Some people need to learn to like veggies themselves, before attempting to teach kids. Why vegetables have to be HIDDEN from kids??? Instead, smart parents capable to teach their kids, as early as possible, to really like and enjoy vegetables as much as sweets or junk food, by setting an example, making it a frequent family meals, leaning to cook/serve it tasty and attractive. Everyone has their comfort food ever since their childhood. Just for some people, it's some kind of a veggie soup or dish, and for some...greasy cake. Kids learn from their parents and family habits, even when we think they're too young to understand, or they don't hear our conversations about food. And if they see very early on, that parents prefer pizza, pasta, steak, hamburger with fries, cakes, candy, chips a lot more than beets, carrots, lettuce, celery, broccoli, bell peppers, cauliflower, green apples...before you know it, they also will love junk food, and have strong opinion, that veggies are yucky. PARENTS have to set an example very early on, liking veggie dishes yourself and making them tasty and often. When your very young kid is asking for "something tasty/juicy/sweet/crunchy", give them a choice of sweet cooked beets, cherry tomatoes, berries, crunchy sweet carrots, celery sticks with some tasty dip, nuts, sweet red bell peppers. They WILL develop taste for it. I speak from many years of experience in this area. But, you can't cheat. You can't bring veggies and fruit to your kid, and try to have pizza or burger behind their back. This will never work. Every time I hear that in some family kids don't want to eat veggies, I know for sure, there are one of two reasons for that: 1. One of the adults doesn't like veggies themselves (even if they try to hide it). 2. Whoever cooks vegitable dishes in the family, doesn't do a very good job, and possibly, has to learn some new ideas. California

It's a good recipe and you should try it, we added breadcrumbs soaked in milk to ours as this is what my grandmother taught us to do. Using a food processor grating blade makes prep very quick and easy, we like to add more onions and some dried 8/16 garlic granules. When cold makes an excellent sandwich/roll filling when sliced, with a health amount of mustard and or chilli sauce. Thanks for the recipe take care, God bless one and all.
As a German I can tell you, this recipe definitely is either not German or not old. Because neither garlic nor olive oil were regularly used in German cooking before the last three decades. Maybe four decades. I have no doubt it is tasty, but I doubt the veracity of this being a lost, old German recipe.

this absolutely reminds me of a meatloaf my grandmother made decades ago using the exact same ingredients but instead of patties it was this huge meatloaf with a custom red gravy

The dish looks simplistic very tasty. Definitely worth making it at least once. Once I ever bought an oven. I am of Serbian descent. I was raised Serbian at home. And my mother regularly made SARMA. But the funny thing is. That I recently found out that she din't make it quite the traditional way. She made the filling for the SARMA more or less in the same way as The minced meat in this dish. With a few extra spices And ingredients added. Although in hindsight my mom's sarma wasn't really traditional. For my taste it was unmatchable. She never taught me the way she made it.. And I haven't eaten it that way. since she emigrated to Serbia as soon as she could retire.. So the only time I can eat SARMA like my mother makes it. Is when I'm on vacation in Serbia.

Не знала что это немецкое ,как правило это эконом класс любой хозяйки
Вот только маринованный лучок я раскидываю на котлеты за пол часа до готовности и он отдает сок маринада и подрумянившись источает чарующий аромат шашлычка,так же и на люля кебаб и на окорочка мелкими кусочками в духовке заложить сверху маринованный лучок блюдо преоброжается😊
