I saw it IRL in 2018 in Spa and it looked sooo good, at first i thought it was a concept for a next generation (as it was standing beside a then-current-gen nismo) but alas..
Super fascinating learning about how ItalDesign really do everything, and the fact that they influence the industry with their ideas is truly amazing. Beautiful minds in that building.
Larry Chen engaging in such a way that we can feel the passion coming from all the parties. Everybody is so committed (even if it comes down to some pasta). Larry is genuinely in awe of the Ital Design way of seeing things and doing things, and his questions won't stop. The answers are genuine, too. At the end of the day they all showed us what it's like when you truly love what you do. I was a mechanic and owned an auto detail operation. I still play in this space (cars) because I love it - and I see Larry going everywhere talking to people that I would meet if I had his gig. This was an especially entertaining episode...
Italdesign like Giugiaro and Pininfarina make some of the nicest designed cars in history. Probably my all time favorite Italdesign car was the Nazca C2 from 1991. Many may have never heard of it but as a kid I collected these notebook cards of supercars and that was one of them and it was just so striking looking. If I remember right it was built on the BMW 850ci V12 platform and still incorporated the BMW kidney grill design.
my god the passion in the way he talks about their cars, it's like he's a love struck teenager talking about his first love. His face also always lights up whenever the host notices design details and the way it's different to the base car, he looks so happy when he explains the thought process behind the changes. Funny bit about the pasta and the engineering behind it, Italians and their love for cars and pasta.
One of the best and most informative videos yet Larry. Great work and awesome getting an insight into a design studio and bespoke manufacturer like this.
I had that prototype car off them in April 2022 on those same mountain roads in Turin. I then had a tour of the production and a visit to the museum. Very cool.
Larry!! This is an amazing video. Great subject matter (content). One of my favorites. ❤ You've always been global but this was GLOBAL!!! Super well done.
Basically what an Infiniti version of the GT-R would look like! Love it. the rear is a bit odd but it looks pretty good in satin black instead of the gold.
What Nissan SHOULD have done on the latest "refresh" of the GTR! This GTR looks incredible. Now paint it in a really bright, cool looking color and you will have achieved PERFECTION!
this is most beautiful car ive seen in my life.. and its a GTR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CUDOS ITaldesign .. BRAVO >>BRAVISSIMO MULTO GUSTO BAB BENE COSI !!!! ❤🔥
Seeing the R50 italdesign, Nissan GT-R Vision, and the Nissan Hyper Force Nissan have a lot of ideas to make the next gen GT-R. The 710hp V6 is perfect to come for the next generation or maybe a 7 speed that is capable of challenging the modern supercars.
I am not a Nissan guy but when I was in Tokyo in 2018 and passed by Nissan's showroom in Aoyama and they were displaying it, I entered of course to admire this car. It is stunning. Nissan has made some amazing concept cars during the '00s-''10s that should have gone to series or low-volume production.
Before ItalDesign created their Nissan GTR. There was a Italian company named Zagato that created their Nissan Leopard Stelvio. Japanese engineering and Italian design is like something out of a dreamworld of cars and possibly.
When I saw the R35 Italdesign on pictures I thought it's not that special. Seeing it in video from all the angles, my god is that a stunning looking car!!
Impressive review. It is definitely an eye opener for me to understand the design language of each masterpiece from this top notch designer! Thanks Larry for your great review. What also surprised me towards the end of the video is to see stock version of FD3S (RX-7) JDM owned by Andrew. I have one of the > 90% stock form of Spirit R RX-7 in my collection too !
Larry thank you for bring this video, you and this person works profesional and they hear the costumer what hey wanted awesome video Larry keep it up the good work buddy 🤙🏼.
Pininfarina has probably had just as much if not more influence on designs. They've done cars, buildings, phones, soda machines etc. They even used to build production cars in their own factory and made spare parts too.
This is the redesign that GTR deserves, pre sell it and put it into mass production at a somewhat reasonable cost. NISSAN CEO needs to grow a pair like Akio with the GR Yaris/Corolla🎉
After watching the video, it's not immediately clear if Larry understands that the 1st gen Golf was designed by Giugiaro and not just THOSE specific Golfs lol. I could be misinterpreting it, but it made me chuckle nonetheless. Absolutely outstanding video.
Phenomenal interview and showcase. I've long considered pasta shape based on sauce retention. That noodle design looks to die for! Insane. I'd give up pasta for life to own any of those cars, though
When I first saw this car back when it was unveiled I was so excited that Nissan would truly release this. The timing was so unfortunate, we could have seen Nissan make huge strides into the super/hypercar market in today's world. The same bridge Porsche crossed with the 992 GT3RS, Nissan could have been right alongside. We all lost out due to circumstance unfortunately
This is my favorite car ever since I saw it. I would have one in my living room and a second one to drive around. Have it put down 1400hp and have someone due the undertray to make downforce that is needed at 250-270+. Then I’d have a third just as a backup sitting in my garage
It’s modern coach work, that doesn’t exist anymore, it’s incredibly labor intensive so it’s going to be expensive, but for some people it’s worth it for the unique design and the way its creation harkens back to the early stages of automotive design where cars were built by hand.
A lot of people don’t like it, I really don’t understand why but they don’t… The other reason is that it’s hand built, like coach built cars from the 1930s, that is ridiculously labor intensive, and it means it’s difficult to make that design work for a production vehicle unless you change how it’s built which ofc diminishes the impact/importance of it.
It actually reminds me of car design for a movie that takes place in the semi-near future. Almost Cyber-Punk like. The back of it is far too Italian though with those circle-hole tail-lights too much like Ferrari. I like the one we got, but this is a cool one-off.
Lary, you have the best job driving cars like this georgeus Italdesign GT-R50, I just love it :) Keep up with great work and get to slovenia to visit Akrapovič :)
I worked for Nissan back when they made these and we took one down to manchetser citys football ground as we sponsored them and it was the black and gold model and got to spend alot of time in the car
The way his face lights up with a smile when asked if he drove it.. that's the true goal and essence of a good car.
Thanks😂
The GTR we wanted as the gtr update
Fuck no that this is hideous
and not that disgusting GTR-EV
That’s as always HWNI-only @@DarkVoidRanker

iirc there was a fair amount of hate for this design. i think it was just ahead of its time because it looks great
I am 100% guilty of sleeping on how GOOD this car looks. Seeing all this high quality footage of it has really changed my mind.
My goodness that golden beige color on the GTR is so elite, it must look even more crazy in person
Fr
I saw it IRL in 2018 in Spa and it looked sooo good, at first i thought it was a concept for a next generation (as it was standing beside a then-current-gen nismo) but alas..
Damn, that golden beige GTR looks too good. Love the alloys. The best car design in recent times after the Hyundai N Vision 74
Honestly, it’s freaking gorgeous, something Nissan would never do , I honestly wana cry….. that we have these and we can’t get them….. 🤦♂️
they do like 94 facelifts of the gtr but never do one like this that actually looks like a facelift lol
Sorta the same approach when Dodge milked the Hellcat/392 Charger models to death
I for one love how the facelift 2025 GTR looks like
lol, truth!!!
@@KingChadKennedy Nissan is treating us like the high school crush that strings us along and gives us blue balls
They can't afford to facelift the gtr. That's why they haven't. The company is damn near bankrupt

You just brought back memories that I forgot. I had that Nazca on my pinup board. Thank you.
i remember this car from need for speed
italians have more designers than all of those what you write over there…
They designed Nikon cameras as well.

lol that phrase always makes me laugh. There’s a lot of stupid questions. He just didn’t ask any
Larry and Dino are porbly the very few lucky people to ever interact and drive the GTR 50....
Italdesign's concepts are always radical.
Larry Chen, asking a very Italian man, why there was pasta there. My life is truly complete!
All these cars don't even look real at first. I was like is Larry looking at renders via VR lol. Awesome video as always.
