since
Rob Halford, the METAL GOD, Judas Priest: The Roots of Metal, Not the only ones, but certainly one of the best bands. Rob´s Performance with Babymetal at the APMAs 2016 is also incredible
The one thing i like about Rising in the East, the stage set up is similar to the Vengeance tour 82 stage. I also got to see them on this tour. *I was lucky enough to shake the hand of Glen Tipton after the show at the front of the stage
This song was like a staple for them back in the day when they were becoming the metal gods. Was on the Stained Class album before they wore the leather. A legendary ballad of all time
Jusy subscribed to your channel,i viewed your last 15 songs and i love every one of them.i was your age when these albums were realeased and i listened to them over and over.keep on rocking
When they mention greatest guitar players of different era's Glenn is hardly ever mentioned. Well those who really know.......we know better.....he is one of the greatest most underrated guitar players ever.......not the best.....but absolutely great. Twin Axe Attack for the win.
He’s old by then, he’s lost his top end. His tone is still perfect though. Even now in 2023/24, he knows what he can, and can’t sing any operates within, and it sounds great always
The high Priest of Rock n Rock n Roll Sabbath and Zeppelin started it Priest transended it to metal JP was in 70s too I grew up in the 70s I saw a lot different bands it was a great time for music imz from SA Tx when they came In the spurs won the NBA championship And the celebration was downtown Rob came out in a Tim Duncan and the and the crowd exploded it was great
Good performance, but the studio version blows it out of the water - Rob's range has suffered over the three decades since this was originally released. Give it a listen.
Its not that it had suffered, it just matured. Also when you re his age you pace yourself to keep the high key points for the global or the challenging stuff in a 2h30 performance. You adapt. He can still do it, its just he alternates to keep himself to do Painkiller or Freewheel Burning etc... Yet even in this, he s doing similar stuff he was doing years ago.
I would've agreed with you back in my earlier years But Rob embracing his lows, and dragging out notes has grown on me over the years. This performance is absolutely incredible
I have to be honest, I don't think this look worked for Rob that well, it just doesn't stand out enough, he just looks like a lot of the other metal/rock stars of the 2000s era especially considering his look from the 80s, however I do like the look he has adopted now, the gray wizards beard sets him apart from other people and shows him as more of a metal elder a seasoned and wise master of many years training in the art of metal.
@@JoseJose-qy3pv its not he s done. In 2005-2008 Halford had several back issues, that affect performance. But he could still do it and still do it in the mature tone he has since 20 years. Its just you don't burn yourself and adapt when growing older, with physicality, to a 2h 30 performance where in the same stuff you have to hit riding on the wind, painkiller or freewheel burning etc... You manage it. And in the first exploding moments he s doing it. As others songs in the set. Its not like it was dead.
No it is not. Studio version is obviously very good but live version is more raw and expressive. If you don't like rawness you don't like metal. You should learn to appreciate both versions or you will be in danger of being trapped in sterile music environment which might eventually transform you into big elitist pussy with bad taste in music.

Honestly heartwarming dude! So jealous bro!
At least plug the band name.
I saw Priest in Cardiff (Wales) on this tour in 2006. This song gave me the chills when they played it!
Exemplary parenting.
Well done Sir.

Best melodic solo in the whole history of Heavy Metal. Period.
Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing are guitar duo gods!
And they play alongside the other METAL GODS!
Tipton's best solo. 70's Priest is the best Priest.
The entire Stained Class album is JP's best album, bar none.
Unleashed and Painkiller are pretty fucking epic too!
@@TheCornishCockney Indeed- but this solo is a different level. I'd put A Touch of Evil up there too.
Long ago when man was King 🤘
Rob Halford..the Metal voice ...i love him..!!!
I've seen Judas Priest 5 separate times in Toronto They never disappoint!
Also the loudest concert I've ever been to!!!!!
Seen Judas Priest three times in Toronto also and they never disappoint :-) :-)
My favourite priest song
They performed this song live last year, and Rob still hit the high notes! The guy is truly immortal.
I saw priest and maiden, same ticket 1983 it was screaming for vengeance and number of the beast. Nothing has topped that for me cause at the time my favorite bands.
Love your reactions so much. Can't wait to rock out with the Priest gang next year !! xx
I have been listening to this song for 40+ years and it still gives me goosebumps!
My favorite priest song, can say that and been a fan since I was 12...52 now
I gotta go with "Cathedral Spires".
They have given me trash can head on
More than several occasions. I love everything about this band. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
check out the early priest robs vocals will blow your mind
Legendary

Great song and performance. This is arguably one of Tipton's best solo's, although I personally prefer his solo on Painkiller as his #1 solo.
Don't overlook A Touch of Evil.
The solo on this particular recording is probably the best version of it

MASTERS!
They freaking killed that. Great reaction. They came out when I was in middle school.
Yeees!! My second favorite drummer mr Scott Travis!!! A f**** beast!
Whos your #1?
Now,Gunnar, please pay them to do "Hot Rockin" LIVE from Rising in the East..(a happy song)
Also Running Wild from the same CD, it cranks!
The ultimate priest at its finest.

There is a reason why JP has ruled the heavy metal scene for over 50 years
I remember getting the Stained Glass cassette tape in 78' in the dollar case in a record store (remember those?) , loved it so much got the eariler Sad Wings of Destiny, loved them ever since
Rob Halford, the METAL GOD, Judas Priest: The Roots of Metal, Not the only ones, but certainly one of the best bands.

Just saw them be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame 😊 well deserved
Abselutely,SO COOL & fun to see both Richie and K K on stage ,that evening !
Seen them live many times back in the day.....they still got it....🔥
The coolest thing back then concerts were only about 10 dollars t shirts were 20.
I went to a tour show in 2004. Whitesnake opened the night. What an epic day!
One of the greatest guitar solo if not the greatest!!
Man, when I first heard the Stained Class album, I was blown away!!
I saw him once in San Antonio in 2017 I’m in still in awe
The one thing i like about Rising in the East, the stage set up is similar to the Vengeance tour 82 stage. I also got to see them on this tour. *I was lucky enough to shake the hand of Glen Tipton after the show at the front of the stage
GOAT, Glenn Tipton..🤟🤟🇸🇪

Metal God's
I had this on 8-track ! Scott Travis is a monster, but this was originally Les Binks on the LP. Robs holding back here a bit from the recording.
i love judas priest
All bow to the Metal God
Best voice in metal
this drummsound is great
When they mention greatest guitar players of different era's Glenn is hardly ever mentioned. Well those who really know.......we know better.....he is one of the greatest most underrated guitar players ever.......not the best.....but absolutely great. Twin Axe Attack for the win.
Yes, bands lime Iron Maiden, UFO and the Scorpions guitarists are all amongst the best ever and are criminally underrated as JP!
He's my favorite metal guitarist ever.
KK shreds and Glenn wails. Perfect compliment to each other.
it took halford returning to judas priest after ripper owens was in the band for Halford to learn to sing in the lower registers.
I had this on 8-track in highschool !
rob = god
Another song that you should do a reaction to from the same concert is “Touch of Evil” I really think you would live that as well. Live the videos! 🤘🏻
The metal gods. Great
that was one top shelf comment
Top 10 JP track of all-time
There's a lot of versions way back in the day that shows halfords range of his voice
He’s old by then, he’s lost his top end. His tone is still perfect though. Even now in 2023/24, he knows what he can, and can’t sing any operates within, and it sounds great always
This Concert lol, Rising in the East/ he wearing Several Phat Overcoats

Me and my wife ( Lisa ) we're at that same show 2005. Queensryche were the opener, and of course Judas Priest took the show hands down!😎👍😮
Go back to the original recording. You will be all the more impressed.
Co written by their old drummer Les Binks
The bass was killing it but at the end of the day rob is a bad mannn
Any band post 1977 with 2 guitarist were probably influenced by Priest.🤘
This song is normally in a higher octave
Rob Lemmy Ronnie Ozzy all legends
Lemmy is punk "his words" doesnt fit in with the rest.. the others are in a class all by themselves
@@archibaldsalyards926 agreed
Good performance, but the studio version blows it out of the water - Rob's range has suffered over the three decades since this was originally released. Give it a listen.
Totally disagree. The studio version is weak compared to the intensity and passion in this performance.
I had same feeling ,but now for me this live is much better then studio

The band is On Fire all show long but agree, Rob's voice is not quite what it once was. The band, for that entire show, never played much better.
I would've agreed with you back in my earlier years
But Rob embracing his lows, and dragging out notes has grown on me over the years.
This performance is absolutely incredible
just listen this song live in 1988

Rob dodged a bunch of high notes.
theg halford´s high notes and in good performances are done...time does not forgive

Its not like it was dead.
He's 98 years old...givem a break....
And he did it beautifully, I prefer this version of the song to any other
Prefer the studio version
Personally I think the album version is better
Do you ever comment a video that you do not like?
Glenn Tipton NR 1
Too bad you guys don't respond to the newest comments. You should
YOU MUST LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL ALBUM VERSION. 1000 TIMES BETTER
