Just traded in my 2018 M2 Competition, for the M240i G42 xdrive. I loved my M2, but I went for the G42 because of 4x4 and what a fantastic car, it is. The power is unbelievable, and I’m pretty sure that the figures from BMW are understated. I love the idrive 8 system, and the interior is awesome; I got the thundernight metallic livery, and I’ve never had so many compliments for a car that I’ve owned. It certainly turns heads, and looks much more impressive live than in pictures; I couldn’t have made a better choice🔥
@@quaaludes7740have to agree. Having driven both, the M240i for UK roads is the better car. On the road, an average driver in the M240i would out perform another average driver in an M2. The M2 is too harsh for the UK roads and you have to be very careful in the wet. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve driven and owned some spikey rwd cars, but the M2 is faster and more powerful than BMW claim. M240i is also better looking
Surprised at the mpg figure - mines is an F22 version which is drove fast and I can get 30mpg no problem - in fact my average over 30,000 miles is 29mpg
I had my M240i for over 4 mths now. It is not a fun car because it goes too fast to easy and it is so comfortable you can’t really feel the speed until you’ve glanced at the speedometer. On my previous car WRX although it is nowhere near in performance but at least I can feel the speed.
The problem is weight. This car weighs within a piss of the M340, which I have. Love the B58 but having driven the M2 recently, the performance jump is significant. Roll on power isn’t close with the M2 pulling away immediately.
I’ll be honest, off the mark obviously the BMW with the x-drive, but when moving the polo feels quicker, think it’s just a case of better power to weight :)
The exterior looks better then the M2 but just today I was actually racing a 2023 m240i in my m140i and I kept up with it overtook it and it couldn't overtake me again.
@@Acanofbeer I don't understand the obsession with quarter mile times it doesn't really show you how the car performs in real life situations and that's a whole different cattle fish my friend.

I disagree with the fuel consumption.. it is better than my previous mk8 golf R.. Of course any ice car if your doing short stop start traffic journey's will have bad fuel eco. Then if you drive it like you stole it will be bad as well. Mixed driving for me and I get great consumption

@@layne4376 I had an n54, n55 s55, b58 and currently have an s58 m2. In fact, I still own an n54. Out of all these, the s55 is the worst by far. I have mine almost 3 months now, in total black and RW drive with carbon fiber body kit extra and I'm in love!! What a beast:)

Do you have the updated version with flat bottom steering wheel?

Same

B58 has great fuel economy. It all about how you drive it. Any car used inly in town with use a ton of fuel. On a long run high 40mpg was easy.
I have this car, just did 100 miles on the M40 at 70mph in eco with cruise control the whole way and 38mpg
Long term mpg on my Golf R mk8 is 37 and 40 on a run so very similar.
great video, hope to see more reviews like this. 👍👍
Thank you mate! :)
I have the 2025 M2 on order and it was cheaper than a 240i because of the deal that was on so in every way, the M2 is the better option
Been lucky there!
I don't get why the passenger hasn't put his foot down in it. He should have saved his money and brought a 220i .
Thanks for the video mate 🙏

Thanks. That's an interesting opinion. I'm coming from a tuned MX5 and interested in small footprint performance cars
I love mine, Brooklyn gray, BMW rocks!
Stick the B58 in a wooden shed on 4 wheels and it would sell in droves.
It's all about the engine.
If I didn't have to have one last convertible in the Z4 then this would be for me. Who knows going forward

Well, the M2 has a 50% manual rate. You can really say that about an M240i. The answer is obvious.
