- The points about holding the phone and taking photos being OK is from the old mobile phone laws. Since 25th March 2022 that has changed and you can no longer hold and use a phone, not even for photos. Bit of a disappointing result with the white BMW driver completely escaping prosecution. Let's hope she learned from the experience that phone use behind the wheel isn't allowed. I'd imagine and hope that the registered keeper of the car would have told her about the police prosecution.
When riding with Amy, I was so impressed at her good cycling and riding. I've sometimes worried about some people riding with me to see what I'm doing when I catch phone drivers, but she was excellent. Much respect for her riding, and for her professional skills as a journalist.

Sorry but not a fan of Jeremy , not same calibre as yourself .👍
Bit of an idiot but he was alright here
@@paradisebreeze1705😂 that's everyone!
She lives abroad and thought she’d be privileged to do as she pleased. Apparently she’s right.
that law needs to change,
How dare you! I drive a BMW.
Irrespective of whether they live abroad they should still be prosecuted. If not then upon return they are banned from driving
The EU has (sort of) started looking into this but there's apparently a lot of resistance. In theory we could flag their passport but I wouldn't hold my breath that the Home Office will do anything like that anytime soon.
Meanwhile as a Romanian manager once told me, it's great driving a foreign registered car here in the UK.
@@loc4725 All the EU and the UK have different licencing arrangements, and different penalties, so it would be impossible to give say, a French driver 6 points on his licence for phone use.
European countries can, and do chase up financial penalties, such as a fine for speeding. French police will take you to a cash machine to pay an on-the-spot speeding fine.
Simples, impound the car or put a ‘note’ on it so our uniformed friends can give them a hard time….
Issue the driver with the six points recorded in the UK.
Upon a second UK six-point offence their foreign driving licence is deemed no longer valid.
Obviously there would need to be a mechanism in place to undertake.
However, at least it provides an opportunity to halt the worst offenders visiting the UK.
A Romanian lorry driver hit my car causing damage but the police said there’s not enough evidence, so a hit and run and gets away with it.
Not often you see “professional skills as a journalist” in the context of the daily mirror!
I miss Gandalf corner, a bit more exciting to watch!
It’s dead now I can’t lie because everyone knows about that guy now so no point him being deya. Plus there r other cyclists that also do what he does.
@@Giggodimpzreally😂😂 did this guy just cure that corner they all know now or what
Keep up the good work. I used to cycle but it's becoming unsafe
My father stopped cycling the thirty-mile round trip to visit at the age of ninety.
A lifelong cyclist he no longer felt safe due to the huge increase in rural traffic.
@@archstanton5603 Most people aren't fit to drive at 90 neverminded cycle 39 miles...
Full of great moments in this one. Kind of the lady in the little car mentioning about the cycle lane. Said it without getting angry, shouting, swearing etc. Both sides stayed nice.
Well done mikey
Great stuff Mikey. Stay safe mate.
Great day for you. I'm glad that you're getting some recognition. Good job. The greatest value of your efforts is chronicling antisocial drivers for their inevitable future victims. All the best regards to you 🙏
More great work from you Mikey and your approach to what you do. Mr Vine, on the other hand, I can’t stand, he looks for confrontation and blows simple things out of proportion
In Australia you can't even HOLD a phone, nor be distracted by looking at a phone that your passenger is holding. It makes it less ambiguous even if a bit over the top... but I don't mind. I stick my phone in the centre arm rest and use CarPlay for interaction if absolutely necessary.
One of the graphics from a study indicates carplay is more of a distraction than texting
88 so far in 2023?! Could be on for a record year!
Jeremy has not always spoken of you in glowing terms, he once described you as cycling dangerously in traffic
@@ThatLeeNoble JV is a cretin; fact.
@@ThatLeeNoble dark clothing stands out better on sunny days than hi - vis.
@@bamcc953 didn't know arseholes were colourblind , cheers
I appreciate what you do Mikey, I see drivers almost daily on their phones and as a driver it really frustrates me. I also see cyclists doing really dumb stuff to endanger themselves and others too. You unknowingly captured such a moment at 5:56 while you were chatting to the journalists as someone cycled past in the "look, no hands" position 🤦🏻♂️
CyclingMikey- can you please do a video where you show all the cameras and the setup you have to catch drivers like this? It would help other amateur cyclists get on board with what you’re doing
Hello to you, Please view my comments. I would be very interested in what think concerning my comments.
Thanks.
Peace to all.
Having a national newspaper covering you means phone usage while driving should be get more public attention and hopefully more and more people will not use their phones while driving.
You'd hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.
Its not the first one, hes had journalists shadowing him before.
I've seen some of jeremy's videos and they're a joke, he exaggerates everything like a scared child
I think I'm going to disagree with you there. He's not perfect (neither am I), but he's reasonably good. Most of his videos show bad driving and I think they might look like an exaggeration if you're not used to the focal length of a 360 camera. His incidents often seem reportable to me. That said the throwing of a cigarette butt by a driver from yesterday/today seemed a bit pointless to me.
@@CyclingMikey Jeremy Vine is pointless. He’s grossly overrated and grossly overpaid.
@@CyclingMikey I'm sure he'd earn much more respect by just posting the raw footage, even if it was linked or at the end of his clip to show the events as they happen. It's not the 360 view that is the exaggeration it's the zooming in and out to create false perception of a near miss that just didn't happen.
You're close to perfect Mikey and you do this for the right reasons, you're not in the same league as JV!
@@CyclingMikey There's a good reason the police want unedited, raw data and not the manipulated stuff JV puts up. In fact, they won't accept anything but raw footage. That's why your stuff is head and shoulders above his.
@@CyclingMikey yes you are far from perfect same as JV is. He's excited to stops for a chat and he's mindlessly blocking half of the cycle path. You dont care either the self importance overrides the self awareness. It was brief chat but you both lacking of self awareness imho
No more filming with VINE in it otherwise i not subscribe
Keep it up mate, i see phone users everyday when I'm out on the bike. They really don't seem to care its against the law
That's why I like Mikey's work so much - those types of driver WILL care when they get their 6 points
respect to you both thank you for trying to make the roads safer for everyone
Yet another brilliant vlog Mikey keep up the good work you do rgds Alan
It’s always the people with nice cars that get away with it
That beemer is peanuts . Probably on finance too
Abroad or not she should have a penalty waiting for her at the airport when she returns. Imagine coming into the country on a plane and they won't let her through immigration until she had paid a fine for the offence? Jeremy Vine was right' you do make the city a safer place! Thanks
‘I don’t go out looking for it [trouble]’ Ohhh please Jeremy don’t lie to yourself.
She also drove through a red light.
She's pretty at least.
id love to stand there and wait with a shopping trolley and walk out infront of a phone user crawling whilst on the phone
Go catch them, Mike! Love the Jaws music as you home in… :-)
Ride safe and keep well
You legend Mikey
Keep up the good work!
Cheers
Was the lady with you at the start the mysterious oboe player? 😃
(Jaws theme)
Jeremy V is ok and very easy to listen to on the Radio, but getting his Brother on and telling 500 jokes in the 9 minute video would have been an exceptional Video, anyway once again nice work Mikey
I love what you do Mikey (and the way you do it). Can't stand Jeremy Vine though! 😁 So... 😬
Keep up the good work, my friend.
Cyclists need a number plate, imo! They do get away with a lot, but I support what you do 💜
Vine has a flashing red light on his right hand, no doubt it works well when he's signalling a right manoeuvre, but not legal when his hand is on the handlbar. It is an offence to show a red light to the front of a vehicle (including a reflector) .
Good work mikey, keep up the hard work 👍
Keep up the great work Mikey.
A great video Mikey and what nice people to talk to.
I really dislike J.V. love you though Mikey ☺️
go mikey chatting all the ladies up lol
That road is a seam of gold. Such rich pickings. Drivers just can't leave it alone. As a result drivers lose spacial awareness because they aren't aware Mikeys right next to them. Speaks for itself and clearly demonstrates just how dangerous it is.
Vine looks like a techno teletubby . Surely he's at risk of a lighting strike with that on his noggin
Really great stuff there Mikey and it's great to see the camaraderie between you and the two very decent friendly journalists and even with Jeremy Vine! Have to also say, I'm currently back in my other homeland of Vancouver Canada and as beautiful as it is, loved seeing London and the park in your video. I'm back in England in just over a week's time but your video was a lovely reconnection with the UK which is also home for me. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
Imagine being so engrossed that your peripheral vision disappears and you fail to spot a huge cyclist shadow appearing multiple times!
I think the fact that you can be sitting on a bike literally right outside the car window and not be noticed proves they are distracted.
People can’t put their phone down for 5 minutes.
Why has Mr Vine got a red light on his finger? When his hands are on the bars does that not count as displaying a red light on the front of the bike/facing forwards?
@De Rekarts probably the red light facing forwards when gripping the handlebar correctly gave him that idea.
To Mikey, I often thought if many members of the Public did what you do with the same professional attention etc.
concerning Driving/Mobile phones etc.
When these Drivers are convicted and fined by the Courts, I believe
a percentage % the fine should go to the member of the
Public ( "Reward " )who initially brought about the evidence/Conviction.
Hope I've explained all this very well !!
I'm sure my " idea " would bring many
more Conviction numbers.
Some would say the whole " suggestion
is somehow sneaky " I don't care.
Anyway, Peace to all.
Several cars windows you've filmed through recently seem to have a particularly dark tint. I suspect they aren't legal either (or safe)
I believe law states: rear windows OK/ Can, be tinted but not front windows/ windscreen.
@@alankirkby465 that's correct, Mikey films through the drivers side window.
@De Rekarts it's the same film - police officers would need to give shit though as they have equipment to measure the legality of the tint and it would need measuring.
You would need to be able measure the percentage of visible light which passes through the window (known as visible light transmission - VLT) which requires a specialist measurement tool placed either side of the glass.
Doubt if any motorist woyld stop and let you do this.
@@FFVoyager Remarkably some do have tintometers. Online abuse then ensues when police forces show them being used and drivers prosecuted.
How many people can say they've saved someone's life? Mikey might have done that on a number of occasions. Anyone who disagrees with his methods are true phone users behind the wheel and deserve their car and phone crushed.
Hi Mikey,
Is there anything written down that says you can legally photograph or video whilst driving?
I’m talking using a Go-Pro not a phone, btw.
Thanks!👍
Laws aren't written to say what you can do. They tell you what you can't do. There's nothing that's says you can't film while driving but don't have it in your hand or blocking your view.
you can use a chest strap mounted go pro and that will be perfectly legal provided you aint looking at the screen whiklst the car is on. Hope this helps!
It's called a dash cam.
Since when was a Go-Pro a dash cam?🤣🤣🤣
hell do anything for publicity. he rides into trafic then blames drivers, what a womble
The Sunday Mirror, I hope I haven't missed the issue with your interview in it. I don't normally buy the Sunday issues of newspapers.
Nice to see you meet Jeremy Vine Mikey.
That's so funny "The whatsapp gap" !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The scary part is she didn’t even know you were there and she’s driving a motor vehicle
That moped rider blowing kisses?
Yeah, I was a bit puzzled by that myself!
"absolutely gold standard evidence"
Sadly that doesn't always matter.
I find from the videos I've seen of Jeremy Vine that he takes a very dominant, aggressive position when encountering a problem. This in my opinion puts him in more danger than he might otherwise find himself.
I know Cycling Mikey, But Jeremy who?
So what about both hands on wheel unless operating a major control, how is a phone a major control?
One person I’ve no time for I’m seen him in action, crying
Nice video till that Ahole came along
The Mirr🤡r and Vine, what a combo!
You should consider bringing out a few items of merchandise to support your channel. I’d definitely buy a sticker or something. 👍👍👍
Jezza was rocking a strong look there!
As you were approaching I just *knew* it would be the BMW..
Great Work Michael. You need an assistant...Jeremy ?😁😁
Beautiful blue sky day!
Why does Jeremy Vine have a red light facing forward?
Cos he's a Bellend
I love that "The what's app gap"
Ask that girl out, she is beautiful 🎉
I doubt he's her type.
Yes, but you live once, it is worth a try, if you don’t have a go, you never know…
I believe cyclists were always allowed to use the highway as well as designated cycleways?
Hey Mikey, just letting you know, youre awesome, greetings and support from Germany!
Danke schön!
that photographer's hair is triumphant
Good job mikey #kingtabzmovieclips
Went through a red light as well…😢
thank you for doing superb safety work while providing wonderful entertainment for us viewers 🙂
vine looks absolutely knackered
Something a bit off about those journalists…something about them just seemed slimy, no idea why but then they do actually work for a newspaper that engages in some pretty unpleasant practices to get material or has done in the past
These two both struck me as decent human beings. I was happy to spend a few hours with them.
Go Mikey 😊
Watched up to 5:45 then turned this off.. Vine is someone I don’t want to see or hear thanks Mikey
Self entitled Tw@ts in PCP rental cars thinking that they are above the Law! Keep it up Mikey 👌
One thing that's really apparent, is how pedestrians and cyclists treat each as fellow human beings whilst a lot of car drivers come across as self-righteous, bigoted individuals that see everyone else as inferior to them.....it seems to be a psychological thing that takes over once a person is encased in armour and powered by 100 horses or so, very medieval.
Doing a great job.🎉
The driver of HV180XK should not be allowed to have a driving licence. At least a 12-month ban.
Well done Mikey and keep up the great work you do. Stay safe 👍👍👍
You should get a zoom in camera Mikey 👍
Mikey rubbing shoulders with nice people getting respect promoting safety
Much love from The Chief x
Bravo, mr. M.
What about german plates mikey ?
Go get 'em Mikey. She was arrogant, haughty, angry, dismissive and selfish; typical entitled princess. Would she act that way if you were a police officer?
….and then she jumped the light.
(Amber means STOP)
Yes she should have stopped but let's get it right, amber means stop if safe to do so.
I'm sorry Mikey but if Terry or John in their van are good enough for you to tap on the window, you had plenty of time with the white BMW, I honestly believe you bottled it and not treating her the same way means you do differentiate based on some characteristic.
You are making the world safer ❤
Holding a mobile phone whilst driving is illegal and that includes taking pictures. As long as it is in a cradle you can touch it but you could still be charged with driving without due care and attention if the police believe you have been distracted by it.
That is true now, but when this video was made it wasn't
The video description mentions this- laws changed in March 2022.
That driver beeping at you to get out the way, not being able to see beyond the end of her bonnet at the queue of traffic ahead. Stupid, entitled, and wrong.
Upon return they should offer her to pay the fine or be banned from returning back
Why should foreigners get away with breaking our rules? If you go to Spain without a first aid kit - you get a LARGE fine. Fair enough. If you come to a country, you respect their rules.
The Highway Code change has only clarified what was always been the law anyway with respect to cycle lanes.
Totally unaware of anything going on outside of the car... doesn't see you, your shadow on her offside, pulls away without looking. Totally distracted for what? Scrolling through some historical conversations....
Keep safe chap
