Should try this for Meatloaf Mondays. I don't really enjoy pickles in burgers, but I love pickles in German cooking if they are chopped up.

surely a traditional recipe would have had liver or or other offal in it as well
There is no liver in traditional German meat loafs, I think you probably mistake this with "Leberkäse or Fleischkäse" which is more a sausage loaf and has only a tiny amount of liver in the old recipes of certain regions.
