    Great to hear advice from those who have done it! Getting started and learning to adjust is the hardest part. And every new RV you buy is another learning experience. But, it does get easier or more normal over time. Wish I would have prepared way longer before I got started. I could have saved so much time and money! Thanks for sharing. ❤

    Great job and great series!! So far we're in our 3rd year of "research". We have a travel trailer that we fell in love with at first sight. We have been taking 4-7 day trips since we bought it, as we can. This was my way of us "getting our feet wet" in the rv life. Once retired in March 2020 of 24 years as DOD firefighter, we plan to hit the road as fulltimer's. Thanks to all that contributed to your video and to the series.

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great idea! We firmly believe you do what you can where you are and go from there! The best part is you will know what you are doing when you hit the road full time....unlike us! lol

    We are going to retire in a couple of years and are DEEP in the planing and preparing stages. We have about 30% of our goals done and in place ready to go. This series is what we need right now to make sure we are on the right road.

    Great video. I especially love the "Put your butt in the seat" comment. We had one brand that we fell in love with the looks, floorplans, and gadgets, but then I started doing research on components and reading revues. I realized that brand's choice for slide type wasn't the best and there had several issues over warranty work so we decided it was not for us. I will even have a new RV inspected.

    The best travel trailers available will probably not be seen at any RV show,not sure why this is. What am I referring to you ask? Molded Fiberglass, brands like Casita, Scamp, Park Liner and Trillium , get a little more in size options and quality, you can't go wrong with an Escape or Oliver. Yes these trailers tend to cost a little more up front but you WAY get that back in use. Much lighter and easier to tow then stick built trailers plus hold their value like no other trailers do. I just sold a Casita to get an Escape and after owning the Casita for almost 5 years I sold it for only $400.00 LESS that what i paid for it, try doing that with a stick trailer

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe they do well enough without needing the shows? Not sure. Thanks for sharing the info and the brand names. It will give others who are not aware of the companies a bit more to research before making their purchase! Thanks for watching.

    All good points from different views on RVing! I can't tell you the amount of research we did prior to going full time. I know it was well over 2 years, but when we decided to venture out, we had our ducks in a row. Also, if you don't know how to fix even the small items in your RV, you need to have deep pockets. It ain't cheap out there for service work!

Due to the housing crisis, I was forced under circumstances to live in an RV with not only one, but TWO dogs. lol, it's working out and hope to post videos about my fails and wins particularly to help out the community with winter living in an RV. :). Thanks for your video, your are a great team. We are on this stressing laps, October 15th 2019 we will hit the road, we are presently downsizing, house will be to sold in a month, The more time goes by the more it becomes scary, the fundamental questions need answers... I think you have to be ready in your head, you have to be fine, you have to be well with your life partner because passing from 2000 sq ft to 300 sq ft will be a big change and the change is insecure! We bought our first rig last spring, it's a use one, we started to personalize it so I think it will be more easy to live in it. Sedentary to nomadic, worker to retired, house to motorized, Yes you have to be prepared, the unknown as to be like a constructive challenge!

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      October will be here before you know it! And yes it is scary. You are going against every thing you were taught to do! Once you get in your RV and drive away from the curb for the first time you will know it was totally worth all the stress! I hope you love it as we do!

    Love this series idea. Best take away for me was the advice from I'm Not Lost I'm RVing - "It's okay to fail."
    Were you guys just hinting at a side hobby for each of you? Phil will be a saxophone player with a jazz or blues band and you are going to be an orchestra conductor? If Phil is going to play the sax I would suggest that unless he is already good with playing it ya'll should get get more practice with your boondocking skills so that when he is practicing he won't upset the neighbors with the noise - lol. The good news is both of these new hobbies are travel friendly can be done while on the road, You can book yourselves as guest musicians/conductors at RV rallies 😉 You can call yourselves the 'Phil Harmonic Farleys' 🤣 (or 'Phil Harmonic Follies' - hahahahaha)

    If your talking tow able RV's do not have to little truck as a tow vehicle. Payload capacity will be the limiting factor in max tow capability.

    If someone were to ask me. Rent! Rent a Class A , B,C maybe a Super C 5th Wheel , and Travel Trailer. I'm not saying rent them all just what you think you might really be interested in. That way you get a feel of what it's like. That way you're not stuck with something you hate. So rent , for a few days or weeks . More the longer would be better. The same for something you have to pull. You might have to get a bigger truck to pull your rig. Its really not the pulling its the stopping your rig. Enjoy.

    So, we are getting a budget together and we have about three years left. 10 yrs after my wife retired from the USAF. Question is, what are the best sources for info about budget costs. Maintenance, tyres, etc. I know I can google, but you guys are the best resource

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a great question. I will add it to the next series. Budget info for RVing is a hard question because just like living in a house the budget gap is wide. It really depends on how you RV. Do you prefer boondocking on BLM land or do you prefer a resort for $100 a night? And of course maintenance ranges are just as wide based on the rig: 5th wheel, diesel pusher, gas, bumper tow.
      We do have a video about what we paid for our 30,000 mile maintenance on our rig if you are interested. It may give you an idea of what it will cost for diesels.
      PS: thank you both for your service and sacrifice

    Wow, even though I've been RVing for many years I thought that this video was terrific. I liked the idea of getting different folks to give their take on the subject. Maybe you can do short interviews with owners asking them to talk about the good points and not-so good points of their rigs, then prospective RVers will get ideas of the good and bad.

    What is your recommendation or thoughts on roadside assistance programs? We had Good Sam and had two terrible events that happened to us and Good Sam failed us each time. We have been Good Sam members for off/on over 20 years of camping and was very dissapointed when we finally had to use them. I am leaning toward FMCA membership right now. Could you do a vlog on camping memberships and road side assistance programs. Maybe give a number of recommended ones and ones to avoid. (If you want more info on our particular problem, just message me or email. Also, love your videos. You two remind me of my wife and self.)

I will had this question to our next series so we can get a lot of different perspectives. Hopefully, it will help others.

    How far in advance do you make your reservations to the location you are headed to?

    • @RVersity
      @RVersity 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a good idea to make them as far in advance as you can. But, I never plan to far ahead and things seem to work out. Sometimes I plan a week out sometimes I book while driving to a location. It just depends on the place and the season. I also have to consider the length of my RV and if I want space to put my patio down. The best advice is to plan way ahead. Reservations only cost about $25 to get and most can be cancelled the day before arrival for a refund. Of course every RV park is different. Hope this helps Karen! - Brandi

      Go to the NRVIA website and look for the inspectors tab and do a search on your area to see who pops up. If no one is near you, contact Stephanie Henson via Facebook and she can point you in the right direction.

    My question is, what do you all plan to do later in life? We want to full time RV when my husband retires in 4 years, but he is nervous about not having a sticks and bricks home for when we are " too old to RV." The idea of selling off all our stuff and really downsizing scares the bejesus out of him, lmao. Me on the other hand, I can let it all go and welcome the freedom! Was it scary to make the decision and actually do it? Please let me know your thoughts. :)

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We figured we could replace all the stuff later. We put the money from the sale of our house in the bank, not a penny went towards the RV. When we are ready to stop full timing and buy our next house, we will be ready. It was scary at first, but once we realized it was just stuff that can be replaced.....out it went. Start small or in one room first.....that helps. Good luck.
