I agree with your ending rankings except for Finalizer and EIF. I know you couldnt smash all the features and what not in this video, but you did a decent job. Last year I tried out Restoration III, Legends, and Empire in Flames. I tried Finalizer briefly but it wasn't as long because I had to zip off to do something else. Population is a key issue for most of them except for Legends when I did these runs. Seems to still be the case. I preferred the CU era of the game when it was run by SOE but population on Restoration III was a problem. I was sold on the entire premise and different way of things with Empire in Flames. I appreciated the vision and what was actually done for EiF, but population was very low. I hated NGE but Legends had easily, by far the largest population. Population is vital because it affects how vibrant and alive a game feels seeing other players, grouping up, and of course, how the economy works. Low population disrupts all this, even if the intent and gameplay of the server is good.
Thanks so much 1337. I wish I could do more but my website is so busy and requires that I make more adventure game content. I really enjoy making SWG videos though and miss the community
I been really enjoying swg evolve server and been having a blast with the pvp ( ground and space) even with the server being small. I hope to see the server grow over time
Personally I love SWGL, their website is beautiful too, and the fact that they're actually even doing new expacs and adding more features like gardening etc. just makes it freaking amazing. Did you hear about CoH and its revival from emu server to an official licensed server, greenlit by NCSoft? Imagine SWG and Vanguard SoH getting that same treatment! Liked and subbed!
I played a LOT of SWGEmu in 2014, and did a lot of what the game had to offer for me. I decided to wait until JTL came and the wait is almost over after 10 years
I really love JTL, so my options are limited. I played on Legends and enjoyed it, but yeah, its NGE. I played on Resto from day one and I agree, it does have the best concept. I haven't had to deal with any of the drama that people mention. I dont really dive into the forums or the discord much either. My biggest gripe is that they broke TrackIr implementation somewhere down the line and won't fix it. Sucks because it was a core game feature and it massively improves the space experience. I get it, its a niche item, but still.
Never played SWG and just recently started playing on Legends. Found a guild my first day and already got to making some friends to help me learn the whole thing. Seems like it definitely still carries the highest population, lots of content new and old so it really just takes the cake. I want to try a server with an older version but for some reason Legends does seem like it has the most longevity to it given everything it has going for it.
So, I've pretty much never played Star Wars: Galaxies. I tried once a long time ago but I didn't get very far. I don't even remember which server it was. This time I am much more serious because I've heard that quite a few people are playing now, with the emulator. This is an excellent guide, you summarize each server very well, so thanks! I guess I'll go with Legends, because it has the highest population. Population is very important in any MMO, but it seems crucial in Galaxies. My main complaint is that you can start as a Jedi, which is lame, because they were super strong and rare in the original Galaxies, based off what I've heard.
How so? The NGE has a hundred times more content than Pre-Cu, not to mention that Legends also has content that didn't even exist when the game was live, such as farming and ranching.@@user-tc4xy6jl7o
Have you had a chance to check out SWG Evolv ? Trying to figure out if it has JTL, (Looks like it does?) rumour is few are flocking to that server and are liking it in 2024?
You should review SWG:Beyond It's an NGE Server with a low populatior has been server for 4years, and TONSSSSS of new content. new custom Legendary/hardmode instances. arenas, crafting token system and jewlery, same for entertainer, tons of weekly events for server schedule. oh and also there is multiple world bosses with custom loot and such aswell!
Currently playing on SWG: Attack of the Clones server and honestly it's really great. Has seasons, events, and a helpful player base. If you're going through the servers, I highly suggest giving it a shot!
The only bad thing, and something that limits the player base from exploding, is you still need the original discs for whatever reason. These servers would explode if they had digital downloading.
Just logged into your discord, and posted a question on where to find it. I would like for a group of my buddies and I to start playing @@AdventureGameHotspot
All I play is the SWGEMU Finalizer and have done for years (including Basilisk before it) but I really need to try some of the other servers, especially Legends which looks interesting with the extra content like Bespin but I was never a fan of the NGE era. Would love to see JTL in the game again, that was so much fun back in the day when it first launched.
Thank you for the video. SWG is a tough game to love, because it was actually three different games. The first two were amazing, but flawed. That’s what made them special. Of course NGE is the most popular. Restoration has me hooked, though EMU is calling me…all these emulators are made with love.
Seasons / leagues is a nice idea with boosted exp rates it would not feel so grindy, Although I would really love a new mmorpg like swg that every one could call home ^^
Legends, baby! We received new Space PvP content this year, and yet another GCW update, is in-the-works. It's very rewarding to play, and doesn't have an "end-game loop", like a lot of poorer MMOs, out there. The more you dig, the deeper it goes. Working on decorating a cantina for the monthly Galactic Home Show content and getting into the new "beast taming" aspect of Beast Master, before setting up to take part in the new Ranching/Farming system (and also the baby creatures are the best-sized for decorating).
I remember playing SWGEMU in early 2014 and boy did we have a blast with all the tweaky stuff, I remember someone went out and drew out like 20 krayt dragons to Mos Eisley. Bunch of us that decided to meet this guy head on waited near the cantina and man it was nuts! We barely survived, was fun seeing all the dead dance/med bots 😂😂 good times
AoTC launched Dec. 22 and is seasonal-- just needs more pop! This first season seems like a bit of a test server pre-season type of situation though. Hoping they can iron out all the issues (which they've done a fair bit of so far) and can get some hype come season 1
Totaly agree about resto and it's such ashame and I feel so sorry for Halo . But if you want to play there you'll have to become an Aconite fan boy if you want to get anywhere with Jedi , so many players have told me . Stardust is a good server with a lot of cool things . Swg Evolve is another good server NGE but with expertise tree's and all prof's including Jedi .
Real question is which one is most painless to install? how the Dust install, just came back to SWG myself and 'Resto is still Besto' for me anyways :) Legends for the Events !
I hope some server could join all pkanets we have and all fan made planets, with all fan made species and 11 ABY where you could train to be a jedi with Luke Skywalker in Yavin 4 or train to be a Sith in Moraband with Darth Krayt. More options in architecture, quality of life and etc...
Legends is where its at in my opinion. As of today, its been alive longer than SWG when it was live! Legends clearly is doing it right because its been around for OVER 8 years! I played SWG live from beta til the last day. My favorite game ever! :)
Legends is absolutely not just afk vendor players. 😅 It could've been that you were on in the late hours when it's a bit slower, but normally, it's popping off. I never run out of things to do or people to do stuff with.
I'd like to preface by saying I appreciate any/all people still working on SWG in 2024 no matter the iteration. It's amazing how long this beloved game has survived. That being said, I'll never understand how the NGE iteration of the game ended up being the highest population and quality emu server. It changes the original concept of the game so much it doesn't feel like SWG to me. Honestly my favorite era was the CU because it cut out spamming in combat, the graphics got a nice boost (excluding bloom), and there was the 2 new planets at that point. Restoration was my ideal server I was waiting for since the original swgemu was announced some 15-20 years ago lol, so it's sad what's happened but I still have a toon on there, same as Legends just cuz. Just so tired of migrating servers due to nonsense. I wish there were just 3 main servers out there, one PRE-CU, one CU, one NGE. Anyways, thanks for still covering SWG. I subbed. So cool the game lives on, and I'm curious to see how AI can be used to update the game not only visually, but maybe it can be used to fix a lot of the game engine's weird issues it's always had.

I honestly was not aware of all the shadiness that accompanies Restoration 3 before I made an account. But it's the only way I can play SWG sadly, since I don't own a copy and ordering one can be outright expensive. Restoration having a digital download definitely is a huge advantage to have. Not to mention even if I haven't played Legends, I honestly like the classless system better. To me, it's what makes SWG unique since plenty of MMORPGs do a class system.
It's unfortunate that you can't be on Legends. The older class systems are definitely better for sure, but all these other servers are just so poorly run 😢 makes it hard to ever be there or recommend anyone them for anyone. I'm seeing copies on eBay for around 25 USD. I don't know your location or financial situation, but 25 is by no means expensive. So I wouldn't rule it out just yet.
I took a break from the SWG scene and watched this video to see how things are going now and I do not see much change. 1. Legends has an amazing dev team most of which are professional developers and they do not halfway any content before putting it out. If you play on Legends anything you touch or try will work as intended and they have added a great deal to the game over the years. 2. EMU has good devs but they have been "working" on JTL for years and I have not seen any serious progress which rules them out for me. 3. EIF has some great stuff the but last time I played I ran into issues with some of their work not working quite right which has prevented me from trying them again. Resto and Dust I have not played so I cannot give my two cents on them.
actually we want JTL while having the pre CU. I mean most of us that were there from the beginning left when NGE came out because the CU annoyed us. But we literally told them when they polled us that if they went that path we would leave. And thats what wind up killing Live
Wow.....I'm an old fart and enjoyed SWG tremendously...unfortunately, no way to recover my old toons (that I know of) so, a pain to begin at zero again. I didn't realize there were so many servers. I'm currently on Finalizer but I see very low population and old players (like me) returning struggle with low pop and getting back into game.
Been playing R3 recently and the population seems to have picked up. I will definitely jump over to finalizer if they ever finish JTL. Seriously dont see that happening though.
I’ve seen more updates on JtL in the past few months than I have in the past few years combined. If I were a betting man, I’d readily put some down on 8-12 months. Seems like every dev team dropped whatever they were doing to pitch in.
Restoration is clearly the best server as it is something fresh from what all the others do while id does not stick to a 100% accurate CU implementation, but instead the devs are not scared to do some balancing and reshuffling of abilities to get better gameplay in pvp.
What do you think of the Sentinals Republic? I just did a search and found (at least) 28 different servers..........it's NO WONDER, the populations can be low.
Can anyone run SWGemu? The reason I ask is I'm from the SOE days, I think I started a year after release, still have my original CDs/DVDs and I've always wanted to play pre-CU and post-CU Jedi. I believe I joined post-CU and even then Master Jedi were really powerful back then. So always had a dream when I saw SWGemu appear, to run my own server just for myself to be able to put in a bluefrog and give myself Master Jedi :)
I love swg legends i jus wish i could switch my xp gain to 1x i know people like 2.5x xp gain cause it gets you to end game stuff faster. But i outpaced the quest and was easily killing mobs with no difficulty
>"I want this server to succeed so badly I love what it brings to the table!" >Talks ill of Resto in every SWG video Hopefully people saw my response to your former video and understand Resto a little better. Still waiting to feel that "punch"
The best , most innovative, before its time, combat, crafting, housing, pet creation, the holocron Jedi system, the village jedi system, the space exploration and the space in swg was a whole game on its own, If they brought back swg, it would make Lucas film so much more money if they use the playing card aka loot card for monetizing it. The private servers already have more players then swtor, reason I go after swtor is cause ea BioWare freaked about having 2 online Star Wars rpgs at the same time, even though they are two totally different types of rpg experience. Swtor is a linear non sandbox and non player sustained in game economy without having to use any real life money to start making money and getting other cool things u want. Swg has all the mmorpg 15$ a month which most people paid more a month when renting games, we paid 15 to play one game, it is the opposite of swtor, the bloodfin style server is the best imo, pre cu combat , with nge era loot and housing, publish 12 everything crafting, to harvesting , with stuff like areas missions , alert raids added to the game but playing like pub 12
Didnt even add SWG Beyond which is sad as it has a lot cool PVE Content and a chill community. less pop then legends but over all it has a stable server and lot custom instances like legendaries and hardmodes.
If I have to find a copy of the cd just to play I’m not doing it. It seems interesting but I have to jump through hoops to figure out how to play the game.
the biggest advantage of R3 is that it is the most accessible. its the only one that i could find where i could just download it and play. all the others required me having a disk of the original game and jumping through crazy hoops manually updating and patching the client, and my pc doesn't even have a disk drive with R3 its just make an account, download the launcher, then go.
Definitely avoid restoration, I rather play legends but currently stardust. I am an avid player on star dust and it is incredibly fun. if star dust goes down, im going back to legends. I will never go back to R3. Star dust is not NGE, CU or pre cu it is really completly different and yes the combat system is awesome. Population isnt there yet but we are gaining numbers.
I just want a server with CU or Pre-CU with all the content from all the expansions (New planets, and space, etc) Adding new planets and playable species on their own how some of the mentioned servers have done. Is that so much to ask for? Lol Why wont they all just join forces?
Unfortunately, I can't play Legends cuz of my shit ISP. So, I only have a few options such as Infinity. Have you heard of Infinity? Have you played it? What's your opinion on it?
To me, Infinity has been fantastic. I've been hooked on it for a good month now. It's perfect if you have a job and life lol. You can make progress much faster than the old days. There's beena boost in xp, pikeman got a buff, and you can also get 6 missions at once rather than 2. There's been a few tweaks and it's been great.
Neither of them are very populated so I recommend choosing your preferred playing style. If you want a larger pop and game deal with NGE then it’s Legends
@Bobo56Bear and as someone that played resto go legends, I hate the nge but if you're going to play that engine may as well play the best version of that engine online.
@@ryanhatzenbeller4327 There is a new server even better :) SWG Evolve ! cu+nge+jtl no Bespin or Nar shadar, but unreal SWG server, fast leveling, long end game, 36 Prof full mixed templates etc, unreal !
Game needs a solid population to really be worth playing, so Legends is the place to be honestly. It's also the one that's the most professionally run, which is a factor that too many people are overlooking I think. 😮
I have never played it. I’ve been meaning to but I just never end up there. I refuse to talk about a server that I’ve not played. Rommi made a video about it on my channel when he worked with me but not myself.
Biggest problem people have with SWG servers is most of them have a ton of hoops to jump through just to play the game. Why would people want to deal with 'you have to wait for an admin' to let them play, or 'you must have a copy of the game' which you either have to get from ebay or from some questionable means? Once the various servers stop this, they might get a ton more players. After watching this video I thought, hey ill try out stardust, nope gotta get admin approval...ok how about legends, nope gotta have a copy of the game....sigh, nevermind ill go find something else to play :(
I’m playing in the Aotc server is skill trees no levels which I like with so far I’ve seen a few people around nothing crazy but I’ve been on for a few hours only
Legends is really the only place to be. Other servers have great ideas for sure, but they also either don't have even close to enough people playing, or are poorly run, or a combination of both. 😢 Quality over quantity is a term I see thrown around a bit. However, in the case of this game specifically, you do actually need a decent population of people playing. Thankfully, Legends has both quality AND quantity.
I enjoy Restoration a lot I do want the server to succeed because I think it’s awesome just wish more people played. I did play legends it’s just that you can AFK grind a toon to 90 which kinda takes the fun out of it for me. Also I heard somewhere that Jedi wasn’t all that viable in PvP but don’t quote me on that it’s been a hot minute since I played
Seasons i.e. Regular wipes, Star Citizen is that by de facto, because they suck, and yeah they have a ton of players, but their engine is cutting edge. main reason i support SC is in hopes it can be modded to be SWG 2
Ultimately, I wanted to like Legends, but Legends is post CU. This means, for me at least, it takes away everything that makes SWG special. It's basically a generic MMORPG with 9 uncustomizable classes at that point. I might as well play WoW, FFXIV, or hell, SWTOR. Not to say Pre CU isn't without it's issues. To put it lightly, it was developed by a team that was a genius at creating a sandbox environment and level system, but horrible at making actual balanced content and gear. It was magical when the combat system didn't have a meta. But once it did, you could make a character that can solo farm mobs that were intended to be brought down from a raid, and get the best weapons that way. And then everyone had a character like that, and it just makes it so 90% of the professions are useless, and ruins the point of the game.
3:55 "For some reason.." (the population on EiF sucks) The reason... a toxic, narcissistic, unprofessional leadership team that gets off on abusing the players. Think the old phrase "cutting off the nose to spite one's own face". I've watched them alienate or outright boot countless passionate, loyal, long time players for bullshit reasons. They ban more people than new people who want to stick around are coming in. The rest get driven away due to the lack of respect and playerbase. Also I would like to point out, that while they do have some cool and unique stuff, the core expansions are not there. And there is little to no solo content.... they get off on making world bosses and dungeons that require a whole team of people.... all the while making sure that no people are around to play... Server could have been great WITHOUT certain people being placed in the positions they are in. And I don't mind naming names if anyone is curious to know. Some people lack the character to ever have any sort of authority over other people in any environment. Thats the majority of the team on EiF.
@@AdventureGameHotspot Indeed, as you were describing the community problems on other servers I was saying to myself "sounds just just like eif too". It's a people problem, and the price paid for dealing with the mini-kingdoms of all these custom servers headed up by individuals with some tech savvy but completely lacking in how to fairly organize and treat a community. I've wasted years watching eif wither and no amount of cool gimmicks on a server can ever replace just basic decency, fairness, and respect toward the players. If you ask me, the guys with the technical skills should stop trying to start their own servers and instead lend their talents to whichever server proves to have the best community driven management team. At the end of the day an MMO lives or dies by the amount of players it can attract and retain. Treat the players well and offer them a fun time, and the population will thrive.
Did u mean play for 4 months then start over? The best crafters on live took longer then that to become great as well as doctors or jedi unlock pre cu. It finalizer had space id be there today, lol. Nge might have got better towards the end but its still cookie cutter WOW look alike. No creature handler or bio engineering. The system they put in was not as good as pre cu. How many people are bots though? The cu killed my money making. I was TK/ doc on starsider top 5 buffer/ healer on the server. I crafted my own buffs using the special ingredients, best harvested materials, and tapes for clothes. Cu made it clicky like a spell no more crafting best buffs. We didn't need combat lvls either
Should give SWG: Evolve a try. It has JTL and its a different take on a CU/NGE Hybrid than Resto. CU imspired skills but with NGE Combat and NGE Expertise.
I was play SWG:evolve last month, the professional and skill xp part is very interesting, people should try play and understand it. this month, I focus on swg beyond, 7 chars can be on line at same time, that make me spend less time on survey and sample, very good server for newbie like me, to understand and try the trader, craft part. re3, is not good for me, I like afk use macro to sample, already quit it

Yes. Load the original SWG game files on your PC and name it SWG Default or Original (or whatever you want). Then create separate folders for SWG Legends, SWG Finalizer, and any other server/version you want to play. Then copy/paste the original SWG files into those folders. Then unpack the files for the appropriate sever into the folders. Most servers have install executables that allow you to change/direct the install to a different folder, making things easy. If you run across any that don't, you will have to go into the Launcher options for that server/version and change it to the appropriate folder to be able to launch the game and receive updates in the correct folder. Keep the SWG Default, so you can quickly use them for any future servers/versions you want to play. I used to actively play on 4 different servers and tried several others doing this without conflicts. Good Luck.

Thank you for continuing to give this game attention
Thanks so much 1337. I wish I could do more but my website is so busy and requires that I make more adventure game content. I really enjoy making SWG videos though and miss the community
I been really enjoying swg evolve server and been having a blast with the pvp ( ground and space) even with the server being small. I hope to see the server grow over time
I appreciate your coverage of SWG content.
Thanks so much Ben. What server do you prefer?
So, I've been interested in SWG for a hot minute, and got the install disks recently, I'm still shopping around for servers and this helped a ton.
I’m happy to hear that
Personally I love SWGL, their website is beautiful too, and the fact that they're actually even doing new expacs and adding more features like gardening etc. just makes it freaking amazing. Did you hear about CoH and its revival from emu server to an official licensed server, greenlit by NCSoft? Imagine SWG and Vanguard SoH getting that same treatment! Liked and subbed!
Thanks Eq2. I’d love to see the servers merge together

I played a LOT of SWGEmu in 2014, and did a lot of what the game had to offer for me. I decided to wait until JTL came and the wait is almost over after 10 years
Hopefully it’s worth the wait.
@@AdventureGameHotspotany light at the end of that tunnel? lol. do you believe there is a chance they'll add JTL on swgemu this year?
@@draicor I don’t have any inside knowledge. The space in test center is not inspiring
I was a former radiant server player since precu to Nge and I want to play again
It’s not as captivating as the first incarnations but it has the population. The population is so incredibly important in SWG
@@AdventureGameHotspot
That's what I've heard. I'm looking forward to giving it a go 😁
Legends has the highest daily population by far.

NGE sucks tho

Somewhere in there you said low population though. 🤔

All I play is the SWGEMU Finalizer and have done for years (including Basilisk before it) but I really need to try some of the other servers, especially Legends which looks interesting with the extra content like Bespin but I was never a fan of the NGE era. Bespin is surprisingly good. PVP is great. It’s just a healthy server

Thank you for the video. SWG is a tough game to love, because it was actually three different games. The first two were amazing, but flawed. That’s what made them special. Of course NGE is the most popular. Restoration has me hooked, though EMU is calling me…all these emulators are made with love.

@@AdventureGameHotspot Me too man, those were some fun days after we lost live. I might come back in the near future when life gets a little slower.
AoTC launched Dec. 22 and is seasonal-- just needs more pop! This first season seems like a bit of a test server pre-season type of situation though. Hoping they can iron out all the issues (which they've done a fair bit of so far) and can get some hype come season 1
Truth time. I knew it was coming and was trying to come off like I was brilliant 😂😂
I really think SWG evolve should be looked at more, the changes on the server are amazing and is only improving as time goes on
Legends is where its at in my opinion. As of today, its been alive longer than SWG when it was live! Legends clearly is doing it right because its been around for OVER 8 years! I played SWG live from beta til the last day. My favorite game ever! :)
Last time I played - EMU dead. SWG Restoration dead. Legends busy'ish, mostly AFK vendor players. Thanks for the vid!
Legends is absolutely not just afk vendor players. 😅
It could've been that you were on in the late hours when it's a bit slower, but normally, it's popping off. I never run out of things to do or people to do stuff with.
I didn't know about the rest...
I'm on finalizer.
And I love it
I'd like to preface by saying I appreciate any/all people still working on SWG in 2024 no matter the iteration.

So I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

i could never play NGE. the entire reason SWG flopped was because of it. i was there from start to end
Great breakdown
Can’t comment on the others but I’m really enjoying Legends.
actually we want JTL while having the pre CU.

I’m just down on most servers right now
I’ve seen more updates on JtL in the past few months than I have in the past few years combined. If I were a betting man, I’d readily put some down on 8-12 months. Seems like every dev team dropped whatever they were doing to pitch in.
Yeah. The Mobius video really sealed it for me.

The best , most innovative, before its time, combat, crafting, housing, pet creation, the holocron Jedi system, the village jedi system, the space exploration and the space in swg was a whole game on its own,
If they brought back swg, it would make Lucas film so much more money if they use the playing card aka loot card for monetizing it.
Wish they would upgrade the graphics for current and next gen systems.
swg Infinity is popping off

And then everyone had a character like that, and it just makes it so 90% of the professions are useless, and ruins the point of the game.

also, watching my bro on the private servers there was ALOT of personal BS haha
3:55 "For some reason.." (the population on EiF sucks)
The reason... a toxic, narcissistic, unprofessional leadership team that gets off on abusing the players.
That’s a shame. With that said, every video I make has at least 2 comments that say the same thing about every server. It’s a crime 😝

Is there a way to play swg legendd and swgemu finalizer on the same PC? NOt at the same time but one at a time?
You bet. Just have separate folders for separate servers
Good Luck.

@@jodyclemons4235 did you hear about the new Raph Koster MMO, Stars Reach?
@@AdventureGameHotspot nope
Why EIF doesn't have a large player base? Its heave NR dev. NR have better loot tables and greatly out number Imp in GCW. NRs only play during GCW so its like 30 NR vrs 7 Imp. Dead server.!
Yeah NGE destroyed this game but I heard EMU was cancelled so I gave up. I guess I can play again.
